Honestly, we've never seen him in a real fight during the show. When he came back during Book 3, he just fight soldiers and no important bender.

It gets annoying over time - he always spews wisdom at you but you don't know or don't feel like implementing it. He just fails at making you feel like he's showing that he understands you. Just the same endless nonsense every time.

The weird thing is this actually made sense. Zuko had to look within himself (to find out his origins and ties to Avatar Roku) to save himself from his otherself (that is Ozai's son the Zuko that tried to capture the Avatar). Only then his true self (the firelord that ended the war and restored peace to the world) would reveal itself. It's these small details that make ATLA the greatest show of all time.

One of my favorite (and touching) quotes from Iroh about his destiny:

For me, there is pure wholesome wisdom of living your best and most peaceful life in this quote.
Even when he's angry, he still calls him Prince. Try to be like Iroh.
I don't think he was angry - he was just trying to get through Zuko's thick skull. I'd say he was shouting out of desperation, not anger.
@@simonaspalovis1204 I always thought that Iroh called him prince so that Zuko will not give into dispair and it would help Zuko overcome his shame to some level. He's an outcast after all, so he's technically not a prince.

This quote really helped me during a bad time of my life. I felt lost and confused and not too sure what I wanted to do with my life. I always loved this quote, so I actually decided to follow Iroh's advice. I am now currently working at UCLA and in the process of writing a graphic novel. Rest in peace Mako and thank you for giving us a character who is truely wise,funny and timeless.

It is one of pain and desperation. He doesn’t care whether it’s in the capital of the Fire Nation or in the lowest slums, he does not want to lose another child. Regardless of his parentage Iroh really sees Zuko as a son.

Iroh’s speech on the four elements is simply full of wisdom and downright enjoyable to listen to. A single scene gave us insight into this world and taught us many things. We could all use someone like Iroh in our lives.

I was hoping they would put this one. This was one of my favorite scene/dialogue between Iroh and Zuko.
The other two was when Iroh cried in the jail after Zuko left (thinking that Zuko really had lost his way), and the other when Iroh taught Zuko about the four nations' wisdom.

I watched this show as a child and thought it was amazing, now after rewatching as a 21 year old do I understand how deep and complex the show actually is and how the show gets better as you age. Truly one of the best animated shows I've ever watched.
The way Mako voiced iroh, absolutely brilliant. You can truly hear the age, wisdom, experience , and sage-liness whenever he spoke as well as the humor. Rest in peace Mako, and long live Iroh!

I’ve been helping a friend through a rough time and I’ve found myself sounding like or inadvertently quoting Uncle Iroh all the time when I talk to her. I’m only 24 lol.

Huh. I'm in my 30s yet I discovered Avatar when I was in high school. Watched every episode and waited for the next with bated breath. I will never forget the feelings it gave me.

I think Iroh is one of the greatest characters ever created, if not the greatest. His humour, wisdom and kindness is truly remarkable. He’s the kind of father figure all of us need.

You know, in hindsight, it is sad that even someone as wise as Iroh thinks without a shadow of a doubt that Azula is beyond redemption
yeah I think it was mostly humor but thinking about it is sad. All the comics related to Azula basically explains that she was a psychopath or something similar. Zuko tried to help her recover from her trauma like he did. I don't think it worked and she was one of the worst tragedy in Avatar in my opinion. Zuko is lucky he had someone like Iroh, Azula had no one.

@@letsomethingshine But if you let Pride blind you, you become arrogant, you have to balance Pride and Humility to not become full of yourself and ignore knowledge from someone else that could be important to you.
If only all the people running around wearing shirts that say "(SUBJECT) Pride!" on it for reasons other than humor could take such words to heart. They scream and shout and embarrass themselves and their families, claiming that they're proud of what they are when their actions and angry-child-defiance say otherwise. It makes me wonder if they're trying to convince other people, or just themselves.

The difference between them is that knowledge is knowing how to do something or how it happened and so on, wisdom is knowing when or where to apply that knowledge. A great quote that sums it up is "Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not using it in a fruit salad." Can't remember who said it, but they were certainly right.

I may have only just recently watched through this whole show, but as a devote LOTR fan who knows what deep characters are and has read that trilogy twice, let me just say that for a "kid's show", Avatar: TLA is so mind-blowingly well written, uncle Iroh's wisdom was desperately needed by many young people today, and Zuko's character arch was practically just as satisfying as any other character I've ever seen in any other media/book. And I truly mean that.❤🙏
