    Hi Rachel! I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of 2020 and picking up knitting again has been my biggest coping relief with all the treatment and down time. I’ve mainly been knitting socks and learning how to do different techniques and now I’m really wanting to start on sweaters. Love this podcast with all your thoughts on yarn and patterns. The knitting community has become a new and loved friend and I’m grateful. Thank you for sharing!

      Thank you for your comment Adella! I also love sock knitting and feel the same way about this community. I'm glad you made your way here. Wishing you all the best (really truly!) for treatment and recovery.

    I just stumbled across your channel and love it! We have such similar knitting journeys! I'm VERY left-handed and enjoyed crocheting before knitting. I am so thankful for my spatial analysis skills to be able to turn knitting patterns/tutorials backwards or inside out to be able to do them left-handed. I have also, like you, learned in such a way that I have learned so much but don't have much to show for it since I'm a big frogger as well. I love your pieces - thanks for sharing!!

    You see I jumped into socks right away which everyone told me not to do, but It genuinely was a good idea because it’s a smaller project but taught me sooo much & so many different techniques. But I really want to try something larger, I still have issues with sizing & swatching so I’m thinking maybe a shawl?? But those sweaters you made are amazing especially for a beginner!

    • @woolseeknitting
      @woolseeknitting  2 роки тому

      I totally see how that could work. And I personally find socks to be such engaging projects because of the different techniques switching things up whenever I get tired of a section. A bunch of these sweaters are totally beginner friendly, and if you were interested I do recommend :)

    Thanks for a really great video, loved your makes and it gave me lots of inspiration. I feel your pain with the Hobbii Tencel Bamboo, i started a gift make (crocheting) in this yarn in the "fine" - oh my days but it is utterly infuriating to work with, i also found it exactly like you described. Beautiful but splitty and SO difficult to work with. I abandoned and chose a different yarn as it was for a big project however i may return to it as it is so silky - difficult decisions 😊

      Right?? I have over a ball and a half left and every so often I take it out of stash to think about knitting with again because I LOVE the finished result but man is it ever a headache. I hope you find a project that is tolerable to knit with it soon! I think I might end up leaving mine until my top wears out and knitting it all over again, hoping that my experience means it'll be a faster process.

    Such a lovely selection of knits! Thanks for showing them. I'm so impressed with your Cottongrass sweater. It's amazing for a first sweater! I really appreciate how you take the time to talk about your thought process when choosing yarn. I also like to be mindful but am on a limited budget.

      Thank you so much Ashley! Don't be fooled, the Cottongrass took me soooo much time because of how new I was, I just had the time and determination to keep at it. With knitting being an expensive hobby, that tension of wanting to be mindful and ethical while also conscious of cost is always present with me... it's tough finding a balance!

    Hi Rachel! I completely relate on craving neutrals lately- I’ve knit a greyish beige sweater, a green one with neutral colorwork (green IS a neutral!), and am working on an off-white one with plans for all the greys and browns. Not sure why but they’re addicting!
    I also wanted to say I haven’t had cancer, but got really into knitting when I was having a steep downward spiral with my health from chronic illnesses. It was (and still is) something to do that felt productive and therapeutic at the same time that I could do even while laying in bed feeling terrible or waiting at an appointment and feel a little less “in my pain.” I don’t know if your experience was at all similar, but thought I would let you know that I can somewhat relate to how you fell in love with knitting. I am so happy to hear that you’re in remission and wish you all the health and happiness! As always your garments are beautifully made and I look forward to seeing what you make next!

    • @woolseeknitting
      @woolseeknitting  2 роки тому +1

      Green IS a neutral, I'm glad you agree! I have some friends who fervently argue leopard print is a neutral, so really I think it's all relative.
      Your description of getting into knitting during a bad health spell is definitely true to my experience as well. Kat of Heather and Hops talking about how knitting helps her with her chronic illness and dealing with health and a new relationship with your body and abilities is part of what drew me in so much last year. I think there are a lot of us in the same boat that way. I'm glad we both were able to find knitting, and I hope you are doing well!! Health and happiness to you as well

    A plucked turkey 😂 I feel that deeply. I think we have similar skin tones, and surprisingly its kinda difficult sometimes to find flattering colors. A lot of colors I am drawn to just don't look good on me in garment form. The mauve of the shiny happy cotton on you is absolutely beautiful! I think it would make a great dress.

    • @woolseeknitting
      @woolseeknitting  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah mood! I so want to knit and wear a beige sweater but most beiges make me look not good. I wish I remembered to insert the photo of me in the failed sweater because it's really something. Shiny happy cotton is a great yarn imo, it's very soft and the colours work really well with my skin so might for you too. It's just kinda pricey, and I don't see that many patterns I really want in an Aran weight cotton yarn.

    This was such a fun and helpful video, I got a lot of inspiration from it. I’m looking to knit the Cozy Classic Raglan and also one of the tops from Jessie Maed Designs soon! 😍
    For the lose stitch/fake hole on your Ranunculus, what I usually do to make it look better is to pull on the adjacent stitches on that same row and “spread the hole”. Not sure if that’s helpful in any way. Feel free to ignore it 😬
    Thanks for sharing your projects 🙏🏼

    You already know just how much I love watching all of your videos.
    I am so mighty happy to hear about your recovery. My mother and my friend both had it too and have pulled through like yourself so I get when you choose to concentrate on your actual life and happiness more so than pondering on bad situations that we may have previously had. I more than adore your mentality. Green is a colour that my daughter laughs at me about because I too am obsessed with it. i have really really hold myself back from buying any more green stuff as I try to venture out a bit more these days with struggle haha;o)
    Anyway golly gosh your explanation about getting into knitting and then having to deal with plenty of trial and error totally reminded me of myself haha.
    The Haizy sky sweater was soooo nice to see on you because i have been staring at the pattern for ages.. Your Jessi Mae blue top was OMG Perfectly naturally sexy..Soooo majorly impressive. The cosy classic raglan fit on you was MORE THAN PERFECT!!The dress is brilliant.. like you rightfully said it is just a case as to how much one can bare the constant stockinette in the round but majorly worth the effort. THE ONE THAT I WANT TOP...OMG you managed to get the fitting so damn perfect especially around the sides of your breasts as some of the knitted patterns that people make do not often cover the sides of the breast as well as your fabulous top turned out. Now I want to make one too.. Plus the very last 2 sweaters again had really great fitting for your body. The scallop one looks posh and expensive... I am more than impressed. WELL DONE AS ALWAYS YOU ANGEL.

    I am amazed at how many sweaters you have knitted as a beginner. I still have not knitted a sweater! I do mainly shawls. Have you tried felting a project with the yarn you frogged too many times it is not viable to knit a sweater? Or added to another yarn to make it stronger. Just a thought if you want to use it.

    • @woolseeknitting
      @woolseeknitting  2 роки тому

      I am very curious about felting and hope to one day dip in toe into it to maybe make an extra wind resistant pair of mittens or a cowl, or maybe those energy and money saving wool dryer balls!
      See, I had a lot of time on my hands to knit sweaters, but I've never done a shawl or a scarf :)

    Hi from Vancouver!! I love your budget friendly choices for yarn! Once you use mohair you can never go back, unfortunately for your wallet, and especially when it comes to Sandnes Garn and KFO and those aren’t even the top tier prices! (That’s right, I see you isager 👀)

    • @woolseeknitting
      @woolseeknitting  2 роки тому

      I want to try the KFO mohair SO badly and keep telling myself "no, knit from stash, knit from stash, you dont need mohair projects...." but the colours are to die for and I really appreciate their sustainability and animal welfare ethics. Maybe once I finally work down a lot of my existing yarns and get a full time job I can indulge for a sweater project, but that's a waaays off!
