    That should not have been Murray's point at 5:21
    It should have been Djokovic's point
    It touched the net outside the singles stick (permanent feature) also it hit part of the ATP net signage (which is also clearly defined as a permanent fixture)
    But, it was still a great point!

  • @joemarshall4226
    @joemarshall4226 5 років тому +3

    Notice the backspin dropshot at 2:30. Del Potro could have leaped the net into the doubles alley and slapped the ball onto the court just before it hit the ground. As long as you don't touch the singles court or the net, it's legal.

  • @ThanhaoCong
    @ThanhaoCong 6 років тому +6

    Murray's shot at 5:28 was actually a fault because the ball touched the net outside singles stick which is the permanent fixture. Djokovic should have won the point.
    "In a singles match played with a doubles net and singles sticks, the net posts and the part of the net outside the singles sticks are permanent fixtures and are not considered as net posts or part of the net."

    • @thecavewarrior1715

      Thành Đào-Công,
      this rule does not exist at the atp tour.
      Just imagine in Murray vs Djokovic Match that there was a single‘s net murrays ball would go in also. So does not matter if it hits the outside of the single‘s net...

    • @ThanhaoCong
      @ThanhaoCong 6 років тому

      TheCaveWarrior Do you know where the rules say that for ATP? I suppose the rules are universal otherwise ATP and WTA or even each tournament could change the rules and it would be confusing to watch.
      And if there was only singles net post, of course Murray's shot was legal if the ball didn't pass over the net. No rule states that you have to hit the ball over the net. But if you hit the ball to any permanent fixture before it lands into court, you lose point right away.

    Fortune favours the brave. The more aggressive the player the better chance that they will get some freakish luck. My luckiest shot was a ball that bounced off the net post and then hit the umpire's chair before landing back in court. We had a lengthy discussion about whether it should be counted as it had hit an object outside the court. The umpire ruled in my favour but I'm not sure he was right.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 5:52, if you play singles and put the single's stick, the net outside the single's stick doesn't count, so if someone hit the net past the single stick automatically looses the point, regardless of where the ball lands. Murray hit the ball on the net outside the single's stick and he still got the point.

      @neehime6 6 років тому

      Jack Lo the rule says the raxket shouls be before and after hita the ball. That's not the same as you said. If you are skilled enough (or lucky enough) to do something like that with the racket it is not a problem.

    • @KnickKnack07
      @KnickKnack07 6 років тому +7

      Joe...don't guess and act like you know what you're talking about. This is a VERY famous point by Connors. And no....it did not count for the very reason given in the OP. Nor did Connors expect it to count. And his opponent ALSO knew it wouldn't count which is why he didn't make even the slightest move toward the ball which he easily could have gotten to. The reason why he didn't go for is is because he knows the rule, which says "A player shall lose the point if the ball in play touches the racket when the player is not holding it."

    0:00 is not a regular hit. I think it is against the rule. Was it really a point for the player who threw up his racket? Once I read the offical tennis rules and as I remember it clearly says that the player must hold the racket when the racket hits the ball. If the player does not touch the racket when the racket hits the ball, he/she looses the point.

      net clearance is the keyword here. nadal moonballs on really hard balls to return (he moonballs with topspin). federer risks more and he always plays it flatter or just slices it (if he moonballs it's underspin, rarely topspin). basically nadal gets less lucky shots because he risks less, like djokovic. federer has a really offensive game and takes lots of risks, aswell taking the ball early with decreases net clearance probabilities. these "lucky" shots of federer's are just results of his playstyle
