You forget the popcorn when you watch a match as fast paced as this. Kudos to Gael who showed his intent to best Roger into submission. For once he chose to put his flamboyance in his pocket & focused on his game. But the guy across the net is not called the maestro for nothing. You need more than just your A game. Great match to feature. As always you never disappoint. Now if only we gave the popcorn to Carlos.
Yeah, Monfils just decided to hope it was out, and it wasn't... the line call happened when the ball was already well behind him. Quite embarassing for him to pretend that the point should've been replayed.

If his backhand was 2-handed, he would have beaten Djokovic as the goat of tennis. Undoubtedly, the 1-handed backhand was Fed's Achilles heel that Nadal and Djoker capitalized on.
Very good match, lots of incredible gets and clean winners. To be honest I can’t see how Gael was complaining that he left the ball because it was called out. The ball had hit the back wall before it got called. He wouldn’t have got to it. At that point you can see Gael play just that little bit more tentative and then you see Roger add a little more spice to his shots and that’s what the difference is. Gael was playing good but good won’t get it done against Roger, he had to keep Pressing even if it meant he would make more errors. You can only go for it for so long until you realize that the finish line is within sight and you take your foot slightly off the gas and Roger seized that moment and momentum was his. The way Roger glides around the court and the footwork before each shot is a thing of beauty. How good was the return in the second point shown in the video
Federer won the 1st set, he was never losing in this game. Yeah the umpire wasn’t the greatest and he didn’t make Federer super angry, maybe just a little frustrated. He argued for like 5 seconds and then hit a ball out of the stadium but that was it.
Have been a big Federer fan since the beginning of his career, but only lately have i started noticing how salty he got whenever he felt there was a genuine threat.
The challenged call on point 1 of the 7th game, of Set #3., was a right challenge, because it was found by Hawkeye, to be in. Fed is the greatest watch and shoe salesman. His tennis was sqaush and thank god nadal/dj0oki came along to save tennis from fedsqaush. Fed had no fight, weak backhand ,weak mental strength all he had was winning the populatiry contest that big corp sold to the armchair tennis crowd..His carrerr record agaisnt his 2 rivals was a failure ..He only won 33% of his GS matches and GS finlas against novak/nadal..He couldn't even beat nadal once at french and only 2 other times on clay. Djoki beat nadal 9 times on clay ,2 times at french and Just recently at Olympics on NAdal grounds again!! Fed won 15 slams in the goldilocks era 2003-2009 when sampras/aggassi were leaving ..after nadal/djoki/murray/wawrinka got going fed's sqaush game faded away and only won a handful of GS over the next 13 yrs!!
RF is under strain. RF is saying he should have looked over to him indicating the ball could be challenged. as far as Monfils - he did not challenge a call but later complained about it. that is a low-level person. have to call a spade a spade here ....
Why the stupid click-bait title? Not necessary - was a good match for both players - Monfils gave as good as he got and played many brilliant points against an on form Federer.
pretty classic .... Federers opponent is physically more gifter, but mentally less gifted. period. this guy could have won numerous points where he just kind of hit average returns at a crucial moment in the point.
we honestly cannot say RF is " less gifted . " we certainly can say as you say, that RF tends to grossly outperform his opponents mentally. without RF these guys at the top level are monsters of base-line technique. when RF is on he makes them - honestly - seem like lost children .

Monfils (France) like kirgios of Australia, not many major wins but very scary individual/unreal points. Robert at 69 in Arizona.
