Stood outside the mot station last week with my old V plate thinking here we go. Passed with a clean sheet!! 😂 to be fair, I've done a good bit of work (like you) to the old boy. The next issue is poor starting in a morning, oh the joys. Great channel, and keep up the good work Derek 👏
I had a Disco 2 a while back and loved it, I had to sell it when I moved to Scotland. Eventually I replaced it with a TD5 Defender which has its positives and is simpler to work on, but its nowhere near as comfortable as the old Disco was.
Glad they caught it in time and you’re still here. My surf is also a second gen, not a third gen. Some exciting stuff coming up this year on it, it’s going back on the road and getting another lift, not as high as the ones we used to see at Whitby goth show though, well, not yet anyway lol
Had a Hilux Surf as a work vehicle about 20 years ago. At the time you could buy a decent one for about £1,500 - a proper bargain. Think, at the time, they were all getting bought in Japan for peanuts and shipped over here for sale.
@ they’re great cars / trucks / SUV things. Mine was about 1400, it’s number 2 of 3 that I’ve owned. Don’t think Japan are allowed to keep anything over 10yrs old on the road, so everything gets exported.
@@DoubleZeroGarage Yep, I've heard that the Japanese "MOT" for vehicles over 10 years old is £3,000-odd, which pretty-much forces people to buy a new car AND decimates the domestic value of an old car.
Like the Discovery and have always liked the Range Rover classic there's just something about them. I didn't realise you had been on you tube quite some time. Plenty of videos to work through. America i think is a fascinating place.
We started off as a Disney channel. We would be there now but for the cost. Florida is my favourite followed by Colorado. We love the place. Then the alternator failed on Big Lollopy and I could not find a UA-cam vid for D2'S. So, I did my own, badly, but then one thing led to another . . . Thank you for watching!
Definitely thinking of investing in one of those "window vacuums" to combat the indoor rain that happens when my D2 defrosts for the first time in a week. People take the mickey out of Land Rovers but over Xmas I've pulled out 3 cars (including a shiny new Discovery 5 Sport) that were stuck on embarassingly short, but slippery, grass and I've jump-started half a dozen cars with flat batteries. And, the old girl's running like a Swiss watch... or, at least, like a Swiss cement mixer. 😕
This last week has been the epitome of Land Rover ownership. This is the reason why we put up with their faults and foibles for this one time when they are in their element. Well Done for helping out the lesser fortunate!! Long Live Swiss Cement Mixers!
Heh, just got to the end and you mentioned Fylde Windscreens. Recall you saying you'd had your sunroofs serviced and they did a good job and I was going to message you to ask who it was. Pretty sure mine need doing but, having already pulled the headliner out to retrim it, I'm not in a hurry to take it out again, although I fear that it might be wise to remove it before I get the sunroofs sorted 'cos I have a feeling my problem is that at least one of the drain-pipes on the sunroofs might be leaking/cracked/broken and I might as well let the experts get a proper look at it all. Probably best to leave it until the weather's better though.
If he is still doing that job, I can recommend him. He'll be more expensive now, but If I had the spare cash, I would be over there for a Day in Blackpool!
Hi Derek, let get off on a good note, did you lubricate your rubbers, SEALS ON THE DOORS?? Thought I got out of being rained on, whilst driving, from the frozen sunroof, now I've got the X-trail t31. Had to scrape off Ice on the inside of the front screen, took me back to my D2 TD5 days. The smug look, like Jezzer Clarkson, was all over my face when i went up our street, which is on a steep gradient, complete Sheet ice, even people walking could not stand up, other cars spinning out, went up without fuss in 2 wheel drive. Should have seen peoples faces. Could be skill or tyre choice or both. Running on Micheline Cross latitude All season. Good tyre overall but feels like you are on a knife edge when trying to keep the vehicle straight on normal road conditions.
Nope, I have to admit, I have run out of silicone spray. Got away with mostly! Good tyres Michelin's. Had 'em on my Granada. No snow now, all gone. Just the potholes remain!
Happy New Year to you! D2'2 come with a LT230 transfer box, or a FTC4962 . The R380 gearbox is standard. I have the ZF 4HP22 auto box which is also fitted to the V8's. The difference between them is considerable. The auto is much easier to use but lacks power. The manual is harder to operate plus the heavy clutch but you have more control. I have had both and I would choose the auto every time. Just don't try to overtake anything faster than a pedal cycle!

Thank you! I might need a new battery for next year I think. Too many short journeys at the moment. Might be a fuel pump too!
Great video. I am glad to be recommended this by UA-cam on the homepage.
Watched all the way through. Cheers
Thank you!
Thank you for your Entertainment I always enjoy to follow You
Thought you were getting rid of Disco there for a bit I'm glad you're keeping it videos are great
So long as I can afford it!

Quite agree. The D2 is as close as you can get to agricultural but simple enough to work on and be comfortable!

@ yep, hope they don’t start that here, it’s be a nightmare
Oh, in that case my Surf was a first Gen. The headlamps were more recessed than your's. Time is playing havoc with my memory!

They're a good motor when they've been looked after. My last 2 mot's have sailed through. Don't know if I could ever get rid of mine now lol.
Get under the skin don't they?

Hallo and a good and healthy New Year
Do you have any Idea if there is a diffrence on an LT230 fpr Manualgearbox R380 or Automatic Transmission
