For a time, late in my career, I worked with a couple of lovely Canadian gentlemen. Very sadly one of them died during an earthquake in Haiti, whilst there working with the UN. What struck me about them was their eternal optimism even when faced with seemingly impossible odds. Your comment about routing the edges in the hope it would hurt a bit less if walking into a very large and heavy slab of wood, reminded me very much of what seems to be a uniquely Canadian virtue 🙂
In all seriousness though (not that I wasn't serious about that virtue), that is an absolutely gorgeous looking bench-top, and the combination of black and white and the warmth of that bench is just wonderful. It's really nice to see so much time and effort going into making an inviting living space. People often forget that we don't always have picture-perfect weather when we travel, and having a nice habitat out of inclement weather is the difference between being cosy, or miserable. A fun instalment to watch.

Just wait until I apologize to the counter for bumping into it 🤪. Absolutely, the inside needs to be somewhere we want to be as well, we will be spending a lot of time there!

WOWWEE! Absolutely LOVE the contrast between the warm wood and cool white walls/cabinets! Nice work, both of you.

Thanks! I don’t imagineer any of how it looks - I just build it as I’m told to, so I can’t take any credit for the style - but if it’s crooked it’s my fault!!

I adore clearcoat oil finishes on wood. Is that boiled linseed oil, mineral oil, tung oil, or a mix? Tung and BLO polymerize and build up a finish, while mineral oil is simply soaks in. Nice countertop. Don't forget to put a couple coats of finish on the bottom, Krista!
What a lovely difference! That warms up the entire habitat.

This is mineral oil - so it will need repeated application. We did the bottom as well 😎

NOW YOU'VE DONE IT !!! 😒😒 My girlfriend saw your counter and she wants this in our new RV box... 😜Nice job resolving problems. I think people don't realize all the little problems that pop up when tackling a project like this.

Haha - well she has good tastes I guess! If it wasn’t for running into problems, and filming all of this, I’d have been finished this project a year and a half ago 🤣🤣🤣

Hey there! I love all your videos; they’ve been super helpful for me as I just purchased a 2017 fuso canter fe180 with the 4p10 engine!
I had an unrelated question to this video in particular but where did you get the locking fuel cap? I tried ordering one from Amazon and it was slightly too large so I’ve ordered another that will arrive soon but figured you might have some insight.
    Thanks in advance!!

Well thanks for watching - and Amazon of course! Mine is a Stant 10413. I need to clean the threads up a bit for a better fit - but it seems to go on and lock on! Here is an associate link!

That's a great butcher block. When going off grid it will save you having to go and find a on grid supermarket to buy meat. As a safety consideration you will have to ensure that your young lady stays outside when you are swinging the meat chopper in that small space! Otherwise great work.

Well, to be honest based on our history of raising chickens and rabbits, it’ll be me that’s sure to be on the outside while the butcher swings the cleaver!!!
