Although a release of a new helicopter model is a rather rare event, it's fun to see how newer models compare to the older ones. Here are some of the fastest helicopters that currently exist. Which one do you like the most?
As a former Army Officer, I think the Army needs two or three variations of the tilt rotor hybrid. We need one variation that is totally assault and another utility one and last a medevac fast mover. But the airbus aircraft for 8.6 million is a great deal.
The maximum speed achieved by the serial KA 50 "Black shark" helicopter is 390 km/h .Flight operation manual limited speed 315км/h. Maximum speed achieved serial MI-24 helicopter is 368km/h. Flight manual the speed of operation of the MI-24 is limited to 335km/h
The coaxial drive contra-rotating rotors still make the Sikorsky models a true helicopter unlike the tilt wings. Speed isn't everything instant low speed maneuverability front back side to side, no need to tilt the fuselage to move like a traditional helicopter with slower response, hovering and remaining stationary while the nose is pointed down, the Sikorsky is the one for me.
I've known for decades about the trailing rotor stall characteristics.. However, I never considered contra-rotating mains and how they may expand beyond what normal rotors / tail are able to achieve in high speed cruise flight..
The Bell V-280 is the clear choice for the U.S. military ... I hope. I would love to see more powerful engines to increase the altitude and esp. the speed to 400-plus MPH esp. if that could be the cruising speed with a maximum of well over that and which is possible without jet engine thrust. Wider wings by just as few inches would increase range too with little extra drag, no doubt. (Not a helicopter but for the same purpose or replacement of vertical lift/landing craft.)
It seems to me that the helicopter format has exhausted its potential. A helicopter will always be limited in regards to speed & altitude. Many executives make use of both helicopters & business jets or at least business planes to travel as they need. Obviously combining those two functions in one craft has enormous potential. What I am wondering is why hasn't a larger version of this kind of craft been developed? Something of small or medium air liner size w/ maybe 4 tiltrotors would seem to have a big pay off, it seems so to me.
Do the coaxial rotors, counter rotating rotors, on X2 style craft auto rotate when there is a loss of power as they do on most conventional helicopters?
Tiltrotors have the same tricky behavior with the AV-8B. Wings cannot create lift at low speed so tilting the rotors must be executed before slowing down prior to approach angle
For purety, learn to fly in a Bell 47. True world vision in it's best form. A 70 m.p.h. cruise allow one to observe more per minute than these speed machines.
The V22 Osprey is a beautiful tilt rotor aircraft, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the useless v280 valor.
Would love for military to receive a Cobra Viper based strike airplane. Two side x side main rotors for lift and maneuvering powered by current Viper power plants. Two modified Viper engines or two redesigned Little Bird engines putting out record setting forward thrust. (Also, 2 side mounted forward facing M102’s out of the AC130, GAU-8 nose mounted cannon, up to 16 SDBs or 16 Hellfire or 4 2.75 rocket pods, or pair of quad MK-19 machine gun) Or a MH-65 upgraded to four total engines and two smaller radius side by side mounted main rotors for lift and maneuvering; the rear rotor would stay just cuz it looks 😎. 5 person aircraft crew, 18 floor loaded strike infantry or passenger area converted to SDB, DAP munitions bay akin to fixed wing bombers
I get that this list was probably hard to make since most helicopters are slower than jets but tilt rotor aircrafts are not helicopters. There was 3 of them in this list.
Your channel deserves more subscribers as it is so versatile giving the very fine and minute necessary details, in today's video you didn't mentioned the maximum ceiling/altitude height the particular helicopter can achieve.
