Out of all the sounds in the world, I just love the sound of helicopters. I don't know why but when I hear one, I drop everything and try to find it then follow it until I can't hear it anymore. Such cool helicopters and just look how sleek they look. 👍🇨🇦💯

It actually has one the lower mishap rates in the US Navy/Marine Corps inventory. The aircraft with the highest mishap rate is the C-20, a military version of the Gulfstream G-III/G-IV.

@@mac2626 Compared to what? I keep telling you that compared to other aircraft and rotorcraft in the US Navy/ US Marine Corps inventory, the V-22 has one of the lowest mishap rates in terms of mishaps per 10,000 flight hours. The CH-53 has a much higher mishap rate. You are ignoring the fact that the great majority of the 400 + V-22 fleet flies every single day, often from ships and in combat zones. The CH-53 has an absolutely miserable maintenance history and very low availability. They don't fly a lot of hours because they are broken and can't fly. We used to jokingly call the CH-53E the "static display". The V-22 flies a lot and the CH-53 not so much. As a result the V-22 might appear to have more mishaps but not in proportion to how much they are flow. You are more likely to die in a CH-53E, or a C-20 (military version of the Gulfstream III/IV) than a V-22.
Two of the losses you mention (maybe 3 because we don't know why the USAF lost their CV-22 spec ops bird) were combat losses including one that landed hard, the crew survived and the aircraft was repairable but because it could not be retrieved from an active combat zone it was blown up to prevent it from being captured. I flew the V-22s predecessor, the CH-46, another so-called widowmaker because it had a high mishap rate among US Marine aircrews for a time. A lot of those crashed too, especially Marine Corps CH-46s. It was not inherently unsafe but the Marines sometimes abused them, violated the NATOPS and when you do that the aircraft just might kill you. The Marines were using a flight control mode that was only supposed to be used in a hover. The co-pilot would reach out and put a finger over the pitot tube to fool the flight control system into thinking airspeed was zero. They could zoom into a hot LZ and do a rapid stop. Only problem was it over stressed the aft plyon and soon enough aft pylons started breaking off. Not the helicopter's fault but everyone outside of the CH-46 community started calling it a "widowmaker". Boeing later came up with a completely different digital flight control system that was Marine-proof and no more aft pylon failures. The Marines also do a lot of flying on night vision goggles. I lost one friend because the ambient light fell below the threshold for the older NVGs they were using and they went black. Before they could rip the NVGs off and transition to instrument flight they hit a hillside and crashed. Is that the aircraft's fault? The non flying non military public doesn't know what we do with rotorcraft in an operational environment or just how dangerous that environment is.

So after showing an LA County Sheriff Super Puma on the ground they switch to showing a Mil Mi-8 or Mi-17 in the air. The three bladed tail rotor, lack of stub wings and main landing gear on legs instead of on a stubwing are the giveaways. They show another Mi-8 or Mi17 in blue and white later in the video. Then, oh look, then they show a big Mi-26 Halo leading a gaggle of what I think are Mi-38s, all while talking about the Super Puma.

The opening segments of the discussion of the AW-609 show video of the Bell V-280 Valor prototype that recently won the competition for the next generation medium lift rotorcraft for the US Army. Then you finally show images of the AW609. The Valor has a V tail and only the rotors and their gearboxes tip up for hovering flight. The engine pods remain horizontal. On the AW-609 the entire engine pod rotates from horizontal to vertical like the V-22 upon which it is based. The AW-609 has a high mounted T tail.

King Stallion flyaway cost is now a lot more than $90 million. It is closer to $120 million, up there with the F-35B. Cost per flight hour is similarly staggering. And obtw, when I flew the BV-234 Civil Chinook for Columbia Helicopters circa 1990-91 our Chinooks were rated for 28,000 pounds on the cargo hook and we hauled loads that heavy all day every day. So much for your over priced King Stallion!

The first helicopter on the list nh90 looks like a modern mh60 Blackhawk if it had originally been designed within the last 15 years. I would say the ah64 Apache is coolest aircraft on this list especially considering how long ago it was designed and put into service. It was a technological marvel. However that wouldn’t really be fair to this list considering it really doesn’t fit into the same category as all the other helicopters on this list since it’s only role/function is combat.
I like the looks of the Bell 525 and EC135 the best.

Only two short clips of the similar Mi-17 were shown... every other clip was the Super Puma. Once again, they look similar... however the landing gear, windows and tail are the only visible difference. Puma however has much more lift and failsafe's than the Mi-17.

But don't feel too offended. Locally there was a flyer advertising a dance to celebrate the birthday of the US Navy. On the flier were images of the MiG-29. You talk about the Sikorsky Firehawk variant of the S-70 Blackhawk, but you show video footage of a Polish PZL Swidnik W-3A Sokot carrying a "Bambi Bucket". What gives? The Firehawk has a water tank faired into the belly and uses a suction hose hanging from below to suck water from lakes or tanks. If you don't know the material then don't make the video.

Westland Lynx used by more Navies than just about any other Anti-Sub and Anti Ship Helicopter. Also missing is the Augusta Westland (Leonardo) Wildcat. Very obvious omission is the Augusta Westland EH101 Merlin. Agree with "759Ai" that the NH 90 has been a disaster, Super Puma has its critics but the Eurocopter Tiger Attack Helicopter is the biggest failure, just ask Australia which wasted a fortune on this failed aircraft. Australia also has decided that the Eurocopter/Airbus NH-90 was a waste of money.
