Bog filters are great. Easy maintenance and good results. Plants will grow fantastic and will help eliminate algae growth. With all the small pebbles bacteria can colonize well. However I’ve found you will still need something with a fine filter media to get the tiny fines. If you don’t have koi there’s little problems, however koi produce a LOT of poop and filters need to be sized to your pond size and fish load. Nice video 👍🏼👍🏼
I did roughly the same filter, with a pipe dedicated to blow air from top to bottom to clean the rocks from time to time and pouzzolane. After 24h in my small pond (850 liters) I can see the pump at the bottom. Maybe an additional pre filter be needed but in the end it already works well !
I should have showed the pump more. It has 2 shields that clip on. You can clip them off and clean. Needs doing once a week otherwise flow can deteriorate.
Great video, can I ask how do you stop syphoning if the pump went off. Just finished one this morning the bog was empty as turned off the pump to make sure it was okay..if I use a breather pipe does the inlet pipe sit inside it but not all the way down.. sorry for the questions, just trying to get my head around this..thank you
Install a piece of pipe to bottom of bog with right angle going into void area. At top above water level have a t piece to act a siphon. Here is a link to video explains it well. ua-cam.com/video/zvoOCq3gcTc/v-deo.htmlsi=SL86ssPk-y6y4bri. I have a shutoff valve to stop water going back in if I turn of pump for maintenance. This doesn't help with pond failure however. On the rare occasion pond pump fails I don't think its the end of the world if water drains back in. Done it loads of times when forgetting to use valve. Never got any spikes in ammonia or anything.
In the future it is better to drill the holes inside or on a blanket or something to prevent getting a lot of plastic throughout the entire garden. ;-). Nico job anyway!
The filter is a failure by all standards because it will not allow water to pass through it over time, especially if the tank contains fish and they cannot be practically cleaned.
I flush it once a week. By opening valve. I have filters like this I have not got gravel out of and cleaned for years. Just flush it. The plants in top flourish. I test water coming directly out of filter. Clean. Obviously you size it to pond. If numbers of large koi it is not sufficient by itself even in larger size. But can work well as an addition to existing system. I was skeptical at first but after watching numerous videos tried using one to run along with existing filters. I have one that has been running on pond with 8 koi. Plants in it had crazy growth. Still filtering.
I have a bog filter and a great filter without to much maintenance 😎👌🌱🌱
You done a great job there 👏👏
Thanks for watching
This was fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing! 👏
Glad you enjoyed it.

Yes I agree mate. I think they are great for small ponds or as additions to koi ponds with existing filtration. Keeps that water nice and clear.

Yes I tend to use the pumps that have filter mesh inside. Tend to get them on Blagdon pumps. And flush regularly. Squeeze mesh out once a week.
Loved the video, thanks matey and keep up the great work 👍
Thanks much appreciated
Good video but was there a pump shield net fitted afterwards?

Yes the plastic can be nasty for wildlife. I tried to pick as much up as possible. Thanks for advice.
