I do understand his issues with the menuing, half the gameplay if you want to use all the mechanics properly is spent paused, fusing arrows, selecting materials to drop, swapping abilities… this is an improvement to botw but it’s super rough because of how busy they made it. idk what he means about the controls tho (combat is definitely bad but not because the controls are bad, because all you do is mash attack button with different fused weapons)

The fusion stuff was slightly irritating to have to perform every time, but overall I think it was a great change from BotW.
In TotK the ingredients tab is really the weapons tab. The weapons tab is more like a weapon handle tab, for which quality/tier don't matter as much, and they're way easier to come by.
So now you basically have unlimited weapons at all times, depending on how many materials you've hoarded. You'll always have a bunch of construct horns or bokoblin horns at the very least.
thats a fun way to think about it, i found the system actually encouraged me to go out of my way to hunt more difficult monsters so i could get cooler weapons. in botw i avoided almost everything late game because it was pointless to waste my durability for some monster parts. definitely a good change

As much as I love Joseph Anderson, he really based a *lot* of his jokes in this around the game running poorly while it was clearly running just fine.
He also loves talking about how little they changed from the first game as if they personally watched his critiques and only cared about those opinions, not just "game sold well, do the same again".

ToTK's preformance should be better because it heavily re-uses BoTW and still hasn't been fixed.
@@ana.alliterative Frankly, for a game of its size and quality, BoTW ran incredibly well. At this point, I don't think it's the game's fault, but rather the console that it's on.

This is the problem with so many sequels. TOTK, GoW Ragnarok, Spiderman 2, they're all just glorified level packs with worse writing.

This game sucks. It's just more minecraft bullshit. Zelda is supposed to be an adventure game. This isn't one. This is just a $70 DLC for BOTW, which was a good adventure game.

His struggle in combat would be solved if he just used the fuse ability or figured out some weapons are more sturdy and better for fusion. Hope he does a review of this game because I would love to hear his criticism and what he loved. Game is probably one of if not my favorite zelda game but I understand why many are frustrated by it

I still dont get why people dislike the durability system. I rarely ever ran out of weapons and every time they do break its pretty satisfying to see a monster just fly away after the weapon shatters or dying after a spear explodes in their face. I agree chests pretty much still suck ass though but hey killing monsters gives monster parts which is a plus now because of fuse. This game is miles better than BotW though, absolute blast.

you basically described the only 1 out of 6 points when he argued for/against the weapon breaking system in his botw video. he agrees with you on that single point, and then lists 5 more that are against it. it starts at 1:28:48 in "Breath of the Wild - Not Enough Zelda"
now that totk is out i can even say that fusing has only made this problem worse, because in botw you'd kill an enemy then take their weapon, simple. in totk you kill an enemy, you then must have an unfused weapon, equip that weapon, go over the material, fiddle with the controls to select that material, fuse it, and then you can actually use the "dropped" weapon. totk made things even worse

They could be retrying the game to see if it clicks better for them now with a better mindset, it could be because the game is bad to the point of comedy and they want to show it off, or it could be as a palette cleanser to help them appreciate other better designed titles, among a myriad of other reasons.

@@vivid8979 I never said anything like that. OP was asking about why people play games they hate, so I was listing off some reasons why.
Joe tends to be vocally critical during streams, likely because people expect him to be because of the main channel videos. Think of it like Mystery Science Theater 3000; people like to watch others riff on things, and Joe tends to play into that with his critic persona. Sometimes it can be a bit much though, I understand.

I know that people on UA-cam uses a persona to gain audience and such but when you are making a critique on something (Which is his main Content) it should be true and void of that Persona since it'll come out as a sarcasm....

Joe makes videos based upon what he finds interesting, whether he loves it or hates it, he wants to give the game a critical look. When writing videos, naturally he assumes a persona. A persona in this context meaning a subconscious change in how someone speaks and acts to specific people. Y'know how you act a bit differently depending on who you're speaking to? Same thing, just in this case he's writing and recording a video meant for the public (and more specifically his subscribers) to see instead of directly speaking to someone. There's nothing inherently wrong with using a persona (we all do on a daily basis), so long as that persona still accurately represents how you honestly feel.
All that being said, Joe's videos tend to go to (literal) great lengths to try and make sure he gets his opinions across with evidence to back them up. Take for example his Mario Odyssey video. Regardless of what you think of the game or the video, it's clear that Joe is passionate on his opinion that the majority of the moons are bad, has put a lot of thought into said opinion, and made like an hour long section dedicated to trying to support it. Joe, to me, is the antithesis of what you say; the way he acts in his videos is because he genuinely believes in what he's saying, not because he's trying to get easy clicks for being a contrarian.

But he just, I dunno, doesn't have a filter I guess? Like, it seems he literally cannot stop from repeating himself over and over again when one thing (or the same thing) keeps annoying him.
I can understanding getting fed up with games (I get fed up with many games), so I don't want to say that he "hates the game", but it almost feels like that at times.
I like to watch livestreams that are chill, but with his repeated criticizing of the game that gets more and more difficult to do.
Maybe it's just the way he says it, I dunno.
At some point it almost feels like he's forcing himself to play it, like it's an obligation (he's a game reviewer, so I get that it's literally his job. But he does have the choice to decide which games he streams and covers on his channel. A game reviewer doesn't have to review everything, or even every popular game). And like, I myself got burnt out on the game after only like 50 hours, so I can sympathize not wanting to play. But that's not what is happening with Joe. Like, Joe buddy, you can just not play it if it pains you that much.
(Is funny in a way, when he responded at the beginning that the whole playthrough wasn't going to be criticizing, and sure it's not, but he never really gets to that point of getting used to the game. The combat is almost a dealbreaker for him it feels like. Which, I'm only another anecdote, but it didn't seem remotely all that bad like he makes it out to be. But yadda yadda, opinions are subjective and all that)
