Ive been playing with the calamity mod for what amounts to days worth of hours so its very novel seeing a new players perspective on vanilla gameplay. Thank you for the cut, excellent work.
I always love watching first impressions - there's a magic in the discovery and curiosity of a new player being able to explore an unknown world.
It would be so sick if Joseph played Calamity
Seeing someone experience terraria unspoiled makes me notice that I never experienced a survival game without any kind of external info.
Especially since most of these kind of games I went in for the multiplayer or learned about them through videos/memes and looked stuff up out of curiosity
I love how more often than not a new player's first house looks like a horrendous tetris piece
I still build Tetris houses to this day, I always say I’ll go back and make them pretty later but I never actually do.
@@jdisdetermined My first house was just a really, really tall tower of single houses stacked on top of each other. By the time I got to moonlord the base was just about to collide with a floating island.
After that I just did boxes
@@The21stGamer Same! Though I usually keep npcs underground beneath my base building now because I like the look of stone blocks and stone walls as a basement under a wood house above ground. That’s as fancy as I get.

him fanboying over the terraria chest button is really cute and true as fuck, seriously it would save so much time in fallout or bg3 or whatever game you are managing inventory in (bg3 it would be bags but still, and I know there are mods but this way you can custom organize and also it would be base game)

I remember I got terraria on my ps3 and I was too scared to ever leave my house in the plains biome. I just had a town and I would mine stuff and that was my life I was never aware there were bosses until I got it on PC years later..
I got pinned so I'll elaborate more since im in a bathroom rn TMI I believe to my left was corruption and to my right was the desert. My copper sword would only poke sideways so the vultures and those corrupted floaters would kill me so I was trapped. If I went too deep underground bats and skeletons would kill me. I had enough to get I think the demo, merchant, nurse, and gun-maker, (I think, the specifics of terraria are still lost on me to this day) I think I was about 7 or something, I know I was in elementary school. I just treated it like a shitty minecraft clone and moved on to other games. RN though I've beaten the game about 5-6 times? And I'm currently past the eater of worlds on my first playthrough of Calamity. I end up progressing through that early game so unbelivably fast I already have the blueprint of my base and am moving on to gold-tier armor within like the first 2-3 hours or so. So it's fun to see what looked like younger me who was still filled with curiosity about what else this game held in store.
I genuenly think one of Terraria's best features is how it anounced in game events through the chat.
Stumbling into a goblin army or a meteorite is cool sure, but walking around and reading the words in bright colours just makes it that much more intriguing.

i kinda wished he played in expert mode, i feel like joe's skilled enough to deal with it and have a lot of fun with it
Yep. Expert should just be default and ditch normal altogether outside of Journey mode. I restarted my first play through to expert after learning about all the perks because evil spread was ruining my jungle anyway. So glad they fixed that. Expert has better loot, just getting dash from EoC shield and the extra acc. slot from WoF actually made expert easier than normal for me.

honestly i wish he played in master, its not too much more challenging and requires you to explore more of the games systems (eg. potions, farms etc)
I got like 1500 hours so yeah its nice seeing someone new to it play.
I have 400 hours in Terraria and ive never seen that bug at 9:00 till now
the person who thinks meteorite armor is being overequipped for eye of Cthulhu is a sadist
it so funny because i also never played terraria and knew nothing about it, and only played it with friends like December last year i think
if only he played this now with the master mode stuff, knowing him he'd straight up tried master mode first game and suffered like hell
i remember the days when Terraria on mobile only had Corruption... but lbr crimson is better because there aren't any death pits

I trimmed off the last few frames in the editor, so it should be gone. Strangely, the playback was fine when I viewed it there originally - I'm not sure if the sound is some kind of strange processing error or something else.

why is it so zoomed in?
I zoomed into the player any time there wasn't much happening near edges of the screen. I tried to keep the zoom level around 1.5x to 3x. It's a little hard to see things near the player when you're completely zoomed out. I think a good example is at 11:40.
Most of the time you don't need to see the health + map and I include those whenever necessary.

not a fan of the awkward zoom throughout the video, it’s blurry, doesn’t let us see the hotbar, and we don’t always get to see his hp/minimap. not trying to be rude at all, but it honestly turned me off of watching this video as a whole

For a "first time playing", you sure knew where to put the light heart pet in 17:20, sus, I don't mind if it's a fake "first playthough", the reactions are still cool and all.
It is "first time with chat" which isn't seen at all in the videos because I hid the backseating to make it a more seamless experience. Every reaction is always genuine though!
