- Опубліковано 7 вер 2020
- Cut Pokemon designs have been leaked in droves over the past couple years, and are easily some of the most fascinating pieces of Pokemon content out there. We've learned about so many cut designs recently, so I thought it would be fun to rank every single one of them that we know about so far from worst to best in my opinion! It'll be fun to give you my thoughts on these cut Pokemon as well as discuss them a little too, so I hope you enjoy the video!

Mega flygon being cancelled by artist block is both the funniest and saddest thing I’ve ever related to
wow you’re so quirky

All artist really suffer from the same exact problems
Fun fact about the voodoo doll Pokémon: Apparently it tries to evolve at every level, but can only learn its signature move at level 100.
That's dope as shit cause there's a legend that if you keep an object in a family for 100 years it gains a soul, and if it's thrown away it becomes a youkai. Probably a reference to that and probably got turnes into Banette
That's sounds pretty cool. Each level up it's trying.
@@eggmug562 The Banette theory holds up pretty well.
Never considered it, but yeah, Youkai Matirial.
@@Xylospring Yokai****

10:50 the fact that a baby doduo could have 3 heads would be fun, bc it would imply that doduo also had 3 heads, but one is hidden in the fluff and still tiny
That pre-evo Meowth is absolutely adorable, I would pay actual money for it to be a real Pokemon
Me too. That was my favorite one by far
I was hoping someone noticed
Nyanya and Kotora ♥️🐱.
The doduo one is pretty cut to
Pretty fiting since payday
2:15 Plot Twist: This ant Pokémon exists, but it is just so small that no one has discovered it yet.
Wow thos makes cence
Maybe that concept got turned into the idea of durant
@@PinkaliciousInWonderland Durant and Joltik cover every part of that concept, so what probably happened was they didn't want 2 really small pokemon and just made durant bigger.

It seems like half of these "cut" mons were reconsidered in newer generations. I see A LOT of similarities with these mons and the Gen 6-8 mons.
The fire seal looks like a great middle stage for a starter
"This might be a hummingbird"
*is literally a fish with legs and wings*
And also doesn't look like a hummingbird IN THE SLIGHTEST
So...a flying fish

"hummingbird" pokemon is a flying fish....
Thank you, I was about to say that. ^^;
Glad I was not the only one to see that.
I just commented the same thing then scrolled down a little more at the comments xD
THANK YOU
Right!!! I love it! Totally would’ve ranked that little friend higher
I actually like the cut blastoise more than the one we got, which was supposed to have a different pre evo. It never made sense to me that it just suddenly had cannons out of nowhere.
Blastoise was originally a 3rd form... of a completely different Evo line. Apparently they decided that 2 lines of water turtles was too many though.
That cut middle evolution for Natu -> Xatu would be rad to revamp into a split evo with a focus on like dancing meditations and physical moves rather than aloof psychic bird that stares at the sun to meditate
I will never stop being annoyed about Mega Flygon
same
Lol
If we never get a mega flygon. We HAVE to get a giantamax form for flygon

That made me so incredibly sad. I'm like, "NOOOOOO DAMN YOU ARTIST'S BLOCK"

Imagine a ROM Hack that has a Pokedex either entirely or at least mostly comprised of these 110 Pokemon.
@Shadow Bringer I also was going to say that

Pokemon Gold 97 makes an entire game out of the spaceworld 97 demo pokemon.
@@mewion6774 Ooh thx I'll look into that
Time to do something potentially illegal
17:45 The voodoo doll evo seems to be a fusion of a panda and a jiangshi (Chinese zombie)
19:30 snake pokemon based off a yokai known as a tsuchinoko. Later replaced with dunsparce.
19:44 looks to be based on Japanese cherry blossoms. Probably reused with the cherrim line in gen 4.
20:39 Probably a fusion of the Loch Ness monster and a viking warship.
21:33 definitely based on a yurei (lit. faded soul). The hitaikakushi (lit. forehead cover) is a huge give away, and those two "water droplets" are hitodama (lit. human soul) often seen depicted with Japanese ghosts. Japanese version of the will-o-wisps and are balls of fire seen at night. Probably would have been a ghost-fire type.
25:15 looks like it may have had a connection to the chinchou line at one point, given the lightning bolt design on its head. Or quilfish may have evolved into a water-electric type but was scrapped for the chinchou line.
26:11 probably reworked into tyrannitar. The green, dinosaur look definitely has similar designs.
28:01 may have had a connection to the legendary dogs trio. Likely scrapped when Ho-oh was attached to them. Perhaps it could have been a foil to arcanine? A blue lion, possibly ice type, to go against the fiery dog pokemon?
28:18 possibly a precursor to the mareep line. It looks a bit like flaafy or ampharos.
29:48 possibly reworked into the tirtuga line. Looks like a fossil pokemon. Would've been a cool fossil pokemon for gen 2. Come on game freak, why not?
30:34 probably reworked into chatot.
I love how he said that the omegamon pokemon was recycled into duraladon and has a fight against tyranitar when that completely wrong and duraldon has nothing to do with Tyranitar because the mecha Godzilla is not duraladon its Agrron
26:11 looks more like nidoking
32:40 this pokemon is in PKMN Snap technically, 1st level, playing next to eevee
wink wink but fr looks alot like it actually 100% does
Would have been so cool to get a Pokémon based on a Viking Longboat. I imagine like a six finned Dragon Water type. Shame it never came to be…
The "beta castform" isn't a castform at all. It's some sort of ghost. Look up ghosts in anime, and you'll see at least a few wearing that triangle headpiece. Those "droplets" are probably little flames similar to the ones in the animation for the move Hex.
Did someone note that in the minute 19.45 of this video in the beta of gold and silver the pokemon Cherrim was actualy planet for gen 2 wooooou and this youtuber didnt realice this fact when he was make the video wooooouuu
So possibly a scrapped Will-O-Wisp Pokémon? 🤔
@@amandamakin1542 Possibly.
*THANK YOU* it's so obviously a japanese ghost,i'm not even sure how he could possibly think it was anything else. like,it's got the headband and everything.

Excellent video! Love the dedication to this big subject
I still feel they could of added Gorochu form as a mega evolution for pikachu or battle bond ability for those who don’t want to evolve their pikachu’s. Think that would been a nice mechanic
21:42 it’s probably not a beta castform it looks more like a ghost and those raindrops are actually fire. And the triangle is the white bandana headband most ghosts in Japan wear
@Aggelos Anastasoulakis no, castform isn't based off of a ghost. It is based off of a teru bozu, a weather charm.
it's wisp from animal crossing.
Slime princess
The Raccoon pokemon is worriedly scurrying around, carrying a log pack on its back, which is on fire. Super Mario Sunshine has a similar thing, some piantas run back and forth carry packs with mushrooms on their backs which are on fire, and you have to put them out.
The cursed doll is meant to be the physical embodiment of the move Curse, it tries to evolve into the panda at EVERY level, and you have to use the B-button method to stop it, as i you're pushing its pin back in yourself.
The panda itself is based on the jiangshi, a vampire/zombie monster that hops towards you with its arms stretched out.
Its really interesting watching this back because I think there were a few pokemon on this list that got reworked into Scarlet and Violet. Like the one on 24:01 looks like it could be Tatsugiri or even Honoguma looks like a Pawmi to me
I kinda want the "Snative" to not be a beta Tatsugiri.
I thought I recognize that Pokémon at 11:39 . I believe that's the new one in Scarlett/Violet
I think the megaphone bird is a pun on the "hornbill," since it literally has a horn for a bill.
It may also be turned into chatot
Or Trumbeak
It looks similar to a cheerleader, probably was meant to be a support pkmn.
...
HORN BILL-
Evolution of Ditto: able to breed even with Legendary Pokemon (let's be honest, that would be the best reason for it to get an evolution.)
Me:catches sogaleo
Puts ditto evo and solgaleo in daycare
Me:gets 1000 Cosmog 5 shiny

but its evolution item is only from a distribution/event
I can imagine it. I’ll put info for what I think it could be. Type:normal. Ability:limber, (hidden ability impostor.) Stats: 70 HP, 70 ATK, 70 DEF, 70 SP.A, 70 SP.D, And 70 Spe
Or it would allow breeding for EV and IVs
21:52 Obviously a ghost. Has will-o’-the-wisps floating next to it and that stereotypical triangle thing Japanese ghosts wear on their head.
Pre evolved tangela was probably the best one who should’ve not been cut. Very good art work.
Also, Tangela was one of the relatively strong non-evolving pokemon.
15:58 The Beta Bayleef looks completely out of place when it's oftenly seen together with the final designs of Chikorita and Meganium like this, however when we go further back in time and take into consideration the fact that beta Chikorita which *(simply named 'Happa' literally meaning 'leaf'🍃)* itself looked like a limbless blob of a slug🐌, this version of Bayleef makes a whole lot more sense
actually no, that was a mistake by the people who played the demo and thought that the limbs were just like a slug, but chikorita never looked like that.
A lot of early Pokemon don’t have much of a “Pokemon look to them” because they had more wild animal and monster looks to them, kinda explains why some of the sprits just look like animals
as much as i love the Totodile line (it’s my second favorite starter line), the water starter at 25:33 is unbelievably cool
Thanks for the video! Raichu is my favourite pokemon, so it's no surprise that it's scrapped evo is my favourite!
Honestly it will probably never happen but game freak could make a entire game with scrapped Pokémon and it would be cool to see some of these revived
19:45 that looks exactly like Cherubim's alternate form (the form in the sun), I wonder if they came back to that design when making it or if it was a coincidence
Its called cherrim
I covered many of these pokemons here but i skipped a few that i could have done because it would have taken so much time. Anyways enjoy
7:59 its an elephant
17:44 the evo is a jiangshi, a japanese spirit Who wears blue with a similiar hat that has the Yellow "ticket" with writings on it covering part of its face, and they move by jumping with their legs attached (Like this pokemon's legs)
And obviously a panda (with vampire teeth?)
18:39 his name is tangtrip and was supposed to evolve into tangela obviously and then still in gen 2, tangrowth which instead of only being able to see its eyes you could only see its smile
19:35 its probably a tsukinoko, a fat poisonus snake yokai (which is the inspiration for dunsparce so maybe he was a beta dunsparce)
19:47 it looks Like a beta cherrim
21:04 yes yes. They are the coolest pokemons Who NEED to be revived
And they are based on werewolf probably. They were scrapped
26:22 Godzilla 27:22 mega godzilla
They were cut because of them Just being godzillas
28:19 its probably that dinosaurs that ram eachothers head into the other to fight (i dont remember its name) that and eggs, so thats why it has a giant cracked egg on its head, because it fought. It also has many others, one on his tail, two on his shoulders and many salmon eggs under the head egg Like a crown
29:32 or maybe those are wings
29:50 is he armored?
the hippo thing at 7:36 looks like Tepig, and the one at 8:06 took me a sec, but it's a sweet elephant facing to the left. You can follow the tusks and then the rest sort of pops out at you. 30:03 kinda looks like a pre-evolution of the viking ship - super cool either way
Sweet video dude, rock on!
I like the Paras pre-evolution, because it's growing out of a mushroom, almost kind of like the bug and the mushroom have a cyclical relationship in their life cycle, like two parasites growing/feeding off each other.
I love those little round Tigers, they're spherical.... SPHERICAL!
The Dunsparse looking pokemon looks like a tsuchinoko (a fat snake cryptid from Japan), which is what Dunsparse is based on. So maybe it's a beta design of Dunsparse.
Ditto's evolution will never stop making me laugh.
Acually even more important I think it relates to what is told in legend arceus. They originally dint fuse with the mushroom and the pre evolution indeed hasn't
7:58 looks like an elephant to me
Thank you! Thought i was the only one.
Yeah, took me a bit to see it, I was going to make comment too.
probably an early version of donphan considering it’s from GS
Beta donphan?
Yes it was CLEARLY obvious to me
Love your content!
I would totally LOVE a video where you (or someone) compose a thing like "what would a new Pokémon generation made from all dropped Pokémon look like". Using Pokémon designs made by some friends, like you do in other fakemon videos. Starting with the starters, making a new split evolution for Chicorita, a split one for Pikachu (to add Gorochu, but not making it a 4-stage evolution). That kind of movie would be a bomb!
6:38 is a visual pun on 'flying fish'. Look at it's face and tail.
The one on the right at 17:53 looks to be based on the Chinese vampire or _jiangshi._
19:37 Tsuchinoko. Yes, it became dunsparce.
21:04 could be based on berserkers from history
21:38 is a cartoony Japanese ghost. The headpiece is a dead giveaway (no pun intended).
23:43 That's a goddam digimon!
How do you know this?

@@msfoxie3510 And things like Voltorb are just a Poke Ball but angry, lol
I'd really like to see that final evolution of Wartortle as aa regional variant. Maybe its a version that adapted to rivers or oceans
17:49 That panda looking doll comes from Chinese mythology, not Japanese.
That's a Chinese vampire that only moves around by hopping around (hence the pose), it also has a spell tag on its body (sometimes face, sometimes chest) which is what binds that creature to its curse. It can not remove it on its own.
I think it can only find you by your breathing and the amount of noise you make but I'm not 100% sure of that one. A character heavily inspired on this is Hsien-ko from Darkstalkers/Marver VS Capcom.
6:19 perhaps the scorpion later became Scorupi and Drapion?
The head kind of looks like eternutas
Raichus evolution looks like it could of been electric/fire. Which may support the theory that Ash would’ve become a fire type gym leader originally
ash might be dragon type they love ash also ash is frontier brain and there is an ash tree and gorochu looks electric/dark/fire type
Maybe but there was no dark type in gen one and ash never became a frontier brain. He was offered the role but turned it down
Wth he'll is up with all this ash headcannon
Oh shut up theories aren’t fact
Ideas for your fanfic?
They should bring some of these back to future releases, some of them are pretty cool. I didn't see it mentioned in here but Donphan was originally meant to be in the first game, he got cut but made it in the second generation, mostly unchanged. Would be nice to see other ones get this chance
1:56
Damn, I would’ve loved to see all of those
Especially the pre litwick evo and the third member of the lilligant line, I really like both of those Pokémon
The Nessie Viking ship hybrid would be a perfect mythical for The Crown Tundra update to Sword and Shield.
Hoops: It's one of my favourite subjects to talk in the channel
Everyone: Really? We didn't notice
Did someone note that in the minute 19.45 of this video in the beta of gold and silver the pokemon Cherrim was actualy planet for gen 2 wooooou and this youtuber didnt realice this fact when he was make the video wooooouuu
I remember back when Gold and Silver was announced, there was a flier that included three unknown Pokémon. The beta didn't include any of the three. Masuda said while making it, he didn't intend ANY of them to be "real", and it was a fun "what if" of Pokémon from a different universe as far as he was concerned. Two of them were reworked into Hitmontop (its earliest concept art was more similar, but by the beta was reworked to be less Clefairy-like) and Tyrannitar (which was only minimally reworked, mainly to make its spikes bigger). The third one, a turtle creature, would eventually be used as the basis for Tirtouga in Gen 6.
I find it kind of amazing how often unused designs end up being revisited. A lot of the cut content in the Gen 2 beta ended up being used later, and it makes me hope we end up getting that weird Ditto evolution.
EDIT: That "might be a hummingbird" Pokémon is actually based on a flying fish. I love it so much. And the stork-inspired Pokémon finally got reused as Bombirdier in Scarlet and Violet!
EDIT AGAIN: I am pretty sure the one at 29:40 was reused... as Elfilin in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Jokes aside, it might be an early version of Emolga.
The hummingbird before the yeti is definitely a play on a flying fish. Recognized the idea immediately as I made a Fakemon in my younger days that evolved from flying fish to sea bird, so the concept stuck out to me.
14:47 that crocs seen some sh***.
Lol😂
So, his favorite pokemon is the Firefox logo...
It looks like a fox mixed with a paint brush.
It actually looks like a fox spirit so it could make a cool ghost Pokémon
11:42 huh I completely forgot the beta stork was a thing. But I guess now we know for how long the idea for Bombirdier was around, although they ended up putting a twist on the baby carrying thing with it of course. Them bringing the stork makes gives me hope that Rinrin or Gorochu still have a chance to happen one day
The bird pokemon in 20:20 seems like a scarecrow+bird hybird which seems pretty fun since it could actually be refined into a crow pokemon which makes it a scarecrow-crow
6:36: your not paying attention to the tailfin that is where the tail feathers are supposed to be, otherwise you'd realise that it's supposed to be a flying fish pokemon.
I thought the same thing. Knew someone beat me to it down here lol
Yeah it’s actually pretty awesome looking, kinda got robbed
I mean he couldn't even tell the elephant one either. :V
Hoops quote of the day: "IT'S A PUPPY!" 🤣🤣🤣😊
At 8:00, that’s totally Great Tusk in Scarlet/Violet. The next Magneton could’ve been a Sandy Shocks, with its legs and all.
7:06 I think you did this one so dirty. Probably one of my favorite gold/silver leak mons, he's so cute and I like Pokémon better when their designs are simple. Almost gives me Tamagotchi vibes :)
I actually created my own pre evolution for Doduo. It only has one head and i tried to come up with an explanation as to why Doduo has two heads by saying that its pre evolution is very lonely.
It's like that one Cerberus manga
It only had one head originality
But it gained it 3 heads after some things happened
Anyway the 2nd head is the tough one cuz the original need to be tough and mean but she's a coward and shy and introverted
The 3rd one didn't get enough thinking into it
Just that she need to be so overpowered
So she can escape her owner

24:17 possibly that baby pokemon is a pre-evolution to that Viking ship pokemon. look at the stripes.
I was thinking the same
What? Viking Ship Pokémon?
ME TOO!!!!!😃
Just based on their appearances, I think 28:17 was meant to evolve into 29:47, but they just hadn't coded that in, yet. The first one probably became inspiration for Cranidos, later.
11:53 Cinderace's balls (of fire), Popplio's handling of round bojects, and Seel!
I’m pretty sure that the rain drops @ 21:43 are actually will-o-the-wisps.
they're referred to onibi in japan and are different than will-o-the-whisps
@@ulvene5763 I kinda think that pokemon was a pre-evo of Misdreavus.

They absolutely need to make the baby Meowth a thing. That and the fire seal, jiangshi panda, stork/baby combo and lady Farfetch'd evolution. Oh, and the poor Kotora line that got rejected twice. Honestly, a lot of these need to happen, but especially those.
Konya also possibly cut twice. And it was better than Pichu imo.
Pretty sure that "weird snake" was what eventually turned into Dunsparce, because that is 100% a tsuchinoko. Probably the design got dinged for being too much like the real-world interpretations of the tsuchinoko (which is what Dunsparce is based off of), so they probably went through a re-design and came up with a more Pokemon-like interpretation.
"hummingbird" it clearly a fish bird hybrid. Also "I don't know where it's face is" seems clear to me it's an elephant.
I can clearly see it's an Elephant but I get what he means, the face is kinda confusing.
7:07 that might actually be an evolution to lanturn. They look extremely similar.
I think that hippo looking 'Mon is supposed to resemble a tapir or maybe a Tasmanian tiger. Taspark. A normal/electric type. This has been a super fun video, thank you.
17:52 The little dude on the right is based on a jiang-shi, which is a Chinese vampire known to hold its arms out that way and hop! (The same source of inspiration as Hsien-ko from Darkstalkers, who's been a big favorite of mine since I was a little kid.)
@19:42 This snake pokemon looks like it's based on a Tsuchinoko! It's also sometimes theorized as one of the inspirations for Dunsparce as well. That's probably why they seem similar, and maybe why it got cut, since 2 Tsuchinoko Pokemon might have been redundant.
I think 2 would be cool but that’s just me

I love the cactus guy and the Harry hippo thing!

19:35 My guess would be that the inspiration for this pokemon is the mythical creature named 'tsuchinoko'. Look it up, it's looking basically the same!
20:39 I feel like this pokemon might have been an evolution of Lapras. It looks like a viking boat so it would be similar to how Lapras carries people on it's back. Plus it's body shape is also very similar.
7:44 looks like Drowzee and Slowpoke fusion with a mowhawk
Yea lol that thing looks hideous, something akin to bad fan-art.
Thankfully, Gamefreak have a Trained-eye.
I thought it was a razorback
@@sapphiresupernova my thought process was more along the lines of a warthog with a mohawk... I called it "Mohog" in my head.
But I also thought it kind of resembled Tepig, since its back half is shaded in and Tepig's rear end is black.
When I saw the raccoon Pokémon I was like “Hmmmmm that looks like a baby Tom Nook”
Oh no
Oh no it's here for our money
Timmy and tommy nook are coming for you
It's not nook, it's Timmy or Tommy
Its timmmys pt tommmys son or daughter idk
26:20 reminds me of the doll pokémon leave behind when using substitute, but with the eyes of larvitar.
You say you can’t tell what the one at 8:15 is but I can definitely say it’s an elephant with tusks, trunk, big ears, etc. The one at 25:53 is just a ghost with little wisps and the triangle on its head is reminiscent of the white triangle head garment worn by ghosts in Japanese folklore.
Do you remember the Bunny with a big head that was supposed to be in Gen 6? Isn't that supposed to be Calyrex?
Sigh,, Calyrex is so bad though lol.
I’ve seen some of these, but several I have never seen. Thanks for sharing these! I love knowing what could have been. Cool designs!
21:46 That's just a ghost with hito-dama floating around. Hito-dama being souls of the dead
8:15 That cut Magneton evolution looks like Sandy Shocks! Cool!
The ghost type pandas with the first stage looking like a voodoo doll, the second stage if I'm not mistaken is based on a jangshi ( might have spelt that wrong) a Japanese zombie that would normally have the sealing tag attached to it's forehead that would allow the master who placed the tag to give it commands. So the first stage would most likely be small while the evolution would be much larger. Also rather than run or walk the hop around with arms out stretched which the evolution looks ready to do.
@Naukumaija Mau-mau Yes. Yes they are.
16:30. That could be the prototype for Fennekin in Kalos. The ears are similar. Compare them side-by-side and you will see what I saw.
The tail looks like a flame, too, so it could be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
either Fennekin or Zorua. the latter being my first thought.
That eel thing from the gold and silver beta looks to me like either an original evolution of Chinchou or an evolved form of Lanturn. The coloring and antenna on its head for very well with that line. Just a thought. Could have become Huntail, but I think it fits Chinchou better imho
What this list turned out to be made way more sense than what I originally thought it would be. A ranking of all of the Pokémon that learned cut.
That kiwi bird looks like it's also a kiwi fruit lol
Also that "hummingbird" is actually a fish-bird. Or a bird-fish. It's...a bird and a fish at the same time o.o
The one before the Magneton-line one looks like a fat elephant...lol
The voodoo doll's evolution seems to be inspired by the Chinese zombies "jiangshi", which is reinforced by it being a panda
The one after the chubby snake looks like a cherry blossom, actually, so might have become Cherrim?
Aw man, that viking boat one looks epic!!
Oh gosh, and the "wolf in sheep's clothing" yeti line too!!!
The "beta Castform" has that triangle hat thing which is used in Japanese culture to represent ghosts, so it's kind of...just a ghost lol
Tsuchinoko is what the chuppy snake is.
So, beta Dunsparce? XD
I think the “beta castform” is a Teru teru bozu (idk if I spelled it correctly or used the right word), a charm that supposedly prevents rain.
So the ghost you said looked like
Castform wasn’t water drops. Most Japanese anime and ghost depictions (even animal crossing) most ghost are seen having two blue flames next to it
4:30 if your wondering Pontya's was called Charcolt i forgot goldeen's and paras's Zubat's was called Bittybat and Vulpix's was called Trixy
The one at 8:00 looks like its meant to be a type of elephant pokemon? I believe its eye is around the upper middle, right above one of its tusks. I think its mostly hampered by the 8-bit style making it look more cluttered and hard to distinguish
