That clear shell makes it easy to see which color palette your using! :) but would have been awesome with on screen display of which palette it just switched to for like 1-2 seconds... but surely that would probably involve alot of wizardry to get working so this is the next best thing I guess.
Goodness, no less than four incredible mods in one video. Too much for my shakey hands to attempt, but you made it all work Scruffy, you brilliant mad man. And FCEuX color pallette was my favorite. Can't believe how awesome the clear shell looks. It's almost a visionary touch, retooling the classic into a glossy evolution. Great work. And the stuff that happened at 3:50, well no one's perfect. Brittle plastics were never intended for that kind of modification or tampering with the dark side. You warned us.
Ha ha thank you Sam! That is awfully kind of you to say sir. Nice choice of color pallet i might add.👍🏼 yes the dark side is not to be trifled with. Many Bothan spies died to bring us this information 😢 😉
Great video Scruffy! And great to see how the end product turned out to be. We are back in our home country again. Thanks for meeting us, showing us around and the great chat we had. We all appreciate you as a person and the time you took for us.
Thanks Mark for your kind super thanks it is much appreciated 🙏 It was great to meet up in person! I hope you enjoyed your time here in Japan. I appreciated the company and your continued support.
Love that intro! :D Awesome results! Really gives the console the 2023 upgrade it deserves! Those clear shells are really something else. Looks so classy! I will probably get one too in the future. Just gotta find a scruffy console first :D And I also refuse to play anything that's not RGB heh.
Thank you! Glad you got a kick out of it. Im addicted to famicom, rgb, and clear shells😉 Well there is no end to scruffylookin famicoms just gotta grab the clear consoles before they sell out. Heck yeah RGB all the way baby! RGB and a nice PVM is retro gaming Luxury 🎮📺️❤️💚💙💎👑
@@ScruffyLookinRGB I already have a famicom, av modded, serves me well. But wouldn't even dare tackling all of this because of my at best "modest" soldering skills. :D
@@ScruffyLookinRGB I'm not at that level of soldering yet. I attempted to recap my TurboExpress once and it was a disaster and had to send it to a friend. I did recently re-solder the buttons back onto my car's remote because they became loose after almost 15 years. :D
I may try to recap my PC Engine Super CD-Rom attachment soon, though it'll definitely take me out of my comfort zone. I've already picked up the cap kit, but it's a bigger job than I was expecting and I don't want to mess it up, haha.
Wow scruffy wow- that is awesome! Subbed- Just found your channel- 2.5k views??!! Can’t believe that considering the high value content- I’m trying to do the same to a famicon just down the tracks in chiba. All the best!
Thanks glad you were able to enjoy this video. Its by far my favorite mod thus far. Well neighbor you should try to get one of these clear shells if you can they are really beautifully made and sturdy as can be. Happy modding. Thanks again for the support.
Yeah will try- took the paint off the red logo with the acid I used to try to clean it! What was the name of the hydrogen peroxide you use (maybe in your other vid)- I can have a look in matsukiyo for it- cheers man!
I would love to see cable mods for those clear shells. Exchange those horrible electric cable with custom color ones, braid them in a cool way (intertwine). Custom length controller cable with nice braided sleeves. Nobody does it on famicom as far as i know. I am sure it would look amazing.
I think Bakutendo sell an adapter for NesRGB that allow you to to retain the cart ejection mechanism. Personally you have done a great job on your famicom
Yes they do actually. I might do a video installing the bakutendo adapter board you spoke of but it needs a ton of wires. Thanks for the kind words. Will you attempt this mod?
@@ScruffyLookinRGB i am still stuck at desoldering PPU....i dont know how you did it so nicely... but I killed off like 4 famicom already... even with soldering pump, it's the hardest thing ever to attempt on my end without rubbing off the solder pad or the pin got stuck and broke off the ppu, etc... it's just hard
Thanks for the kind tip. Actually, the slider was thoroughly cleaned. i think i need to use a shielded cable in this case. Because the wire runs the entire length of the console.
Great video! I recently required a RGB modded new Famicom. Live in japan and my Japanese TV does not have a scart input (seems rare). So my question is what is my best and cheapest option to optimally use this. Current TV has composite, s-video, and a D2 terminal input. Should i.... -Search for a TV with AVmulti input? -Get a Famicom to composite cable and then composite to d-terminal adapter plug? (but If the TV is internally deinterlacing/upscaling to 480p (the fact that it has a port that takes 480p strongly suggests this) then the quality and responsiveness would suffer?) -Get some sort of scaler that takes scart to D terminal out? I'm a little lost and would love to go from s-video to RGB. Any ideas and recommendation for parts if needed (the cheapest best 😅) of course i'd love a PVM but there getting up there in price and the famicom alone cost quite a penny. These japanese tv's confuse me.
In my case, I bought a small Sony pvm back when they were a bit cheaper. It had ypbpr and rgb. Then I picked up a HD retrovision snes cable and hooked my modded av famicom to the pvm. It might be a good investment to get a scaler like a retro tink 5x that way you have more options to play on modern tvs. There are cheaper options out there now but I have no experience with other scalers. I hope that helps.
Thank you! I like bringing junk back to life. I plan on doing some more Famicom mods in the future so if i do end up selling this one i will announce it here and on instagram.
Thanks Scruffy, that was an amazing mod video. I'm pretty decent when it comes to soldering but when it comes to the micro and nano sized components, yeah no lol. Curious, are there places that sell units that are all complete, modded and everything?
Thank you for the kind words. I know what you mean. It takes some practice soldiering such small components. You can find rgb modded famicoms on yahoo auction if you keep a lookout 👀
@@ScruffyLookinRGB I'm over there in August. I was going to buy a composite modded famicom. If I can buy a fully modded rgb famicom that would be better.

If you are referring to connecting the power board the wires provided in the the kit were much too thick to in the vias. Thats how it was installed in the instructions. Its a tight fit for such thick cables. Maybe next time I'll use my own wire.
Yes that is a shame its the only one i own at the moment. And the place i buy from is constantly out of stock. I saw it one day and the next day they were gone
