Fully Functional Flying Sub From Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - RC Submarine

  • A little Sci-Fi for you fans of the 60's series. This is the Flying Sub that was berthed in the hold of the Seaview. Propulsion is via a pair of simple bilge pumps, and we threw in some high-powered LED lighting, just for good measure!
    Oh, and just a note for you smart-aleks with your (utterly repetitive and exceptionally ignorant) comments about it not being fully functional if it doesn't fly.. You're so witty! You should get your own comedy special. Actually no... you're not. You're irritating.

    Marvellous. What a wonderful nostalgia kick. I was 12 years old when Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea appeared on TV in 1964. I may be showing my age at 70 but the little flying sub still looks futuristic. I'd love to see how the onboard camera performed - especially the encounter with the fearsome, giant sea dog and the escape into the deep. Great model.

      I was the same age as you then and I had many of the same joys of watching until the storylines got too sci=fi. I remember the sea weed monsters. Richard Basehart and David Hedison. That and Time Tunnel.

    Always thought the Seaview was the best looking sub ever. And always remember hoping each episode of Voyage To The Bottom of The Sea would have the flying sub in it. You can't get much cooler than both subs. The fact that the scaled model you have works so well is a credit to the designers. Of course, not forgetting Stingray. Yet another really cool sub.

    Fantastic! I can only hope you're presently working on the full-size, operational model, that can also fly at jet speeds, and of course, comfortable seats for a pilot and co-pilot. 🙂 The Flying Sub, aka FS1, was such a cool design. It still looks cool today. The design reminds me of those amazing sci-fi covers on the Tom Swift books.

    Awesome! Now all you need to do is build a 1/32 scale Seaview and an electrical magnetic docking system and sally fort! Oh and make the Flying Sub Fly! Just kidding on the last part but on the first part, oh wow would that be great! This was truly great! Thank you!

    Really a great sight to see the flying sub actually perform in the water.
    It's really interesting that the design does work,but the filming miniatures had to be able to function in the water even if they were controlled/propelled by a Lydecker wire control rig.Thanks for a nice build and tribute to a fondly remembered series😀👍👍

    That flying sub is remarkable.very cool.guess what?I love that show.i used to watch it everyday.i had the DVD's.i just recently constructed a two foot wide identical, painted yellow of course, cardboard model that actually flys like a glider when you toss it in the air.then I added a very small motorized propeller with a tiny radio control system and I attached with Velcro strips two long skinny empty water bottles as pontoons to support it on the water and it can switch to water use,a surface vehicle.it works both ways.i got inspired by your model.

    I’ve been waiting for this build for a long time ! Thanks for sharing 👍🏼. I couldn’t quite see where the intake water was coming from that gets flushed through the bilge pumps. Do they just suck the water from inside the cavity of the submarine ? (Is the front window removed to flood the internal cavity of the sub ?) Is it this the Mobius version of the FS-1 or one of your own design ? (And yes, I must be “long of the tooth” to remember this show fondly (The 70’s re-runs mind you ! 😂)

    • @RCSubGuy
      @RCSubGuy  2 роки тому +6

      The intake is via the forward grill sections, which were removed and are completely open. The pumps technically pull water from the interior of the hull, but water enters the hull via these intakes in the front of the boat. As I mentioned, this is the Moebius plastic model kit.

    • @the_omg3242
      @the_omg3242 2 роки тому

      @@RCSubGuy I would think if you wanted the appearance of the front grills in place you could open up the intakes on the top and maybe bottom of the hull and glue a screen behind them to dark them out.
