  • This is a summary of the buildup of a 1/150 scale, 46" long RC model of the modernized version of the Seaview from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
    My apologies for the crazy audio issues. I'll try to have it addressed for the next one!
    Thanks for watching!

    Hi Bob, I am very much a fan of the Seaview, it was one of the reasons I joined the Navy after high school in 1970.
    I went to sub school at Groton Connecticut and later served on the USS SHARK SSN591 SkipJack Class and loved every minute of it. Made IC3 Before getting out in 1974. Looking back I have wished I had stayed in longer.

    Fantastic RC model. The Seaview has always been one of my favorite Irwin Allen stars.

    It's 'Stingview: 2032!'😁 A very nice model with a lot of scope for future modifications.

    That's my all time favorite sub. If I could afford to get an rc sub, that is the sub. I would want to have. I loved watching that as a child.

    Nice!! It's my first time seeing this. I love it's lines... really gives it more of a 21st century vibe. I love it!

    I don't know how at the moment but a wonderful thought/idea of mine (and i'm sure others have to) would be very thought provoking to some how insert some modification which would release bubbles as it begins to surface, when as they say blowing ballast. Just an off the cuff interest, That is a superb effort and surely more ahead. Thanks

    Suggest looking into a water jet system for a submarine application. Seems feasible.

    What a cool redesign !!! I love it !! Bob, did it have the bow viewports originally ?
    It looked like something had been filled in the upper bow.

    • @RCSubGuy
      @RCSubGuy  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, the customer wanted a featureless bow. The windows are, in reality, completely useless in real life. He wanted something more realistic. I tend to concur.

    It will really be so sweet if USN can build a real USSSeaView, to be the first sub with a window-visual nose!

    • @RCSubGuy
      @RCSubGuy  Рік тому +1

      Sweet... perhaps, but very non-functional. Visibility in 99% of ocean water would be limited to only a few meters. It would be a massive weak point in the boat with no functional purpose.

    I always like Seaview too but I can’t help but wonder what it’s submerged performance is like. That nose looks like a big downward diving plane. The drag must be incredible. We know it would be a disaster on the surface (as cigar shaped hulls are anyway) but this looks especially bad. I would love to hear some experimental results.

      This one is a challenge. Ive been trying to get in touch with marine engineers on these questions. Mostly about the size of the Seaview in terms of actual feet. As you know it's spacious in there. Stern fins we're a futuristic fancy attributed to Irwin. I've only found one reference to the bow architecture, and if this is true the unique bow layout was requested by a nervous Fox because of the issue of submarine Hull shape and censors concerns. I found some good leads on line but only one on line engineer actually responded so far. His response to my question of length: a submarine could be of any hoped for length, but US sub yards only extend to 700 feet.

      David Hedison was the actor of Captain. I think he starred in The Enemy Below as well as the Original Fly movie.

      No, that design is the intellectual property of Dennis Deboer, who envisioned it.

  • @johnsaia9739

    Just my 2 cents, it needs windows in the front otherwise it just isn't the Seaview.

    • @theequalizer9154

      It looks like it did have windows, the eight window version of the Seaview. Probably had to be sealed over for water tightness.

      No, this particular build did not allow for reverse operation. It was really an exercise in alternative propulsion.

      Oh, yes. How silly of me. Forgot giant windows in the front of the boat... C'mon dude. The customer wanted a true updated version of this boat, including the omission of the stupidly useless windows in a submarine.
