Great package of two stellar games overall that you should buy with money, but they didn't play the Shadow remix of Tripod Baby by M-flo, so I give it 0/10. Do better, Sega!
Sonic Prime saying Shadow doesn't have friends is probably reaffirming Izuka's stance on the matter. My take on shadow has always been he's very introverted, but also abrasive. He much prefers to be left alone because of his trauma. And that's what makes Rouge and Omega so special in relation to him. Because they actually got through his barrier and got through to him, intentionally or not. Whether he likes it or not, Rouge and Omega are is his friends. Rouge even considers him more than a friend, being a sort of guarded lone wolf herself. As for Shadow's opinion on sonic, I don't think he's ever shown that he's Sonic's friend. Rival, sure. Grudging respect? Maybe. But friend? No. Very much so no. And that's fine. Sonic doesn't need to be friends with everyone. But Shadow being a total loner in life I think hamstrings his potential as a character. At the very least, Team Dark should be a cohesive unit, and he probably should accept Rouge and Omega as friends. Him struggling to accept it can be a fine character direction, but he shouldn't just e completely cutting them out I think.
If there's a character from Sonic that is a perfect example of what makes it special from other platforming franchises,it's Shadow. There is a reason why he's the second most popular character in the franchise, from his tragic backstory, striking personality,or just the amount of aura he has. Shadow seems like the only other Sonic character to sell his own product right now(We don't talk about the Knuckles show.) and it's very likely he might get his own spinoff game series,I think the perfect way to progress Shadow as a character without it feeling like a rehash is having him help someone who faced similar struggles and traumatic events to him. I think it would also be a nice parallel to Sonic who is known to inspire almost everyone he meets.
That's exactly wut they did in 06 & I want MORE of that. Make him a TRUE flat "anti-hero" character who teaches others the things he learned through his actions. Not an intentional lesson but by bein around him & learnin bout him. He'll help u C the "best" direction for urself but he won't pick u up & do some inspirational speech. U have to make that choice urself & u deal wit the consequences of wutever direction u took. Jus like shadow. U made that choice, now u gotta move forward wit it.
Honestly the thing that I appreciate the most is that dark beginnings and shadow generations basically reestablished that shadow at least likes the other members of team dark. The three of them have such a great dynamic and I hope they put that in future stuff
I'm so glad u actually get his character. This is really well put together. I really love that shadow is not someone who works under labels others even the AUDIENCE, define him as. He defies typical conventions. Rouge & Omega R def the ppl he trusts most but even they have times where circumstances pit them against each other like in rivals. Shadow is as maria says in the prologue, someone who's own actions define him & nothin/no-one else. He is simply shadow jus as sonic is simply sonic. It makes him unique as an "anti-hero" not only in his own journey in a vacuum but in respect & especially REFLECTION to sonic. They live as they pls no matter wut & they have a penchant for protectin the planet they stand on itself for their own reasons. They're unwaverin in their paths & will let nobody stop them or tie them down from wut is truly in their hearts. They have their own ways of goin about that tho. I could go on & on but u prob get the point lol. So ye I agree wit the creator of Shadow & his games when he says he DOESN'T have "friends" lol.
I got my pre-ordered Switch copy of SXSG from Microplay, picked it up on release day and have been impressed with it ever since I started playing it! SEGA sure positively nailed-it with that game and Shadow's portion of it is the best portion. It no doubt deserves to get some game awards. I don't think that I've ever been more hyped for a movie than I am for that SA2 inspired Sonic 3 one. I've been planning to have it be the first movie in my life that I will watch in a theater twice instead of once and I'm currently waiting for the arrival of an adult sized officially liscensed Movie Shadow bodysuit costume from Amazon that I plan to wear when I go to watch that upcoming movie! Also I'm soo glad about the confirmation that Paramount made a deal with the Crush 40 rock band to get the rights to "Live and learn" so that that iconic song can legally play in that third movie installment!!!! (It's currently my #1 favorite song) Good that Paramount understands how absolutely vital that one is to the Sonic 3 movie. (most likely due to the major worldwide fan demand for it to NOT be left OUT of that upcoming feature film!)
I wonder what you think about IDW Sonic's character in the comics once you read them. I love these kind of videos that takes a deep dive into Sonic characters, talking about their lore and giving their own thoughts about the character.
I believe Iizuka is spot on when he said Shadow doesn't have any friends. The author's note here being to remind the viewer that not being someone's friend doesn't automatically make them your enemy. The main reason as to why Rouge is so frequent with Shadow is that she's on the "evil" side of things. She's not a villain, but she's not exactly a positive force in the world. Her entire bit is being a rogue kleptomaniac with skills so stellar that the government hires her on contract. Whenever she's not on the clock, she's going about doing her criminal things. Shadow doesn't care about this because he gives no care about the world's workings as a whole, the law is beneath him compared to his personal code of ethics and Maria's promise. As for Rouge, she knows and understands that Shadow isn't one of the goodie-two-shoes like Sonic, Tails, and Amy, so she can settle in his company without fear of legal repercussions, regardless of how he feels about it, and he doesn't mind her being around because he knows that she knows not to get in his way. As for Sonic, Shadow tolerates him as a force of nature, but as one there's no value in putting any trust in something he sees as a dice roll. You mentioned not having read IDW or seen Prime beyond season 1, and in both iterations Shadow shows up right after being on the receiving end of Sonic screwing everything up majorly, giving an initial ire against the blue blur from the get-go and he's ready to just beat Sonic's ass and fix everything himself. He sees Sonic as unreliable, and gets irritated when everyone around him is all "Sonic will fix it, because he always does!" while overlooking the fact that it's his fault that stuff got to the way it was. In Generations, you can (now) see both sides of the story where they have a duel because they're both trapped in this void of history and nostalgia, and they both have their own plans on fixing things and getting out of there, being unwilling to compromise on each other's plan in lieu of their own. I that pretty much sums up the dynamic between the two pretty well.
Before getting to my bigger point, I wanna say something about the interviews. When it comes to lore statements, and I took this approach with Toriyama's interviews too, I tend to wait until they're relevant in canon and see how things are done there. Because between the interview and a canonical piece of media releasing, things can change. In Sonic's case, I wait for the Sonic Team games and their respective animated shorts. I just find it best to not take these on the spot claims too seriously until they're relevant. I understand Iizuka's words carry a lot of weight, given he's both Sonic Team's current leader and the director of the mainline games from 1998 to 2005, playing a big part in Shadow's creation, but he's not really in a serious storytelling mode when being interviewed. Now, regarding the big boy himself, I think the important thing about Shadow's writing is that his best portrayals have nuance to them. Shadow isn't just cool or edgy, he's layered in a way not many characters in this series are. And I think that's something some writers and even SEGA themselves miss. His constant stereotyping due to the perception of Shadow '05 didn't help matters. But things like this just made me appreciate Shadow Generations all the more for what it did with Shadow. It's easily the best he's been since 2006. And something I feel is needed to write Shadow well is taking the character seriously and write him *sincerely.* No self deprecating shlock, no making him a borderline Vegeta parody (hi, Sonic Boom), none of that. He's meant to be taken seriously and just because one game took the edgy badass thing a little far doesn't mean we suddenly gotta make that his whole identity. I just hope that, moving forward, we don't go back to Shadow's portrayal in the Meta Era. It was bad enough that that whole era began with a sense of cynicism and sucking up to the critics (I am never letting go of that damn Project Needlemouse countdown), but the character writing being as watered down as it was was the biggest bummer. I'm just happy we're in a place of relative normalcy again.
Isnt sonic also the type of character to fight for what he believes is right whether he is seen as a hero or not because that is kind of how he was portrayed in sonic and the black knight
I think my favorite portrayal of shadow is sonic x Jp shadows more closed off and mysterious and is the same shadow from the game he has heart and he has some friends. He just didn’t go through those since sonic X got cut short. What’s your favorite portrayal of shadow and what are ur thoughts on shadows portrayal in the prologue and shadow generations itself
What do you think of Sonic X Shadow Generations? Are you excited for Sonic Movie 3?? Let me know!
Peak Sonic AND Peak Shadow. What more could you want?
I think Sonic X Shadow Generations was such an awesome game. & yes, I’m definitely going to see Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Movie when it comes out.😃👍🔥❤️
Love the game and I'm so hype for the movie!

I am ready for the third Sonic film!

Sonic 06 and the comics have incredible direction on this particular front. There are a lot of cool team dark moments from both Archie and IDW

Shadow is like Sonic's version of Mewtwo.
I’m getting Sonic X Shadow generations for my birthday and I can’t wait to experience my childhood again 💙❤️
I just got it yesterday and beat it in the same sitting
