Exactly My 20 year old reminds me of this Everytime I get on him about stuff and you and him are so right! My son says Mom, Im at home, at least I'm not in gangs nor out selling drugs or robbing! I am very Grateful my kids even the 20 yr old stays home still lives with me and has never been in trouble other than putting some lights in his dodge charger police pursuit and someone called the cops lied saying they seen him using them to pass vehicles on the highway when my son was home with me that day! Charges were dropped! My son wanted to pursue a career in bounty hunting and didn't mean no harm since then he has loss interest in that career! Watching this is horrifying my daughter is 13 yrs old! Prayers for the family!
Blame the adult who gave him the gun to run with. He was the scapegoat and it ended terribly.

If he lived in the country side, no one would care that he was out shooting with a friend. The gun fear craze and gun free zone is what caused his death. Also, a poorly trained cop, who ends up being the only thing causing the gun death in the gun free zone.
If the adult had been caught with the gun, he’d have a felony charge on him. Life ruined. The kid being caught with a gun is just a bit of Juvi and wiped record at 18. Tough on crime caused this.
@@jsmith434w I mean, gangs caused this not "tough on crime". He was out there to murder someone as initiation into a gang. That's WHY the cop was there, the cop was reporting to "shots fired". The kid fired that gun then ran from police and took threatening action towards the officer when confronted. THAT is what caused this. Blame the parents and blame the gangs.

Funny how people here are blaming the cop for shooting a person running around with a gun and not blaming the adult who gave the kid the gun or his parents. Why is a 13 year old out on the streets with a gun at 0230 anyway? Really like to know the whole story, not just the one the media spins. Sad situation.
As someone who lives in a state were teens can own guns, some of my friends have them or walk with them/learn to use them. So sometimes it’s not surprising but some parents want to start teaching kids young (like a rough neighborhood and you need to protect yourself)
false role models. in high poverty communities, only drug dealers and gangbangers are role models to shorties growing up. Hard to find guidance in cold cruel world.
The kid didn’t have a bright future. To me it seems this kid was already on his way to a life of crime. Either he would have been shot by a gangster or by police. Bad people have bad things coming to them.

@@bethanygonzalez6005 having a gun and learning gun safety is good. All of my children learned before they were ten and had a shotgun or 22 on their 12th birthday. None of them would be out in the streets at 0230 with gun in hand unless they were working. My son was Army CID. My daughter followed me into State law enforcement division. I've been in it over 40 years. Everyone should know guns and gun safety. It may one day save your life. Still doesn't explain why a 13 year old boy is out with a gangbanger shooting up the streets at 0230 and running from the cops. His sudden movement to toss the gun from his hand got him shot. At some point someone in the household has to be the parent. It's not a lack of adults in the neighborhood it's a lack of those adults choosing to parent their children. No one seems to be able to tell their children, No. I'm really sorry that the youngster is dead. I hope and pray that someone steps up to guide his friends and siblings to and down the right path.

Since NBC seems to not like to post anything in context, I took it upon myself to do my own research. The police were called to the scene in the first place because Him and a 21 year old were firing off rounds in to nearby cars, later proven by security cameras. It cuts to where the police is chasing the kid, where when the kid goes up to the fence, he has a visible firearm in his right hand. This is when he throws it out of view and attempts to raise his hands. The Model of bodycam worn by the police records at 30 frames per second, the amount of frames from him holding the gun to his hands being raised is 15 frames, so about half a second. Assuming the average human reaction time is 250 MS or a quarter second, and that's assuming it wasn't worse under stress. The officer would've had around 1/5 of a second to make the assumption of the boy razing his hands or pointing the gun at him. Sadly the Officer made the wrong choice, firing one round into the boy. Honestly doesn’t matter what explanation people come up with for this kid getting shot because the fact is he’s dead at the age of 13 years old for shooting at inanimate objects and complying.

Very unfortunate event but if you see the slowed down video the kid had the firearm in his hand and tossed it behind the fence as he brought his hands up. As an officer that would be a hard call with literally milliseconds on the line.

@@Headshot844 Honestly, if there was anything in his hands, it's gone now. Dropped, thrown, whatever. My problem is that strobe light flashing didn't help matters, either. Looks like it's disorienting, and the police are supposed to make split second decisions with these things impeding their vision? Why not a regular flashlight or not using the strobe effect on their maglite?
I am in a dimly lit room and I'm looking at a random video of on my computer with low brightness. I'm blinking rapidly to simulate my vision with a strobe effect and trying to see if I can make out what's going on. I can't. Not with great detail. And this is what happened here and it's tragic, because it looks like the kid had his hands up and they're empty but got popped in the chest still.

Because he lives in a Chicago where gang members are just you're regular neighbors down the street. In areas like these it's kind of useless to be asking your question, they could have been doing anything from picking up drugs to robbing a store. He's dead now so I guess he won't be able to tell us what he was up to that night.

There is only one friends house he is allowed to go to and the rest are family. Otherwise he is at the gym hooping or at basketball practice. We need to remember that what we see on the chest camera footage is not exactly the same what the policeman saw. At the close-up you can see the boy holding a gun a second before he raised his hands. He threw the gun away with a smooth movement so that the policeman couldn’t see that he was throwing it away. Sadly, he made it. The policeman must have noticed the gun but not the fact that he dropped it.
Given the adrenaline rush you get in such situations, I’d say a lot of people quick to judge, would shoot in such circumstances. 😔
It’s a sad tragedy. But, the policeman couldn’t have known how old Adam was. What he knew he was chasing a person who had just been involved in a gun shooting. I wouldn’t judge that easily.

That's a lie. No gun at all. It's not there UNLESS the police decided to put one there after they murdered that child. While I understand what you're saying. You don't know if the parents were around or not. Could be working overnight shifts, could have thought he was asleep and snuck out. I dont think all the parents want their kids wondering the streets but if they need to put food on the table so they can't be around to watch and monitor them...id say they're doing the best they could.

Totally agree. Tragic loss but when my boy’s were 13 they were home in bed at 2:30 am. And I question why the boy was running from the police in the first place.
If yous watch the whole video and slow it down you see the kid with a gun in hand behind his back and when he drops his gun he then quickly puts his hands up almost all in one motion leaving the officer to probably assume he still had the gun in his hand...

It must be hard for the cops to make that split second judgement whether to shoot or not, in that video footage you can see it all happens pretty quick. Get it wrong and the cop can pay for it dearly later or though not as much as the gunshot victim. Can't be easy for the officer knowing now he'd shot and killed an unarmed 13 year old, I can't imagine that he'd in any way wanted to do that when he started his shift.
Well a good way to save somebody's life is you don't start out by shooting them
His hands are in the air. A full grown adult would have been treated with the basic dignity of not being murdered while surrendering. There is no sense of ethics or morals in these police officers.
