Something else I found in the owl fight, whenever he does the fake surrender and you ATTACK him rather than just walking up to him, instead of saying “You Fool!” He says “It warms my heart to see how you have grown”
6:19 When I played I noticed that during one of the animations of Sekiro flipping the door, you can see a dark cave tunnel behind it which makes me think that you don't actually teleport but instead it's a secre passageway Sekiro walks through to reach the other side but the game skips it because it wouldn't be a shortcut if you had to walk for 2 minutes in a straight line
People seem to not realize this, I noticed that as well, the one he talks of appearing deep in the mountains is the one I noticed the tunnel behind as well, leading directly through the mountains. For a loretuber his eye isnt too sharp for some details.
Lol right? i got confused with the statement in this video haha for me i just imagined there was a tunel, and then after i saw it was never even a thing haha
Yeah I think the ancient japanese circle he was talking about was more of a cryptic map that only those in the know could read. This would of course connect the hidden passageways to those who could decipher what the text said
There is one in Kuro's room that takes you to the dilapidated temple though. You can go round the castle to see that that would be impossible lol. Though this is the only one that seems to be magical. The other ones I do agree with you
Yeah, I thought that Owl was just chilling back there while Isshin was mopping the floor with Sekiro! I thought that Owl was completely useless at this point.
Considering he left and then returns with the Black Mortal Blade, I had made the assumption he'd killed Genichiro. Good to have that confirmed, though.
"there is no shame in losing battle.. but you must take revenge by any means necessary." Owl was such a great father.. he literally explains how to beat Sekiro: Shadow Dies Twice.
There's a similar moment to the Genichiro flights when you fight Lady Butterfly. Wolf draws his blade after feeling around for a second, but he doesn't fumble with it. The game shows that he's getting his bearings and progressing after making it through the Hirata Estate.
@@Regufyz dont worry isshin slaps everyone. Just one tip i have for first phase is when he sheaths his sword stay near him so he doesnt do the ashina cross thingy. If you go near him he will do a normal attack and then a sweep attack. Got through first phase with ease when i figured this out.
InkLlama I mean, there is still the possibility of a secret elevator leading you down the depths of the castle, after all there is a similar elevator in the dungeon leading up to Senpou. The difference between this shortcut and the magic elevator of Earthen Peak is that it is physically possible that the shortcut exists, particularly since the fade to black implies a longer journey.
Fel a lot of people meme on ds2’s design but I don’t understand why they say stuff like that about earthen peak. There’s a mountain behind the windmill right? Behind the mountain is the giant lava and fire landscape we all see. The elevator we ride is us riding to the top of a large mountain with a sea of lava and a castle on top. The only problem is the tunnel leading to the elevator isn’t long enough. Just imagine it’s a couple miles and the devs shortened it. That’s the only inconsistency there imo.
Fel after looking at pictures from ds2 I can confirm there is a massive ass mountain behind the windmill. The devs didn’t want to make you run for 10 minutes to get there though
5:18 that zigzag shaped paper is actually called SHIDE(紙垂), and it’s widely used in Japanese Shinto rituals. It represents lightning, because lightening is usually accompanied by rain, and rain can bring good harvest
@darklordster yeah I was curious and was looking the other day and noticed that more people than id like didnt get past so much of the game. It made me really disappointed
Man this just reminded me of how much I love this game and From Software in general. That Sekiro fumbling for his sword detail is so cool. Definitely my goty
Has there been a recent fromsoft game that didn’t deserve game of the year? All the dark souls games(except remastered because it’s literally the exact same game with a handful of patches), bloodborne deserves game of the decade if not greatest game of all time, and sekiro was definitely the game of the year the year it came out
there are a few great cutscene parts like that, for instance the nameless king in ds3, his hand slightly trembles before finishing off the king of the storm
@@macalla6898 I enjoyed DS2 but it’s undeniably the laziest game in the franchise (one boss, dragonrider, another boss, 2 dragonriders!) The lore is not the most captivating, the soundtracks are a bit lackluster (though Yuka kitamira killed it with her DS3 soundtracks) and the bosses are incredibly easy. It’s still a good game, but nowhere better than DS1.
I'd like to mention the fact that the centipedes never fade away whenever you sever their host's immortality (which in the guardian ape fight, it did. Hinting he would come back).
7:20 - I think that Sekiro was well aware of Kuro's falling. He must be aware of every movement around him. Let's remember that once he lost his vigilance in exactly the same place and paid for it by losing his hand.
Underrated comment ................ it was a nic reason fr sekiro not watching kuro's fall to the ground ............. i m not in the army but i think during the war ...... killing enemies or completing mission holds more priority than saving or looking after our companion
Rahul Verma if you think killing the enemy is more important than saving your comrades then I’m glad you aren’t in the service. You’re right that the mission should usually come first though. Unless it’s a low stakes situation where the benefit isn’t enough to outweigh the risk of losing soldiers. That isn’t all too common but still happens
@@todditjustworkshoward472 yeah ....if the mission is not holding enough priority ...then saving our comrades is necessary ....but in indian army (i m frm india) ......... men/women dont care abt their lives ......if they get any mission ...they achieve it ...no matter wht comes at stake ......thts why our army's story of sacrifice our vry famous ....n they r always respected in gatherings and govt tries to help them individually ...whenever they can
Rahul Verma I know about India’s history an alright amount. No offense intended. Just saying that taking lives and giving up lives for the sake of it should never be the priority in a war. Soldiers usually aren’t the ones at fault after all(except in the case of most{but not all} nazi’s as well as confederate soldiers) so I don’t think they should be the targets in a war, unless the opponent is threatening you with genocide. Sacrifice can be an amazing thing for humanity but when sacrifice makes no true difference, it’s just a death. Very few people have ever sacrificed themselves and truly changed something about the world. It is a sad but undeniable truth in my eyes
something interesting i think is often missed about the Hidden Forest area, that is a testament to From Soft's attention to detail and world building lore of Sekiro - myself being someone who made the mistake of getting a degree in botany, i couldnt help but notice a rather diminutive asset in the area around the 2nd fatty slob boss...the little blueish white plants scattered about actually exist IRL and their in game design is basically botanically correct...that detail alone might not be worth mentioning, but the plants bizarrely uncommon means for survival and its english common name is...technically called Monotropa uniflora, its known as "ghost plant", and for good reason...unlike most plants its entirely white, from its flower tops thru its roots...this is cuz it does not contain chlorophyll, the stuff that makes plants green, which is generated via sunlight thru photosynthesis...and instead ghost plant is a parasite, its hosts being underground fungus that leeches its energy from tree roots...so ultimately its energy comes from photosynthetic trees. and since it doesn't need direct sunlight to grow, it can grow in very dark environments, like the understory of dense forest, often making it quite hidden and difficult to find - giving its relevance to the game an ominous triple entendre of sorts - in the Hidden Forest, ghost like and parasitic... bonus fact it is related to blueberries and while native to Japan/Asia, its also common in North America, Central and northern South America
@@duanecameronson while i doubt the validity of his comment i gotta say just claiming youre a botanist and theyre lying aint too convincing either lol edit: its a real plant also known as 'indian pipe', for those trying to search 'ghost plant' and getting succulents
Light Myst Step 1: Kill Guardian Ape Step 2: Go to the Ashina Depths and kill the Headless Ape Step 3: Rest at the idol At some point in time you will notice the idol has become unavailable. This means that the Schichimen Warrior has arrived Step 4: Kill the Schichimen Warrior. When you kill him you will get an item called “Malcontent’s Ring” Step 5: Grind until you can upgrade your arm at the sculptor.
14:50 if you time it right you can also intercept them midair with a senpou kick, because nothing is more badass than jumping right into an airborne enemy’s face, delivering a swift wheel kick to their jaw, and then meeting them on the ground with a firm curb stomp
25:45 i don't think that's emma. I think it's the divine child of the rejuvenating waters. Note the long hair with white streaks, as well as if you're going for the Dragon's Return ending, she has trouble seeing you as she begins crying frozen tears. This concept art may have been a depiction of her blinded by the damage caused to her eyes from freezing tears.
4:38 considering that in the purification ending tells more about Tomoe life, I think genichiro black stains are from when he was training to master Lightining of tomoe and those part are area where Genichiro failed and he got burned, thats my theory
just because Isshin was still alive, the Owl would have been completely destroyed if he had to fight Sword Saint Isshin like Sekiro in the normal ending lol
I still can't believe sekiro (depends on how you play/look) is the most dangerous sword wielding foe on a 1v1 and even then. I think that the game's story takes place in 2 days and him going from rust to gold in just such is amazing at a story's view.
I came to the comment section to point that out , but thanks for doing it for me 😁 thought i was the only one . Lol it's actually called seppuku AKA Harakiri. 😁😁
Seeing Genichiro dip out after the first fight with him, I kinda thought the DLC would be us playing as him while he went out searching for the blade and his search for more power.
You probably already know that when wolf kills owl, he says, "Death of a Shadow," and the game is called Shadows Die Twice, but what you might not have noticed is that Owl actually does die twice. You actually kill him twice in the good ending. The same could be said about Genichiro and Ishin. Genichiro dies and is revived by the rejuvenating waters, and Ishin dies of his illness before being revived by his grandson. All three of their boss fights get inner versions as well
That one about the headless being able to be damaged without confetti when you're in the water is the kind of detail I love about FromSoft games, there's so much thought that goes into everything, strange occurrences are almost never just a coincidence.
I dont think its just magic. I think youre right. And the symbols forming a circle seemed like a compass to me. Like a guide for orienting yourself when you enter the shinobi tunnels.
OmegaSanction it’s not outside of Japanese mythology though. There are legends of lightning fast shinobi that teleport using runes. Naruto adopted one of these legends
Just got my platinum! For whatever reason NG+3 Isshin was kicking my ass. Finally beat him after weeks of maybe 2-3 attempts every other day, and then sped through the shura ending in about an hour deathless. As much as I'd love to give the game a solid 9 or 10/10 I can't. I didn't enjoy many of the fights and the difficulty felt somewhat cheap compared to soulsborne. Still though after my deathless shura run I finally appreciated the game and felt satisfaction. 8.5/10.
I don't think this has lore implications, but: Have you ever noticed when fighting emma after staying loyal to Owl, that when you break her posture by goomba-stomping her and doing a deathblow from above, sekiro is 'very gentle' with her and lowers her head to the ground with care? The normal deathblow is famous for being quite merciless, I don't understand why there is this big thematic difference between the two
I would say that it’s literal. He’s going along with his fathers orders but he’s probably feeling a lot of guilt and has a lot of consideration for her. Maybe this is why he went insane cause his abusive father commanded him to kill everything he actually like.
we would need vids just to cover the characters and the themes of the basic story, without digging into lore and worldbuilding. Sad that From Soft seemed to spit on its face during the entire game, since the story is far from bad on its own and doesn't deserve to be despised as it is.
@@blasuqar I've seen people saying it's lazy and needs to be like dark souls which is basically no story, it's like that can't comprehend that's it's a DIFFERENT GAME
I'm not going to lie, that "you've all finished the game right" is exactly the push that made me grind out the platinum trophy for the game. Thanks a ton
I always thought the second phase of the great ape fight looks a lot like it was being puppeted by unseen strings and moving in ways that make very little sense unless you consider some kind of telekinesis, or some force not coming from the muscles of the animal itself. I love this design choice.
To me it always looked like it's being puppeted specifically by the centipede. It moves in in a very undulating, twisting, writhing sort of way. Especially the move where he ends up flopping on the ground and kind of slithering towards the player.
Me (smugly): I beat this Isshin, Owl (Father), and the Demon of Hated. I'll probably know most of the things in this video. *watches video* *Leans 50 new things about Sekiro* Me: "I... am a basket..."
One thing to keep in mind: the Ashina were heretics. They fought dirty. They worshiped alien fish people. And many of them sought immortality. That's part of why the "ministry" eventually came for them. One of the strong recurring themes in ALL soulsborne titles is the idea that immortality is a BAD thing... The fishgods promised immortality-- immortal servitude. The red-robed fish people locked in the highest chambers appear to be cannibalistic zombies when the player finds them. They don't "reign from on high"; they live in one small, dark room with nothing to devour but each other... If you kill the giant carp and then talk to its caretaker, he's grateful to have finally finished his eternal duty. His daughter asked you to break the fish's control over him, earlier. Later, you find he had two daughters. One tries to comfort him (he's dead at this point), you then find the OTHER is in that dark room, killing the last of the red-robed fish people. I think this symbolizes the fact that the fish people WERE monsters that should never have been worshiped. They only offered immortality as a means to get a few free slaves. And in fact those few who DID get "immortality" lost so much in the process that it wasn't worth it (hence the infestation and zombification). The red and black mortal blades appear to be a token to this, in that: Death can sometimes be an act of mercy. Maybe it's just as a means to end the suffering of one who has been forced to be alive for far too long, or maybe it's as a means of taking something that is dead back. These are two sides of the same coin-- two blades, one red and one black. Maybe the fish people weren't always evil-- maybe they weren't always in charge... But in the end, I think the mortal blades were offered as a means of "correcting" immortality.
The fish people are humans who drank the fountainhead water or something from there. There's a Priest in Mibu Village who was human but upon giving him Water of the Temple he became one of those red robed fish people.
Tbh Isshin himself was never obsessed with immortality. He held pride in who he was, but he only fought you when you either went evil or when his grandson literally forcibly binded his own last wish to Isshin's departed soul. That's why he held such contempt for Senpou monks and for Genichiro.
Something I want to point out when you talked about the Great Owl figth and his tricks, he doesn't feign attacks. What happened there is you cancelled his attack by attacking him, which caused him to cancel his attack to block/deflect. This can be seen with other bosses such as Genichiro and plain ol' regular enemies.
If you fight Owl again at Hirata Estate, he does somewhat feign attacks. He will initiate a large overhand swing, but depending on how you move, will actually perform a spinning attack or a running attack. It feels very "got you!"
Owl is also unique in that in he can perform a shinobi deathblow on you. Just like with the Mikiri counter. He taught you, and he can do most of the things you can do.
I always thought behind those "teleport" doors there is a secret path that Sekiro travels to the other location, we just skip ahead to when he arrives.
Master Ofu same I thought it was some kind of tunnel underground that goes from ashina castle to the dilapidated temple and from headless"ako"cave to senpou temple I haven't really notice the magic marks
Played the game once and thought: "Maybe I'll try the other endings at some point in the future." After defeating Isshin I immediately started the second playthrough, then the third, and the fourth. Loved this game.
I got into the game again after finishing all 4 endings. I could have gone for NG+4 but instead started a new save and have gone charmless+demon bell. The ultimate experience
I did it shura first, bad choice btw, then return, the one where sekiro dies, and the one where kuro dies, after that I was aching for a challenge so I gave kuro the charm and activated bell demon
thats what i was thinking, like jus a long tunnel/passageway that sekiro goes thru that we just dont see cuz it'll be a hassle, i mean that makes the most sense.
Okay you posted this nearly a year ago but I'll say it anyway. I think those magic symbols Vaati was talking about aren't actually magic, they are just normal symbols used to communicate with other shinobi that there is a passageway nearby. They are simply faded from time
I just love how much owl shares with wolf, like even owls own basic attacks only goes up to a total of 5 hits, he has prosthetic tools, utilizes poison, death trickery and even stuff like prosthetics Chase and faint attacks as well as attack canceling, he even has something like the nightjar slash and mikuri counter(which hits like a fucking truck) and other trickery like posture restoration and smoke bombs.
@@dragonmaster3030 Yup, he's done seven to me before. Diagonally down, back up, flip the sword and diagonally down again, around the head and horizontal, flip the sword and horizontal the other way, around the head and horizontal, around the head and diagonally upwards. It's extremely rare for him to do all seven since he has a high chance of cancelling the combo at any given move.

Vaati my boi, you forgot to mention there's an additional piece of dialogue from the old lady who tells you about the Serpent's hearts. I don't know when exactly but, after you give them to the Divine Child, that old lady will appear at the Main Hall of the Senpou Temple. She'll point to a direction (just like she always did) and tells us the Divine Child will face a long journey, or something like that. :)
Another neat if small secret is, if you kill the friendly looter in Hirata Estate in the past, he won't show up in the future, but more interestingly, if you just hurt him and run away, he'll initially express hostility towards you when you meet him again... but can't quite recall why.
A sekiro side story manga about Hanbei the undying has been recently released. It also mentioned this dude who ate the flesh of monkeys and stuff. I really think everyone should check it out. It's got some pretty good art and may have some great lore implications.

There is no way the posture system isn't picked up by other devs, it's such a brilliant piece of design that can be expanded to so much more. To me it feels like a core design innovation that could create an entire genre.
the return ending is BEGGING for a sequel. But sadly, sekiro had the most backlash about being "too hard". what did we get next? elden ring with literal easy mode in the form of BUSTED farming spots, spirit summons, and op sorcery builds. I have a feeling that fromsoft is becoming a people pleaser making their games easier
Is there some inside joke on this channel where yall purposefully call it "sudoku" instead of what it's actually called or are yall actually just that fucking stupid.
A lot of the Japanese legends mentioned in sekiro are also the inspiration for a bunch of Pokemon. Like Magikarp's evolution into Gyarados, which is based on the same legend of the dragon's gate
@@paleviolent Houou (鳳凰) and Suzaku (朱雀) are not the same. Houou is one of the four auspicious beasts of China and represents peace and tranquility. Suzaku (lit. "Vermilion Sparrow") however is one of the four gods of the seasons / cardinal directions in Chinese mythology and rules over the southern heavens. Represents fire and summer.
Ho-Oh, or Fenghuang in Chinese, is a different bird with no fire element to it whatsoever. Sometimes people mix it with the Vermilion Bird and the Greek Phoenix together because heck, they're all divine birbs. But they're different beings.
I recently was replaying the game and found out something interesting, in the memory area where you find owl “dying”, if you hit him with a sword it creates a shimmer like that of an illusion
While trying to go through the game fast, I often miss the leaping deathblow on him. Thanks to that, I can tell you that in the first phase he summons tons of illusions like the ones in the forest outside, then he does devastating flurries with his flute which actually doubles as a dagger, and he may also run back and enfeeble you (despite being a red noble), the status bar filling twice as fast as when you're enfeebled by blue nobles. You may interrupt it by hitting him, but the status bar doesn't go down until you deathblow him. His posture is unbreakable so you have to chip down his enormous health. Oh and unless you deathblow from behind, he can actually parry your deathblow and regain half of his health. However, with the first deathblow, he loses all his powers
One thing I noticed that I haven't seen anybody mention is that after you defeat the Divine Dragon, the Nobles at Fountainhead Palace play a different tune on the flute! Love that
4:40 The idea of metal armor being removed because of his usage of lightning is interesting. But he still keeps his metal thigh guards on. So it’s kind of a unlikely idea if he keeps some armor on.
The meteorite theory holds even more creedence when you consider that the lapis lazuli spawned from it (an oddly colored metal out of space). A reference to H.P. Lovecraft's Color out of Space, where a meteorite strikes earth and causes the mutation of local inhabitants (centipedes in Sekiro).
6:01 shinobi doors could also just have long tunnels that the devs didn't want to force you to run down for the sake of it being a shortcut. Not like they're going to try to explain getting physical items from a 3 year old memory, teleporting by praying, etc.
Slyrapture bloodborne rewards aggressiveness... it is about precision in a different way. Think of your pistols as a perfect block in sekiro - also be patient and look up all the moves for whatever weapon you’re using- sometimes they aren’t all obvious.. also be patient and just enjoy that incredible setting and all the dlc - that is my fav Miyazaki story/game and setting..lore is deep and relatable and DARK.. just. So many high notes .. definitely different than sekiro it play-wise tho
Just a little correction: at 5:21 when talking about the divine dragon shrine, those pieces of paper are actually called "shide" and are characteristic for their zig-zag form. Usually they appear with so called "shimenawa", big twisted ropes made of rice straws placed at the doors of Shinto shrines for purification.
I have some information/theory surrounding the Black Mortal Blade (BMB). Isshin has possession of the BMB in the opening cutscene where he defeats General Tamura, if you didn’t know that watch the cutscene but slow it down, it’s there. By the time Owl shows up at Ashina Castle, Genichiro has possession of it (as shown in this video). After showing Isshin the Crimson Mortal Blade and then eavesdropping on Isshin he says "The crimson Mortal Blade...That means the one he has must be...black, then. To abandon oneself in search of strength...How tragic..." This sounds as though Isshin thought that the Black Mortal Blade was at Senpou Temple and is surprised the one we obtain is crimson. So we can gather that Isshin isn’t entirely sure on the BMB’s whereabouts. I’m just confused on how Genichiro got it and where he got it from whether it was Senpou or somewhere else.
On the same topic of Hannya, can we agree on how perfect that description is for Majima from Yakuza. Frightening and terrifying at first, but on closer inspection reveals a deep sorrow.
I’ve always wondered why Sekiro loses the first fight with Genichiro since he wins the other two. I think it’s so sick that subtle detail of the hand stumble to suggest he’s rusty in the beginning after losing his will to live. It makes you appreciate how far he’s come later on when he fights Genichiro again and pulls that shit out smooth as butter. A confident ninja boy!
"There exists a great gorge into which immortals are cast away into the underworld." That reminds me so much of the opening for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. In this story, 6 vampire lieutenants have served under a far older vampire named Kain in a dying empire for over a millennium. Raziel had surpassed his master in power which provoked Kain to wound him terribly. In his wounded state, Raziel is dragged by his brothers Turel and Dumah towards The Lake of the Dead or the abyss as it's later referred as. Kain orders orders his lieutenants to cast Raziel into the depths in which Raziel is then scorched by the waters almost beyond recognition. After countless centuries, Raziel is finally resurrected in the underworld. In his new wraith state, Raziel is undying and can never truly be killed or destroyed, he is now a truly immortal being who spends the rest of the series taking revenge on his brethren and master who executed him as well as unearthing answers of his origin along the way. I know this quote most likely is of no reference to the game, but I just love how similarly it describes the game.
Me: "I beat this game 7 times, got all endings, all items, and collectibles... there is no way i missed anything shown in this video" *Literally the first thing* Me: "I was mistaken".
I'm on my second playthrough of Sekiro and its hands down my favorite game of all time. The mood..the combat...the lore. EVERYTHING. And the. I watch these videos and find even more secrets tuck away and it just makes me appreciated this masterpiece even more.
Just a Random Boi it’s kinda cool to have stuff connected. Obviously we want different games but it’s nice to have some sort of connection as a nod from the creators.
the bird is called suzaku guardian of the south. though chinese japanese adopted it. genbu of the north, byakko of the west, seriyu of the east and suzaku of the south.
I would venture to disagree with you on #9, Vaati. I tend to keep my brightness settings higher than you seem to (I find it easier to deflect by watching the reflected light off the blades), so I could see pretty clearly that the Shinobi Door at the Ashina Outskirts opens onto a tunnel -- it's not hard to imagine that that tunnel leads through the mountains to the Demon Bell at Senpou Temple. (I'd presume the same holds true for the passage from Ashina Castle's keep to the Dilapidated Temple -- hidden passages and escape routes weren't uncommon features in Sengoku-era castles, and the temple's a pretty good evacuation spot in the event of a siege on the castle; sadly, Genichiro continues to beat me bloody, so I haven't been able to confirm that to be the case.)
I'm beginning to believe that Sekiro is actually connected with the soulsborne, (or Darkblood, if you're into that,) notice that the twinblade enemies are carrying curved-twinblades, there's a weapon in DS2 called the Curved Twinblade, it's item description actually reads, "A twinblade imported from a foreign land. The razor-sharp blades cause bleeding, but as a result, are easily worn and dulled. When wielded by a master, this dual-tipped blade is an unparalleled weapon that hardly allows a foe the opportunity to retaliate." You get this weapon from the chancellor at Drangleic castle in NG++, which is something you probably already know by now.
Something I found cool about the Shijimen when I was messing around with stuff, is that if you Puppeteer them, their actual head, the mind-controlled blue eyes, is the head on the shoulder.

Regarding 9. I just assumed there were tunnels leading from one door to the other that you were running through, and it just skips that bit.

That’s the only inconsistency there imo.

something interesting i think is often missed about the Hidden Forest area, that is a testament to From Soft's attention to detail and world building lore of Sekiro - myself being someone who made the mistake of getting a degree in botany, i couldnt help but notice a rather diminutive asset in the area around the 2nd fatty slob boss...the little blueish white plants scattered about actually exist IRL and their in game design is basically botanically correct...that detail alone might not be worth mentioning, but the plants bizarrely uncommon means for survival and its english common name is...technically called Monotropa uniflora, its known as "ghost plant", and for good reason...unlike most plants its entirely white, from its flower tops thru its roots...this is cuz it does not contain chlorophyll, the stuff that makes plants green, which is generated via sunlight thru photosynthesis...and instead ghost plant is a parasite, its hosts being underground fungus that leeches its energy from tree roots...so ultimately its energy comes from photosynthetic trees. and since it doesn't need direct sunlight to grow, it can grow in very dark environments, like the understory of dense forest, often making it quite hidden and difficult to find - giving its relevance to the game an ominous triple entendre of sorts - in the Hidden Forest, ghost like and parasitic... bonus fact it is related to blueberries and while native to Japan/Asia, its also common in North America, Central and northern South America

Himax9 solid
well said
The fish people are humans who drank the fountainhead water or something from there.

What happened there is you cancelled his attack by attacking him, which caused him to cancel his attack to block/deflect. If you fight Owl again at Hirata Estate, he does somewhat feign attacks. He will initiate a large overhand swing, but depending on how you move, will actually perform a spinning attack or a running attack. It feels very "got you!"

But sadly, sekiro had the most backlash about being "too hard". what did we get next? elden ring with literal easy mode in the form of BUSTED farming spots, spirit summons, and op sorcery builds. I have a feeling that fromsoft is becoming a people pleaser making their games easier

*COMMITS SUDOKU*
A 2 in the left column, amirite?
NO! Do not commit to those Japanese box puzzles! You have so much more to live for! Its never too late to change! LOL
Is there some inside joke on this channel where yall purposefully call it "sudoku" instead of what it's actually called or are yall actually just that fucking stupid.
Hextin seppuku
if you commit sudoku i will commit sekiro ok?
So the Vermillion bird is basically Ho-Oh from Pokemon, nice Sekiro Heart Gold confirmed
A lot of the Japanese legends mentioned in sekiro are also the inspiration for a bunch of Pokemon. Like Magikarp's evolution into Gyarados, which is based on the same legend of the dragon's gate
Ho-oh ,Suzaku basically the same thing just different pronunciation. its a shared folk lore.
Sekiro: Father, we need to deal with Genichiro afte...

7:13 I noticed that too. Against Lady Butterfly he does it a bit better, and by the final fight against Genichiro there's no hesitation
of course owl is myazaki's favorite, he's not wearing any shoes
7:10 I've always loved this tiny detail, right from my first play through. It's as if Wolf is nervous
I like the theory that the Divine Dragon is actually a Great One. It's crazy, but i like it.
I recently was replaying the game and found out something interesting, in the memory area where you find owl “dying”, if you hit him with a sword it creates a shimmer like that of an illusion
It does that on all non-killable NPCs
This was AMAZING! Great work on this.
Ayyyy man glad to see you here!
biggest lore question remains: what happens in the mist noble's first phase?
He noblely turns into red mist
@@adude6568 for real?

One thing I noticed that I haven't seen anybody mention is that after you defeat the Divine Dragon, the Nobles at Fountainhead Palace play a different tune on the flute! Love that
I always wondered what owl was doing while I was getting executed repeatedly by a Doctor, and her patient
I mean he comes back with a black blade so it was kinda obvious even without datamining head he places...

4:40 The idea of metal armor being removed because of his usage of lightning is interesting. But he still keeps his metal thigh guards on. So it’s kind of a unlikely idea if he keeps some armor on.
Also okami warriors still use metal armor and do eletric attacks, Isshin Ashina Divine Blade too, just no make sense
answer: it looks cool
The meteorite theory holds even more creedence when you consider that the lapis lazuli spawned from it (an oddly colored metal out of space). A reference to H.P. Lovecraft's Color out of Space, where a meteorite strikes earth and causes the mutation of local inhabitants (centipedes in Sekiro).
Owl: We shall rule this land as father and son!

6:01 shinobi doors could also just have long tunnels that the devs didn't want to force you to run down for the sake of it being a shortcut. Not like they're going to try to explain getting physical items from a 3 year old memory, teleporting by praying, etc.
Yea from what I’ve seen there is a tunnel from some of the doors

@@Slyrapture chalice dungeons?
Slyrapture bloodborne rewards aggressiveness... it is about precision in a different way. Think of your pistols as a perfect block in sekiro - also be patient and look up all the moves for whatever weapon you’re using- sometimes they aren’t all obvious.. also be patient and just enjoy that incredible setting and all the dlc - that is my fav Miyazaki story/game and setting..lore is deep and relatable and DARK.. just. So many high notes .. definitely different than sekiro it play-wise tho
Slyrapture well just stick with it and play. I started with ds3 and then ds 1, 2, bb and Sekiro so i cant explain why lol

"There exists a great gorge into which immortals are cast away into the underworld."
That reminds me so much of the opening for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
I remember the first time I saw the fountain head palace area. It looked so magical I actually cried a little. God damn.
I'm really late to this but oh my God this video is beautiful, you take every second to show some panning shot of scenery. 10 points.

I'm beginning to believe that Sekiro is actually connected with the soulsborne, (or Darkblood, if you're into that,) notice that the twinblade enemies are carrying curved-twinblades, there's a weapon in DS2 called the Curved Twinblade, it's item description actually reads,
"A twinblade imported from a foreign land. The razor-sharp blades cause bleeding, but as a result, are easily worn and dulled.
When wielded by a master, this dual-tipped blade is an unparalleled weapon that hardly allows a foe the opportunity to retaliate."
You get this weapon from the chancellor at Drangleic castle in NG++, which is something you probably already know by now.
