      Well the Late Show has already topped the ratings for 2 years now. The reason I think Comedy Central is burying it, along with Jon's Daily Show is because the new Daily Show isn't doing as great and there's already been three shows that CC has tried to fill the time slot of the Report and all failed and got canceled. So basically, by posting those old shows, they don't serve as advertisement for cbs as much as they serve as bullets for their own current shows.

He has often said that if he wasn't doing comedy, he'd be doing time, as he can't imagine himself doing anything else. His sister on the other hand, did actually run for Congress. Let his siblings take up the mantle and he can remain the jester.

    Stephen Colbert has been such a huge part of my life for so long. I genuinely believe that he will kick total ass. I mean he is seriously one of the greatest artists of our time and a simple change of reference will only liberate him more. I never have known much about Dave Letterman admittedly but no one defines their self by their name really anyway. I do mean artist. Also this has all been for-told by a guest Colbert had long ago that found his ancestor with a very relevant name that you could not imagine without highly obvious context clues. (wink)

    Here's the thing though, and take it from a 90's kid, Steven's audience is mostly the young crowd right? It's why he was asked to be the new host. But late night shows are dying. Us kids today don't watch late night, no one ever says "Hey did you catch Fallon last night?" With adult swim and other late night cartoon shows/video games, the attention to interactive late night is dwindling down. Steven should stick to his niche, because once his character and novelty wear off with the new show, the ratings will slowly decline :/

      Yes, most likely it was boiled down to the money.
      According to Forbes estimated salary, which I know isn't exactly credible, but at least it is some sort of measure of the discrepancy between Colbert current's salary and his future contract with CBS. 42Million is what Letterman is getting while Colbert is estimated at over 10 million. That's quite a bit of money even for our 1% Stephen and tempting indeed.

      It really is a shame that the ownership groups of CBS (CBS Corp) and Comedy Central (Viacom) have such a big pissing match going on between them. (What's really crazy: they used to be part of the same company)
      Colbert seems so hamstrung by lawyers that he has to refer to the Report as "the old show" whenever it comes up on Late NIght.
      It'd have been great if Colbert could've been able to mention his new job on air during the Report, or if lawyers didn't get involved when he brought "Stephen" back out during the Republican Primaries and did The Word (notice how he has to call it "The Werd" when he does it now?).
      Also, I just want to see the honorable Hans Beinholtz back on TV again, and I doubt Viacom's lawyers would let that happen.

    I like Colbert, but I love Dave. I think, even if given 2 decades on a show, nobody on tv today could replicate the level of admiration and devotion that he and Johnny had from viewers and colleagues alike. But for my money, Jimmy Kimmel is the reigning heir of the late night genre. By sheer love and study of that niche craft he wiggled his way into doing it, and nobody today does it better. Colbert does not have the absurdity down the way Dave did, but JK understands it well. As much as I like him, I don't like Colbert in the Ed Sullivan theater.

    As funny as it would have been if Louis CK had taken over for Letterman (because of the story arc on Louie), Colbert is a great choice. But now who can we turn to for The Report?

    • @4pl3x
      @4pl3x 10 років тому +1

      Lol, was that even an idea? I highly doubt Louis ck was gonna become a host..

    • @0okamino
      @0okamino 10 років тому +1

      4pl3x I don't think it was actually considered, but it was a story on the show Louie. They even played a clip of it during one of Louis' guest appearances on the Late Show.

      Well, I doubt The Report will continue after he goes on to host The Late Show. However, if Comedy Central wants to make a new show to replace the Colbert Report... How about John Oliver?

    • @0okamino
      @0okamino 10 років тому

      DeLusion I guess it's technically possible to do both, but I'm not sure how well that would work since John Oliver also has his own show as of April 27th.

    Letterman is a talk show host and Steven plays a conservative on a news parody show. I imagine Steven will be himself when he takes over like jimmy or Conan. They don't have an alternative personality and their shows aren't 100% news oriented. They talk briefly about some breaking news but the rest of the show is non political skits, guests from all walks, and a lot of humor. Talk shows are about bringing on guests and interviewing them while Colbert report was about mocking the news totally unrelated shows.

      edisonsun21c It is an in joke. Remember Stephen here is playing Stephen Colbert the character not the real man. Here he is playing the right wing idiot pundit, not the clever, kind and multi talented Stephen Colbert the real man who we will be seeing in September 2015.

      He won't, he can't, as he will alienate so many people. He has to be himself, whatever that is.

    On one hand, great choice for Letterman's replacement; on the other, Colbert's genius will be largely wasted on such a relatively banal gig.
