I hate that Comedy Central essentially buried the Report. So hard to find all the videos.
spartanB0292 go to the comedy central website >shows>the colbert report
Doesn't work if you're watching from Europe though
Because they'd be advertising for CBS at this point.
Well the Late Show has already topped the ratings for 2 years now. The reason I think Comedy Central is burying it, along with Jon's Daily Show is because the new Daily Show isn't doing as great and there's already been three shows that CC has tried to fill the time slot of the Report and all failed and got canceled. So basically, by posting those old shows, they don't serve as advertisement for cbs as much as they serve as bullets for their own current shows.
@@randelcarpio Won't be long before we find Futurama re-runs on there. Ooops, sorry...almost forgot that they're on SyFy now.
5 years later, and he’s already done what Letterman never could: beat NBC in the ratings!
And he did it with politics, of all things.
Letterman did beat Leno during the early stages of the CBS switch. But I do agree that it is hard to do being political.
Only Stephen Colbert could have done it with politics.
#TeamLettermanForLife but Dave had to go up against Jay Leno whereas Stephen only had to deal with (ugh) Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon was great on snl, but yeah, thats no feat.
@@sesa2984 meh , fallon is funny tho especially with Guillermo and Matt Damon
and he filled the shoes
Krishna Venkat Chaitanya and pants too!
not really. He's much better doing the Report than the Late Show tbh.
@@jamirimaj6880 i think it’s cuz of the network not him. CC didn’t care what he said most of the time. ABC definitely cares
@@elihenley6982 Colbert is under CBS.
@@kalvingoodlaxson you kno what I meant they’re all the same. Capitalists saying they cover capitalism objectively
Dave and Johnny were the reasons I was so tired at school the next morning. My sense of humor grew out of watching these guys. Dave rocks! Stephen will rock too!
Couldn't have happened to a better guy!
00:42 to skip applause
That'd be like starting your day without a proper shit.
you never skip Colbert applause
@@DannyBPlays lol what are you doing commenting on a six year old video?
Thank you
I hope he doesn't shy away from politics just to break away from this character. His wit is so cutting, and in times like these, it's really cathartic. I think that's why I'm going to miss him on the Colbert Report so much.

"I hope he doesn't shy away from politics" - This is funny to read now.
@@yohei72, lol, came in here to say the same thing
update us ! how do you feel now:O
You're gonna LOVE it - from 2021
jon stewert, steven colbert, and john oliver are the only way i get news
+Shawn Jacob I dont think thats a good idea
+Siddharth Suri still better than fox viewers tho...
+Siddharth Suri could be worse
Check out Sam bee dude og daily show correspondent
bill maher too
I predict Stephen will get the job and do it from home.
damn ur clairvoyant
"I do not envy whoever they pick to put in that chair."
I wonder why....
He was in character then.
Yeah, he didn't ever feel envy to whoever they pick to sit in that chair
the audience already knew Colbert was the replacement. This Stephen, is not the same Stephen, as long as you remember, he is in character.
From the first day of his adulthood watching David until actually replacing him. Wow.
Steven:I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair...
Us:We're not stupid Steven, we know it's you, good luck Steven LOL
Jordan Valencia that was the joke, and it’s Stephan.
this guy can run for president
He already did.
***** he is a comedian. Not a politician. No, wait, he is a BRILLIANT comedian. His talents would be wasted as a politician. Stephen is destined to be a comedic performer for his entire life. He has often said that if he wasn't doing comedy, he'd be doing time, as he can't imagine himself doing anything else. His sister on the other hand, did actually run for Congress. Let his siblings take up the mantle and he can remain the jester.
Colbert Report= best late night show of all time!
i miss this show so much!
I'm proud of you Stephen! :-D
I miss this show
"I do not envy whoever fills that chair." That would be you, Stephen. And you call yourself your biggest fan. Go friggin' figure.
***** Did you hear that?
No?
That was the sound of that joke sailing tremendously high over your head...
Stephen Colbert has been such a huge part of my life for so long. I genuinely believe that he will kick total ass. I mean he is seriously one of the greatest artists of our time and a simple change of reference will only liberate him more. I never have known much about Dave Letterman admittedly but no one defines their self by their name really anyway. I do mean artist. Also this has all been for-told by a guest Colbert had long ago that found his ancestor with a very relevant name that you could not imagine without highly obvious context clues. (wink)
Anyone missing this show in 2020?
1:30
I blame everyone that whistle and cheer for Stephen to leave 😤😤😤😤
Really think Steven should stick to the Colbert Report. They should get someone like Fallon or Kimmel to do the Late Night show.
Not that i think he wont kill at as a host(cause he will), it's just that they won't be able to get anyone to replace him on the Report and i really love the Report.
You do know Fallon and Kimmel already have their own talk shows right?
PaulGilbertrulezzz Yup and that's why they should switch. Talk show host to talk show host. Why go political satire to talk show host?
Zomious Jimmy Fallon was a comedian and switched to talk host, i don't think you can label people so quickly.
Zomious Soooo, you're saying Fallon should leave the tonight show and move to CBS? Try saying that out loud before you type it.
Yep Colbert report is dead and he's in his shoes
This geezer will be 50, almost 51 when he starts on Late Show next year. Then again, Carson was 66 when he retired from The Tonight Show so I guess Colbert still has some years in him. Great choice for CBS.
Well Letterman was 47 when he got his current show so its not really all that different
Is he really 50? He looks 30.
Avexyli buddy you must know some heavily wrinkled 30 year olds
I remember watching this. I cried when I heard
I'm on board, we all hate to see David retire and all but, come on this guy is a genius!.
I think this was just when they got Colbert to sign a contract to CBS replace Letterman as the host of the Late Show when he said “I won’t envy anyone who replaced him.” But I could be wrong since it seemed like the next day this happened, or if they were announced it while Letterman was planning to retire.
Colbert's the best.
Lol Steve, now you ARE Letterman!
Glad he got it...
I will miss Colbert Report. From most reports Colbert is gonna retire his character once he goes to Late Show. Its the end of an era for both . Colbert Report was one of the best shows on Comedy Central and David Letterman will never be replaced. Good luck Stephen Colbert.
Oh how he doth fill the big shoes of David Letterman!
I still miss this show
Did he know he would end up replacing him at this time? when this was filmed?
+walkinghawk Yep. It was announced either that day or the day before. So the audience knew as well.
Huh. I thought I remembered a longer delay between Dave announcing he was leaving and CBS picking/announcing Stephen as his replacement.

"I do not envy the one they put in that chair."
Followed by roaring applause
I'm going to miss The Report!!! This is going to make me watch Late Night.
i can t help but to feel sad.. i will miss the character so much..
john oliver needs to replace colbert
Do you mean replace Colbert's timeslot with his own report show? Cause I think we can both agree that having someone British try to be like Colbert would not work out so well, but if he brought his own brand of humor then I would probably watch his show.
disrespectfully disagree
MrTJPAS Obviously nobody else is going to do the Bill O'Reilly impression, but I think Oliver could take the timeslot and keep the news-parody theme. A TV version of his podcast would be pretty great.
Eoin Fitzgibbon christian cumigad Y'all do know Oliver just got signed to a new show with HBO right?
sfochild yeah but its going to be once a week, and oliver kills it as a political satirist/comedian and seeing him daily would be awesome
" I do not envy who they try to put in that chair.....those are some HUGE shoes to fill".........Little does Stephen know, .... :P LOL
Does this mean Mr. Colbert can change to a Hollywood-guild name, like, S. Jimmi3 Colbert...?
Maybe its me but I feel like this is a demotion. I know the money he is going to get will be ridiculous and maybe he will have room to try more comedy that is not related to politics but at the end of the day, I just don't see them having the freedom Comedy Central allows. The Colbert Report is not just another late night show like The Tonight Show, Late Show, etc.
That's the way I see it, too.
How do you know if you haven't seen him in the tonight show?
How do you know if you haven't seen him in the tonight show?
Well, no one ever thought the Daily Show would last, when it first aired. But, when Jon Stewart took it over from Craig Kilborn, he took the show into a completely different direction; and look how well it's done. Maybe Colbert will change some things at Late Night.
Colbert actually took a pay cut when he moved to CBS. He wanted the job that badly
I hope Colbert brings a bit of his character with him to Late Night.
Don't leave the report!!!
so exciting for the whole TCR team - if ever there was somehow a hybrid homerun and touchdown, this is it . This will be be a fun victory lap for everyone. No just make a nice pass off transition of TCR ( or just its timeslot), that's be a hole -in-one.
Hard to believe it was seven years ago
Besides the whole Harvey Pekar thing, I like Dave
1:29 it's on NBC, Signed CBS
Stephen will be missed
I still can't believe this guy will be replacing Letterman... than again, that's what I said when O'Brain took over for Dave back in '93
And look at Conan now
Can't be still do BOTH shows? I mean, one of the Stephens is a separate person per Viacom
Here's the thing though, and take it from a 90's kid, Steven's audience is mostly the young crowd right? It's why he was asked to be the new host. But late night shows are dying. Us kids today don't watch late night, no one ever says "Hey did you catch Fallon last night?" With adult swim and other late night cartoon shows/video games, the attention to interactive late night is dwindling down. Steven should stick to his niche, because once his character and novelty wear off with the new show, the ratings will slowly decline :/
Oops - from 2021
I wonder if he is going to continue the whole satire thing. I really wonder what there going to do. Two entirely different shows...Also can someone tell me what good this is going to do for his career? he is already the second most popular late night show behind Stewart. Is this just about money...? are they going to change the name of the show? so many questions ahahaaa
Yes, most likely it was boiled down to the money.
According to Forbes estimated salary, which I know isn't exactly credible, but at least it is some sort of measure of the discrepancy between Colbert current's salary and his future contract with CBS. 42Million is what Letterman is getting while Colbert is estimated at over 10 million. That's quite a bit of money even for our 1% Stephen and tempting indeed.
Noplay Well The colbert report being my favorite show i don't exactly love this news..Do you think there is any chance he can do both?
Onavrin Never happen. Rival networks and all, Comedy Central will not allow him to pitch CBS and vice versa, and theres no way he wont promote himself.
***** They are both viacom? I did not know that, guess it is possible. Thanks man.
Could be his evil liberal twin clone or something replacing Letterman
Was it known at this point that Colbert was DLs replacement??? Or were they just cheering in hopeful pursuit?
It was known, but he was in character.
Did he know at the time, that he'd replace Dave?
Yes. He is doing a bit here
Hey how's it going? You're Sharp! wrench enter What's happening.. !
Yo! Its funny elderly taste What's your opinion about that 11
Just wonder, did he announce on his show he was taking over?
No. If I remember correctly he wasn't allowed to mention he was taking over The Late Show on Comedy Central which led to a lot of funny jokes.
It really is a shame that the ownership groups of CBS (CBS Corp) and Comedy Central (Viacom) have such a big pissing match going on between them. (What's really crazy: they used to be part of the same company)
Colbert seems so hamstrung by lawyers that he has to refer to the Report as "the old show" whenever it comes up on Late NIght.
It'd have been great if Colbert could've been able to mention his new job on air during the Report, or if lawyers didn't get involved when he brought "Stephen" back out during the Republican Primaries and did The Word (notice how he has to call it "The Werd" when he does it now?).
Also, I just want to see the honorable Hans Beinholtz back on TV again, and I doubt Viacom's lawyers would let that happen.
Didn’t Stephen Colbert take over?
Wait did he know at this point?
Of course
Colbert Is 10x funnier than letterman ever was
nope.
you have no clue, Dave changed television. without Dave there would be no Colbert
+Cypres9999 Colbert is still funnier
+Konnonic different styles completely. Not something logically should be compared
someone should listen to their hero.
I like Colbert, but I love Dave. I think, even if given 2 decades on a show, nobody on tv today could replicate the level of admiration and devotion that he and Johnny had from viewers and colleagues alike. But for my money, Jimmy Kimmel is the reigning heir of the late night genre. By sheer love and study of that niche craft he wiggled his way into doing it, and nobody today does it better. Colbert does not have the absurdity down the way Dave did, but JK understands it well. As much as I like him, I don't like Colbert in the Ed Sullivan theater.
what are they chanting?
He'll be okay if he does something different than the rest now. And if he lets the silvers come through on his temples. The shellac budget must cut into the superpac funds.
As funny as it would have been if Louis CK had taken over for Letterman (because of the story arc on Louie), Colbert is a great choice. But now who can we turn to for The Report?
Lol, was that even an idea? I highly doubt Louis ck was gonna become a host..
4pl3x I don't think it was actually considered, but it was a story on the show Louie. They even played a clip of it during one of Louis' guest appearances on the Late Show.
Well, I doubt The Report will continue after he goes on to host The Late Show. However, if Comedy Central wants to make a new show to replace the Colbert Report... How about John Oliver?
DeLusion I guess it's technically possible to do both, but I'm not sure how well that would work since John Oliver also has his own show as of April 27th.
Letterman is a talk show host and Steven plays a conservative on a news parody show. I imagine Steven will be himself when he takes over like jimmy or Conan. They don't have an alternative personality and their shows aren't 100% news oriented. They talk briefly about some breaking news but the rest of the show is non political skits, guests from all walks, and a lot of humor. Talk shows are about bringing on guests and interviewing them while Colbert report was about mocking the news totally unrelated shows.
Stephen’s aging like a president.
Is he being sarcastic?
edisonsun21c It is an in joke. Remember Stephen here is playing Stephen Colbert the character not the real man. Here he is playing the right wing idiot pundit, not the clever, kind and multi talented Stephen Colbert the real man who we will be seeing in September 2015.
John King I'm hoping that Colbert will still maintain the act once he starts his Late Show run.
He won't, he can't, as he will alienate so many people. He has to be himself, whatever that is.
***** Considering the man he's replacing, that would make for a revolutionary feat. Time will only tell though...
Looking at Stephen's first videos on his Late Show You Tube channel, it seems he is blending his old persona along with his real self.
Goodbye David ..i think he will present another show like Larry King
Oh yeah CBS is going to pay him more than Comedy Central for sure. They need him Because their audience is so small and so old.
Letterman made fun of Clinton, Bush and Obama, he didnt base the entire show around them like Colbert does with Trump
Well Trump is different from Clinton and Bush and Obama. Trump is a clown. A clown that cause attention towards him
Hสวัสดีคะคุณนักข่าวดิฉันบอกคุณตั้งนานแล้วนะคะหีดว่าให้มาช่วยดิฉันหน่อยนะคะ
On one hand, great choice for Letterman's replacement; on the other, Colbert's genius will be largely wasted on such a relatively banal gig.
Stephen seems so smug.
Remember this was "Stephen Colbert" the character, not the real Stephen.
Letterman sucks, it's a miracle that he's still alive, not even bacteria wants his body.
The end of his 'humor' era and the start of his Illuminati, 'sold out' era.
Sell out.
what are they chanting?
They're chanting his name
What do you think
