Jason and the Argonauts is one of those movies you never missed as a kid if it was on TV. Great looking finish to the model kit of the famous scene in that epic movie. Ray Harryhausen was just incredible with his imagination and vision on some of the best creations in the movies!
Lord when I was a kid this was my favorite movie. Can you imgine I was like 13 in 1977 . Here I am watching Jason and the Argonauts. Just blew me away,. Of course I would buy Fangoria, full of pictures. We boys at school always had movies to talk about. I am so glad they are making these. Thank you Lou. exciting models coming out.
That as awesome. My wife was watching that very movie just last night believe it or not. He was moving towards the ship when I stopped watching. Really great job on the model. The patina looked fantastic!
That turned out really nicely! I was a little surprised by the bright green when you started the weathering but the finished figure looks great. Too bad that you are on a trip - so are we - to visit our grand kids in Durham! If I could find you I would offer to buy lunch! Next time perhaps......
The figure turned out very, very well. The patina is top-shelf even without pigeon poop. One thing that ship modelers often do with splashes is to dry brush a little white on the edges of the splash.
Here's wishing you a good trip! Have a great time and come back safely, please. I hope you'll share the ins and outs of putting together a soft vinyl kit, too. :)
When you said that the model wouldn´t be needing internal supports I got to thinking wow, maybe Lou´s going to fill Talos up with Ichor! With a tray to collect it under the base and a mini pump system he could be churning that stuff out for ever! Add some dry ice for some "Steam" and Lou´s Talos (or maybe Talou!) ís gonna be a winner at every convention... Whadya think Lou? Love your work! Regards, Swami
Yet another really lovely result Lou 👍😁 The finish on the figure is just stunning! No point me trying this kit - it would never be as good as yours and that would be frustrating. A great quick base with only a couple of issues that look out of place - the edges of the foam need finishing/hiding as these are not to the same excellent standard as the rest of the model and so stand out. Also, it seems to me that there should be a bit of white foam on the water as is washes round the feet of the figure. Both minor issues that I am sure you will be able to sort in a few minutes. Hope to see you at Telford 😀
Hey Lou, there's a verdigris product by Dirty Down that's superb. I don't have anything to do with them, but I know that their products are used in the TV and movie business. I've used this and their Rust and Moss and highly recommend them. Saying that, what you used looks pretty fine!
thank you so much for doing this video on this as i have just brought this kit and will be doing the same process so its been a great learning curve. if you have any more of these models please do more videos on the painting ect
Ha! I’ve been watching some videos of a mainly car creator where he uses UV resin, so that was where my mind went you were pondering what to fill the gaps with( probably because I’ve been itching to give it a try myself). He wasn’t using it to fill gaps, though. He was using the resin to create lenses and gauge covers.
Great quick build, Lou. Essentially only two colours and you're good to go! Didn't realise you were going to Telford this year with WoW. I considered going but it would mean a seven-hour round trip from London...and I don't drive! Looking forward to your coming reports! Cheers
@@aztekdummy @sliuman Now I'm confused. MCM Comic Con London was LAST weekend (I was there); MCM Birmingham isn't until 1st-3rd December. There's no MCM on the same weekend as Telford. 🤔
Great to see you're coming to Telford this year Lou, hope to see you there. Are you meeting up with Wayne? Be nice to have a chat over a cuppa. Will you be there on Sunday?
im going to have to completely repaint mine again as i did him all over in model colour bronze which was like a gold and doesent look right with the patina on so will do him in the bronze again you used :(
Not all of us can say we have a 12" Talos! In my outspoken but humble opinion, I think you got a little too green-- too much verdigris. It doesn't detract from the ancient-ness of the thing, but it's rather green. In fact it doesn't detract at all-- the overall model is terrific. Love the last minute base work-- came out really nice. Solarez is the bee's knees. I went through the same irritating path-- best guess: not all UV cure resins are the same. Nor the damn UV lights. Yes, I tried to cheap out and of course, spent twice as much in the end. You should'a put in a bit of rigging-- not all taut and ship-shape but something. Yeah-- those holes could take a lot of rat-lines. Recall one thing about ship rigging-- every aspect of those sails have to be controlled from the deck so there's a LOT of ropes all over the place. The sails could be held rigid even as it tipped over-- there would have been a few lines from the corners to the railing (reef lines to the chain plate! uh, matey!). Or a bunch snapped free-- soak your thread in Solarez and bake it in curled positions, etc. Very satisfying to see. One wonders what good Mr. Haryhausen would think of the whole endeavor? Have a good con-- do try to show us something. I'm curious about a mid-level town con like this. You're our eyes and ears-- take us along...
Nice work Lou but, personally, I'm disappointed with the sculpt on this kit (there looks to be proportion issues similar to the Fly kit). Here's hoping that X-Plus do a plastic kit of Talos on the plinth......
what was the name of the paint you used for the patina lou, did you say it was called ocean breeze and what was the company that made it? was it coral smart ?
@@aztekdummy I have a model kit coming soon and want to create masks for the clear plastic windows so I can paint the bars without getting any color on the screen parts and I am part of a group of people that would love having them and if there were masks for markings as well much the better.

Yes! Talos is my favorite Harryhausen creation. Wanted to share that before I even watch the video.
And of course, I was not disappointed with the result.

the sails should have been modeled with gravity pulling the sails hanging downward
i think the uv resin states on the bottle the required wavelength for it to cure
I think the flashlights weren't giving out the proper waves
