You know who else works hard? The housekeeper. She manages to clean strangers homes all day and then she goes home and cleans her own house and takes care of her own family.
This whole reasoning is stupid. The economy doesn't work if everyone follows their dreams. Hollis isn't rich because she worked hard, she's rich because she's been lucky.

This. It can be compared to the amount of talented singers there are in this world. Do they all become famous? No. Are there some singers who are more talented than some current famous singers now? Of course. Does that mean they aren’t talented, no. They didn’t catch their big break, that’s all. I’m sure there are plenty of people who are we hardworking if not more than her and will never become millionaires.

She married money, gave BS talks at mlm conventions, projected she had the keys to a successful marriage and just common knowledge and take credit for it all the time getting divorced. What also gets me is that she either didn't explain why, or I just really didn't understand it. I can't possibly fathom what about this could have been worse than all of those traumas if she refused to read the comments. So unless her team basically came to her and said, "Hey just fyi you're a terrible person and the entire internet wants you dead," then it makes no sense. She even said that she didn't understand what she did wrong.

Hiring a housekeeper if you can afford it is awesome! There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It helps you, and it gives someone a job. Rachel doesn't realize that people feel grossed out by the way that she talks about her housekeeper, who is a professional. The way she talks about this person as "my girl", "this sweet woman", "she cleans the toilets", makes it sound like she doesn't value or respect the important service this person provides. It sounds belittling to this employee who she claims to value so much and it minimizes the scope of what housekeepers do, and it's a tough job.

former housekeeper here and yeah...... cleaning houses isn't the most rewarding job on here, but knowing that my clients maybe referred to me as "that boy who scrubs the toilets when we're not here" the way rachel talks about her housekeeper makes me mad. she says everyone can clean a house, which is probably true, but it is a physically demanding job that requires to work fast, know your equipment, be organized, because there's cleaning your house when you have the time and no pressure, AND cleaning an entire house under two hours for a client who has expectations and wants things to be done a certain way- with all of those variables changing depending on the client. as you said, housekeepers are not girls/boys who scrub toilets, but professionals who have a job and have to do it right.

If there is one solid criticism for "cancel culture" its that when people like Rachel get "cancelled" they suddenly have an out, and they can go around acting like a victim and a martyr of "cancel culture". They point out the outrageous comments made against them, ignore or downplay the valid criticism, and suddenly they're praised for being "strong" for "making it through being cancelled". It happens so much, and Rachel isn't the only example. Saying "don't feel sorry for me" and "I accept full responsibility" and then proceeding to try and gain sympathy and complain about being "cancelled" doesn't work. It's endlessly frustrating to see people who are called out for being awful turn around and play the victim when people call them out.

Her bringing up the Caleb dating scenario was such a false comparison and I can't help but think that it was purposely misleading. Not only is he not a public figure, but he also didn't put his crappy behavior out to the world to financially benefit from. Also, she did not need to bring up her black friends to try and legitimize herself. That felt so forced and opportunistic. I wish she would do an interview that would actually challenge her, like this podcast claimed it would do but didn't.

I wish my husband made the kind of money Dave did when Rachel was building her dream business(es). 🙃 I would be in such a different position with that kind of head start.

I know that it’s outrageous to hear that her cancellation was darker in her life than her brother’s death and her miscarriage, but to me it actually makes sense. When you’re someone who goes through life doing everything you can to see the brighter side or to not let the things that happen to you change how you view the world, dark things like death and loss are kind of manageable because it’s kind of a facts of life kind of thing. Death is a byproduct of life. X% of pregnancies miscarry. But compared to those two instances, the cancellation was the only thing Rachel was actually responsible for. It’s the only one that she had to reconcile her part in order to move on. The other two things happened to her and she needed to pick herself up and keep going. The cancellation was on her. Her actions and choices were being called into question and it had consequences that were far more severe than just losing face on a social media platform. The way she supports her family, the way she finds value in herself, the way she helps others through difficult times - everything was changing and it was because of her own actions.
Just psychologically speaking, I can understand how her mind protected her from death and miscarriage but left her to struggle with the cancellation.

I think it's so ironic that some of the absolute most insecure people end up being motivational speakers. Because let's recap: Rachel built an entire brand on trying to be relatable and having people affirm that she was enough when she publicly asserted all the ways she was human and still worthy. Then one person called her unrelatable and she thought about it all day, slept on it, and then proceeded to angrily blow up her reputation the next day. She basically said, "Fine! I never actually wanted to relate to you anyway! I'm not like most people because most people suck!"
I wish she would actually talk about the reality of that, because any counselor worth their salt would pick up on that pretty quickly in sessions, especially over this. I'm sure she knows and it's disappointing that she's not talking about her process on that, because that would be the most honest work she's ever done.

What’s amazing to me is that Rachel CLEARLY was triggered by the “accusation” that she is “unrelatable”. I think that she absolutely has some shame around that…perhaps being seen as relatable helps her feel seen and heard and understood. I think she tried to use her accuser’s words against him/her and try to take away from what Rachel clearly felt as an insult. The venom and seething fury that Rachel barely kept under wraps demonstrates just how much those words affected her. To this day, Rachel NEVER owned the fact that her TikTok rant was a huuuuge overreaction to something that a viewer/follower said/commented that actually [fill in the blank] ie hurt her feelings (or whatever actually happened). This whole conversation never deals with the actual reasons why Rachel’s comments were so problematic. Her inability to truly “get it” after all this time makes me think she is more of a narcissist than I ever thought. She still seems clueless about what really happened. It’s a shame too because it would’ve been really interesting had she owned her mistake and really grew from this. Instead, she’s gonna lecture US about why we’re wrong to be upset with her. Thanks, Rach. We’ll take it from here. You can sit the rest of this out. Your flavor of “help” turns out to be anything but helpful. In fact, it’s hurtful. She needs to find something else to invest her life in other than insisting that she has answers for anyone. She seems addicted to being loved and adored by others. Addicted to recognition and validation. Addicted to the limelight. And most certainly addicted to the money that all of these other things usher in. She’s not anyone I would ever look up to or aspire to be. I honestly wonder if she will one day just disappear because people no longer want what she’s shilling? Or if she will have a nervous breakdown a la Dave Hollis and Pancake Gate? Either way I’m not sure she can keep up this charade of a façade for much longer.

If this happened FOR her, it taught her a lesson at the expense of others who were really deeply hurt by her words. This is still such a self-absorbed state of mind. @10:32 Rachel has no basis to assume that the tone in which the person made that statement was one that was judgmental and aggressive, it could have just been an observation - so for her to assume it was an attack... it's just very self-centered. Also, she seems to be assuming that the other person said it out of jealousy or inability to afford it themselves - in which case, her responding so aggressively towards that person and applying all the things she did to them while on her MASSIVE public platform could be considered punching down. Rachel is such an contradiction - she wants everyone to think she's just like us, gets triggered if we don't, and THEN makes a speech saying she doesn't want anyone to think she's relatable. ALso, - I don't think any of the women she mentioned were "unrelatable".

I really have a problem with a common habit/device many public speakers and social media “influencers” use. It really bugs me when speakers (like Rachel does often) ask rhetorical questions like, “Right?” or “Does that makes sense?” The listener doesn’t ACTUALLY have the chance to respond, so the speaker is actually manipulating the audience…and at times even gaslighting them into agreeing with the speaker. Call a spade a spade. These grifters are all about adoration, manipulation, money, power and control. No thanks.

This reminds me of the Madonna song "American Life," in particular the part where she raps (yes, raps) about all the things she has (a nanny, a private jet, a personal chef, etc.) because she's rich and famous and ends that part with "do you think I'm satisfied?" And even back in the early aughts, when people ate that stuff up, people were not only ridiculing a 40-something old white woman for rapping (in and of itself not terrible if done right... which it wasn't here,) but calling her out for essentially bragging about her enormous wealth while simultaneously claiming that it means nothing to her. THAT'S privilege: wealth that, if properly distributed, could transform thousands of lives, hoarded by an elite few who still claim to be "one of us."

How can you learn if you don’t read the comments and understand what people are upset about? That’s interesting that she says she didn’t read them - but it also makes sense, then, why she doesn’t understand what people were actually saying. She’s just going off what she inferred and what her friends said. (If she’s telling the truth about that.) hmm.
I also get not wanting to immerse yourself in negative comments - so I’m not necessarily judging that - but it also makes it hard to believe she actually wants to understand the real issues versus just wanting to “fix it”.

    • @thezincbar

April 1st 2021 was a Thursday. A weekend at 6 flags would have been the 3rd and 4th. She apologized on the 4th saying her PR team said not to comment for days but she wanted to.. did she not see it cuz she was at 6 flags and ignored it Thursday and Friday first or was it her PR teams fault?!

You know what could have instantly catapulted her back into the realm of relatability?
If she would have got on the next day and said that she was sorry for EVERYTHING she said, that she had gotten way too drunk and made a complete ass out of herself, and that she had given her cleaning lady a paid vacation and a big raise if she would agree to stay on after she said all those terrible things

i don't think rachel would have been successful without access to dave's money.
she'd been at it for about ten years before she went viral. and all the high flying customers for her event planning business? dave's connections.
without that money and those connections she would have been one of millions small business owners working her ass off to make ends meet without the time to do the things that made her famous. at best she would have reached a comfortable standard of living. but never the wealth she has now. and that is the only kind of success that counts for her.

I don’t think Rachel is even open to showing her true self. I don’t believe she knows who she is at all. I think she is simply a brand that will continue to insist that her perfectly curated imperfect “relatable” “big sister” image is her “true self”. She seems like she’s planning on leaving whatever is left of her true self buried deep inside never to be seen or heard from. It’s really sad because (in my own personal opinion) the REAL Rachel Hollis is the only version of her that (I believe) can make a meaningful difference in this broken world. And that goes for each one of us.

if a grown woman who is in the public sphere thinks of a "cancellation" over her out of touch statement as the worst thing ever...... i mean, no doubt that she has lived through hard things, but as you said, her comparing this to losing her brother to suicide and everything??? this is just messed up. i understand it being a hard and confusing time, but to me it is concerning that she thinks of it as the darkest time of her life.

Rachel’s completely ignoring the fact that she blamed her actions on “her team”. She’s taking ownership for her actions, which means she lied about “her team” influencing her choice to post problematic content. She owes her staff an apology, and she needs to admit that she lied.
