Didn't address the issue. Confident conversation or not, it's out now. Did you lie about Colin fixing the comp for you and Tom to get better groups and events? You said if you play ball they would do it for you. Just like they did for Eddie you said. What does Mark have to gain by this? Timing was aweful and definitely a low blow but if there is corruption and you agreed to it then you are a part of it. Shitty just like you said in the clip.

@@MTGBroker He did address all of it. Brand promotion is PR, it isn't rigging comps. Better seeding from better results at comps is a reasonable ranking system, it isn't preferential treatment. Retainers for freelance athletes isn't lining their pockets under the table, it's a sensible business model.
Making one minute out of context to be something it's not is no proof of fixing comps/events. That's on Boyd to actually prove, not on Luke to disprove.

Yup I can tell Luke didn’t like the fact they change events, and was stuck between a rock and a hard place. If this is true, I’d be pissed if I was an athlete coming up. Getting events catered to certain people. Screw that. Wsm probably should do a bit a explanation I think to keep integrity and peace. That’s just my opinion though.
@@christopherhunt6463 He did nothing wrong until just now with this video trying to say he didn't mean to say it, literally allowing Colins corruption because hes admitted his Stoltman brand is tied to Giants Live. I was their biggest fan and live close to them, this stinks and isn't what Stoltmans are, really disappointed but then they now have thousands of fans who wouldn't care what they did.
I guess as long as they make money and keep creating this echo chamber of fans on social media. This was a moment to change the sport, instead its just Luke trying to sweep it under the carpet and keep the status quo

@@joebot9309 dude for the past two years Luke has been in the group of death and Tom has been put on the same group as Trey in order to get a gnarly stone off out of the two. The groups are a toss up that sometime benefit certain athletes and sometimes others. It should not be that way but it just the way it has been so far. I even would go as far to say that this year the groups are more evenly spread out than in precious comps.

We've seen your character day in and day out. You're an amazing guy, athlete, brother, husband, and someone for all of us younger guys to look up to. I questioned the motives based on the timing. For one it feels like mudslinging to take down competition. For two it seems like payback for not doing WUS. You don't sit on something you feel is "evidence of corruption" until the day before the contest then release it unless you're crapping on the competition or the guy on the tape. Stay focused. Get mad. Then win. Oh, and stay spicy.
There is nothing wrong with retainers and promoting athletes alongside their brands, but when it comes to more favourable events and groups (your exact words), that's a corruption and I failed to hear anything about that in this video. We could all witness the 2017 drama and your words just prove Hafthor's point, so sorry, I'm not buying this damage control.
Nothing agianst you, you are in uncomfortable position and not siding with Collin might ruin your career, so I'm not surprised you would rather not go to WUS anymore than have a beef with GL/WSM crew. It just sucks for the athletes.

IDK guys this video doesn't ease any accusations the video made. First things first I've been Team Stoltman for a while so this kinda hurts but I still support them this year. However the excuse "I said that because I didn't want to to WUS" is nonsensical, a cop-out. And yeah the call shouldn't have been recorded but it was - no corruption is willingly revealed by the corrupt. Any reasonable person can understand the retainer to increase brand popularity, but the event/group fixing "like Colin did for Eddie" is a bombshell accusation and scary because that was Thor's main accusation in their beef. No judgement or valid opinion can be made without the full recording but man is this a bad look for the sport, for Colin, for Eddie, and yeah for Luke. He acknowledges that it's shitty because he's a good guy but seems to feel forced into it if the group fixing was real. And bad seeing that Tom and Luke's groups look pretty easy, only 1 real competitor compared to groups 2 and 3 that have 4 elite strongmen apiece
My read is that Luke feels like he has to take the deal with GL and WSM because they are the ones letting him make a living and provide for his family. It also screams that this corruption is an open secret in the world of Strong Man. So I think Luke is not speaking on it for fear of retribution. I always took thor as a whinner but with this recording (done in poor taste) it makes me have to reevaluate everything from Eddie's win to why Brian has struggled to why certain groups of death happen.

Luke, I’m a big fan of you and your brother, you’re an inspiration to me as an athlete, and I have nothing but love for both of you. You’ve been put in a tough spot, and that’s really crappy for this audio to come out the way it has with this timing.
That said, if there is corruption in the way events and groups are selected at WSM, the covers need to be pulled back all the way for the fans to see what really is. As fans, we have an expectation of fairness in the way these shows are ran, and we deserve transparency.
For now, focus on smashing it at World’s, but after the show, I know a lot of us would really like to learn more about these “retainers” and what exactly Colin Bryce is promising you guys.
Even when I heard the recording it didn’t sound like an issue to me.
There was no suggestion or accusation that the judges are corrupt of anything, just that some favoritism might be shown as far as events selection and groups. This is no surprise to me. They have to be selecting the events and groups somehow and obviously the athletes they are invested in and grow the sport the most they want to do well. So I don’t find that shady at all.
The competition is real but the events or groupings might favor one person or the other how they figure that I don’t really care. Bottom line is if you go and out perform the other guys you will win.

Firstly, I am a fan of you and Tom and hope you two compete to your best abilities. I don't think anyone cares about the retainer...but the Collins "support" is concerning. If he has any impact to the events chosen or to group seedings, then that is SUS as hell. You and your brother would be dumb not to take the help Collins provides...but he would be a piece of shit if he's trying to promote 1 athlete over another. Ultimately it does cast doubt onto prior group seedings/events chosen, and you conveniently didn't address your Collins remarks in the phone consersation.

So I my first thoughts on hearing the qualifying groups was yes, the Stoltmans are going to the finals "easier groups". However, I just heard about the audio.. and now starting to put all the pieces of the puzzle together which could have started all the way back in 2017 ? Bryce Collins.. sounds like he needs to go. I love you guys and I watch practically all of your videos, but I want you to speak up about change, fairness, and justice in a future video. I look forward to a plan. Nevertheless, focus on this contest now, but speak up and advocate for all athletes later so that there is a fair playing field for all. This news has now soured my enthusiasm for WSM. I hope everyone will commit to the Shaw Classic which now seems to be the most saintly event. Held by an athlete for the athletes.
look at all tennis events and athletes are seeded same in the football world cup. in athletics its the same. event organisers want the big names in the final period. thats how all sports work. if you put luke martins and tom in one group then its business suicide
Yea and look at the group Brian gets year after year. Also look at how transparent Brian is about the events/schedule for the Shaw Classic it screams to me that Brian had this plan for a long time and finally had the resources to execute, I hope that the Shaw Classic surpasses WSM here in a couple of years which I think it will if Brian keeps upping his game in the event management department.

I'm sure we will have many more conversations on the subject AFTER WSM, but I'm not interested in ruining one of the most important sporting events of the year for so many fans. Put this shit to one side and investigate it thoroughly AFTER WSM, and after the winner of WSM has had their rightful glory and celebrations. Very shit timing here by Boyd. I get it, he's frustrated and been trying to make progress on this since last mid-to-late 2021. Well, that's when this audio should've been released and fleshed out with full transparency. Releasing the audio when he did - absolute dick move I believe he'll eventually realize was wrong.

Personally all this really tells me is that Colin Bryce needs to be replaced. The man seems to promote favoritism for his fellow countrymen and that is just not fair for the other athletes.
If we're already at it, replace Mark Boyd since it seems he's willing to throw athletes under the bus because they didn't want to compete in the show he's promoting.
I still love the Stoltman brothers and I understand why they did this - I feel that in a sense maybe they were pressured into it, a little "shake my hand or else" situation.
All in all I just hope this won't disrupt the competition and that everyone will give us a great performance!
Edit: It seems that WUS have parted ways with Mark Boyd a couple of days after this video was uploaded. Good riddance. :)

Just what I was thinking. I find it hard to see how that recording is just taken out of context.
He explained in the video if you do more giants live and do well you get a better seed within a group at worlds as that's a qualification for seeds. He was 3rd seed 2020 because he only did one show and 2nd seed the year after because he did more shows. He's top seed this year because of Europe's & Arnold's.

@@thorthewolf8801 everyone over performed expectations, bobby Thompson was very new and a low seed, Kevin was 3rd seed having been a previous finalist. Luke second & Novikov 1st. The group events just weren't novikovs best & lower seeds more favourable ones. This year toms group has 2 previous finalists & himself, and Luke has another previous finalist & one of the top 5 guys from last year. Toms always been paired with Evan/Trey, so he wasn't going to get them this year as well

I mean even if it was recorded unknowingly or just a clip out of a 30 minute conversation it still shows they display major favoritism for certain athletes in events and groupings. Also- why not just tell Mark "I'm not interested in coming to WUS" instead of saying what they said? "Recorded wrongly" aka I was speaking the truth and didn't realize it would go public.
yes they hand pick the groups, they always have and they have always been open about that. they have seeds to place so the best 6 guys in the competition dont end up in the same group
Yeah I feel the same. I'm a fan, but he didn't really go into what he said, he just kept saying it was supposed to be private. I get that. But you still need to address what you said! Was it wrong to be recorded like that, absolutely. But it is out now and the fans want to know if what you said is true. Is there favoritism, and objective unfairness in these competitions or not? It needs to be addressed and this didn't address it.
@@sharpestbulb right? It seemed pretty cut and dry to me. You want people competing in groups that match their skill level to see who the best in those groups are. That’s the whole point of seeding. Otherwise, you’ll have people with a resume like Shaw’s up against someone like Kim who’s just starting his strongman career. It’s not perfect, but it works, and it’s always been this way.
How else do these people think these athletes make their money? Promotions, promotions, promotions. Of course he would pay them a stipend to attend his shows: they’re two of the most popular names in the sport Strongman.

@@jordanparker938 No.. that isn't at all how it works. You don't "want people competing in groups that match their skill level". They always just divide the top guys among the groups and the rest doesn't matter much. If the top guys all ended up in one group, then the group stage would effectively turn into the final.

Im not so sure yet. This seems sketchy. It’s believable that wsm has a lot of sketch in it and I wouldn’t put luke off the hook quite yet. Don’t think he’s the worst guy ever but you don’t just accidentally say what he said.
The release wasn't to shame Luke... it was to shine light on the shady way in which GL and WSM operate.

Regardless the ethics of recording you, you knew what you were saying and the implications. It was clear in your reticence to say what you said. If there are unethical things going on with WSM seedlings, it needs to come out.

Just listened to the call in all honesty… it really shines light on what Thor was complaining about. So Eddie 100% was handed events in 2017 then. Eddie definitely smashed the shoulder press and Thor defo did whine like a baby and was fairly beat on that event. But the call literally proves that they were working with him. Like literally name drops Eddie. Wow. Lol. Absolutely mad.

While it is certainly a disservice as a friend to record private conversations, you didn't address the notion of Collin favoring events, which is a *massive* red flag. The same allegations were brought towards Eddie as well for his WSM win and it wouldn't come as a surprise if that were the case too. After all, Collin and Eddie both own the Giants Live company as of today and practically have a monopoly on Strongman as a sport.
Even back when Eddie broke the deadlift record, Collin was most likely the one behind the specific weight jumps, as in a Q&A with Brian Shaw, he pulled out of the competition because he said the weight jumps were selected *by Eddie and for Eddie*.
You're a good lad, Tom, but this is not something that's okay and you should feel at least somewhat guilty for giving into Collin's antics. He's been up to no good ever since he started making the primary directive approaches towards the sport.
It makes you wonder if the corruptions in Giant's Live and WSM isn't way Brian started the Shaw Classic. He knew they were corrupt and wont really play ball so they would make so he would never get his fifth title and started his own event to eventually take on WSM. I mean look at how fan friendly and athlete friendly it is compared to WSM.
Strip the WSM accolades. It’s beyond corruption at this point. Eddies title might not even count now.

Full support, this doesnt change my opinion. Context is everything, conversations spoken under the guise of it being private are never the same on any level usually than those spoken in public. In private we are all guilty of speaking hastily, lazily, unguarded etc as we naturally assume an understanding between the parties involved. End of the day strongmen are having to become business men, diversifying their income as I assume the strongman world just does not pay enough. The business world is not pleasant, is full of grey area's, favours, people trying to manipulate others, you name it. The Stoltmans are a business and brand which supports quite a few people and that will no doubt grow as time goes on, Ive never had the feeling that they are shady or involved in bad business. It does suck that this type of nonsense happens but unfortunately thats the system, you cant make an omlette with cracking eggs, you cant play in the mud without getting dirty. Usually this type of "reveal" in any world ( strongmen, business, gaming etc ) come from those who just struggle to break into and or hold onto their respective fields top tier. They cant accept that for whatever reason they just cant hack it as such they;ll go about trying to bring that top tier down to their level under the banner of doing the right thing. It was a very brief snippet that made it sound like if the Stoltmans did Giants Live that they would get preferential treatment at WSM, which caused everyone to freak out and declare WSM corrupt and that Eddie and Tom should have their titles stripped.

He’s a competing promoter throwing a friend under the bus the day before his oppositions biggest competition. Enough said. All the athletes have the same events, same rules and same chance to train. Sounds like pretty much every sport. The best athletes get seeded higher which gives them more favourable matches and gives them more chance to go further in tournaments/competitions.

seeding makes perfect sense to stop the big names knocking each other out but with strongman event selection is critical, the difference is golf is always golf and tennis is always tennis ....if events are being picked that suit luke and tom or eddie before them then that is bullshit

@@Lonewolf__666 I like the Stoltmans a lot but I don't like them more than I like guys like Brian who's trying so hard for a 5th title, and it felt like Tom was hand fed the title last year only for us to learn this now so it makes it pretty hard not to be pissed at them especially knowing that Brian's last win was in 2016 the year before this is alleged to have started with Eddie. I don't think Eddie did get the special treatment because it simply wouldn't make sense to push a guy who was going to retire after 1 win but still, pretty sketchy set of circumstances going on

Like Thor was talking about it and obviously it would make sense to want to build the Mountain Brand, probably Martins knew, and the Stoltmans obviously, guys who have a major following. I don't think guys like Novikov would be approached because honestly he isn't the charismatic likeable guy and I've barely heard him speak English. Chances are guys who won't ever win like Oberst and Felix haven't been approached either. And I think if you're approached you probably aren't gonna call it out because these guys don't want to be known as whistle blowers or get in trouble themselves.
I think even Brian Shaw could potentially have been approached, said "No", but then not wanted to call it out because he doesn't want to hurt the sport
