I spent half an hour trying to figure this out. What finally worked is for me to just say “Hey Google, sync my devices” to the hub and it started working (after doing the steps in this video, of course) Google home devices are so finicky and hit or miss to set up. Can remember the last time there weren’t multiple failures and restarts trying to set something up. Google should be ashamed at the experience they’ve created. Changing my wifi network name was a multi hour affair because many of their devices don’t support doing it, so they must be totally removed and re added. My account is also full of several broken/trashed products because the app doesn’t support REMOVING them when they’re in a disconnected state. Do better, Google.
Great video. Thanks for making it because it confirmed all the steps I was taking to get the doorbell to ring through the device. If you don't mind, I'd like to add additional troubleshooting here for those who might have the issue I had the last few days. The other day my Nest disconnected out of the blue and reset everything for me. I spent the last 3 days trying to figure out how to get my doorbell to ring but could not get it to ring even as I followed the instructions in the video above (still a great video). Before everything disconnected, I had the Google Home app connected to my Google smart speakers, Hubs and Nest Doorbell. When I got disconnected and tried to reconnect, I made sure everything was set up in the Nest app as mentioned in the video above. Next, I went into the Google Home app and make sure to select each one of my devices was not connected as a "Local Device" so that I could pair it to a specific room where the doorbell was connected. In other words, while in the Google Home app when I selected my Google Nest Mini in the "Office" I had to pair it with the room that had the doorbell connected to it. Then I did this with the other speakers and the doorbell started to work with all of my other smart devices. As a note, when you're in the Google Home app front page, go to the Hub you want to have ring, then you should be shown the display where you can adjust the volume. At the very bottom of that page, there should be an option where it says, "Add to Room". From there, select that option and then find the room where the doorbell is located. Remove it from "Local Devices" and move it to a specific "room" listed in the app where have your doorbell. If the "Add a Room" option is not available when you select a Hub or speaker, delete the device from "Local Devices" and you should notice that the device doesn't disappear, but needs to be reassigned. Click on the device again and the "Add a Room" option should reappear and then you can pair it with the room that is connected with the doorbell. Maybe there's an easier way to do this, but this was the only way I was able to get the doorbell to ring with Google Home paired on my iPhone. I don't know if Google did a firmware update, but this was a total pain in the a$$. I hope my comment helps someone else. Thanks for the video, Steve.
Is a Nest Aware subscription needed for this? I ask as I have both a Hello and a Home hub and I don't have the Visitor Announcements option in my Nest app. I can say "hey google, show the front door" and that works just fine.
Thanks, Steve. The part that still seems odd to me (and maybe I'm missing something here) is that I do not have the functions for viewing on the hub that I have on my Android phone app. For example: On my phone app I can see a history events that took place in the camera by simple scrolling through them. However, I cannot find a way to see these same events on the Hub. Is there a way?
Great video, but if you have three Google Nest Hubs, there is only one making an announcement, not all of them making an announcement, do you know how to make all of them making announcement? Thanks
Good video. I already made these settings before watching it since I have issues. My hub does not always respond when doorbell is pressed. If the doorbell is selected on the hub and showing the camera, then it works so settings are correct. But when the hub is in sleep mode or playing the slideshow then it does not respond when someone is on the doorbell. This feels strange, can't find any tips online. You have any idea?
Great video. Totally on task, no extra (pointless) BS, and had me up and running in a few minutes. Really appreciate a quality content provider. Thanks!
So I have seen delays between pressing the doorbell and getting a notification on your phone. Is the notification on the nest hub more instant? Also is the notification sound on your phone unique enough to distinguish it from other notifications?
Curious question about the nest cameras in to google nest home max how long can you view your cameras for because I’m using one of my nest indoor cameras as a baby monitor and I would like to view that baby monitor all throughout the night
good info.. I had everything setup as you did but I couldn't sync the doorbell with my hub. I had to remove the hub from google home and re add it to get it to work. just in case someone else has a similar issue.
so i have the google nest doorbell the second gen one and have the nest audio speaker and the nest hub i went into the doorbell and turned on the visitor announcements and still my speaker or the hub does not let me know when someone is at my front door
Is there an easy way to turn off announcements or do you just go in and reverse the process? eg if you have a doorbell that you want to change to a DND function at the end of the work day.
When I allow visitor announcements through the nest app it announces on every google home/nest in the house. Is there a way to choose exactly which devices individually announce?
Just received the indoor power adapter for my G N Hello. I have noticed that on every tutorial or instruction not once has it ever referred to the micro USB. Or using it to set up or start the set up with this. I found that pairing or setting up initially powered and literally on top of the router, sped up the entire process. As for the G N Hello. Spectacular. Other than the almost fish eye view, with the angle bracket. I think I'll remove it and see...... See.... OK
Hey Steve thanks for the helpful video! My understanding is that don’t need to use google home which is I can’t now connect my google doorbell, indoor iq camera and Yale there is no such things called nest on google home anymore! Thanks

Hi, can you show me how to get the visitors announcement on the google hub? It’s work on my phone but can not get it works on the hub and its very frustrated. Thanks
Great help Steve! With a few steps it worked 100% in my home. Only, all my google best devices (some a bit faster then the other) responds. So I have a little time of voices all over saying there is someone on my frontdoor.... XD Very funny! Is there a way to choose which device only must react?
@@jbambu9392 JB I figured out my problem. We already had a Chromecast in the house. Somehow in setting up the Nest Hello, it created a second "Home" group. Evidently the Chromecast and Home Hub were members of the original Home group, but the doorbell went to a new Home group. I uninstalled the doorbell, deleted the new "Home", reinstalled the doorbell, made sure the announcements setting was turned on, and the doorbell video began stealing focus on the Home Hub. Finally! My problem now is that the existing chimes in the house are only working periodically. :(
@@dmccalldds I think your post might have helped me out. My first devices were the doorbell and the home hub. So every time someone rings the doorbell it goes to the Home Hub perfectly. Never had an issue and there was never a need to migrate my nest account to Google. Since then, I got a Chromecast and I can stream the doorbell, but can never get it to show on my tv when someone rings the doorbell. The Home Hub is so small and to see who is at the door from across the room isn’t going to happen. So I would personally want it to show up on the Chromecast and my understanding is that it can. I also have a smart refrigerator and my understanding is it can be linked to that as well. But it’s working the same way as my TV where I can stream it, but it won’t pop up if someone rings the doorbell. Based on your post, I am assuming that you can have the doorbell streamed to and unlimited number of devices. However, the visitor announcement, I believe, can only happen to 1 of your devices. My thought is if I reinstall the doorbell, it may now work as I want it to on my TV through the Chromecast. My only concern is when you set it back up does it ask you which screen you want the doorbell to come on when it’s pressed. If not, I’m concerned that if I go through the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting it that I’ll be right where I started. In addition, you said yours isn’t consistent, which is not the case with mine. So what if I still can’t get it to work and now I made it worse by making it inconsistent. What I have strange is when I set up my refrigerator, it asked me what I wanted enable included the doorbell to pop up when someone rings it. Unfortunately, I can only get to stream. I can also hear everything, but I guess because it’s not recognizing the ring I can’t talk. I guess the most important question is how many displays can be triggered when someone rings the doorbell. I suspect it’s only 1. If I’m correct, then I’d prefer it to be my TV through the Chromecast because I can actually see it and how would I set that to be the one? Is it just to disconnect and reapply (maybe unplugging the home hub while I connect the nest doorbell so it finds only the Chromecast. I don’t know. I’ve been looking for this answer on and off for quite sometime. I believe the internet claims I can have it announced on all the devices I’m talking about. But maybe it can be done together….it just doesn’t specify. I would greatly appreciate any help if anyone has the answer.
