It's Friday, time for a little Bayou Josh.
Just as you can't wait to share your capture/ adventure with us, we can't wait to see your next capture/adventure.
😁
Whether we come home with a gem or not, it is the day spent together sharing a photo adventure that brings us pure joy. We get home and can’t wait to see what the other has captured. And, yes, I also take photos of my husband every time. Don’t know why or when it started, but I just do.
Well said! And yes, Katie has been taking a lot of images of me.
"What spark will ignite your next grand adventure ?"...The question we are continuing to search for an answer to !!!!! Keep searching, my friend and stay safe !
Not a bad thing to be searching out. Thanks brother. You too.
We are like a big photographic family. Mom always liked you best!
😀
The only thing about your videos that I like more than your photography is watching you and Katie together. Your relationship reminds me of my wife and me on our road trip photography adventures. Even when things don't go as planned, we have fun just being together.
Wow, thank you!
That is so sweet. We do have a lot of fun. We get along very well @ 99% of the time. LoL I think that’s a pretty good percentage.
I am so delighted to see others coming back home emptyhanded after a photowalk. :)))))) Kidding! You are great, like always.
I'd say that is kind of the normal series of events lately. Empty handed about 75% of the time with a few good days mixed in. but that will soon change. Seasons. 😀
I like to get out and enjoy nature first, getting some great shots is good also, but not necessary for a good day. I wish you and Katie many happy days out shooting.
Thank you so much David. It is a perfect excuse to get outside.
You are so right. We always say if we don't see a single bird or take a single photo- we spent time outside together and that is always a win.
I can feel the artistry and craftsmanship of this video. As a landscape photographer i can relate.
Thank you Eddie. I sure do appreciate it my friend.
Flying duck is gorgeous!!!!
Photography is a way to get away from all the daily duty and stress and find to yourself and focus on the things you wanna frame and picture. It‘s like a meditation but you are out in the field, the street or in lost places. Next goal - get back to Rome and New York and discover again the beauty of these cities and frame it. Thank you for this video. Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪
It really is a form of meditation. Well said.
Oh wow, I would love to go to Rome! That sounds like a dream.
@@buttonlover86 👍
Time out in the country is always time well spent, whether I get any good shots or not. We have to keep things in perspective. Enjoy your channel.
Well said! Thank you Scott!
Another fantastic video from Josh. My wife loves seeing me go to bird. Wouldn't be caught dead in the field. I've tried. You are very fortunate.
I am so fortunate!!! that is a fact. Katie is awesome.
"How many pictures have you actually taken with that camera?? Maybe 12, but I have take several dozen of you."
Josh, you're the consolation prize!
😃
He's my favorite subject. :)
@@buttonlover86 LOL!!
So calming, so sweet, and most of all... so insightful!
Thank you so much Alan. Hope you enjoyed it.
I love your storytelling each week. It brings a smile to my face. Perhaps that's one of your goals!
that is the main goal. smiles. I measure the success of the video by smiles. 😉😀😃
The journey is the destination and it helps to have someone beside you. Nice video.
So true! Thanks Bruce!
I'll be looking forward to that video a couple of years up the road where again you'll say, "Does equipment matter if you don't know how to use it?" and Katie is there showing you how to change that setting. We all laugh, but we know, it will happen. Great to see you sharing and enjoying all this natural beauty together.
🤣
I hope I get to that point one day. I need to spend a lot more time on it.
Hey Josh, I am a new follower, I must say I find you videos a breath of fresh air. There is no BS just honest pure passion. Looking forward to your next post. From a fellow wildlife Nikon shooter. 👍
Thank you so much Adam. Glad you decided to tag along. 😀
Your philosophical slant on this great hobby/passion is the best I have heard. While you specifically told that story this time, it actually resonates with me every time I tune in to view your latest content. I think that is why I felt connected the first time I found your channel. Thank you for sharing.
You are very kind sir. Thank you so much.
Proud to be part of your community
Thank you so much. That means a lot.
Enjoying the narrative style of your latest videos
I sure appreciate it Zack.
Really great advice Josh! 👌🏾 Whenever I want walk around the neighborhood to shoot photos, my mom always comes with me on my little adventures to support me. Getting more support, also helps you improve in photography.
that sounds wonderful!
I really enjoy your content. Your focus is exceptional. 🤣😂🤣😁 Seriously though, your passion for the hobby and the subjects (both birds and your wife) really shows in your videos.
Thank you so much David! We’re having a blast.
I totally agree. Sometimes when I go to a new place I find myself being overwhelmed by everything around me, and I need to go somewhere else and then come back to be able to focus on the best shots.
Indeed!
I absolutely love watching your content. Long time viewer since you started your channel 2 years ago. The message that it's not always about the results but the journey really resonates with me and I'm sure we all need reminding of that sometimes in the photographic community.
I’m so glad you enjoy it James. Thank you.
TGIF! Love seeing you on your adventures. Katie seems to be coming along great with her A7iv
She’s loving it!
@@BayouJosh i had that lens once but had to sell it. It was pretty good with the a9 but wondering how it is with the 7iv or A1. And does it compare well with the 500 pf and z9?
Another AWESOME VIDEO!! Thanks man you are truly passionate about what you do!! Nice to see your wife grab a camera and start gettin in on it. THOSE THAT PLAY TOGETHER STAY TOGETHER ....
Thank you my friend. We sure do love hanging out with each other.
Great video! I discovered your channel a month or two back and it has inspired me to revisit photography. Thanks!
That is the best thing anyone’s ever said to me! Thank you so much. Glad you found a little inspiration.
Fantastic. I so enjoy watching you ... both of you. That shot of the duck coming out of the water at 2:22 was AMAZING. I'm also looking forward to seeing more of Katie's work as she becomes more comfortable with the new gear. And yep - you've got the priorities nailed. Hope you both have a great weekend. Cheers, Ched
Thank you so much Charles. We have so much fun together.
Thank you so much, Charles. I am very hopeful that I will get some decent footage for Josh to use. I try very hard and he is very complimentary to me. My settings are off more often than not, but I am improving.
So good - as usual it feels like your reading my mail. Thanks, Josh!
I do read you mail. 😆Thank you so much Jen.
I'm diggin' that matching look.
We are a couple of nerds. We’re having fun though.
Great video and storytelling as always Josh ! Have a nice weekend :) Ronny
Thank you Ronnie! You too my friend.
Love this video. You and Katie seem a lot like Leslie and I. Leslie is the one who keeps my feet on the ground and my ego in check. :) Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Jeff. We’re having a good time. 😁
@@BayouJosh That is a very good place to be.
So very true Josh, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Todd.
Love your new intro! You nailed it again, man.
Thanks brother. Good seeing you out of the park.
Chris Stewblue made that intro as a gift for Josh which was so sweet and lovely of him. 😀😀😀
Some really nice photos today. I enjoyed them. Thank you.
Thank you Edward. I appreciate it.
Cheers Josh, thanks for the video! Keep up the great work
Thanks for watching Sean. 😀
If I came home with a camo jacket for my wife, or tried to give her one as a present …🤣, let alone personalized with “she”, I think she’d have me shot, drawn and quartered. She’s supportive and sometimes will come out with me, particulalrly if I can find the owls (and she’s even taken a few pictures at times too) but I can elicit a lot of good-natured eye rolling in her when I’m all kitted out and rarin’ to go. Katie is a keeper, Josh…as if you didn’t already know. Some great points in this video. Enjoyable as usual.
😂 "shot and quartered" that is hilarious. trust me, I was surprised when she pulled that coat off the rack. She's undoubtedly the coolest person I know. Thanks as always Marcus.
Awesome video Josh. I'm glad my wife is the who and we share the same hobby.
I always smile when I see you and Sandy out photographing birds. Thank you so much Rob.
My favorite focus is when I can go out with my youngest taking pictures, Even when we go out and nothing goes as planned its that time together doing something (or attempting to do something) that we both enjoy.
That sounds like a dream!
One of your best episodes ever Josh, thank you! No "Nikon Z9" in the title, I was not expecting this from a secret Nikon ambassadeur... ;)
Well thank you my friend. Definitely not a Nikon ambassador. That would be nice and I’m certainly a huge fan.
Fantastic video, love the why, who what questions. I think I need to revisit these questions ever so often!
Thank you so much! It’s fun to keep a little perspective. It’s not always about the gear and the gadgets. 😃
That’s life. Life too short do what makes you happy. Life is adventure. I love nature which makes me love to take photos. I’m not a pro but I don’t care I will keeps taking photos. Photos that will give me memories that makes me happy. Thank you for videos. You have a very nice wife supporting you. ;)
Indeed Robert. That’s life. Thank you sir.
Awesome video Josh! Thanks for sharing!
thank you my friend.
Thanks for another great video. It says it all.
Thank you for watching 😊
Go Katie go … we need to see some of her work as well :) Love your work Josh of course but maybe spotlight , guest photographer and partner in crime … drumroll , Katie !
All of the owl pictures were her. Except for one maybe. I need to start labeling his and hers.😂
Patricia, you are so sweet. I think josh feels a lot more natural and comfortable with a camera on him, but I am working hard on that.
Thank u Josh! Really can't wait till you get the new nikon 400mm f2.8 S!
I’m excited about that lens as well. I can’t wait for it to get here.
Well done.
Listening to your video today in some ways reminded me of Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy, an old SNL skit from the 80s & 90s. But very inspirational.
Grew up on deep thoughts. Loved those skits.
Another awesome video Josh. Love your matching camo jackets. Next matching adidas sweatsuits. Lol.
Deal!😆
@@BayouJosh I do not think I can pull off a sweatsuit, but if you are game, you know I'm on board. Pink? I'll go get them tomorrow.
Thanks for share - Love the outfits.
We match. 😂
Dang Josh!! Another awesome video!!
Awe! thank you Jerry.
Another great video Josh! (It's iso the second pronunciation as it's not an acronym). I never mentioned her in my comments but kudos to your wife!! Not many wives are patients even to let you take a proper shot ("you're still not done hun??? Com'on get going with it"), let alone taking up photography like she did! As to the why, I think we all have our reasons but I think a good deal of uf do it for the journey of discovery and as we discover the word we discover how we see it/perceived - in short how we are.
thank you so much Enrico. that is a great "why" 🙂
Nice video Josh. Enjoy your content, keep it coming...
thank you Leo. Will do.
Nice insightful stuff. My who is my spouse as since I started WLP she discovered her wonderful talent for color pencil drawings of my photographs transferring birds and butterflies to a different medium is therapeutic for both of us. This has lead us to plant a pollinator attracting garden which is also satisfying and brings new subject matter to our backyard. Keep up the wonderful narrative.
Oh wow! that is wonderful Martin. she sounds like the talented one. 😀
I wish I was better at art! My attempts at drawing birds have not been great.
I like your videos, the vibe is awesome
Awesome! Thank you.
Once again a great video. I love the reflective and immersive quality of your storytelling. I often find myself getting lost in your videos and they make me think about how I go about my own work. Looking forward to the next one!
Wow Jason. that's about the nicest thing anyone has ever said.

Very insightful video today, Josh. 👍
thank you my friend.
Hi Josh, I always have been thinking about these what you say and my wife told me exact words, and is not about money, but it is about myself and that's it! Cause I spend lots of money on photography equipment and many times just to be happy with this... She said; All what you do, do it for yourself and be happy!
always great content, Josh!
Thank you so much Dave.
Always enjoy your videos; refreshing, thoughtful and with take away lessons.. thank you for taking the time and effort to produce all the amazing footage, photograph, content with depth, editing and so on, all to share your passion to fellow photography enthusiasts & birder !

Lovely channel, I enjoy watching your channel-fabulous content, keep up the great work dude.
Thanks a ton!
Hi Josh, thank you for a very insightful video on your why who and what. I’ve done a few talks on my motivations and love of birds & photography and your video was beautifully done and helped me get some of my thoughts organised, thank you. All the best and brilliant photographs, Simon
That is wonderful Simon. I’d love to hear one of those talks one day. I appreciate the kind words.
You never really "Strike out" though. You just don't always get the "Home Run"
Love ya brother. Outstanding wisdom. I often share this hobby with my own community as well as with my two daughters, and that is my "Home Run" when I don't get anything portfolio worthy.
Cheers friend.
It is such a wonderful hobby that offers beautiful moments even when "success" eludes us.
Great video Josh, again the ability to share your passion with someone who supports your drive for improvement and enjoyment is wonderful. Keep your great content going, Ted
I appreciate that! Thanks Ted
I love your snappy new video lead-in! Also love the message to enjoy the place and time, regardless of critter sightings (or lack of).
Thank you so much Barbara. I farmed that intro out to a good friend of mine. He’s much better at editing than me. My good friend Chris Stewart.

oh goodness. so glad I can be an escape from that. take care!
@@BayouJosh Thank you! You too 🙏🙂
your channel is underrated
I appreciate you saying that.
Another great video, I like the logic behind this one! Got a 2 week trip to Shetland planned in summer then a week on the isle of mull. So I have my plans :D with the mrs, so I have my Who!
That’s the most important part 😁
Where is the Isle of Mull? Are you in Scotland? Oh, is it so beautiful there? Do yall have a lot of songbirds there?
@@buttonlover86 Isle of mull is just off the west coast of Scotland. Has eagles, otters and red deer. Its not too big an island so likely hood of seeing them all is very high. In the rest of Scotland we have quite a few songbirds, I think the crossbill and crested tit are unique to here. The Highlands (especially cairngorms national park) is amazing for wildlife as you are further away from dense population.
@@TheNonsenseAdventures it looks like such a beautiful place from the movies that are filmed there. And I love the accents! And the culture. There are only a few other countries I’d love to visit. Scotland is on my list. :)
@@buttonlover86 well when you make the trip over. Let me know and I can see if I can meet for a day or 2! 😊
Again excellent content and excellent advice at the same time. Really good video with great atmosphere again, thank you very much!
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you,
Great video Josh. I was just out today taking pictures of birds and wild life. It is always a challenge to get the settings correct depending on the situation. And its even worse when you find out you had a slow shutter speed when tracking birds in flight, the entire sequence gets deleted!! But still a great day!!!!!
That sounds familiar. That is still something I deal with on occasion. I am photographing something in a dark area then a bird flies by in the light and you can’t switch settings fast enough. 😀
I am so glad to hear I am not the only one who struggles with that. I took about 50 pictures of a Saw Whet owl with slow shutter speed- big time blurry. But the good news is I did realize my error and had time to get a few in focus shots. The little owl was not going anywhere and did not seem to care one bit about me. :)
Another excellent video, My sentiments exactly. I have felt the same love for birds and birding since I was a kid listening to my father explaining his love and knowledge of birds. Even though I have thousands of bird shots on my Flickr page my skills pale in comparison to yours even with some good kit. I am so excited for the bird migration this year and can’t wait to find myself at Tawas Point Michigan looking around with a childlike glee at those amazing little creatures.
Wonderful! I know that feeling. Migration is coming. It is such an awesome hobby!
Joshua- YES! The childlike glee is what gets me out at the crack of dawn in freezing weather. We love it. We have been searching high and low. Spring can't get here soon enough! :)
Thank you!
thank you! 😀
Hi Josh, more food for thought, thanks mate, I love all the thought that goes into your videos.
Could you please let me/us know where you get your camoflague photography/hunting jackets?
Thanks mate and keep them coming. ..
thank you so much Bruce! We purchase all of our camouflage from Cabela's here in the US. I get asked that a lot and I should probably set up a link for everyone. 🤔
At 3:08. "Why did you just spend a month's salary on camera equipment"? Fell out of my chair.!!! LOL
Because it’s true right!
@@BayouJosh I fell out of my chair because that's not "why" I Iove photography. That's more a "what".
Cool video Josh! I guess to sum up my entire photography journey is to say I just love getting outdoors and shooting God's wonderful creation. I'm not looking to start a business or anything, I just do it because like you I love birds and all other animals..And I always say that if I ever lose that child like excitement of getting a shot of a common Mallard to a rare bird that happens to migrate into my area will be the day I sell my gear..I don't ever see that happening though..it's like my bass fishing, when I catch a big largemouth I still get just as excited as I did when I caught my first one and to me that is what it's all about!
that is wonderful!!!
You are exactly right about that. I get just as giddy over the finches, sparrows, and juncos in my backyard as I do over rare species. :) As a matter of fact, I even love the squirrels that keep EMPTYING my bird feeders even though I put up special squirrel feeders just for them so they would leave the birdseed alone. Josh says I am contributing to the squirrels' obesity problem. They've doubled in size since we moved in.
@@buttonlover86 👍
@@buttonlover86 I'm guilty of putting some squirrels in need of Jenny Craig...lolol
@@bassangler73 have you seen those obstacle courses that people build for squirrels in their backyard? I’m thinking I need to make it a lot more difficult for them to get the food.
Nice! :)
Thank you Mike
Just like little kids at the end, throwing big rocks and watching them break thru the ice. Good times.....
We will never grow up! 😂
We did that for a VERY long time. LoL it’s fun throwing tiny rocks that bounce and make noises on the ice. We saw a Coke can rolling across the ice. It was making the craziest noise that echoed a mile! Took us a while to figure out what was causing the sound. I never knew the sound of cracking ice on a lake. We love it.
Was that first clip of you showing your wife how to work the AF or move the AF point? Been there, done that. Loved this video. Joy and passion defines the brotherhood/sisterhood.
You nailed it. 😄
I feel bad because I’m always accusing him of changing my settings but I accidentally push a button that changes everything. I’m struggling with the AF even though it should be simple.
@@buttonlover86 Marianne, my wife, is learning her new Canon. I tried to convince her to get a Nikon - so it would be easier for me to “help” - but she insisted. So now, when she finds something isn’t quite right, we try to figure out her camera together. It doesn’t help that Canon does everything upside down, backward and in French, at least the way I see it. But it’s sure fun being out together.
@@brianlemke6017 that’s how Josh feels about my Sony. Everything is so different but he’s a much quicker study when it comes to cameras. I was luck to run into a fellow Sony user today and she helped me fix the problem. Do you and your wife post your photos anywhere? I can go check them out.
@@buttonlover86 Marianne doesn’t post ….. yet. Although I’m encouraging her to post some of her street shots from our recent day trip to Victoria - they’re terrific. I post on a few groups on FB - Nikon Mirrorlesss, Nikkor Lenses, Nikon D850, Canadian Backroads Explorer, Calgary Birds and Bird Fanatics Vancouver Island. We live in Calgary but are very fortunate to have a second home in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, so I’m lucky to find birds in both places.
But I don’t hold a candle to your guy.
Very cool Josh...curious question why did Katy decide on the Sony 100-400mm lens vs the Sony 200-600mm? And How is Katy enjoying her new camera and lens. Always look forward to your next video.
Katie told me her number one priority was weight. The 200-600 was a little too heavy for her. Her friend has one and she had a chance to hold it for a bit. She loves the camera but she needs to spend more time with it for sure. she is still learning and figuring things out. Thanks as always Cesar.
What is it about us going to a body of water and picking up rocks to get a splash? Don’t know but my wife and I were doing that just a couple of days ago. Had it not been for her pointing out certain scenes at the river I’ve have come without images. But we got those and some fun near the water.
We sure do love throwing rocks.
is that a new intro?
BTW its really nice and great video as always :)
Yep! new intro from my friend Chris "Stewblue" I think he nailed it. I appreciate it my friend.
@@BayouJosh you're welcome and I didn't expect you to actually answer which is really cool, because I look up to you and think that you're one of the greatest photographers
You should make your "Who" a separate channel 😉. To get a different perspective 💚.
that would double my workflow because she won't edit those videos 😂 I think you're on to something though. Maybe one episode from me then one episode from Katie.
@@BayouJosh That would be great.

1. I love birds
2. Who I share with my photos, my wife

Have you already taken pictures from Katie?
There were only a couple of decent ones for this video. A squirrel and I think maybe one of the song sparrow ones. I took so many bad shots, honestly. Blurry, busy backgrounds, bad light… I’m working on it. 😀
BUT I did get some good stills and video of Josh. 😀
