Why,oh why should OP have let anyone know how much she makes? What's it to anyone else but OP? What business is it to anyone else? I am danged sure that no-one else deserves to know what I made throughout my working life, family, friend or foe. OP can intimate how much money they are willing to spend on their parents. This will also depend on their earnings, and the parents MUST understand that if they start quibbling the amount,OP is just as able to stop sending them money ,as they are able to stop it! Keep your earnings to yourself,OP, it's a good rule of thumb NOTto let relatives know your income!!!! 'Nuff said!
In the US children aren't required to support their parents, so I'm wondering what the parents' heritage is. (China has laws where children can be required to support their parents.) But these parents messed up big time with OP. If OP has any obligation to a relative, it's the aunt.
Op doesn't owe anyone any explanation about how much you earn. Your brother now earn double so he is ok and can save before your parents bleed him dry the selfish people. OP you don't owe nothing unless you want to, but i wouldn't.
It shouldn't matter what OP chose for employment... the parents should be proud of them and if they had done one iota of research... they would know how successful photographers can be... *They* chose to dismiss it so it's their own fault.
Parents could have just asked to see sufficient financials when help was first offered if the refusal of help was based on worrying kid couldn't afford it.
Defamation, emotional distress, a lawyer absolutely would waste their time on that
