My first experience was in dark souls 3, when I was playing COD. I had no idea how to play, and I tried for 3 hours and gave up for a year, and then tried again, and won after 4. I made my way to firelink shrine, attacked Hawkwood the deserter thinking he was an enemy and got myself stuck for another 3 hours. The souls series is my favorite of all time, and it all started there.

After another 2-3 months i started new again and this time i beat Capra second try, and that's when i fell for the Souls-series. I completed DS1 a few times, then DS2 a few times. my first experience with dark souls. i had just been broken up with after a 5 year relationship, i was super depressed and had no motivation to do anything. i took the game up as a challenge, something to overcome. i had always heard how it was very hard and i thought it would be a good confidence boost if i were to beat it (kinda cringe but whatever). i loved the level design and the way it relied on general gaming knowledge but also subverted normal gaming expectations of how things should work. seeing anor londo for the first time was an absolutely mind blowing experience. probably the best feeling ive ever had in a game. when i finally beat gwyn i chose to link the fire, and toward the middle of that cinematic my game crashed. i missed out on the ending song unfortunately. went back and beat it in ng+ a couple weeks later with the DLC and everything. i got a dark souls tattoo a couple years later, a darksign in thin outlines on my right forearm. dark souls serves as a permanent good memory for me, and will always be a reminder of the things i have overcome

My first experience with souls games was Demon's Souls when I was still a child, I was 8 years old in fact. At the time, I wasn't really good at games so I never actually left Boletaria, even though I probably played it for at least 10 hours and still enjoyed it. The thing I liked to do the most though, was not actually playing the game, but reading the wikis and helping my uncle when he got stuck (that's probably how I started learning English, it's not my native language), this kind of shaped me as a gamer, to this day, I still play my games with the help of wikis and trying to minmax everything.
I didn't beat Demon's Souls at that time. My interest in the franchise (it wasn't one at the time) died a bit until Dark Souls was released and my interest reignited. After beating Dark Souls, I had to go back to Demon's Souls to conquer the monsters that I feared back then. I then went on to play every souls game (but Sekiro) and, for each one of them, I have special memories I hold close to me.

My first experience was Dark Souls 1. It was almost a spiritual experience overcoming the hurdles, finding new areas and seeing how the map was pieced together. The sense of discovery is unmatched to me even now. It was hard (and still is) for me to play non souls-like games after playing Dark Souls, it changed my entire gaming worldview.

My first souls like experience was bloodborne, the game was free on the ps plus, the theme of the game stood out to me as i love that aesthetic, the music, the dark and eery atmosphere combined with my lack of knowledge about the souls games made me want to jump right into it.
At the time I had NO idea what a souls-like was, but right as I jumped into the game I knew that it was different from anything I had previously played, no tutorial, no help, nothing. It was a hard game to learn, I was also much younger than I am rn, therefore it was also scary, each step I took in Yharnam was an act of bravery to be fair, the enemies, the maze like level design, all of these factors combined made bloodborne extremely suffocating yet enjoyable to me, after many attempts I got to the cleric beast, I failed many times and then I found out about consumable items, molotovs to be more specific.
I attempted the boss once again, used all of my molotovs and ALMOST killed the beast; knowing that my next attempt would be much harder without the help of fire items, I dropped the game, it was too much for me back then. Years later I came back to the game and I loved it, it was much easier than last time for some reason, and after beating bloodborne I bought Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 1 and Elden Ring, in this exact order.

My first Dark Souls experience was a playthrough with my buddy and his brother.
At first, it seems the experience is ruined because I ran through with people who knew all the secrets and the game would be too easy. However the way they walked me through the game was absolutely enjoyable and immersive. They would literally just follow me and tell me lore about certain areas. They only shared secrets or hidden paths unless I asked or it was necessary for an important item.
I did a playthrough on my own at the same time, but playing it for the first time with friends in the way they introduced me to the World and community was an incredible experience.

It was only until 2 years later until I returned and I found out the cemetery isn’t the only pathway. I was playing with my two friends Casey and Brandon who also never played dark souls and we both shared our experience as we played, all cheering as we make it to a new area, finding a new item, discovering the bosses, and seeing who could beat each areas boss first. It got me to get Dark Souls two which was the first one I beat. It gave me the courage to go back and beat the first one. I was able to beat it after talking to some homies who suggested using magic or pyromancy. That and finding out I could get the black knight weapons helped me coast through the game. I started off with DS3 and it was a hell of an experience. I heard somewhere that it was a "hard game" which somehow drew me to it. It was also one of my first full size games all in all so it really defined my taste in video games. I took about 95 hours to beat the game with countless struggles and many bosses that were a big roadblock but I pulled through in the end and loved it.
Also I played with mouse and keyboard because I didn't have a controller and didn't think it would be much better (lol)

Ds1 was the most beautiful experience of my life.
I was obsessed with every corner of map area and lore
I consumed every media related to that, I used to sleep and start thinking about what I would do next or what have I done, basically reciting it every day before sleep.
If this sounds insane... I have a severe anxiety issue that doesn't allow me to sleep due to really dark thoughts about doom and worst possible scenarios whirling around my head when I go to sleep.
Dark souls allowed me to divert my mind to this game lore and beautiful vistas just immerse myself into the game world, from the reality that became too real most of the time.

(beside my brother telling me a unique location which was the rug to teleport to archdragon peak and he also convinced me at SL 25 to kill Emma which led to the dancer fight) took me 2 months to finish the game. holds a special place in my heart.

My first souls experience was Ds1 on the switch. I borrowed it from a friend and played it for hours struggling and since it was on switch it wasn’t the greatest way to experience the game. My friend decided to let me keep the game since he also sucked. I put the game away for years until I decided to play it again, and I finally beat it. It was amazing I had never experienced a game that killed me over and over and had kept me coming back like darks souls. Now I have beaten the game three times and also beat DS3. Thank you dark souls you will always have a special place in my heart.

Only then i discovered that u actually have to go left instead of right and completely fell in love with the entire series. Have thousands of hours in the games nowadays.

My first experience was DS1, after a long time I killed Asylum Demon and made it to Firelink just to miss the intended path and go directly down the Catacombs, needless to say I felt like "Souls really is as hard as I keep hearing" and got so frustrated that I put the game down for almost a whole year.
Picked it up with a friend after that hiatus and in classic controller switching after a death we beat the game without any guides after a few weeks, to this day I hold these memories and am so glad I got into the series

My first souls game was the original Demon's back in 2009. I used to browse Gamespot and saw their glowing review and then later-on game of the year award that they gave to it, filled me with tons of hype.
Got it the day after Christmas, couldn't put it down for months if not years afterward. Told all my friends, got them into the series. Now we all play and love the Soulsbornesekiring series to this day.
For some more context...what initially drew me to the game was the multiplayer. The thought of being able to just...do the best parts of any game with my friends, or fight them with cool weapons/magic was nothing short of mind blowing for me. I still can't believe how well it worked and formed the groundwork for every game to follow.
The difficulty was also contentious, but I wasn't deterred because the thought of being able to "conquer" each boss and area with my friends either by sharing knowledge or just...directly helping was so much fun.
I think Dark Souls 1 ended up taking my longest playtime at the end of the day (you can blame pvp in the township for that), but Demon's will always remain one of my most favorite and most nostalgic gaming experiences of all time.

I first discovered and played Dark Souls on PC way back in like 2013. I had just gone through a tough break up and this game challenged and consumed me in a way a game never had. And I have spent hundreds of hours modding and playing TES and FO and GTA SA. But Dark Souls was such a different beast. The challenge, the level design, the absolute lack of instructions on what to do and where to go haha...It sounds corny but it kind of changed my life. The sensation and joy you feel from learning, mastering, and beating the game (parried Gwyn with a flawless final boss fight after dying to him about 20 times lol) was like nothing I had ever experienced in gaming. AND it introduced me to BERSERK!!! WOW What a great bonus, right?! Miyazaki deserves a Nobel prize.

My first souls experience was DS3 on the first week it released, it was when I discovered this beautiful franchise and was a very dark time in life. Back then, my family had issues and I had some hardships that put me in a deep depression that took 1 and a half years to heal. Healed, thanks to Dark Souls it is.
I bought the game and entered the unused guest room in my house that had the xbox. You know how unused rooms have a distinct smell to them, more like a scent. It always reminded me of the game. Here is my painful first playthrough though.
After playing for a few weeks and getting my claymore to +3, I had to stop playing because of some family issues again. I returned about 2 months later and totally forgot that you can upgrade your weapons. I really went through most of the game with a Claymore +3 and an unupgraded Fume, my first playthrough was thus, hell. But I enjoyed so much because it was my escape from reality. I strived for every boss and tried for days but enjoyed every last bit of it. I started reading about the lore and watching videos. I was in love with this beautiful world Miyazaki has created and the philosophy behind it. As I got deeper and deeper in the lore it got me into reading philosophy and there, I found answers to my problems. Learned to live with what I can't change, and changing what I can change until it surpasses what I can't, if that makes sense.
Also this is how I realized my weapons were unupgraded: I was on xbox and parents didn't let me buy xbox gold which enables multiplayer. So I never seen an invader in my playthrough up to this point and somehow I didn't had a recollection of a npc invader. I believe I passed through them all unembered because remind you, I died a lot with unupgraded stuff. I realized after I beat twin princes (my fav boss of ds3) it took me so much effort I mastered it in hours and hours of trying lol. I heard the game is difficult everywhere so thought it was how it is. Though when I was farming for something in undead settlement after that, Hodrick invaded me(I remember going nuts seeing an invader npc for the first time lmao) The damage difference was off the charts and felt weird because they are a player character and by that time the difficulty of the game started to get ungodly so I was thinking if I'm missing something so I searched it on the internet. May be hard to believe but was dumbfounded to rediscover andre.
I'm not typing this for 50$, just wanted to tell about my first experience. Don't include me in the roll please I really don't need it. I'm doing great as of now being able to live alone, and every time I visit my family's house, I enter that room I had my first playthrough in. I take in that scent of probably dust and old couch and hell yeah, it smells like dark souls to me.

most memorable thing about my first playthrough was probably getting stuck on OnS and traveling all the way to Ash Lake to farm twinkling titanite to upgrade my blacknight greatsword. My very first experience with a Souls game was Dark Souls 2. I used to watch hours of UA-cam content on Dark Souls before I started playing and i was hooked from the first video i watched. What pulled me in? The difficulty. Im a 38 year old gamer and I've been gaming since i was 5, ive played video games everyday that i could and both my parents encouraged it as they saw what video games did for me and to me (it sparked and opened up my creative mind). As i was saying, I have been gaming for a long time, i have played countless game titles and never felt a real challenge in games unless I played on the toughest difficulties and even then it felt like a walk in park so once i saw my first DS video and witnessed a new level of difficulty it was all over, Dark Souls was all i wanted to watch. Fast forward to Dark Souls 3. A friend of mine owned DS3 and when he would come over we played mostly multiplayer games but i would always end up wanting to watch him play DS3. I needed no more convincing and one day I walked into my local Game Stop, just to browse as i was pretty poor and couldnt afford much of anything at that time. Well my friend is a gem, a real rare gem of a person and he decided to buy me a copy of DS2, to me that was the equivalent of any rare special gift. It may seem small and not as special to some other people but it meant a lot to me. Lets just say when i got back home that day DS2 entered my PS and never left it for the first 600 hours of gameplay, i was instantly hooked, the depth of the level designs were astounding, the depth of every single character in the game and the fascinating Lore to everyone, it was like a Buffet for my mind. Now i compare every single game to Dark Souls. after beating DS2 and spending thousands of hours playing and making different characters with all different styles, I went back and played the predecessors, Demon Souls, DS1 and then i moved ahead to Bloodborne and finally DS3, needless to say there was 0 hesitation when Elden Ring launched. I am a true fan of everything Hidetaka Miyazaki is doing with this series of games, how he ties everything and everyone together. I really can't say enough about his games. DS has made me a better gamer all around. i have improved in every genre of video games that i play.

Dark souls 1 was a beautiful first experience for me. I was in middle school and my dads friend who was our neighbor bought him a copy of the game so he would give it a try. I had 0 clue what to expect. Probably was most interested in seeing him get crushed.. I picked up the game as well and we had both progressed through the together. We bonded pretty well over it. I would wake up early before school and think about playing when I got home. We even bought the wiki book from GameStop. Sure i died a lot but I was exploring and in love. From designing my character to learning how to unlock shortcuts and Logan’s spells. I built some of the most nostalgic memories in my life in this game and got to do it in a unique way. I would search for books in the library that even resembled the drug like addiction I had to the souls world. Was a souls OG ever since. And yes I finished my play though before my father lol. 22 now ✌️

I remember getting stuck in the painted world for a long time. I had come halfway through the game, and I still didn't understand any of what I was doing, or what I was failing to do. I decided to look up some stuff about the game for the first time, and finally learned about damage scaling and what all the numbers meant. This was hugely important for me, finally being able to do some decent damage. I abandoned my first character, using guidance online to progress through the game. This is also when I learned about lore youtubers, and just absolutely fell in love with the series. Now, I've played ds1-3, bloodborne, platted sekiro, and nearly platted elden ring. I had 3 major roadblocks in my first playthrough.
    1. I didnt know there was a side exit at Asylum Demon. Thus I spent about 2-3 hours beating him with the broken knive.
    2. In the sewers I managed to get cursed. Since I was an idiot trying to get the souls back, I manged to get cursed again. Which results in 25% max HP left. After that I gave up on the souls and rather began thinking. I remembered there was a vendor that sold an item that can cure it, but I didnt know which one it was. After a crueling journey out, I made my way to Oswald in the end.
    3. O&S took me over 8 hours to beat, since I never had to manage fighting multiple enemies. I also had to learn how to keep Smough away effectively using the pillars. Finally beating them was one of the moments in my life where I felt the purest joy and still is my best memory I associate when I think about gaming.
    1 NG+ roadblock:
I didnt manage to be good enough for the DPS check at Four Kings, even after multiple attemps. Thus I changed strategy after about 2 hours and went full Havel with Iron Flesh. First try with that strat.
I love Dark Souls and its successors.
I also believe that I as a person, got better by playing that game. I mean my patience, perserverance and mental tenacity got honed a lot. But who knows how much I can actually attribute to that, since I was in my puberty back then and one might hope to have some development in that regard during that time either way.

I haven’t thought about my first souls playthrough in a hot minute. My friend and I would play together, brainstorming and collectively working our way through the game, helping each other on bosses we found difficult. I remember mainly fat-rolling, using the zweihander, grass crest shield and giant set; my friend would mid-roll while using the halberd, grass crest shield and wearing anything comical or fashionable. I remember the bosses I struggled on being Capra demon, Sif, O&S, four-kings and bed of chaos. My friend struggled on queelag, ceaseless, O&S, Seath and Gwyn. Nothing will compare to that first playthrough, it took about 60 hours and the fear I’d feel in that first half of the game was equivalent to that of a horror game. I wish I could go back and do it all over again.

My first souls was the wonderous DS1 in 2012 or so, after i heard from countless meme posts on reddit saying about how hard it is. I gave it try after the dlc dropped and boy i suprised of how hard it was. Not knowing where to go and everything wasnt spoiled. I learned through the world and never gave up. The combat was rough almost compared to Sekiro, as for learning how combat flow works. I lost countless souls and died countless times. The worst part of getting through the game was the capra demon to go to the depths. My god a small room that the dogs will gank you almost everytime was horrible. I wanted to quit but never did because i was so fascinated with the game. All of the bosses took so many tries but in the end it was worth it, and having the success to beating a boss you struggle with is truly amazing. Adrenline flowing. Heart pumping. Ever since DS1 i have played every fromsoft game excluding Demons Souls. DS1 will always be in my heart closely as well as Bloodborne.
