This video with its narative, the way is filmed, the tone of the voice, the inspiring personal insights, the calm and warm feeling… is in my opinion in top 1% of all watches related videos on the entire UA-cam! Congrats my friend!!!
It’s interesting to see how your preferences have evolved over time. Your experiences make your analysis more interesting and relatable. Perhaps 85% or more of my collection has been influenced by the durability of military type watches. The reliability and affordability of these are hard to beat for my needs and purposes. I do fancy an elegant dress watch every now and then. Something I would never have entertained a few years ago.
Beautiful video! If you're into boxy hesalite crystals, the Moonwatch might be a great choice for you! I wear a Chrono with plexi for nearly 35 years now (Sinn 103St) and still love it. In fact I'd chose hesalite over Saphir any time. And if you like non-flashy toolish dive watches I can highly recommend the Sinn EZM 3. Bead blasted elegance, great comfortable size 42/47/12,4mm), soft iron cage, 500m WR, good lume and a reasonable prize. I wear mine mostly on Nato straps and do not take off even when working in the engine bay of my car. Keep up the great work, I always enjoy your videos.
Excellent video. Interesting, honest and relevant. Thank you for sharing. The GO seventies panorama date was the first luxury watch I bought that stuck. It is so well made, such a wonderful 70s tv shaped case which I love and the fact that it’s from a relatively little known German brand made it all the more left field and thus appealing to me. I also love my explorer II and Sinn U50
The quality of you shots are on the top of the UA-cam game. Beautiful! In my watch journey, the most important watch was (and still is) the Tudor Bb58 navy. This is in the size, the branding, the finition, the story, exactly what I want from quality dive watch. Due to this watch, I know new what I love, and what I prefer to avoid. The second one could be the Longines Avigation Big Eye, just because I'm not a fan of black dials or big watch. This one is both of that and still, I love wearing it for 1 year now. So with this watch I now that my taste can change, or at least be more flexible than what I thought. Greetings from France !
Thanks for this great vid! I could not see myself going the Rolex Explorer route for the very same reasons. I went with the new Hanhart Preventor HD12 with its reinforced steel (1200 vickers on case, 1000 on the bracelet) with it's unassuming base Sellita SW200-1 (but a true no date version without ghost crown position and regulated 6 positions). What a beast. Worn every day for two months, from desk to datacenter tasks, car mechanic... and yet no scratches, no ding and no afterthought. Plus the design language is very relevant for my tastes, big numbers, nice lume... a field watch with pilot watch elements and very durable materials for less that the third of the Rolex Explorer. With better WR. What a steal! Bought by my wife to celebrate our future child, it has become an ubiquitous element of my everyday life. Cheers!
@@encol7953 Thanks mate! Appreciated :) The 417ES, more especially with the bund strap, sits a LOT higher on the wrist, especially if like me, yours is a rather flat 16cm circumference one. As I already have a vintage 7765 chronograph from my father, I went the GADA way ;)
@@l0p4r Thanks for your input. Watch height of the 417ES is a factor I’m aware of even with my 18.25 cm wrist. Granted the Preventor is the more versatile of the 2 watches which translates to more wrist time which justifies the cost. With 47 watches in my collection and 2 watch boxes holding 48 watches in total, one of these Hanharts will be my “final” purchase…I think (gulp)… :) If I end up choosing the Preventor, I have to laugh at the irony that its superior versatility (which could easily satisfy a 1-watch collection), would make my other 47 watches obsolete!☺
@@encol7953 Pretty solid numbers here! With only a dozen in my collection, they are all waiting for some wrist time... but since four of them are inherited vintages, at least they are preserved of daily wear and tear and left only for special occasions. In all honesty, the next step in my horology journey is currently unknown, as I find this one so fulfilling and I cannot wrap my mind and heart about another brand right now. Hanhart's latest release with the Aquasphere is also a hit in my chart (look at the matte bezel and the red arrow of the second hand)... so I am thrilled for future releases!
You’re 100% right. Watches are a very personal thing and the idea of a “ultimate grail watch” that everyone must own and want is unrealistic. For me, Type 20 watches make me feel things that a Rolex submariner could never. I always die a little inside when I see a vintage Breguet type 20 on my feed.
Where to start. Years ago I purchased a Rolex Date/Just ended up with a Explorer II which I love. But felt it wasn't me. Started collecting watches recently and ended up with 4 in week: Seiko 813, Bulova dress watch, Tissot GMT. Next will be a Seiko Alpinist (green face). And finally a Sinn which I want to go purchase in Germany, where I was born. This video put a big smile on my face.
The Certina DS PH200M Automatic with blue dial is still the most expensive watch in my modest but numerous collection, and it is by far my favorite. I threw mine on a nice thick Staib mesh bracelet and it's gorgeous. It's one of a handful in my collection that I'll never part with.
Thanks for sharing. For me, the Doxa sub200 T-graph, once I "got it", got my heart pumping, and I just had to have it. But honestly, lately I look more and more at Ali Express and brands like San Martin and Steeldives. Vostok too. I pretty much decided not to go crazy with prices. Made that decision after trying a Chinese fountain pen, of all things, and loving it. I paid €12 including shipping, and love it! If China wants to export deflation, bring it on and take my money. Jan.
I love my Explorer’s. The 124270 and 16570 are my ideas of perfection on wrist. As noted in another comment the 16570 is possibly all the watch you will ever need. Mine gets lots of wrist time putting in miles on mountains. I don’t sweat the scratches because I never intend to sell them. My son can sell them after I’m gone and they are his.
My soul watch and the one I can’t ever part with is the Breitling Colt 41mm blue dial with the “12” index. The A17313. My SMP 300 also shaped my love for divers, but it’s the Colt that has so much class and personality, it’s not even close.
Very nice! I got the 16570 too. Love how subtle it is. That being said, I’m saving up and selling some pieces to still get that bluesy which is one of my grail pieces 😅
I musta missed the value retention memo. I’ve been beating on my Explorer 1 and 2 for a while now! 11 years on the Explorer 2 and 4 years of very hard use on the Explorer 1. I think they actually look better with some patina on them! Who cares about resale!
My watches which open this rabbit hole was: Frederique Constant Art Deco, Longines Sprite Chrono, Longines Hydroconquest 41… Now I have many different watches modern and vintage, madness… 😅
I agree about modern shiny dressy divers. The first watch I bought when I got the watch bug was a Christopher Ward Trident. A very well made and great value watch but with mirror polished indexes and a relective ceramic bezel. I will probably sell soon as my taste has changed to less dressy, more subdued tool watches.
The steeldive Arnie changed my view on the watch industry for ever. How can a 80 dollar watch from aliexpress be so good. It makes no sense. So status is the onley thing that counts, and that's why the ridiculous prizes.
Pivot Point Watches Tiffany Atlas AG, Oris 65 Carl Brashear, Grand Seiko SBGA415 and CW Bel Canto Do you miss the joy of graphite on textured paper. I recall the days when you sketched that way. I know I do! Also, agree. Take a lot of self awareness not to follow the "group think" on buying now HOT Rolex or Tudor.
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the MAMACOO's watches are the most intriguing.
Very cool topic Andrei! Some very nice watches on here! Many of us cut our teeth on Seiko's. Certina though is quite left field for someone new to the hobby but man do they look good! You have fine taste my friend! Thumbs up on the Explorers too! I like you would choose Tudor over Rolex as well. Cartier, Choppard and the like is well suited to a gentleman like you! Thank you for sharing and hope you have a great day!
got my 1st Seiko 007 Dive watch at 19 fell in love dived daily for years until i discovered Citizen Aquamaster divers with Depth gauge :-) just bought the latest model.
No matter how successful I become I’ll have a Casio on my wrist, and maybe a few microbrands, and a Cartier Santos one day. Edifice is my go to, perfectly daily beaters, and they look phenomenal.
Cool video, I got a save the ocean tuna then went on a Seiko and Japanese dive watch shopping spree. Got a couple of swiss divers but they don't have the same charm.
Any watch that reminds me of the 1970ies grabs my attention. A much simpler era in my life that also comes with a smell of Tabac. Any watch that gets praised by the hivemind watch influencers makes me cold as ice.
I hate watches with 4 o’clock crowns. Would have bought an SKX ages ago, but I just couldn’t get past that feature. I have a Seiko 5 with a 3 o’clock crown

Why these days everything if it is not 39mm is considered "Big"? What about the classics like the SKX and many watches?. i think this trend is absolutely ridiculous.
