The best and most comprehensive information on using a chainsaw chain grinder I have come across on UA-cam. As a retired STIHL tech I've gone to many STIHL schools. STIHL does recommend the 10 degree tilt. It creates a compound top plate angle so as to roll the chip out. The side plate is as just as important to keep sharp. Again, great video!
Tell me this why do Stihl not really promote FL1 to FL5 progressive gauges. The attack angle on these gauges is around 6° the flat constant raker gauge will only give you a attack angle of 2.5° at end of life the witness mark when it should be around 6°
This is absolutely the best instructional and informational video I've ever seen on how to grind a chain. The in-focus close in video shots really make this better than any of the uncounted videos I've viewed on this topic. So much easier to understand when you can see the details.
Seeing as how the gullets main job is to have a place for the chip to go, the chain at end of life has more than enough room for chips. And a sandwich, and a juice container. Thanks for the info, very well put together.
Great training aids! Obviously you spent your time in preparation for this well presented video. Thank you for your hard work. This assisted me greatly
Wow. Deep dive loved it. Very helpful and asked/answered lots of my niggling questions. Even gave whole new use for spanner. Brilliant Kind regards & Thank you Ps FUN and informative
This is a really great channel to learn chainsaw chain and grinding tool. Thanks I found your channel! Very informative and comprehensive tutorials. I now subscribed! Wish you all the best with your channel and keep sharing free knowledge. Cheers, VARIETECH
The depth of cut is set by the raker depth. & that depth is generally. 025" to .028" deep! So that gullet you talk about isn't cutting wood, it is just a way to get rid of the wood that is already been cut. Maybe that gullet really doesn't need a cutting edge.
Yes correct teaching is very hard because have no script to read from . So can slip up and say a few things wrong then have to correct. Thanks for comment
Hi mate, very well spoken video! I'm in Australia - which brand is that grinder? And how much was it? I'm looking to buy one and do a few cash jobs at home but not sure which one to go, budget is 400ish. Appreciate any advice. Cheers
Billy ray uses crap old chainsaws. No safety gear on any of his gear. Needs to catch up with reality . He was grinding a husqvarna bar with a angle grinder the other day to get more oil to one of his shitty old school saws.

Great video! Very informative!
Only question I have is
Do you clean the chain before you grind it???
Dealer school's should just run this video. But practice is how you really learn.
