  • Welcome back to The Ultimate Tech Hub. On today's episode we will run an Cat6 Ethernet cable through the wall. Then we will connect that Cat6 ethernet cable to a Cat6 Wall Jack. We will show you how to make it look like a professional installation and it will cost you about $20. If you have any questions about this video please leave them in the comments down below. Thank you for being a part of The Ultimate Tech Hub Team and if you haven't Subscribed yet please do its free. And if you like this video give a thumbs up and share it. This is the typical procedure to punch the Category 6 network cable on to a Jack. If you are installing an Ethernet network in an office or home, you will need to "terminate" each network wire at the user end with a Category 6 network jack.
    Cat6 Wall Jack Installation Steps:
    1. Strip back the wire cover with scissors or wire strippers
    2. Break-off the portion of the cable jacket to expose wires inside.
    3. Check wires to make sure none were cut during the strip
    4. Cut off the string
    5. Untwist individual wires (sets of colored wires)
    6. Push all 8 wires into groove according to the key map
    7. Choose either A or B style for wire termination. B is the most common.
    8. Use either the plastic insert tool or a Punch-down tool to fully insert the wires into into the Jack.
    9. Removes excess wires with scissors
    10. Install dust caps on jack ( wire cover )

As a professional in the industry I can tell you that you never want to un-twist the pairs. Leave them twisted all the way to point of contact with the connector for best speed connection and more importantly for those longer distances.

Looking for my first house, and it seems like this guy installs outlets all over the place. Not levelled, and not in line with eachother if side by side. Takes two fucking seconds to measure it, but a good hour to take it off and patch the drywall.

If your new ethernet cable doesn't work check the way you've wired it. Both ends need to have the same wiring combination. There are two types of combinations, A and B. They are colour coded on the port.

Good video! Some advice - keep the twist going into the wall jack. Slightly untwist the cable pair where it needs to be separated & push it down with your fingers, before punching it down. The closer the twist of the 4x pairs is to the metal termination point, the better & more professional the work will be. A good cable certifier may not pass your current runs. The twist provides some basic shielding from external interference.

Quick question instead of having the open mount shown could you have 2 female wall ports?
For example if one of the cables ends up going bad because of various reasons you would need to redo the entire cable alternatively if you have 2 female ports the wire is 100% in the wall. You would need an ethernet cable to go from the wall to the router but it should still work right?
Wanting to confirm this before doing it.

Having pre-run wires is actually helpful since you can use those old phone lines as a makeshift fish tape (wire pulling tool). Hardest thing to do would be finding where those wires originate. Simply attach the new cable using electrical tape where it originates, go to where the original cable terminates and pull it out slowly. As it pulls out it'll take the new cable with it.
