The Merchant Automotive Duramax Diesel Sand rail was rolling coal at the 2014 Griztek snow challenge. It has a 700hp Duramax and a powerglide transmission. This Turbo Diesel Sand Rail was not at home in the melting snow but still did well to be underpowered. We hope to see the Merchant Auto Sandrail again soon.

I think for next year, he needs to lift up the front end about 5 to 8 inches, and put on a set of tires with a bigger steering blade in the middle. He's fast, but he was plowing the Hell out of the snow.
yeah it is setup for sand and the track took a beating
Lawrence German yup
Or loose 300 pounds
lots of HP but needs lot of suspension work obviously. sounds awesome tho!
it was doing good when it didn't have to plow through the snow
yup lol
That is one helluva trans-axle if it can stand up to that monster torque of the built D-Max!
Yota Steve no transaxle powerglide and a 9 inch looks like
Pornp2
Yota Steve I believe it’s got a power glide and some form of quick change third member
Way too low for snow. It would destroy on sand
Benjamin Kenney yeah its built for sand
I was wondering why they were calling it a sand rail
@@hunting1works 😄
Paddles in the snow sound like a magnesium party in the making
paddle do well there
Yes,I love the Duramax! It would be nice to see this machine in the sand.
agreed
Why is it that when ever I land on a video of complete automotive badassery, it's a busted knuckle vid ! Keep em comin man !
***** We try to bring the best! Thanks for watching
I have to try out the snow, that looks awesome.
That is the baddest machine ive ever seen ! The smoke stack is almost poetic
I dig it
Could be designed more for sand, but from the video it appears the front end needs to come up a little to clear the snow. Just my opinion :-)
RoboTekno designed for sand
the sound of an IL4 rocket motor bouncing off the limiter is just awesome.
***** IL4 rocket motor?
inline 4 crotch rocket motor.
Very well built !!
Keep roalling Coal !!!
Eli Mann #coallife
Diesel fuel comes from coal ?
Tim Jenkins No no no, rolling coal is what people say when diesels blow black smoke.
Can't unlock it's potential in that crap. It spent more time bashing through high spots while the other rigs were all built tall enough to just ride over it. Cool to watch, would love to see this in the sand.
+Big Dan truth
I like how you respond to all the comments in your videos. Subscribed.
Fiddle02 thanks, that is something I feel sets us apart from the rest
That first race you just had the worst side of the track. That thing is bad ass. If I could get half as good a motor for my Landcruiser swap I'd be a happy man. Great work.
Be a bit heavy in a land cruiser
Dam, seeing that thing in snow makes me cry. Go to the dunes then we will get somethin hard on yourself
Jake Elston Huh?
skies in front and a lightweight plastic skid plate to keep it from scoopin up snow into the air and he'd be golden
Justin S duramax snowmobile
BustedKnuckleVideo precisely
Is it direct drive?? or gears
gears
Fuel efficiency LEVEL OVER 9000
thomasRC TV and its fast
I would love to drive that down here in south Florida.
iwuzheree would skim across the top of the mud
That beast is INSANE! She would have been a lot faster if she could have hooked up in that wet snow. Skis would have been awesome. Beautiful rig, and would love to see it on the sand.
a little more ground clearance up front would have helped as well
RakinBill
That's true. She was pushing snow pretty good, if she was higher, I don't think the 4X4's would have been able to beat you.
Very bad ass! Front end needs a 2" suspension lift to keep from plowing sand....
agreed they filled them up as much as they could to help out
put slicks on the back and BAM drag sand rail
itd be bad
***** It says 700hp in the description... Nowhere near low 7's.
***** wheelie bar.... They make wheelie bars dude😑
I'm not really buying the 700hp either.
jfdb59 I bet it makes 700 easy
Best sand rail I've ever seen
Matt Beaudet its mean
Damn right
What type of axles are you running in the rear end
custom
What engine was the rail on the left in the first race running? Sounded badass...
VW?
Sounded like a Streetbike motor to me.
you cant get a better contrast than white snow with some nice black smoke O_o
+chris7jakarta agreed
The baby harp seals are crying for the global warming, their sad little faces just waiting to get their heads bashed in...and here you celebrate excessive and totally pointless pollution? Must be Trump supporters.
With all of that torque, it looks like the duramax is having a hard time getting the tires to hook-up... i'd like to see a sand run
it was hooking and booking, needed more clearance
@@BustedKnuckleVideo I can see that she's a beast. If you're going to run in the snow, maybe fab some sheetmetal skid in the front so it doesn't throw so much snow in your face. Something to try if you're not ready for some long travel suspension...
A small sledge between front wheels would rule plus slimmer larger diameter wheels on front!!! You'll half your Times almost I bet? Plus a lovely engineblock and performance!!! A+!!
yeah the track sucked
is that a lly duramax it would be bad if their was a powerstroke sandrail
Joseph Shaw i believe it is
For what does that camber work on the back wheels?
huh?
the front tires wanted to plow into the snow, so im sure it would have done better with wider front tires
+Keith or more travel
Keith that may have also been the only thing letting him steer.
More travel would be better as you have better steering with thinner tires
if someone made that all wheel drive that would be insane!!!
man that is freaking awesome but I would definitely do something with the front suspension. Too low and not enough travel.
the snow was a little too soft and rutted this time
Where can i get info on how this frame was built
From Merchant Auto
Goblin enginering at finest!
Heisā Hopsā goblin?
A frente é muito leve...
all it needs is a bit more travel in the front, or better shocks/coilover. those air shocks are killing it.
+g zimmermann yeah not made for the snow
+g zimmermann I think a skid plate up front wouldn't hurt either.
I've never understood why more people don't use diesels when building fun projects. Reliable, beasty, torque out the ass and they sound cool as shit.
I agree. I want to build an FJ40 rat rod with a Diesel.
need to run a compound turbo set up so the big one feeds the little one and helps with pick up and go factor
that might help
and ladys and gentlemans we show you the badass contaminator
+Trevor Roacho rollin coal #aintcare
Just made #1 on my wish list lol
Mr2500silverado Diesel sand dragster
sweet ride!!! shoulda used a powerstroke though
Domino Perk duramax makes more woopow
BustedKnuckleVideo ford is just all around better not hating on the rig
please tell me more info for the engine duramax
+Stanislav Novoselski duramax diesel 6.6 liter of soot burnout awesomeness
that one cart in the beginning banging the redline was a honda engine for sure
honda engine lol
hi ... whats the price of that duramax buggy ? i need one
No idea, i just videoed it
Fuck beautiful machine, i can only imagine the MPG and quickness
rolling all the coals
That thing is AWSOME!!!!!!!! P.S. I want one 😃😃😃😃😃
ill take 2
What are you using for a transmission?
Transaxle?
@@BustedKnuckleVideo any idea what transaxle. I'm building a street one but its looking like unless i spend 15k on a trans the gear ratios are going to be too high
Save yourself 40k and 15 seconds up the hill by buying a snowmobile....
lame, anyone can have a snowmobile
Sand rails are for sand. Sad as all hell when a 1983 340 Yamaha Enticer trapper edition would smoke it in a race.
Fuck yourself chuck!!!!! We need to do diffrent things.. Not play follow the leader pansy!!!!!
John Hinojos Damn, is this a “Chuck Roast”? 😏
Is that a LB7?
I believe so
Badass liking this ride
Not many diesel sand rails around
2:18 opel omega back seat?
Wow, that's pretty damn cool
rollin coal
BustedKnuckleVideo it sure was, just couldn't turn lol
needed skis on the front lol
i would say its to low it hits alot off snow on the front no?
nick craen not made for the snow.
tires are just a bit to small in front & tighten up the suspension
One bad ass "snowrail" however i gotta agree with evryone else....front end needs more height and suspension travel, but what do i know!
a long travel diesel rail would be sweet
Interesting build, but with all my experience with sandrails, Ive always been taught a light rig is better than a heavy one. And that engine is HEAVY. Sweet build but i think if i was going diesel i would have gone with a well built 4bt cummins, much lighter
they own a diesel shop so it makes sense
BustedKnuckleVideo
Yeah that makes sense to show off what you can build. I have no issue with what they built, i love seeing new and different things, and respect anyone who modifies and builds what they want whether it is muscle car, import, or off road rig. Im just saying a well built 3.9 4bt might have been a better choice for it power potential and its lighter weight. Love all your videos, keep it up
Is this the sand rail that crashed at silver lake?
not that I know of
LCH_Entertainment yes it is
What a handful! :-)
Its nasty
This guy needs some kind of upward scoop in the front to keep it from digging so much.
needs a skid plate or more suspension
Front end is digging. .use a semi-sled configuration to avoid plow.
its made for sand not snow
Sweetttt!
iwuzheree rollin coal making gray snow
Keep building them and beating them chevy power forever!
MrDjh66 Isuzu
I'm not familiar with sand rails but i can see a very bad handling.
it's pushing itself outside on the corners.
i would say it needs bigger tires and weight on the front.
Why so much camber on the rear end ?
Very nice engine
its not made to be in the snow so they made some modifications to try and help
It's an old school style sand rail. Emphasis on sand.
MegaLubomyr
Do you know why there is so much camber in the rear end ?
MegaLubomyr camber as in the lean of the top of the tire inwards or outwards. in the rear the tires are leaned hard to the outside. i believe positive camber
MegaLubomyr
Thank you.
Need some skid pad like on a jetski. So instead of hitting the snow and dragged, it wil slide over it like a butter.
good idea
Hell to the YES
Rolling Coal in the snow
ya that rail needs either about 6 inches higher or a killer sled plate on front and it would be WAY faster.
no doubt
I love it
That dirtymax is on point
Does this have a drive line?
Jorge Ortiz transaxle?
Yea
Front end to dam low
yep
That shit is fuckin badasss bro
Armando Acosta rollin coal
Seems awful heavy for that application, guess that's why you mainly see them in giant 4x4 trucks where the weights not an issue.. Looked like even half the low budget gassers walked away... I'd like to see or help someone rig up twin Hayabusa motors with one driving each rear wheel and equip it with electronic traction control fly by wire throttling control to provide vectored thrust by also adding in steering data and 6 axis electronic gyro stabilization! Then you would have something with an obscene power to weight ratio with some serious advanced handling characteristics never before seen! You could just leave it matted and steer where you want to go without fear of flipping while hitting it with everything possible to keep it just about to flip and keep you planted back in the seat... The electronics is there and dirt cheap, why nobody tries it is a mystery...
Twin Hayabusa engines would be awesome!
I'll donate my 07 Busa to your cause for 8,000$ only 10k miles too 😏😏😏
HA
U talk too much
They don't because booo hoo you're ruining it with electronics that make it go faster
Also you wouldn't want the engines running each wheel independently
Just merge them into one awesome v8 engine
Title says sand rail but all I see is snow. So its a snow rail? I'm confused
Call it what you want
That was a joke I know that beast has a tad more..but anyway that thing is gnarly bro.Bad ass.I bet it's a rocket in the sand
id like to see it in the sand
BustedKnuckleVideo I'd like to see the Filthy Thing in a lake - at the bottom. Not heard of the carcinogenic effects of particulates Bubba??
Fuck off! if you dont like it dont look at it, You dont got any good commnets to say then dont say anything,
yes we already know that plugs win races
MrJeremys2388 real rails dont have spark plugs
Put some EFI live on that dirty!
way soft in front
nic Car!
+Tobi Lang rollin coal in the snow
this thing is amazing
it was impressive
Lb7?? Or lly?
no idea, its an older video so it might have been an LBZ
this is the ULTIMATE HOOOOOOOOOOON mobile hahaha fucking awesome man.
Christopher ItsaderpXD Id like to see it with some drag slicks on it but bet that rear end wouldn't take the abuse
Isent it designed by Isuzu and built by gm?
In racing you can win/lose, have a good set up/bad set up, have a good track/poor track.
Notice how there wasn't a fun/not fun category this doesn't need explaining.
that would be hella fun
It's badass and all, but it's performance isn't quite what it's cut out to be and doesn't preform as well as I would have expected
When you run in the snow just throw wider tires on the front so it will float and won't plow snow, you would smoke those guys.
MrSigDan track was bad
understood
Every man's dream
ChrisBeBallin rollin coal in the snow
Great way to paint that snow BLACK...
more like grey
i saw this run about two weeks ago at kleinschmidts sand drags , it halls ass , not to great in the snow , way better on sand ................
***** i bet, i need to find it at another event
Kleinschmits in the spring , it's on the video from there on you tube
Nice. A lot of black soot being blown all over for no reason.
Because Race Car
why dont they put skis on the front
no allowed for this competition
Looks like the driver needed a spine transplant after that day of snow drags...
it was rough
Big kudos for getting out there, hell of a show.
not its typical terrain that is for sure

It's kind of ironic that diesel particulate is responsible for glacial snow melt!
blah blah blah
too bad global warming is a crock of shit cooked up by liberals that has been debunked so many times that even the libtards changed the name to "climate change" because of the current cooling trend.
Pull your head out, it's day time. I said nothing about global warming or climate change. It is a fact that diesel particulate due to the small particle size travels on the wind and lands on glacial ice turning them gray enough to increase there melting rate.
Just google it. NASA and the USGS
Gary Hutchins you can google anything and it will tell you what you want to hear it’s the government you fairy princess get your head out of your ass the government has done nothing but hide shit and the fact you think that is funny cuase it’s actually gas burners cuase diesel freeze and gas will melt practically anything some plastics foam so forth.. and there’s more gas burners driving more and more everyday and every diesel you see on here is most likely sitting in the drive way most of the day probably
lift and 4wd would make this thing nastyyy
no doubt
No intercooler???
+MrAmazingCow no need
+BustedKnuckleVideo because of the cold weather? Bc in everyday weather that would be really unhealthy for the engine
It's funny how everyone says "but it's build for sand". No. No it's not. That is what sand rails looked like in 1985. Sand rails started changing in 1995 and since 2005 have used long travel suspension, wider and taller front tires and have had significantly more ground clearance. Go to Glamis or Pismo and you'll still see relics that look like this, but they are not the ones that are winning competitions.
+Larz Its built for sand drags. not the sand dunes.
And you have it on snow.
Bear Grylls out of its element
bottoms out like every 10 feet lmao
combatarmsmaniac not made for the snow
those things cant turn for dear life and you make them race in curvy tracks? "stupid is as stupid does" i guess XD
you call that a curvy track?
JohnJaggerJack Huh??
