I'll be honest here, Initially, I was not your greatest fan for bending the Nexus 6p. This tear down video could have been out a little earlier to justify the bending videos (you did it twice to prove your point and I really appreciate that). Since that video was out, I started watching every single video of yours too see what kind of a channel you are trying to showcase - and I won't deny it - you have honestly changed my perspective about blindly trusting brand and their advertising statements. Jerry, thank you for doing what you do. You will get haters (who doesn't?), but I completely understand what you are trying to show to the audience here and it takes a lot of money, time, patience and what not to do what you are doing. Hats off man... Thank you for removing that blindfold for me.
+Ankur Gugar Exact same situation. What irritates me is that he is getting a lot of non justificated hate even when he is explaining and trying to get a comprensive point of view of why the phone bended / is not as good as it was believed to be, all this while being extremely polite and informative.
+ant123ps3 I completely agree with your point. He has stayed calm and tried to justify his point and truth be told no one else would have put in so much effort to prove their point as much as +Jerry did.
+Ankur Gugar agree 100%...other youtubers tried to bent this phone too, but without any effort, I saw one who tried to bend the phone with 2 fingers each side, and claiming that "the phone what jerry used it may be a prototype, or he already know where to bend the phone... because I didn't saw the huawei logo on the back(what an another youtuber said) " what was completely visible on it's back... Or other youtubers need to hit the gym a little bit, or their trying to defend their "best smartphone of 2015" for no matter what against real life facts
Richard Rusinaru "They need to hit the gym" - ahahahahaha thats damn funny. But yah on a serious note, I have seen those videos too and I agree with what you said, it's just been hard for all the fans to digest the fact that a perfect company like Google, may not always be perfect.
This is actually a great teardown. I got my Nexus 6P a few months back, but your videos made me invest in some extra protection for it. Keep up the good work!
+Richard Rusinaru We are seeing them do more and more hardware, hopefully in a year or two they'll release their own android phone. but it's hard because they are pressured by android manufacturers who are already worried about competing with each other they don't want to compete with google.

+David Lawman Well a lot of their advertising was honestly not the reason I bought the phone. I bought it for say stock android, front facing speakers, the metal exterior build etc.

thanks for great video! all those folks thinking they have "all aluminum" phones. I appreciated your calling them on their false advertising practice which unless teardown is done, nobody would have known. keep up the good work!
I have had this phone for almost two years now and used to really like it. It 'was' fast and it 'did' have a good battery life; now I am needing to replace my battery and my phone is much slower than it used to be. I am a fan of this phone and honestly, after using an iPhone for many years before my first android, I was hesitant, but now I absolutely love it and cant stand iOS. I spent some time working part time in a mobile repair store and got to know the guys working their. The one time we got a customer bringing this phone into the shop, it was a pain in the ass to repair. That said, almost all new phones are. Breaking the glass cover at the top is not a huge deal, buy a new one and replace it. (Honestly, buy an extra just in case if you are planning to repair your phone because the chances of it not breaking are very slim.) To all those hesitant about this phone and the 'false advertising' about the "full metal body"; this is a trick done by every company out there and to be honest, the average consumer (which is probably 90% of the viewers watching this) don't ever even notice the fact that they misdirected. Honestly, I kind of liked the plastic bits on the back, they add some texture. Different perspectives come in everything and the only reason this video is portraying it in a bad light is just due to the fact that Google/Huawei "false advertised" it. Otherwise great video, really informative and entertaining to!
aale zehra he used this for the tare down, making it more fragile when he fixed it back (adhesive is gone), therefore it won't be a fair test; something he is very insistent on.
First thank you so much for this helpful video. I cracked today accidentally the display of my 7 days old 6P. The glass front is ok, but the amoled display has a few cracks and is totally white and bluish. So I decided to repair it on my own. As I saw on the video the main problem is to save the black glass bar of the camera and the plastic bar on the bottom while replacing them. I removed them successfully without any problems. I used a self made tool of an shaver blade and enough heat :). I ordered the screen with the frame because it's only 10$ more and it is a lot easier to change the whole frame.
I think the various drop videos show this to be a sturdy phone. I agree though that this was deceptive by both Google and Huawei. I love my Nexus 6 P although I don't trust that it's as adorable out of a case as my Note 4.
Just going back and watching these old videos, so happy to see how much Zack's channel has grown. He's become even more savage. And his work is now seriously noticed by everyone. Legend! 👏👍
Thanks for making these awesome tear down videos! They are super through and very helpful to all of us that try to do our own DIY phone repairs. Keep it up!
I 've been watghing your video for a long time, but this is this the first time I use one of your video to actually do something with it! I just replaced my nexus 6P battery by watching this video! I didn't crack the glass, I started lifting it from the right corner. ;-) Thank you Zack!!! ;-)
thanks for your video, I just took my 6P apart. It stopped charging about 2 weeks ago and rather than buy a new phone (which I can't afford right now) I'll gladly spend the $40 for a new USB-C port daughterboard, and battery. Thanks again, cheers from Canada!
Your videos remind me of my old days when I had a shop where I used to repair phones! Back in those days about five to seven years ago we didn't have that much Androids and IPhones in India! All we had were old Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Samsung flip phones!
I've had the phone for almost 3 months and it's the best thing on earth. It hasn't bent, no glass has cracked, and no buttons have deformed. Everything has its flaws but I have yet to experience one on this phone. It's fast, smooth, and beautiful.
+Taskin Forkan Nobody said you shouldn't like your phone but facts are facts about the plastic build and dove tails. Google and Huawai need to be called out.
Every new phone you buy will be the best ever if you update premium phones, that is the way tech works! I am sure if you buy the Samsung S7 with a CPU that will kill the 6p's that will be the best ever. The problem is that consumers are now seeing there is a reason why this is cheaper than the iPhone, it has structural faults, plastic instead of aluminium, softer metal, slower storage and RAM, etc. That will kill its second hand price especially for anyone who is worried about how the 810 will effect the phone in the long term (even with the drastic throttling). I would buy the Nexus 6 at nearly half the price of this, as I am not a camera buff, but the fingerprint scanner would be a loss. For most tasks the older nexus 6 is fine and it has proved to be very reliable and has updated well to Marshmallow.
+TheAE35Unit What his facts. Jerry isn't and shouldn't be more trustworthy than Google or Huawei especially with his pathetic title used on the original video.
that's true... the metal and the aluminium are stopping the signal... I'm a Chief Technology Officer at a company that's making smartphone solution and we are using aluminium faraday cage to make directional antenna for the radio signals which include the bluetooth, wifi and the mobile network signal. So maybe this is the reason Hwauei made the plastic and glass parts of the back of the 6p... just to prevent the signal lost of the radio signals inside
For removing glass, I recommend using an Xacto chisel. More surface area means the prying pressure is more evenly dispersed and thus a much lower chance of shattering the glass. Also. I *always* unplug the battery first when disassembling a phone/tablet. Even though the device is off, there's still current traveling through the parts.
Those screws are stronger than you think. I forgot 2 of them at the bottom and was wondering why i couldn't pry the display off. I was giving it a lot of force with taking care not to bend and break the display or glass. Also, back camera glass comes off fairly easy with A LOT of heat from a hair dryer and an exacto blade. Work the point between glass and aluminum and start prying up while simultaneously pushed more blade surface under the glass. The more blade surface pushing the glass up will decrease chances of breaking.
Jerry Rig, I say you have a 100/100 chance of getting the top visor glass off in one piece if you do it right. You just need to heat the glass up hot, then use a razor blade and apply it to the right side of the visor and gently work your way in. In that way, I never broke a single visor and I repaired 5 Nexus 6p so far. Actually, the Nexus 6p is a really easy phone to repair once you learn its trick. I also can take the back off very easily without damaging the plastic that goes around the phone. I just insert a sim card removing tool into a bottom screw hole to open a gap to pry open the phone's frame from the back. Now, I can open up a Nexus 6p really easily.
I really appreciated the bend test you did on the 6p to help inform buyers that this phone has a few design flaws and I'm not sure why you are getting so much hate... and I even own a 6p. All in all I just wanted to say thanks!!
+Mitchell Hill Hey thanks man. I appreciate it. There has been a lot of mad people... I guess people get emotionally attached to their phones for some reason. Thanks for watching!
I have a Graphite Nexus 6P, built early November. While I agree that this phone is structurally weak, it does not stop me from loving the phone. It is easily the best phone I have ever had and used.
Thankfully all connections were designed by the folks at Lego! I wish you had gone a little further with the tear down though; I was looking to see how the side switches get removed and replaced. Thanks though, I appreciate how concise your videos are.
Same here its been flaking off and its annoying , when i took it to repair the battery they told me it has alot of damage when it barley has a scratch , and i ve been using it for 3 years
I've had this phone since release and have used it hard every day. After 2 years of hard use, my 6P is tired, but it survived. I've dropped it many times, frozen it a few times, and once kicked it skidding across the road. It is still usable, just slow and the battery is tired. My favourite phone ever, hopefully my NIB Pixel is anywhere near as good.
Nice video as usual. I do have a few questions. It looks like you slightly damaged the plastic metal piece that sure what it is on the bottom trying to get that open to get under the screws??? Is there anyway to get in there without damaging it because if not I would have to let customers know that that could be damaged. Also I wonder if there's a solution for the glass issue. Maybe a miniature suction cup? It just sucks you have to damage The housing in order to work on this phone.
Stupid thing won't let me edit it. One of the sentences that make any sense thanks Siri. Just seeing if there's anyway to open up the housing and without leaving any marks.
I thought about using a mini suction cup for the glass camera lens. But none that i have are strong enough. Maybe if you could fit 5 or so small suction cups on there... It might help. But it's glued *tight*. That bottom screw cover is plastic, so no matter how you touch it with the pry tool, it'll leave a little bit of a mark. Unfortunatly.
+JerryRigEverything yeah thanks for the heads up I'll have to let customers know in the future if I work on it so far I haven't heard of a broken one yet except for yours of course lol
Great video! I wonder how Google gets away with advertizing as "all metal" when in reality it's not? That's kind of sorry of them I think. Thanks for the top notch work, keep them coming.
Hi Jerry! Thanks for the video. I was attempting to replace my battery and after removing the back glass and the plastic and the nails i tried working on the front. Only for the screen and the AMOLED panel to come off! I can't seem to get the rest of the assembly out of the frame. Any suggestions/advice? Unfortunately it looks like i've managed to damage the screen assembly in the process. Thanks
How would the antennas work sweetie? No point in putting the bottom and top panels in (made out of plastic and glass) if they are going to be made of aluminum underneath... the signal needs to go through somewhere.
+JerryRigEverything if you are interested, I have a nexus 6P in gold that when held up to a light and looked at from a narrow angle, you can see a tiny bump at the volume and power buttons, and a slight curve, but the other side is razor thin. I would imagine that the volume button is the problem causer here, and that once the volume button fails the midframe starts to separate from the plastic. I still love this phone but shame on Google
I totally agree. that 'krinkle' near the power button has happened to a lot of people. The reddit forums were complaining about it as well. It seems to be a decent phone other than the build quality though!
The 6P is an excellent phone. However, and I keep saying this time and time again, that in order for it to be priced so competitively, Huawei had to have cut corners somewhere. The cut corners are the build quality. Yes it uses metal for the outside, but from experience I can say it's pretty cheap feeling metal. It's still a great phone, but I feel like a lot of reviewers make the mistake of saying something has a great build quality, simply because it uses metal.
+DrumNTech Very very valid. I believe 100% that its a good phone from a software perspective. Everyone who has used it seems to love it. But from a build perspective... it needs a lot of work. I'm going to use this matte gold phone for the next few weeks and try it out.
I still love the phone, slap a case on there and the metalling doesn't even matter. the speed and battery are both pretty good, then again. I've only had a plastic backing phone before this one
Jerry, why are you on youtube, you seem too high class for it. Your voice, your knowledge and your equipment. Its like you're too good for this. ... And you had a thousand apples in your truck... You mean business. :P
Agree it's sham that it's not a full metal design. However for how thin and fragile it seems, it tears down and holds up really well. I think overall it's a good design. The only thing I really don't like is the strong glue holding the battery down.
The aluminium colour looks the best for me. Again: thank you for your reviews! I give value to people like you, who work towards giving the truth to consumers.
Whether you like it or not gotta say I am a huge fan of the design of the Nexus 6p. It appears to be very modular and relatively easy to repair. I no longer am using my Nexus 6p as a primary but, it was awesome only problem was that the graphite back scratched with fingernails which is kinda a bummer.
I have this phone since november 2015 (around 8 months) and didn't had any issue with it until yesterday. The screen is coming out of the aluminium case and because I didn't bought it directly from Google, it's a pain in the ass for the warranty. They claim it's my fault (even if I was really careful with it... never sat on it, didn't put it in any skinny jeans or dropped it from any height), and physical accident ain't covered by Huawei. The phone still looks like new outside of fact that the screen that is now coming out of the frames because of bad design flaws. I really liked the Nexus 6P, but I can't stand behind a company that doesn't acknowledge the design flaws that the build have. On a side note Videotron didn't even want to replace it with the same model or any recent one as they don't have it in stock. The best they could offer me are refurbished LG G4 (somewhat older technology hardware than the Nexus 6p).
I love it BURNT SKITTLES!! LOL. Great Job, but still makes me go eeek! when you do the teardown on these Puppies!! so with the material used to build this Device, Is it still worth the $$$!!
+myproject13 It is less expensive than most of the other flagships... (Note 5/iphone 6s) so ya, its still worth it the money. As long as you know going into it that the reason its cheaper is because they skimped a bit and cut corners on build quality.... not because they love their customers.
Almost 2 years later and my phone is 100% intact. I've dropped it many many times and the screen has never cracked. So the frame held up perfectly. Only issue is that the battery has started to fade. Replacements are ~$25AUD. My favourite feature is the fingerprint scanner location. Whoever thought of putting it there deserves a medal.
Where can I get the gold bottom cover? you know the plastic strip at the bottom. I've looked everywhere and purchased few but they are not the actual colour the phone originally came with.
Hey Jerry, i dropped my phone from the car window on the road. It just bent in a weird shape and screen was cracked. Now I have to replace it as the repair guys won't touch it because of the bent shape. I opened it up thanks to your video, but after doing all that you did. The vibration motor and top speaker are still on the frame. I pulled out the volume chip but will the display cable, vibration motor and upper speaker be on the new housing from the above link? Not sure. Can you help?
would there be any way to buy an all aluminum case instead of the aluminum/plastic one on the device? like can it be sent to made with all the specifications such as the holes where the nails go.
I'm trying to replace my 6p housing and I've noticed that my housing has a pair of contacts at the top left hand side that most of the replacement housings don't have. I think these contacts may be to do with grounding but I'm not sure and don't want to damage it by removing it and placing it on a new housing. do you know what these contacts are and if they are safe to remove?
thank you for the video. I was originally gonna buy the nexus 6p but after you showed two bend tests and a teardown, I changed my mind. I hate false advertisements. I think I might either get the moto x pure or the nexus 5x. if you do have the time is it possible to do a test for the nexus 5x to see how good/bad it is so I can consider buying? thank you for the video and keep up with your hardwork
Good tear down but all aluminum phones have plastic in their frame open a iPhone 6, 6+, htc etc. It has to have plastic separating for the antennas to work properly.
Jerry, my 6P has encountered the boot loop of death after the four core patch that I'm sure you've heard about. I want to get my data off the phone and have a spare motherboard from another broken 6P. It looks like it's possible to swap the motherboard for the working one. Wouldn't that essentially be replacing the processor cores along with it? Would my data still be there afterwards? Or is the "memory" of the phone a part of the mobo?
I think the “All metal design" stated by them implies to when a regular consumer grabs the phone on the outside all they feel is metal. Whereas if they stated metal-plastic hybrid, people'll be asking, where's the plastic? I think it's about experiencing it as phone rather than what the phone is literally made of.
"All aluminum design" was probably a reference to the appearance. I'd rather have this than a fake plastic leather battery cover on my note 4. They did indeed mislead the world. Something to consider. Thanks for doing this.
One of the good thing about this phone is that the bottom board is actually separated from the main board, not like the 5X. So, IF something happens down there, you don't have to change the whole board, which is expensive as F.
Great video mate , and indeed the advertising is misleading . i must confess i did not like the device from the start due to the 3 different materials on the back and what i think is a very average fit, just my opinion anyway , and besides that, it surprised me people including reviewers would praise it up for wonderful wonderful build quality ...........when it looks at best ............. average compared to better put together devices. i actually like poly carbonate for a device , i loved my old note2 , but the way the 6p has been advertised and the way it is put together to me is looks very very average. keep up the good work .

I've had the phone for almost 3 months and it's the best thing on earth. It hasn't bent, no glass has cracked, and no buttons have deformed. Everything has its flaws but I have yet to experience one on this phone. It's fast, smooth, and beautiful.
yup I love it too plus I got my Google nexus case with micro fiber back today!!!!
+Taskin Forkan Nobody said you shouldn't like your phone but facts are facts about the plastic build and dove tails. Google and Huawai need to be called out.
+Billy Bob Jimmy Joe Dude killer user name!! cool. Peace
Jerry isn't and shouldn't be more trustworthy than Google or Huawei especially with his pathetic title used on the original video.
i suspect the metal/plastic is for antenna signal as many all metal phones have had problems with signal loss, it's hardly a deal breaker
+Dan notsaying He said he didnt fault the design as much as the advertising
that's true... the metal and the aluminium are stopping the signal...
Will definitely be coming to jerry's channel if I ever need to buy a new phone!
Honestly love my 6P. Best phone I've ever used.
+Lazar Yeah, although for some reason even with the official Huawei case on the phone I still got a dent in the back. The case has no damage?
ha
So the 6P is just a rather average phone compared to the rest of the smartphones out in the market...
Lazar Still using the Nexus 6P today
yes but mine bootlooped a couple of weeks ago and thanks to xda i've restored it with half the cores...Really disappointed about that :/
Those screws are stronger than you think. The more blade surface pushing the glass up will decrease chances of breaking.
mix all the parts of the phone and make a ultimate phone
9996262671 views that’s not possible
Eric He ?
AusDaes everything is possible
Lol.
he means like switching colors and things
Now, I can open up a Nexus 6p really easily.
thanks just changed my battery because it was getting a little old, works like new! couldnt have done it without your help
'a funky rubber hat on for some reason' There's always some throw away thing you say that makes me smile along the way, thanks : )
Phones today would really benefit from that awesome camera design. I love that, it looked so cool
Thanks though, I appreciate how concise your videos are.
your voice is so soothing and its so good to listen to!!!! lol so glad I got the s7 instead of the 6p!!!
I have the nexus 6p., it's a good phone but my plastic strip around the screen has shaped off on some edges of the screen
adem Yeah mine too. it's so annoying.
Mine too.. I scrubbed off majority of it with my nail tho.. lol
+JerryRigEverything yeah thanks for the heads up I'll have to let customers know in the future if I work on it so far I haven't heard of a broken one yet except for yours of course lol
what do u do with these phones after ur test's?
n yeah I love ur work keep it up!!!
+William Patton I understand sweetie. The iPhones, have plastic integrated into the frame as well. But hey dont screw things into it structurally.
+JerryRigEverything the plastic to metal screws don't have anything to do with the volume button weak spot though, right?
William Patton Ya, they both are consistent with that.
I'm going to use this matte gold phone for the next few weeks and try it out.
hey I was wondering if u were gonna do a torture test on the nexus 5x???
I still love the phone, slap a case on there and the metalling doesn't even matter. the speed and battery are both pretty good, then again. I've only had a plastic backing phone before this one
Jerry, why are you on youtube, you seem too high class for it. Your voice, your knowledge and your equipment. Its like you're too good for this.
... And you had a thousand apples in your truck... You mean business. :P
+Bryan Snow Lol, I love UA-cam man. No other platform lets you interact with your audience like UA-cam does.
hi jerry a question
when you say it smells like burned skittles
how do you know what burned skittles smell like .. you actually roasted/burned them ?
Batteries smell like that when it gets punctured.
oohmybutt u didn't understand what he meant!
Great video!!! Where is the wifi antenna?
"Like a little Lego" is like the new "Happy trees" for me.
Really glad to see you didn't buy a third 6P only to bend it in half like the others 👍
Agree it's sham that it's not a full metal design. However for how thin and fragile it seems, it tears down and holds up really well. I think overall it's a good design. The only thing I really don't like is the strong glue holding the battery down.
Is that plastic not for the antennae??
+JerryRigEverything is the top speaker including the black part that you see infront of the screen replaceable on its own or is it part of the panel?
The aluminium colour looks the best for me.
Again: thank you for your reviews!
I give value to people like you, who work towards giving the truth to consumers.
+hitardo The aluminum does look good! And thank you!
LOL.
Great Job, but still makes me go eeek! when you do the teardown on these Puppies!! so with the material used to build this Device, Is it still worth the
$$$!!
+myproject13 It is less expensive than most of the other flagships... (Note 5/iphone 6s) so ya, its still worth it the money. As long as you know going into it that the reason its cheaper is because they skimped a bit and cut corners on build quality.... not because they love their customers.
JerryRigEverything Great Answer! Thanks my friend! Makes total sense, PEACE
Almost 2 years later and my phone is 100% intact. I've dropped it many many times and the screen has never cracked. So the frame held up perfectly. Only issue is that the battery has started to fade. Replacements are ~$25AUD. My favourite feature is the fingerprint scanner location. Whoever thought of putting it there deserves a medal.
full metal aluminum plastic hybrid design 😂😂😂😂
+Wow
Paluminum
+TheAE35Unit Or plaluminum
+Wow As long as my hand touches aluminum when I pick the phone up I'm okay.
+HERO Then stay away from the top and bottom or you might be repulsed by disgust.
TheAE35Unit Well your hands do usually rest on the metal part.
Perhaps allowing the lens to cool slightly will prevent cracking?
+Cheong Ziyong Maybe.... I did put it through some pretty hefty heating and cooling cycles though: ua-cam.com/video/5IRQlzrgvAE/v-deo.html
Will there still be adhesive on the black camera glass, and the bottom plastic thingy if i wood take it off carefully without damaging both of them?
is a hair-dryer good enough for the heat needed in this teardown?
You haven't mentioned anything about the second loudspeaker. There is one on top as well, right? I mean, they do advertise it as "stereo" speakers.
There's something different about your videos. Love them a lot
+Aekantik Dalal Thank you!
Prove me wrong, but isnt a all metal design just saying that the outside deisgn is all metal, whilst a metal unibody says the entire frame is metal?
then it'd just be all metal body design
nah man you probably wanna watch the s7 or note 7 teardown
3:29.. dang it went flying haha.
Where can I get the gold bottom cover? you know the plastic strip at the bottom. I've looked everywhere and purchased few but they are not the actual colour the phone originally came with.
your camera lens replacement link is down
I noticed a lot of scuffs on your plunge edges was that from removing the screen and bottom piece
loving the content your pushing out !
Is there a new link for a replacement camera? The one in the description above doesn't work
Was gonna buy the 6p 128gb this Thursday, still buying the 6p 128gb this Thursday !
I prefer the gold one.
would there be any way to buy an all aluminum case instead of the aluminum/plastic one on the device? like can it be sent to made with all the specifications such as the holes where the nails go.
You deserve way more subscribers !
Hey Jerry, could you do a ZUK Z2 (or Lenovo Z2 Plus) teardown please?
Best Phone of 2016! My next buy, definetely...
Good tear down but all aluminum phones have plastic in their frame open a iPhone 6, 6+, htc etc. It has to have plastic separating for the antennas to work properly.
I'm going to be waiting for the new Nexus, I currently have the nexus 6.... hoping it is worth the wait
6p busted ..!! nice video pal ...keep uploading the reality....hidden behind the covers. (y)
+Abdul Aziz Amar I agree, the replaceable charging port is a positive aspect.
That plastic to aluminum joinery is just crazy. They either didn’t test it for durability or they didn’t care that it was so structurally unsound.
What's the white strip on the back?
2:46 How do you know what burnt Skittles smell like?
Good Video .. figured my 6P build isn't all aluminum metal frame.. not surprised ..
"he has a funky rubber hat...Let's put it back on" jerry rig the giant said😉
where are the microphones especially the bottom one?
thats certainly a guy that knows hes stuff that manhandle this Oled Nexus6p..
great vid and thx for making such a high-end-device doeable.
When reassembling a phone do we have to put adhesives again?!
hey Jerry how is that phone I hear it's actually pretty good what are your thoughts? is the camera really good
At least they're not charging an arm and a leg for their phone like Apple and Samsung does. But I don't see me ever switching from Samsung
what thermal paste compound do I use to replace the old one
