Hey, thanks for the tutorial! I've always had a lot of trouble with doing lighting. Nothing ever made sense to me and other tutorials were either outdated or didn't explain things well. This is such an awesome tutorial, I love how you explained everything, it all makes sense now!
you can change the lighting override (while still using sun position) by changing the colour maps in the engine content. they are like graphs of colour against sun position
Hey everyone! In this video we check out how I like to light and add post processing to scenes. Make sure to check out the before and after comparison at 15:43 If you enjoyed the video consider buying me a coffee: ko-fi.com/matthewpalaje Thank you all for watching!
This was great insight and advice on atmosphere in games. Thanks a ton. Also, I know it's not your usually type of tutorial, but any chance you can do on on the water splash screen effect seen in games after exiting water, doesn't seem to be any on youtube as far as I could find, or I am bad at a searching properly lol.
hey sir can you help me. when i hit play it flash white and after 3-4 seconds it comes slowly to normal color. why? AND maybe a second help also light i think. When i add particle ( normal cascade) into my scene its allways black. i learned that the particle need movable light, but even when i parent a directional light under de ermitter it dosent work. can you help me here also as well ? please help me, light in unreal is a second world. thanks for reply
Do you have a video showing how to create levels? Like you play this small map, and after killing the boss or whatever you get to the next level or rather the next map. How do i do this?
This looks beautiful. In general I find you videos very clear and informative. Thanks a lot! Quick question, will light shafts from the directional light or volumetric fog from Expon Height Fog also work with it set to static (I noticed yours was movable which is problematic performance wise). If not, what are some other ways to achieve similar looking effects at a low performance cost?
Hey, I really want to start doing stuff like this but i have never done anything in UE4... have you done any begginer tutorials or any good tutorials that you learned from? Thanks
Hey! I have a series called Let's Create that you can check out: ua-cam.com/play/PLU5bW3o0bUgQDwayV-EnLRTUTiRVuyT9r.html Start with the foundation fps video.
YEEEEEESSSSS realistic looks are so boring!!!! Why does every UA-camr teach realistic scene? I used to learn only what I need from those vids and but never made same scene. And.. now I have your channel which I can subscribe:)
Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much for this :D I noticed your scene was running some amazing fps, especially for looking so great! Any tips for a beginner for optimizing a scene similar to the one you've made here? Maybe a tutorial vid? :D Cheers
but i have a few questions great content there, I am an Architect visualizer and looking to change my pc to a light easy to carry laptop. i was wondering if you prescribe a specs for me and what is the most important thing to look out for. is a thin laptop better, does it take extremely long time to render on unreal engine. will the rendering be so demanding on the laptop i actually want to go for a max-Q 10 series graphics card laptop coz of itlight weight but im thinking of the heating caused by rendering
Hey Matthew, I really love your games and want to start developing my own. I know a teensy bit of Java and am interested in developing games using Unity. My first question is-Is Unity free? and second, should I learn C# before starting Unity? Thanks for any replies, would really help.
VirtuallyChoco, Unity is free until your business has made a hundred thousand in the last fiscal year" not entirely sure what a fiscal year is" after which you have to pay something like $120 a month for using it After you make $200,000 there is a more expensive version that covers any income through the engines use
Great response Dragon Fang! I'll address the learning C# before Unity question. I recommend learning them together! I learned C# through programming games. It's much more enjoyable and since my main goal was making games I learned about game design, level design, ui etc.. whilst learning C# which was a great experience.
Hey Matthew, another suggestion: I'm trying to make a game in which I have multiple playable characters in-game. So, I Press a button while looking in the pawn's general direction and I take control of him and the rest are AI controlled. Can you help?
Oh well. I thought you were going to talk about lightmaps, lightmap resolution and all that stuff that is so important. I already know how to place an atmospheric fog or other things, and change the values...
For those who are doing procedural content, requiring dynamic lighting the trick is to use light amount of Distance Field Ambient Occlusion. docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Engine/Rendering/LightingAndShadows/DistanceFieldAmbientOcclusion/
Came here for Unity but his frequency towards Unity has declined. Not that I hate or anything just that his contents isn't that interesting because Unreal is not what I have come for. Hence I have UnSubscribed just to let you know Matthew. Anyway loved your content though keep up the good work with Unreal. Cya :)
Thank you. My scene went from "why am I even bothering making this game" to "that actually looks pretty nice".

YES! I've been waiting for this one!!!!!!!
That's great to hear! Enjoy :)
this video helped me to take my enviroment to the next level, cheers!
*watches UE4 Post Processing video*
*gets udemy ad for unity*
That's how the UA-cam ad system works; you watch videos about game engines, you get ads about game engines
I got the same ad too...
i got the coding is easy ad
I literally had an udemy ad for ue4 5min ago
Beautiful! gives a firewatch vibe
Thanks Akriti!
I was just thinking this
Oh YEEES! This is what I needed! Thanks Matthew!
No problem! I hope you enjoy the video. Let me know what else you'd like to see :)
I started out wanting to do 3D modeling for games .... ending up learning game development and loved it
I was a person who went for total realism.... dull colors and basically dull everything!!!!!!!! This video changed my perspective.!!!
realism sometimes is good, but i'd rather if a game looked like a game

I almost get blind from this video, but this is worth it. Thanks man.
Can't wait for Let's Create #20!! ^^
Awesome tutorial! Thanks!!
hi mattew, great content i love the lighting tutorial
Great video! Learned a lot.
Thanks Sebb Subb! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Why is my volumetric fog so harsh? even with the lowest values it still makes my scene completly invisible with fog
This looks beautiful.
In general I find you videos very clear and informative.
Thanks a lot!

este tutorial es genial ... tienes uno por la noche ... una iluminación nocturna de terror ...
How do you make the exposure a constant value??? Its pretty annoying sometimes
amazing, thank you for your sharing :D
Amazing presentation :)
i think interiors are a lot harder in any software. this amazing though
how do you make these short videos in the starting?
Great video, really helped me make my levels way better.next i think it would be cool if you made junkrats rip-tire from overwatch
Hey, I really want to start doing stuff like this but i have never done anything in UE4... have you done any begginer tutorials or any good tutorials that you learned from? Thanks

Thanks Dantess!
but i have a few questions
great content there, I am an Architect visualizer and looking to change my pc to a light easy to carry laptop.

is a thin laptop better,
does it take extremely long time to render on unreal engine.
will the rendering be so demanding on the laptop
i actually want to go for a max-Q 10 series graphics card laptop coz of itlight weight but im thinking of the heating caused by rendering
You're black ...
It would be nice if every week you do a tutorial, nice vid BTW
Thanks!
It would be, but I'm focused on developing my games and courses :)

Year late, but you could just do a line trace and if it's the character you want to switch with you can switch possession.
14:26 nice
Thanks a lot
how long do u think it would take me to master unreal engine like this ?
Believe me .... like a year or maybe more!
Oh well. I thought you were going to talk about lightmaps, lightmap resolution and all that stuff that is so important. I already know how to place an atmospheric fog or other things, and change the values...
Maybe in another video. This is what people have been requesting for months.
i have 8gb ddr4
is it good enough?
Utsavsingh 5501 for what
m1ksu for ue4
Thank you you legendary person!!!! Aaahahahahahaha I love this !!!
Thanks for watching!
Hows the work on your udemy course going ?
Hey Jonathan!
If all goes well it will be out on the 22nd of this month. If I have recording/technical issues it will be out half way through October.
Best!
感谢楼主的教程,在这里发中文是不是很洋气~嘿嘿

Please do one for unity. I beg you.
He's like...im gonna show u something in unreal engine faw
Reminds me of Rust a little, I like it
leaves are still very bad :)
Wrong.

LongGone Eve yes because he really cares about one person unsubscribing
ur accent sounds like elon musk
Now one for unity :D
ua-cam.com/video/a0OQvWAPeuo/v-deo.html
Sebastian Corfitzen isn't this an UE4 oriented channel and hasn't Brackeys made one already?
He used to do unity, but changed engine, dosnt mean he cant do a unity video, and yes Brackeys did one.
Jason Muir UE4 is free. Have you been living under a rock?
Fuck off with that trash engine for kiddos :D
unrealistic lighting... next!
