im here for the volpe train, kid grew up with yankee in his blood, hes been a fan ever since he was a kid grew up here in NJ and his idol is jeter. Kid has the motivation, apparently cashman told him he has a opportunity to win the starting position for 2023, and what he did was go out and train the moment he heard that. Kid is gonna be special hopefully.
That IKF segment raised my BP by 20mm Hg at least. Probably the most unforgivable move by Cashman in my memory (even terrible contracts like Jacoby are more forgivable - its only money and we didn't benefit another team by taking their dead money so they could spend it on a probable future HOF for a 1 yr contract that would have perfectly fit our needs). This was a fantastic video as a Yankees fan. I wouldn't have minded more focus on Volpe and Peraza at the end to take the bitter taste out of my mouth, but thought it was an overall great video. Have watched quite a few of your videos over the last few days; I like your style and chosen topics and you have grown a lot from the earlier videos. Keep up the great work; 2023 is going to be an awesome baseball year. I can just feel it. Hope you have some interesting WBC themed content coming up.
I may do a follow up way down in the future kinda like the “how is their business doing now?” segments you see in Shark Tank. But thank you so much! You actually hit the nail on the head with the next video being on the World Baseball Classic. I appreciate all the support.
So, I'm from California and have family in New England. Definitely not a Yankee fan but I was a ball player and always loved and respected Jeter (for his intangibles more than anything) but I'm actually typing this just to say how much I love that you used that Organized Konfusion joint for the video. They were even better at their shit than Jeter was at his. So dope! ✌️
Red Sox fan here, we hate Yankees and say fuck jeter. But we respect Yankees as our forever rival and highly respect cherish Jeter all the time. He’s definitely goat when we think of generation, he can’t be replace and will always be remembered
I absolutely love your content. Keep it up, it's right up there with Jon Bois for me in terms of the bits of humor and overall research quality. It's fantastic.
Just as a minor note, an acronym is when you combine a sequence of letters that stand for something into a sound, like CERN which people often pronounce "Serrn" rather than "Cee Ee Arr En", or UNICEF which people pronounce "Yuu-nih-seff" rather than spelling it out. IKF in this case would be an initialism because you spell his name out rather than saying "Ihkfuh" or something. Anyways, great video! Just commenting for the algorithm gods.
Just finished binging the rest of the replacing videos and this one still hits as hard as it did when I watched it back when it first came out. The wild card game segment did and still does make me cry, fuck I miss that man. Keep on making content like this, excited to learn more about other teams
Thank you that means a lot. It’s so great to know that people get as much if not more enjoyment from watching these videos as I do making them. Hoping you enjoy the next Replacing… video coming out before year’s end.
Hey Ho I made a few mistakes on my latest video. If we could all gather into single file line and point out each and every single frame that contains a mistake.
Gleyber had that season w that ball..when they changed it again..his home runs were outs..he wasnt hitting the other way anymore..now he kinda back to that oppo way approach
“Didi did not live up to his expectations” nobody ever gave him high expectations and he was above what we thought. Leave it up to a Yankee fan to decide how didi was, he was excellent. Volpe is gonna be sick tho
It was so hilarious to see Cashman be so stubborn about keeping IKF at SS rather than just call up Peraza. Gotta have that extra year of control ya know.
This reminds me of the Mets current situation at third base, since there was a massive hole when David Wright got hurt/retired (ironically, also after the 2014 season) GREAT stuff on this one. I'll ignore the mistakes, I make enough in my videos as it is.
This was a great script. My best feedback would be not to be so "on" with the delivery. A lot of the sentences ended with an upward inflection that sounded a bit unnatural. This wasn't present in the quick phone call shots. Just some constructive criticism!
People piss and moan about jeters defense (so playing an incredible volume of shortstop during the height of major league offense just when they develop a method of estimating defense means youre the worst shortstop in history, according to people whove never played shortstop professionally) but nuñez was a bit of a butcher the year after. He did hit a bomb in the alcs that year though, he was a decent hitter for a utility piece
You should have also mentioned that part of the frustration with trading for IKF to play shortstop is that he's not even a shortstop. He won a gold glove......at 3rd base
Jeter wasn’t the problem replacing Mariano Rivera was 2 years in a row Chapman gave up the winning homerun and blew both alcs championships if not for that the Yankees would’ve made the World Series 1 pitch both years
@@nomorefielders not sure if its your kind of thing or not, but I've always wanted a deep dive into all the bad fallouts Cashman had with the dynasty era players
I think Historian was blinded by recency bias with Didi's defense as a Yankee, since he's been downright awful at SS since the injury. But considering his DRS numbers ranged from above avg to good (besides 2016) and TZ being just outright good before the injury and even just my memory of him as a good SS having watched Yankee games religiously during that time, I think this video really undermined his performance defensively at SS when he was a really solid one during that time. Ik OAA is another factor too, but it wasn't really all that popular back in those times and the other two Def metrics show that he's good, so that's why I'm disregarding it. Also, Gleyber wasn't a full-time SS till 2020. He only deputised/auditioned for that spot in 2019 since Didi was out. Most of the time he was at 2B
Honestly, defensive metrics are still a work in progress. There’s so much variability and factors that there really can’t be a defining metric, but that doesn’t mean that each individual one doesn’t have value. Also Gleyber played 77 games at short while playing 65 at second in 2019. I know that it’s barely reaching the minimum to qualify him as a shortstop, but I decided it was a good enough sample to validate the numbers.
@@nomorefielders Yea that's fair. It just felt a lil off hearing that he basically took the reigns that early since I remember them making him play there just as a deputy till Didi came back. He also barely played there, if I remember correctly, after Didi came back so I felt like that was sth that was needed. Love the vid though, seeing Didi's highlights crushing the Twins definitely put a large smile on my face 🤣 and the whole timeline after Jeter was really interesting and engaging to watch and reminisce.
Let's hope it goes better than when Mickey was first seen as DiMaggio's successor? Like when Mantle was on the verge of quitting baseball and his father was really disgusted at him, saying he thought he raised a man and if was that much of a quitter he can work in the coal mines. Needless to say, Mantle stuck it out and as the cliche goes, the rest is history.
His final hit came against a team I love more than most people and I cried from how perfect it was. Jeter was that guy you had to respect no matter who he played for. Hope Cap is enjoyin retirement
