I always record vertical, so in my photo app, while scrolling through and viewing the photos and videos, they’re all oriented the same, and I don’t have to flip my phone sideways to view the videos.
Another advantage: Increased distance between the lenses. When iPhone 15 pro spatial video was announced, I was immediately skeptic, because the lenses are way too close. For spatial videos, you need 2 different perspectives, but the perspectives are too similar if cameras are too close. With this camera arrangement, they wouldn't use the middle lens but the left and right one, basically doubling the depth of spatial videos.

Given most people instinctly hold phone vertically taking photos-videos with the phone shape as it is, this Landscape-Portrait double image taking feature is a MUST. GoPro has always, as far as I understand, allowed for Landscape image taking regardless how the GoPro is held. Holding phone given the rectangular shape of all phones always would dictate the necessary camera hardware features for image taking. I likely then delay my first iPhone purchase till this feature is introduced.
iPhone 16 Pro doesn't use the Sony IMX903. It uses the same size sensor of the 14 and 15. The IMX903 is 12% is larger than Apple's current sensor (1/1.28" vs 1/1.14")
First world problems are so vexing. OMG, Apple will solve the huge problem of having to hold the phone vertically or horizontally when taking photos and videos.
If you think about it they don’t even need to record two videos at the same time, it’s a matter of cutting out part of the entire sensor to match 16:9 or 9:16 or whatever aspect ratio you’d like. Btw they should bring all of the features that the iPhone 15 got to the 14 Pros as they do share a processor.
How about the front camera. We want better lens. They suck! Selfie camera are the number 1 most used and yet it’s not great. Makes you look horrible with the distortion when you capture the image.

@@MaxTechOfficial so why it matters if iPhone Spatial Video is recorded in 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps SDR. Only with Apple Vision Pro is recorded 2200 x 2200
Right now, there conflicting rumors on whether the iPhone 17 Pro models will keep the familiar triangular rear sensor configuration we've seen since the iPhone 11 Pro models. I think Apple has prototyped this familiar design and a new design with a rear camera configuration similar to that of the Google Pixel 9 Pro models, and may decide on a final design probably by late January 2025.

Makes more sense to have the 3 in-line lenses central on the LONG side of the body to support spatial video. They already moved the new camera button to work better with holding the phone longwise (horizontally) for taking video. I hope that these leeks are wrong and the cameras being central on the long side is the way forwards. No need for complex video processing and now you can have spatial video zoom using more than one lens (you have 3 in-line lenses now).
