Crossbows second? I'm sure you have your reasons. I just thought they would go first because they have no scaling. I suppose regular bows suck even with scaling (or you can't get pass Asylum Demon any other way, which I guess makes sense).

Indeed. It has a 50% scaling on Faith, 30% Dexterity and 16 Strength. Comp bow has 60% on both Dex and Str. He was mainly Str and Dex based, no wonder Darkmoon bow did bad damage XD
Agree but it's an endgame bow and there was no point in wasting levels on faith since he wouldn't use it ever again. He used it for just for entertainment I believe.
@@alexvolkymore4676 I mean, at the very least he didn't need to drill in the idea that it was bad. Dude brought the weapon up and out like 4 or 5 times just to say it's still trash (even though he left the main stat for the weapon at bare minimum required to use it)

Darkmoon Bow can be good if you have good Faith investment since its damage scales with Str, Dex, AND Faith. If you don't intend to have high Faith, you'll probably be better off just sticking with the regular bows. Moonlight arrows though can be used by any bow, they're not exclusive with the Darkmoon Bow, that's just their primary MO from the lore text.
Fun fact, you can kill Kalameet with a greatbow without needing to get Gough to shoot him out of the sky. All it takes is perfect timing and patience. Maybe a little fire resist. But you basically stand in the waterfall near the back of the arena, near the chest, and shoot at the valley opening as he flies by. It can take like an hour, I would know lmao. Great video, thanks for doing the challenge!
Doing a bow only run of this game was already bad enough, but after seeing this I don’t think I’ll ever use a crossbow in this game. We thank you for once again doing what the rest of us are too cowardly to do
I mean it makes perfect sense because the Crossbow is at best meant to be a side weapon due to being held in one hand and having little to no stat requirements. If not for the lack of free aiming it would be perfect if you need someone sniped for a less stressful run
The avelyn is legit the only good/decent crossbow in the game and that's only cause it's a 3 shot repeating crossbow and can be somewhat decent and outpace bow damage when all three shots land.
As an archery main in Dark Souls I've more or less done all three of these challenges as well, but crossbows and bows as NG and greatbows as NG+. The Darkmoon Bow is certainly a trap to archery challenge runners, the composite bow outclasses it in every way, it even outpaces the Darkmoon Bow in its job as a Divine Composite Bow +10. The Black Bow of Pharis is nice due to its range, but even then, it's outclassed by the Composite Bow in damage and the Hawk Ring more than makes up for the Composite Bow's shorter range. I would recommend an archery only run to people, just keep in mind you want to rush the Composite Bow and make that your weapon of choice. Again, I did crossbows in NG, not NG+, but I recall it being not too bad, I went full tank with Vitality, Endurance and enough STR to use the Greatshield of Artorias. The biggest mistake I saw you make was sticking with the light crossbow as long as you did. The Heavy Crossbow does far more damage and is between Avelyn and Light Crossbow in fire rate. It also does roughly as much damage as the Avelyn if only 2 bolts land, so against enemies that tend to avoid one or two shots from the Avelyn's volley the Heavy Crossbow is the more effective option. Greatbows are... interesting. Due to their fire rate and stamina drain they are not that great against bosses, but they are fun to use in most situations due to the feel of power behind them and when hitting many common enemies, in particular hollows, it sends them flying which is just fun and satisfying. Unfortunately I never finished my greatbow run as my interest just waned as the novelty wore off and the bosses got faster and hit harder. Overall, great video, as said I mainly do archery in the Souls games so another video on them is fun to see. Thank you for the video.
Since you didn't know about the Taurus down in the lava, you may be surprised to know you don't even need to lower the lava. You can just roll across, any% speedrunners do it.
These types of three set challenges are really interesting. I'd love to see more like this. Whether in the other from soft games or continuing dark souls with other weapons types like daggers or curved swords, etc. Great job mate
I did an archery only playthrough a while back, and it was my only character I was ever able to win PvP battles on. tranquil walk of peace + bow is a cruel way to win a battle lol
This helps for any run not just a ranged one, but you're not standing anywhere near close enough to the 4 kings. You need to literally be touching them to make their attacks favor pure melee AND make those same melee attacks deal much less damage (because the handle hits you not the blade). Still there is an extremely rare case where they'll use the grab or explosion but you can just stand next to them and heal as they attack.
This run reminds me that the easiest way to kill Gwyndolin (in my opinion) is with the hawk ring and greatbow, you can snipe him the moment you enter the room and he won't move at all
17:50 this is how I took out Manus in my first DS1 run. The guy who bought me the game was so pissed, but I thought it was hilarious. I had a +15 black bow and hawk ring anyways, so when I saw Manus' eyes from above, I just decided to try and shoot that, and discovered it was a boss, so kept at it... Good times.
Magic damage weapons scale with int, and divine weapons scale with faith, scale really really well infact. So you would of had a better time with the divine xbow if you had like 40 faith.
Missed opportunity to make the ng++ run the crossbow one, and only restrict yourself to the sniper crossbow /s (love your vids, they're the perfect mixture between gameplay and humour)
Absolutely random tip for the gaping dragon that's very specific; if you're using a ranged build, you can get yourself summoned and use the battlements outside to freely snipe the boss. Bonus points for putting yourself in red tearstone range and just pincushion the dragon for the host from complete safety.
I'm glad to inform you that there is actually a kalameeth bow cheese, but it's a tedious one. It's a goughless strat, so you messed it by going to talk to him first: it's basically activating the fight and run back to up the stairs. He'll try to burn you up there, but his fire doesn't reach back near the fogwall. He'll poke his head up constantly and you just... shoot him. EDIT: also iirc if you hide under the waterfall, he just pokes his head under from time to time to fireblast you, which should make the fight easier overall. EDIT2: lemon deserves all the shotouts all the time, although the ring strat for nito is something way older (also, it doesn't always work because nito can get stuck on the skeletons... if you try it again and fail, now you know why!) Anyway, you don't have to be a fan to know baila morena, just alive during that time and somehow related to Italy in any way... which to me raises more questions about how you're related to Italy, but that's another topic...
I love it to see other challenge runners comment on each other's videos. Makes me feel like a big, happy family :) Also I'm positively surprised no one said anything about shooting in her face as well at 12:30. We've really matured as a community
