@@olivergarrick1175 George doesnt know how to tie the loose ends together in a satisfying way. As someone whose worked on a single boom series for 20 years I recognize something in both Tolkiens and Georges works. They come up with better ideas as they write and end up regretting how some of the earlier stories turned out. Tolkien worked on his series literally until the day he died never having it concretely mapped out. Not physically at least. Same with George. And the hardest thing to do is to adapt your existing works to fit the new ideas youve had. I thankfully never released any of my series and can still make those changes to the early parts. Harder when youve already released it
@@BrandonNinja True, but we did make him a millionaire. His entire lifestyle and ability to take his sweet time every day was paid for by the people who read his books. So while it is absolutely correct that he doesn’t owe anyone anything, it does go both ways. He isn’t owed respect when he hasn’t delivered a book in over 13 years. The first 3-5 years, sure. But not over a decade. Past then we’re allowed to joke about it at the very least. Lol
The secret meetings between Rhaenyra and Alicent were just so not needed. Leaving out Nettles is Wack and they keep cutting Baela scenes out for some reason. The show needs 10 episodes each season, 8 episodes is not enough. Also the Daemon dream sequences dragged on for too long.
Right! Baela can't even have a personality and dreams of her own, outside of wanting a dragon rider's death. Baela should have been pissed with Corlys, instead they turn this scene into an endorsement for Rhaenyra. Baela's entire arc revolved around Rhaenyra and propping up Jace. I have no words on Nettles...
I don't think so . Because we knew what was coming . She states she wants aemond so we see something is coming . The red wedding we don't see that betrayal coming from boltons behalf let alone in a wedding where guest right was a thing. The irony in the story of the rat cook directly relating to walder Frey and how he eventually met his demise .... this story doesn't have much room for events like that because it's written differently . Gotta just treat them separately . Much different than the red wedding not even close . Doubt it had potential for that kind of shock value but go ahead
@@rafaelluna3564it certainly had the potential to be incredibly shocking. Just because the 2 events are different doesn’t mean they can’t be equally as shocking… but go ahead.
Blood and cheese is literally one paragraph compared to the red wedding. If you want the red wedding then go watch or read it. And the show writers wrote Helena differently from the books.
@@rafaelluna3564I think they should have made everyone in this show “more royal.” And we would have a better show. We’d love the characters less bc they’d be more stuck up and assholey. But it would be more realistic. They have to stop trying to make these people so relatable to the average person. It waters everything down.
Dumbest take ever, the Red Wedding was the red wedding because of the build up. We knew the characters and the players involved. Also the stakes. The blood and cheese scene was a footnote in the grand scale of things, with a witty “gotcha” moment.
Helena going about her day as if she didnt lose a child. Same with alicent. She literally lost a grand child, and shes acting like nothing happened. They beheaded your child/grandchild, the silent sisters had to sew the severed head back to the body for the funeral.
Same with Rhaenyra. Luke died, she did that cringe turnaround look into the camera end of season 1, only to immediately go "wait, war bad, I'm a good person, uwu." so all the simple team black stans can continue glazing her...
@@asimhussain8716 I just don’t think she immediately switched to war monger mode. Everyone grieves differently. One can argue busying herself with warfare is an effective way to distract herself.
Don't think it was some senile moment from the old man. This was a very *well calculated move* on George's part and the fact that he chose to focus on just the Maelor part tells you that he has way bigger complaints that he hasn't shared (oh how i wish he does). The fact that he spoiled S3, this blog is like a warning to Ryan Condal to get his shit together.

I bet you he had to fight tooth and nail to include Darron because his addition to the show is so sudden and that I wouldn’t be surprised it was a last minute redo after much back and forth between the writers and GRRM. Seems to me he finally had it with Maelor exclusion.
I knew this was the case when he got angry over Sheepstealer being in the Vale. Was he really angry about the location of the dragon or the possible exclusion of his rider, Nettles? If they are giving her storyline to Rhaena, then I would assume he's pissed about it. I won't even speak on Daemon, a character who happens to be his favorite.

It's even more complex than Blood and Cheese coming across Helaena and her kids randomly. The part of the castle where royals live, Maegor's Holdfast, has the highest security and one controlled entrance in or out. Nobody could sneak into there. But Cheese, as a ratcatcher, knew that Alicent had moved into the Tower of the Hand after Aegon's Coronation to be closer to her father's quarters and let Aegon and Helaena and their children have the King's apartments in Maegor's Holdfast. Cheese also knew of secret passageways within the Tower of the Hand, and he knew that every night Helaena would bring her children to their grandmother to say good night. So he specifically designed a plan where he would guide Blood to Alicent's bedchamber via a secret passageway, where Blood would kill her handmaiden, gag her, and wait for Helaena and her kids to show up. Once they arrived, Blood killed the guard that was with them and him and Cheese seized her two sons, and then they forced her to choose which one be liked to repay the debt of "a son for a son." Helaena offered her life, but they refused, threatening to kill all her children if she didn't pick a son. Helaena chose Maelor, aged two, thinking he might be too young to know what was happening and hoping to spare her oldest son, a terrified six year old, Aegon's heir. Cheese told Maelor, "See? Your mama wants you dead," and then Blood whacked Jaehaerys' head off with his sword as Alicent and Helaena stood screaming.
@@Archihuman Yeah that scene didn't hit me as hard as it should. The two goofs felt like the Home Alone robbers. The actress for Helaena isn't a very strong actor. She didn't sell that tragedy very well. The aftermath was also underwhelming. After the scene was over I didn't really feel much, my reaction was more like "Ok so that happened..."
Dan and Dave had brains enough to follow the source material for the most part and that pretty much ran out in season five. There is no excuse for HoTD when the source material is right there for everyone to read.

I share the same worry about the show ending way too early. The writers think this entire story is completely focused on Rhaenyra and Alicent, when it’s not. They’re going to leave out major moments that really should end the show, but they won’t. The show should end with the reunification of the two sides. Why was alicent sleeping with criston Cole? Why was rhaenyra kissing mysaria? Why did rhaenyra sneak into King's landing to confront alicent? Why did Alicent betray her sons? The show runners are jokers
Alicent betraying her sons was such an insane decision. Regardless of how Fire and Blood is written (with unreliable narrators), making the leader of the greens-in this adaptation-be a victim of the maesters smear campaign is a huge deviation.
Why did every character just forget about the deaths of their children? Rhaenyra did the most cringe turnaround at the end of season 1, looking STRAIGHT into the camera like she's constipated, and then just forgets she was angry lol. Show is mid af.
George R.R martin is right its his world he creates he has every right to share his opinions i understand creative liberty , but its the same reason the original show tank in its last two seasons. Going away from the source material, especially if it's plot changing....these aren't ripple effects, this is changing the shory.....no wonder the guy keep getting writer block because HBO is upending his work that he took years to craft.
But my whole thing is with those final two seasons how could they deviate from The source material when it's material that's not even written yet and that George is actively writing currently. That's just as much George's fault as it is Dan and Dave's

@asimhussain8716 OK in terms of storytelling, i see your point. But I personally appreciate Viserys' decision. He knew none of his male candidates were worthy even when they "grew up" Aegon is kind at heart (when he doesn't grape), but he is drunken fool and can not rule. Daemon/Aemond are too mercurial. She really was the best choice imo. But storytelling wise, i see your point. But I still dislike their characters wholeheartedly.
if you listen to ryan condals interview on the HBO official podcast just a few days ago you'll see that it was a "touchy" subject and it seemed like while she may have indeed been written out of the show it shows that the showrunner is aware of the characters and their impacts and how he uses that to his advtange in a way as he can replace/change the minor/fuzzy details and how the story would be "different" but would still follow the outline of the books.
Can you please help explain why Ryan Condal avoids talking about the Nettles character in interviews? I don't understand the controversy behind it since I'm not a book reader of Fire and Blood.
I remember when this channel constantly blame this season for having 8 episode is the cause for this season bad reception by the audience. Newsflash, the writing & making rhaenyra blameless for all the crime that she'd done in the book is the main reason for the bad reception. Now, even G.R.R. Martin said the same thing.
The 2 characters that led to the Civil War and here the show is trying to show how they are the one looking for peace but people think the reason being 8 episode only and the budget issue. Not a single new character introduced in season 2 left the mark.
4 seasons is not enough to tell the full story Even after rhaenyra died, the conflict continued. Rhaenyra loyalists were still pushing her claim, same with aegon loyalists
@@blackdragon6 if we had gullet in this season maybe 4 seasons were enough. unless they are making crazy change (like grrm said) there is no way this ends in 2 season. so far 2 dragons died and 1 is "injured", by the end 8 times those dragons die so yeah alot is left
What a weak excuse from Ryan, claiming it would cost more to cast another child. Why not cast two kids, using one for both twins with different shots, and then cast the other as Maelor?
I would care a lot more what he had to say if he ever was going to actually finish his book series, but he does crap like this to distract from him failing at his promises to his fans. Finish your damn book series and then complain at everyone else. You know what butterfly effect I am worried about? The butterfly effect that has caused him to give up on actually finishing his work. He distracts everyone that he is never actually finishing those books. He wrote himself into too many corners and now can't get himself out.
As a writer myself, I know I will probably never achieve Martin’s status. That being said, if Hollywood ever approached me for an adaptation of one of my books, I would run away screaming.
I guess you hate money. :) GRRM is well-compensated for his adaptations. This is like feeling bad for George Lucas after Disney paid him a zillion dollars for LucasFilm.
@@MrBrock314 Not feeling bad for Martin in the slightest, to the extent that he's laughing all the way to the bank. But you have to be a complete imbecile to believe that selling your stories to Hollywood doesn't involve the likelihood that producers, directors, and writers will shred your artistic vision and integrity to pieces in favor of their own agenda or activism (or whatever else motivates them).
It's a bit of a silly take, don't you think? Contracts can be negotiated and if you can't negotiate what you want to a T, you can walk out. GRRM is a bit of a hypocrite.
Little changes that could have remained the same pisses me off the most. Like Ravenclaw's mascot being a Raven in the movies and not an eagle like in the Harry Potter books.
No he’s not. He can be unhappy about it all he wants but I’m sure the topic of changes when it came to adapting his works was definitely covered in whatever contracts he signed before HBO had their dump trucks of cash pull into to George’s driveway. He 100% needs to get off blogs and the internet and finish his book.
14:45 Charlie, his criticism of Game of Thrones was ignored by HBO, and look at what happened! I dont think HBO can afford to ignore his criticism for a second time around! I think this was a precursor to potential leaks or "over shares" on his blog and G.R.R.M threatening to spear head an epic disapproval from the fans if they don't do it HIS way!!
Tbf the Helaena in the book didn't peak Maelor because she wanted trick blood and cheese but she did it because since he was only 2 year old he probably didn't even understand what was going on, so that he could have a much more peaceful death, that's why Cheese probably acted in that cruel way when he said to Maelor that his mother wanted him dead (even if it's unknown if he even understood that) before he smiled to Blood that chopped off Jaehaerys head with a single strike. I wanted to point this out because the way you explained it looks like as if Helaena made a cold calculated move while in reality she is way better in the book while she just wanted to protect her children by also offering her own life contrary to the show...
I haven't read the HoD books, but I can understand GRRM getting salty about major character changes (I seem to recall GoT killing off a character that he had plans for in the books, but just hadn't written yet). Its a shame that Ryan didn't shared his plans for replacing Maelor's story with GRRM (although maybe this post prompted him to share it with GRRM so he took it down). One way I can see Ryan tweaking this story change is that Queen Alicent tells Rickard Thorne to take Jaehaera to the Hightower Army and to have Willis Fell take a decoy child to the Baratheon's. In the chaos of Rhaenyra taking King's Landing, the children are swapped without Rickard or Willis knowing so they continue on with their missions. Rickard and the decoy child tragically die at Bitterbrook, but when word of their deaths get back to Queen Alicent she tells Helaena that Jaehaera was killed driving Helaena to kill herself. Given all of the misheard messages Queen Alicent has been party to, this would fit in. Classic literature is filled with tragic mixed up messages like this driving a character to suicide!
My take: he's putting pressure on them so those changes won't be finally made by also including US in this, knowing the huge pressure audiences make on shows. And I'm sure HBO won't like a S8 repeat. /my two cents Thanks for a great video.
NO MORE TIME JUMPS?!?? 😡 So what's the point of this show?! We won't see the end of the Dance of the Dragons. They might as well end it on a cliff hanger at Rhaenyra's death. I agree with GRRM on this
I agree. Imagine something you’ve solely created… and someone else makes changes/tells you what’s what. But then again.. that’s always what happens if you sell your success! Keep it as yours. 😊
Season 2 was awful. I really enjoyed Season 1 but S2 was a mess. They butchered B&C, butchered Alicent (she's completely different from season 1 and the worst depiction of a mother/grandmother I've ever seen), butchered the dragon fight, then we have characters making ridiculous decisions (Rhaenrya going to see Alicent at King's Landing and Alicent sacrificing her children). No one seems to care their children/grandchildren are dead/been murdered. The writers cannot write to save their lives. They need to stop pushing an agenda and write a compelling story. I'm glad GRRM spoke out.
I don’t see Helena being that difficult. Rhaenyra comes in to take over and through the conflict, Helena loses her daughter. She has no children, Aegon is gone, Aemon is gone, etc. depression sets in and she jumps off the ledge.
If he's so mad about the changes that they made don't you think he would have been mad about the changes on game of thrones? It seems like the 7th and 8th season were made up from thin air. I am thinking he is trying to get ahead of something.
12:43 I will say Harrnhall feels way more book accurate and I was fine with daemons arc it just feels like the season ended halfway through. Like it was building up to a massive conclusion and idk if it was the writers strike or what but it kinda just ended lmao
A good observation, because the season was actually cut two episodes short (by HBO or the showrunners, we don't know). Some say for story, others say for budget reasons. S2 as supposed to be 10 episodes long, but was cut to 8.
While Rhae may not be the main character of fire and blood in its entirety (it's literally about the entire Targaryen dynasty) she most definitely is the main character of 'the princess and the queen' (the part of f&b that hotd is based on) so it's not shocking that condal isn't shying away from her being the protagonist. What is shocking though is just how much he's leaning into it, to the point where it really does look like her ending will at least be tweaked. They clearly don't want her death getting anything close to the reaction Dany's got so I get it. Most likely why they've made the prophecy such a big part of her story too. Doesn't mean they can't still have the riots etc, but the reason for them will be different.
I mean it's a bit of both. Authors are often protective of their work where they don't like any changes. However, tv and books are different and SHOULDN"T be adapted in a 1:1 way. The best adapted movies and tv shows have changes that work. Tons of people complained about Tom Bombadil missing in LotR but that didn't stop it from winning 11 Oscars in a single year. The Harry Potter books are different than the movies but the movies are still considered one of the best franchises ever. It's all about making the right changes, even when it will upset people. GRRM doesn't have a huge record of making hit tv shows so he may well be wrong about how to adapt it. He's worried about the story instead of the show. A good story is important but it doesn't have to be a perfect story to be a good show.
The main thing tarnishing his book series is him not finishing it. If it were done and great, his series would be talked about positively. It's the fact that it's incomplete that people complain about.
The show runners have to remember that this is not their creative. This is derivative work of JRRM’s creative. I’m very surprised they aren’t listening to him more about the content before it gets developed. He can see things coming from the context of the bigger picture far better than anyone else.
Mad to hear that GRRM was complaining about them spoiling his creation (GOT), and was ignored.. But then, he has chosen to have more of his work adapted to the screen/collaborate. Glad he is involved, but I too wish he’d be more concerned on finishing the books 😅
Well, people keep wanting GoT shows so you're going to have to pick between a good show now or a good book 10 years from now. He doesn't have time for both.
For a show universe that laid its claim on killing any character and sometimes slaughtering entire sections of the cast (Red Wedding, Sept of Baelor), it's pretty sad to see showrunners pulling back on the danger and shock value of some events. Helaena's Choice could have been even more shocking with her offering up a literal baby and getting the audience to believe they were about to do a GoT S2E1 infanticide. They should be embracing the barbarity and corruption of characters as much as trying to redeem the leads. It was understandable in GoT later seasons since they were moving past the canonical source material (although there was way too much plot armor), but a good show writer would understand how events cascade into other events and know that pulling one jenga brick of plot from the bottom weakens everything after it.
Why is Nettles character such a controversial topic? Also, why does Ryan Condal avoid talking about that specific character in interviews?
3 місяці тому+15
Because she is a character that has direct effect of Dameon’s character and because Rhaena has big influence on how the story ends and her character is nowhere near what nettle’s character is (the show is trying to blend the characters, but book readers know that this is like trying to make oil and water work, it just won’t happen)
Its crazy to me hotd is supposed to have 4 seasons when the og source is a book with 700 pages. The smallest asoiaf book has 700 pages and all the books are kind of 1 season. The stretching in hotd is craaaaazy
HOTD era doesn't start till page 345, aftermath (hour of the wolf) starts page 706. So they don't have much source material F&B is written in a different style isn't the the same as POV chapters like ASOIAF
When will someone answer the question as old as time, why even adapt stories if you're gonna change half the stuff and mess up the story. How hard is it to just follow the story.
@@MrBrock314 changing a story so it fits TV requrements is fine, but butchering the story for the current political agenda or because you think you can improve it (but you obviously can't and shouldn't even try) is not fine.

I’m so glad he spoke out. If I were him I would feel like these shows being bad would put my book selling at risk. I hope he finishes the books of the main story before HBO does more damage to the franchise. I’m afraid for dunk and egg now, and that’s my favorite story 😢
Nobody knows why she chose Maelor, what are you talking about? If she chose Jaehaerys, then Maelor would be an heir. It is STATED that MAYBE she did it because Maelor was younger and would not understand a lot. Maybe cause he was not an heir. And the cruelty of killing the older son was in actual striping her of choice.
Some of the changes are actually poor choices story wise, but efficient logistically. I get why GRRM is mad, but I have to say he kinda sounds like a grumpy old man in his blog post. That said, Alicent’s son Daeron being suddenly mentioned in season 2 when we never saw or heard from him before is also weird. The choices they made for these characters is clearly logistical ones. I guess they didn’t want to cast two whole child actors when they weren’t even sure of the show’s future.
Frl it’s sad they basically told him to shut up and deal with them running his own creations and putting there own spin to it this man already wrote how it ends is it really that hard to follow what’s already done George really just gotta put his foot down then cause they walking all over him
Thank you for showing the original post in your video, i know you explained it, but i still like being able to pause and read it for my self, thank you.
No problem! I'll do more House Of The Dragon Season 3 videos when we get more details. We'll also get another trailer for Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms too!
The thing is people are undermining GRRM's complaints even after he explained it very clearly but Maelor is not a small change at all. Besides his importance in B&C his is death is the reason of so many characters' actions. With his removal Helaena's suic*de won't have the same effect and the riots will most likely be for another reason like tg propaganda (if they even happen at all). Daeron won't have a reason to burn down Bitterbridge so they probably will just make him another ruthless green and he will do it for no particular reason or for something stupid (i heard some people say Otto or Gwayne will be murdered in Bitterbridge instead of Maelor and that will be Daeron's reason but the murder of a grown man during war just isn't the same as the brutal murder of a child so Daeron's actions will be extreme and indefensible).I feel like budget is only and excuse and they are removing Maelor to not make Rhaenyra look bad. Bitterbridge is most likely the worst thing tb is responsible for and they can't find a way to make it a "mistake" as they did with B&C. The whole purpose of F&B was that all characters were morally grey who had both good and bad in them but HOTD made it just good vs evil which is such a wasted opportunity.
Yes, but all of these are fixable problems with re-writing. People pretend like there's only one way for the plot to go but that's never true. You can write yourself out of any box.
Looking back, I'm even seeing more flaws from S1 not be fixed in s2. A grievance that I, and many others have, is the writers not understanding that Rhaenyra is a villain or at least a gray character. It's like this show wants to create a "strong woman hero" and ignores the true essence of GRRM/ASOIAF universe - gray morality and no true heroes. There's also the issue of favoring the Blacks when the books show that BOTH sides are toxic. I think some of the changes from the source material work - like having Jace's death be a sort-of accident adds depth to Aemond's character. And even GRRM himself said he liked their interpretation of Viserys' character better than the one he wrote. But others simply don't work, and often reflect the writers' agendas and biases. Disorganization seems to be the downfall of this season. It's a shame, because I really wanted to enjoy it.
Maybe the writers should write based on the source material instead of their fanfiction. Then, there would be no complaints from GRRM. You can still make good 8 episodes. Having 10 episodes don't mean good season if the writing sucks.
but 10 episodes wont have added the third child which went missing, it wont add any agency to daemon's character, all it would do was end the season with gullet not let us have a dissapointing ending. like they will have all the wars and deaths in this show but they will destroy the path to those deaths because writers dont wanna take risks
Now I HAVE to read the book to see what the story really is. 😡 Why do screen writers think they're better story than tellers than the author who wrote the story people fell in love with. 🙄 It's maddening. I still haven't gotten over what they did years ago transferring the story of "Wolfen" to the screen. They totally wrote another story & just kept the character names. Years later I'm STILL angry over that one. 😡
Here’s the thing, he signed that contract, probably had his very good lawyer look it over and now he’s annoyed? Either negotiate for more loyalty to the source, become a writer or let it go. I agree with him, but he could have had more control
Two things: 1. that contract could have been from before GoT 2. they will not let people have control over what they are adapting anymore, studios are money hungry a-holes and do not care about authors and during season 1 of both GoT and HOTD the showrunners did a ok-decent job and afterwards ignored him but at that point all was signed and it was too late
I agree with GRRM and I don’t get why they cut Maelor. It can’t be budget because Maelor is a little kid that doesn’t even need any lines. All they had to do was throw a wig on a sleeping baby in a cradle. One scene with a sleeping baby couldn’t have broke the budget. So I’m thinking Ryan must of had another reason for leaving him out. But just look how much Maelor the missing changed the blood n chz scene. It was completely different just because the baby wasn’t there. And that’s just the beginning, it’s going to lead to many major changes. I’m surprised GRRM didn’t complain about Nettles. Because that also creates a big butterfly effect. I think GRRM has every right to complain and I’m glad to hear his honesty. I felt like he didn’t complain enough when GOT went off the rails and ruined his story.
Its good to see George writing again, But maybe less bitching in his blog and a little more work on winds of winter since we're coming up to 4 presidential terms since his last book
Couldn’t agree more - they even say they didn’t want to invalidate our choices but that’s crazy because that’s all it’s done… all the cameos, to the extent there are many, will feel hallow because they can’t reference anything. I guess it’s good for new fans, but they might not even play if OG players say it’s not worth it… and they didn’t even have to do much ! Just a line a dialogue or codex entry … a letter - just give us something, I love dragon age because I love to see how my world state evolves over time and the different story lines of each game and now I don’t have that it makes me feel disconnected from the game… and sure I’m happy for Solas fans and those that romanced him they seem like they are getting a true sequel …. And I’m excited to see how that story plays out too, but to ignore all the important things to many of us that have come before? It’s just not acceptable and indefensible in my eyes ….
This series was so good the first half of season 1 before the time jump and change of characters. Ever since the second half of season 1 it feels like the show writers and producers weren’t able to get the show back on the tracks. It’s sad really but the way the ended GOT I was half expecting this.

I said from day one I thought the Blood Cheese scene was way watered down while almost everyone else was raving about how great it was. There was no shock like in the book scene.
@@MrBrock314 The drama in the book was in making Helena choose between her youngest and eldest son. In the show there is no youngest son , just a twin sister, so that already ruined it because it makes no sense.. The shock or twist is when Blood killed the boy she didn't choose. It was sudden an unexpected. The show scene had none of that.
'The Rhaenyra Show' is bad fan fiction at this point not even loosely based on the Fire&Blood book. Thought it was about GRRMs story of the Targaryen civil war, about how thirst for power can tear entire families apart, but the show butchered the lore and focused on other modern day issues. Only the names and places remind us of the book’s story and maybe some of the events but they’re significantly changed for the worse. "Ignore canon and the world you have created will tear like tissue paper" were some of George’s comments throwing shade on the show’s writing team.
He needs to move his stuff to netflix or amazon if hbo can't afford to bring his books to the screen. Netflix will gladly dish out billions for anything game of thrones
I want to show sympathy for the writers because of the writer strike. But all I wanted is for the war to really get going this season, And they made Rhaenyra sympathetic, it could have been better if they made viewers choose a side, because in the books both sides were horrible.
They had an entire story. A WHOLE narrative arc. A complete idea merely in need of simple transcription, and they gave us this. These people HAVE to be high. They are operating well outside of their depth.
But at the same time, Joffrey talks about how Rhaenyra dies, so I don't really think the show would create a gigantic rift in the previous storyline. She's still going to die the way it was stated in the books, but the showrunners could make her die a different way and cover it up as "it was written into history in a different way." Still, the reason Rhaenyra dies is because she's such a different person than how she's actually portrayed in the show, so it doesn't make sense that she would just die according to the book.

You should be the producer
Trying 2 show they r the characters with the most reason and compassion, yet they r the reason for every drop of blood spilled
Maybe the producers should stick to the books since its already written@@juzzytin86
Why is Nettles an important character ??
Blood and cheese episode should've been as shocking as red wedding. The changes that they made turned it into just another death scene.

Amazon isn't doing anything particularly bad to RoP. It's a fine show. Not the best, but it's ok.

I’m tired of show runners thinking they can do better they really think they are geniuses but they expose themselves when they do this.
Im glad he’s speaking up. They already ruined one of his works. Why would he stand by while they do it again
No, that's not how it works. GRRM sold the rights, it's now theirs. The book is his, the show is theirs.
Lol, Naked mommy therapy always helps! Sometimes you say the best $hit!! Thank you Charlie!
@@MrBrock314 I know. But it’s already been 10 years.. and GOT ended in 2019 too. I just don’t think he’s doing himself any favours lol
Because she is a character that has direct effect of Dameon’s character and because Rhaena has big influence on how the story ends and her character is nowhere near what nettle’s character is (the show is trying to blend the characters, but book readers know that this is like trying to make oil and water work, it just won’t happen)
You just slash some of Nettles' story and write Rhaena a new one. Writers do this all the time. It is what they're paid for.
Thanks!
I think they are afraid to do it because it is difficult for them to to do it accurately without it seeming “politically incorrect “
As a non-book reader I really enjoyed this season. I don't mind some of the grosser aspects being toned down in order to focus on the politics.
I'm pretty sure he was told to delete his post.
So they don't have much source material F&B is written in a different style isn't the the same as POV chapters like ASOIAF
been watching your vids since the flash , great videos always
Awesome, thanks!
Is there anywhere i can read the blog ???
When will someone answer the question as old as time, why even adapt stories if you're gonna change half the stuff and mess up the story. How hard is it to just follow the story.
Adapting a story literally means changing the story. It's fine to change stories and it's important to do so a lot of the time. Books are not tv.
If they can do this to GRRM, I worry much about JRR Tolkien who can longer speak for himself on RoP
RoP is pretty by the book minus the time warping. The story of the rings is very much similar in the books.
Deep appreciation for your recent video, your commitment to excellence is truly admirable.
Frl it’s sad they basically told him to shut up and deal with them running his own creations and putting there own spin to it this man already wrote how it ends is it really that hard to follow what’s already done George really just gotta put his foot down then cause they walking all over him
They're not his creations once he sold the rights.
@@MrBrock314 dude STFU go touch some grass loser
@@MrBrock314 you replying to a old post get a life
Thank you for showing the original post in your video, i know you explained it, but i still like being able to pause and read it for my self, thank you.
Thank you
No problem! I'll do more House Of The Dragon Season 3 videos when we get more details. We'll also get another trailer for Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms too!
My biggest grievances: Rhayenira and Haelena immediately moving on from the death of their children, and completely cut out Pact of Ice and Fire.
The small folk are impossible to please. I'm sorry, but Danny made the right choice :P
Thanks Charlie x
No problem!
I just feel bad to the showrunner and hbo for getting 10 episodes for not each season no thanks to David zazlov
That's a bummer
Maybe the writers should write based on the source material instead of their fanfiction. Then, there would be no complaints from GRRM. You can still make good 8 episodes. Having 10 episodes don't mean good season if the writing sucks.
but 10 episodes wont have added the third child which went missing, it wont add any agency to daemon's character, all it would do was end the season with gullet not let us have a dissapointing ending. like they will have all the wars and deaths in this show but they will destroy the path to those deaths because writers dont wanna take risks
@@shafikah3340 GRRM has no real power over the show. That's how selling the rights to a show works. It's their show.
Cause it's their money they're investing into making the show and pay the author a cut? It's childish to complain about something like that.
Here’s the thing, he signed that contract, probably had his very good lawyer look it over and now he’s annoyed? Either negotiate for more loyalty to the source, become a writer or let it go. I agree with him, but he could have had more control
Two things:
1. that contract could have been from before GoT
2. they will not let people have control over what they are adapting anymore, studios are money hungry a-holes and do not care about authors and during season 1 of both GoT and HOTD the showrunners did a ok-decent job and afterwards ignored him but at that point all was signed and it was too late
This is what happens when you sell your creation 🤷🏼♀️😊
I was once a sweet summer child and thought he’d actually finish the book series, just as I thought Blood &cheese would be incredible.
Poor Ryan , stuck between Zaslav and GRRM 😂
Yes! 😂
He should be focusing on releasing books before he dies but no here we have him yapping on the internet.
This series was so good the first half of season 1 before the time jump and change of characters. Ever since the second half of season 1 it feels like the show writers and producers weren’t able to get the show back on the tracks. It’s sad really but the way the ended GOT I was half expecting this.
What are you talking about? The 2nd half of season 1 earned awards.
Great breakdown Charlie
Is there a place to read the post now
I find it amusing that in 2024 people still believe that if they delete their blog postings, no one will ever see it 😂
HBO reps read it and told him to cease and desist for contractual reasons
He’s not dumb he knows that people would record his statements in some manner. He only needed to have it up for a few hours then save face by deleting it
I said from day one I thought the Blood Cheese scene was way watered down while almost everyone else was raving about how great it was. There was no shock like in the book scene.
You're a bit desensitized if a beheaded child isn't a shock to you.
The show scene had none of that.
hi Emergency Awesome
yo!
Idk why it’s so hard to stay true to the books
Production issues, and probably mainstream coddling mostly.
I would end it with the winner setting on the throne, telling them to bring in the last dragon thats as small as a cat
He needs to move his stuff to netflix or amazon if hbo can't afford to bring his books to the screen.
Netflix will gladly dish out billions for anything game of thrones
the question is would netflix give him complete creative control
Yes @@eskanda3434
I want to show sympathy for the writers because of the writer strike. But all I wanted is for the war to really get going this season, And they made Rhaenyra sympathetic, it could have been better if they made viewers choose a side, because in the books both sides were horrible.
I think season 3 is going to start with a banger until the finale ! When we bave to wait for the next season battles
I think we will get too much council scenes like 2 previous boring seasons
They had an entire story. A WHOLE narrative arc. A complete idea merely in need of simple transcription, and they gave us this.
These people HAVE to be high. They are operating well outside of their depth.
If anyone has the right to critique the show it's the man, the myth, the legend himself G.R.R.M
