I carried Powertac as my edc in plainclothes daily before I really learned about candela
I love the Powertac still as the UI is great---mode memory is everlastng and customer service is off the charts
I still have about 7 of them including three of the E9R-G4 ----the M5-G3 (27K) has more candela then the E9R-G4 (10k)
Its still a great a LED option-----in this LEP train we are just getting on
for filter attachments---plastic bottle caps-----red ie coke, sprite--green, etc fit the 26mm head for a short term option

I've had a handful of "good" lights, and I've been super happy with Fenix. Not to dissuade anyone from these lights, just sharing my mileage.
What I found was most important to me was a tailswitch, the ability to halfpress for momentary and a dedicated cycle switch. I don't care for an adjustable beam (twist the head to increase throw like say a Maglight). Brightness, throw and flood are to taste by user, but I tend to enjoy a balance. I've noticed they're all nearly identical in build material and also durability, even the more affordable options like Coast. The aluminum chassis is pretty easy to manufacture and it's pretty hard to beat without material improvement. As for brightness, I've never needed nor wanted more than about the 1,200 or so lumens advertised on box. For what I use them for, usually indoors or for work with mechanical projects, anything more is downright overpowering and unnecessary. User taste will vary.
I've punished my lights with drops and full submersion in water and they all still keep trucking with ZERO replacement of O-rings or lubrication. I have had no issues whatsoever, but I could be lucky.
I used to daily a Fenix PD35 but got sick of the bulk and how often I turned it down for work. I currently daily a Fenix RC05 SE and have been very content, to the point when I misplaced and thought I'd lost one I bought another the same day. It's just a company that's built lights that do what I want, how I want and when I need. For brightness comparison I went from a 1,200 lumen max to a 300 lumen max and have been completely content for what I need from a light.
I don't have the means to measure for accuracy of claim, but I can say that my little light's 300 lumens feels better than the Black Diamond headlamp I have which also claims 300 lumens, though the headlamp is more flood than throw.
And per the "secret sauce" battery claim: you're dead on. Some companies have some voodoo with their batteries, and I found myself using Fenix's batteries even in my vape because they were better than the batteries I was getting. Not a shill, not paid to be here, I just found what worked for me.

Gear is definitely a personal preference. I actually had some Fenix lights to include the PD35. Ironically, it's one of the ones that would consistently turn on in my pocket or battle belt. I also have found that I prefer the direct Strobe option as opposed to the rapid half press.
Specializing in training where we put people in stressful conditions, I like not having to worry about doing multiple presses. Something I didn't cover in the video is that if you hold the selector button while the light is on, the E9 will also go into Strobe mode.
Either way, the good news is there's a lot of light options out there. I just find that I'm absolutely impressed with the E9 compared to pretty much all other lights out there. But it may not be the best fit for all. Hell, even on the powertac Facebook page, there are ppl commenting that they prefer the powertac M5.
Whatever light someone chooses, they key is training and maintenance.
Thanks for watching and i appreciate your input!

@@SPG1Tactical Actually a tip I learned for camping to prevent lights from accidentally turning on is to halfway twist them to disengage from the battery! Just enough so when you press the button they don't turn on. Obviously not something you'd do for a defense light, but something I still do for a light in a bag.

My Powertac M5 has been a great edc light, but the bezel chewed through my jeans pocket in a few months….

Is it possible to sharpen the bezel?

...I mean... I'm sure you could with a dremel, but I'm not sure it's needed and would potentially make it more uncomfortable for you to carry. Plus the whole legal defense factor if you do use it for self defense, how that could be portrayed. But I'm sure it could be done

Are the 18650 flashlight body's worth the larger diameter overall vs a 16650

    • @SPG1Tactical
      @SPG1Tactical  Рік тому +1

That's a great question. The diameter difference is only 2 mm, but the 18650s have more mAh than the 16650. In fact, this flashlight can use cr123a with is what the 16650 I'd really meant to replace, but because of the difference in amperage ratings won't be able to get as bright. As far as being "worth it", I suppose that's a subjective question, but I feel that the 18650s from Powertac provide a super strong option in a reasonably sized profile.

Absolutely. Moving forward, I truly feel many companies will be moving forward to 18650's for the "Horsepower" so to speak versus other batteries. I believe Powertac is just ahead of the curve.
