Ed from Cali, Welcome to the channel brother! The Pro 51 has been an excellent wheelset that I’d highly recommend. I’m currently building a *new Bike as we speak and the Pro 51s will be on there, 🙂 #RobbArmstrong
Robb my man, you saved me $2665 on a pair of DT SWISS ERC 1400 DICUT Wheels! These wheels are half of that price. I really enjoyed your review, and found the hub upgrade information very valuable. Thanks for putting this video together.
That’s awesome Brother!! I’m coming up on a 1000miles on the wheelset and I’m putting together a Part III video and speak on my tubeless endeavors, 😬 #RobbArmstrong
These wheels are magic sauce. They hit every parameter. I'm on aeolus pro 37 currently; on a tricked out '21 Emonda SL. I think I just might have to suck up the upgrade cost and jump on these wheels. I already run 28/30mm TL @ 60psi, and that's already a plush ride! One aspect that most people don't consider is the handling improvement of the bike: with a streched tire on the wheel, you will have a more responsive ride- that can carve a corner sharper.
Sent the wrong tires….twice! 😱 lol. Glad the tan sidewalls finally came in! They look legit! Those 31s!!! 😅 65psi ❤️ man, I’m jealous bro!!! #Trek#Emonda
25PSI 😳 That's a lot! I check my air pressure every time I ride and after a few days (2-3) it does go down but never 25PSI. Is that both tubes are just one doing that? #RobbArmstrong
I’m waiting for my wheels to come in. I ended up going with a 51 front 62 rear setup. I’m going to try out the 36 ratchet that comes with the 240 freehub, and decide if I want to change to the 54. Great video! Can’t wait to see the full build video. The only other aesthetic upgrade I’ve done is got the Ceramicspeed OSPW, and got a gloss black seatpost mast. Looking for some more ideas.
NICE!! That’ll be a dope setup (51 front, 62 rear). If you want a lil bling check out Carbon TI. I have a DuraAce inner chainring but a CarbonTI outter and I love it! I think it shifts better than DuraAce. #RobbArmstrong
The new Madone is SICK!! I want an Aero bike as well, 🥹 I haven’t been riding my TT bike much since I returned stateside. I may convert it to an Aero bike as a Project, 🤫🤐 #RobbArmstrong
Will keep you posted. I’m thinking of going Project One SLR9 Di2 with this build. Because I hate having all of these extra parts by upgrading everything afterwards.
What saddle did you settle on? Not sure if I missed it on your part 1 or this video but have you decided on which saddle you're sticking with? I'm debating between the Spez Power Expert, Aeolus Elite or the Selle Italia SLR.
The infamous saddle, 😆 I rode all those saddles you mentioned. The one I chose is the Bontrager Verse saddle/135mm. I’m getting along WELL with it. I have the *Comp Version on my Zwift trainer bike. The *Elite version on my Aero bike, and the *Carbon version on my Trek Emonda. All in the 135mm width. It’s a great saddle! #RobbArmstrong
What do you think about thermoplastic tubes vs latex ? I have the pro 51s and got a pinch flat already using one of the schwalbe aerothane tubes . Thanks !
Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with those types of tubes but the latex tubes are NICE! They roll better and feel nicer on the road. When I was using my standard tubes, I would put 2oz’s on Stan’s sealant in them for additional protection. Could be an added security for you or at least worth a try. #RobbArmstrong
@@RobbArmstrong1 Have you ever tried tubeless? I was considering just bypassing tubes altogether. But I am still debating if I should have gotten the Aeolus Pro 37 as I want something that climbs really well. Still not sure. How have you felt these handle on climbs from your experience? I'm also considering the 36T ratchet from the 18T but not sure if it will make that much difference for how I ride. I just ride for exercise, no racing.
I’d highly recommend the Pro 51s‼️ You get the best of both worlds Climbing/Aero. The wheels climb exceptionally well. I personally would not buy the 37s. #RobbArmstrong
hey rob great story .so tell me are those zipp 858 nsw hydra .could u give me info were i can get a pair of zipp wheel set preferably with black tites bc i dont like the tan.thanks R.kelly H.usmc-retired
Hi Rob, you know the Aeolus 51 advertises 36t 240 DT Swiss, however that Aeolus 51 that comes with the Trek Madone SLR 7, Gen 6 has the cheap 24t ratchet, i double checked on the website and they conveniently left out the hub specs, so if you buy the wheels separate you get the 36t but if you buy the bike with those wheels you get the 24t ratchet, anyway thanks for your help
🤯, that’s crazy!! I bought my Pro 51s second hand and they came with the 18T ratchet, ☹️ I also bought some second hand RSL 51s, which came with 36T. But I’ve replaced both ratchet systems now, 🙂 #RobbArmstrong
I noticed that someone else asked a question about your saddle choice and I had a question about it as well. I had the Bontrager Aeoulus Pro saddle and recently switched to the Aeolus RSL saddle. But for my new bike build I wanted to go with a Selle Italia or a Fizik saddle. And I wanted to know how those compare to the Bontrager saddle in your opinion?
The infamous saddle…. 😑 I’ve been on so many saddles, it’s ridiculous!! I didn't like the Bontrager Aeoulus, ☹it had way too much curve for me. Currently I’m riding the Bontrager Verse saddle. I have the Comp version on my Trainer and Aero bike and the Carbon version on my road bike. All three are 135mm wide. Tried the 145mm and didn't like it. It’s working for me but at the moment but I wish it were *FlatFlat 👈🏽 I prefer a narrow, no curvature, with a cutout saddle. I just haven't found the perfect one yet. I’ve tried like four(4) Fizik saddles and the best one (for me) was/is the Arione R1, which is narrow and *flat flat, it jus long as hell!! 😂. I still have that saddle and every now and then I throw it on the bike. Selle Italia makes 🗣 A LOT!! of nice saddles with a huge set of options. I've tried about four or so of theirs as well. I currently have one I'm testing out. It's the SLR TEKNO SUPERFLOW. Its *super minimal and weighs 106 grams! I like it, but trying to find the right height and angle combo for max comfort. If I had to guess... I've probably tried at least 25 different saddles, 🤷🏾♂I should make a video about my saddle journey, lol #RobbArmstrong
I have the same wheel set. You might be destroying the aero benefit of the front wheel with the 30" tires. Trek says this wheelset is optimized for 25in. tires. I currently run 25" gp5000s on the front and 28" in the rear. The 25 in the front measures 28 once inflated and installed so still very comfy and grippy. The Rule of 105 states that the rim must be at least 105% the width of the tire if you have any chance of re-capturing airflow from the tire and controlling or smoothing it.
Robb just got my wheels since I saw your first video! It was really good to help me make my decision on them! It does handle wind impressively good, specially when I’m going like 40/50km and It does an amazing job Next will the update for the 54 teeth cause I also want a better sound 🙌🏼 🔥 keep posting mate

The 800 oclv is what’s up‼️If you want a *louder hub you’ll have to upgrade the ratchet system. I talk about it in the “Part I (1)” video below. The upgrade process is easy and *very straightforward, 😎 #RobbArmstrong ua-cam.com/video/WoC3jZVQ9e8/v-deo.html
