what he says about the electrical adapter there is not at all correct. having said that..... here in australia we use 240V. and I have four 12V to 240V INVERTERS as they are called. and a few 12V standalone (deep cycle battery) solar systems. what do you thinks running this laptop. 200Ah of 12V deep cycle batteries running a 200W pure sine wave inverter.
I know that we can't use a transformer alone to convert DC to AC (that's not how a transformer works), but who cares , this is a comedy show.
you can simply just use a 12 volt transformer in reverse and get its input voltage as the output voltage as long as the 12v input is AC and is not a iron core transformer not a switch mode one but the show isant about whats correct

the basic idea seems interesting. but the practicality is lacking some engineering.
