Learning from the mistakes of the first generation, Hyundai elevates their first premium offering up a few notches with more of everything. With available AWD, plentiful standard and available luxury features, and a price point that undercuts major competitors by as much as 20 grand, those of you shopping for a mid-size luxury sedan should put the Genesis at the top of your list, just as long as brand cachet isn't your highest priority.
I actually bought this car about a month ago. It really is a nice car. You don't get blown away at first blush, but the more you drive it, the more you will like it. Lots of little details done well. Our family has tried all sorts of quasi-luxury cars (mercedes, volvo, infiniti, lexus, and even a lincoln) but for this price point - which you can negotiate way below msrp - you'll be enjoying the opposite of buyer's remorse. If they keep the pricing low and keep improving these cars, I don't think we will ever go back to any other brand.
Good for you. I think people are too brand loyal. Or caught up with the badge. They are missing out on fine cars because of such things. Every brand makes good and bad products.
Hold the mode button and it switches to SNOW mode.
Did it have any problems? Or needed exessive maintenance?
@@LittleJooo No longer have it. Traded it in a few years back, so I can't comment on long term reliability. But we had zero problems. No maintenance beyond the basics. The one thing that my wife didn't like was she felt the seat moved slightly when making turns. I never noticed it, but the wife did. Didn't affect the controls or adjustment mechanism, so the dealer didn't pay any attention to it. I would imagine nothing like that affects the newer Genesis cars. It was a great looking car.
@tomryou oh alright, thanks for the info
Hyundai and Kia are stepping up their game. Their cars are gorgeous.
I'm still rolling with my 2015 3.8 AWD with sign/tech packages! So far, the best car I've owned!
I just got the 2016 version and I loveeeeee this carrrrr
Yup got a 2015 ultimate package last year absolutely love it
How's gas for you
I like this guy ,he make you LOOK at the car. He is crafted in his skill
Just like Samsung, Hyundai is making the Germans and Japanese quake in their boots. Can't rule out the South Koreans anymore.
They throw a lot of toys in. But the build quality of the parts that matter still isn't up to Japanese standard, that is what your paying for with Toyota etc. They last a lot longer.
I would've agreed with you years ago. but it seems that Hyundai and Kia seem to be comparable, quality and price.
Maintanence costs don’t seem to be all that bad either.
@@glendaly6367 that's exactly what I said. After reading multiple reviews from all the reputable sites, I had a hard time grasping the fact that hyundai/Kia were ranked high as far as reliability and performance because of the past. Koreans bringing that heat.
@@BlatentlyFakeName not true 2015 G80 in 2020 break the legs of BMW Benz and Audi.
Just one of many things "Magna"
My wife and I love our 2015 Genesis! It was the first year of this model and ours has the Ultimate package too. Also, a great price on it’s Certified dealer offering.
I own a 2012 fully loaded Genesis that I totally love, but it does have a few short comings. With this new model Genesis they have totally, and completely addressed these issues. The multiple mode transmission fixes the slow shifting issue in my car. The increase in torque fixes the slight lag in traffic that sometimes occurs when you step on the gas. The center stack is so much more attractive than mine, and a feature that greatly improves the look of the dash! The quality of my car is excellent, and it sounds like they have even improved on that! By the way, on the freeway at a steady 70 mph, I get 32 mpg!! That is truly amazing for a car this size! Now, if I could only make my wife understand how badly we need this new model!!!!
16:48 I like how you can actually see the Vee of the V6, that's really cool, surprisingly unique compared to most plastic covered engine bays.
You know this car is very good when he has a lot praise than criticism! I'm use to him just ripping different car, so you know this one must be special.
I LOVE this luxury sport beast! You get everything you could possibly want for an everyman’s budget. AWD FOR ME!
Exceptional review, perhaps in the future you could touch on the maintenance requirements of the vehicles you review too?
Just bought one. Love it.
Where do the licence plates go?
Ik some that dont have the licence plate in the front, including me, here in WI nobody seems to care.
Brannon Hudson my dad jus bought one, we love it
I like your car reviews the best because you give honest opinions. other car reviewers never say anything bad about the car like they are trying to sell it to you on a Craigslist meet. btw don't apologize for being nitpicky, that's a good thing when car reviewing
the engine is so quiet, love it, love the look, interior, exterior, perfect car.
Thanks again. Went with the 2016 Genesis 3.8 AWD w/ ultimate, signature and technology package! Loving it !
I'm looking at a 2015 ultimate package might buy it tomorrow do you recommend
@@mccraejoey82 I love the car. I think the ultimate package is the way to go for sure. If it’s got good mileage and car history enjoy!!!!
Great review, as always! I love how in-depth your videos are - it's a lot more useful than most other peoples' 5-minute reviews that basically just list a few good things and a couple bad things about the car. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching! As always, we appreciate all the feedback we get from you guys!
@@theredline just picked up a used fully loaded AWD 3.8 in the extremely rare Ibiza blue. Under 20k! With only 50k miles. This car has everything you could want in a car. Im so happy I found it! Do a flashback 5 year review for the used market. Prices for this car around 50k miles start around 16k! Insane
I think with ambient lighting becoming an increasingly popular interior style feature, it would be very interesting to see/hear your opinion about them in your upcoming videos! Some companies definitely do it better than others.
Never left a comment before but I started watching your videos early on when you started and now I am eagerly waiting each week for your videos. I am truly a fan and hope you maintain the same level of quality in your videos as you have now
Wish I needed such a large luxe auto....My Kia Optima EX is still just what I need...with only 32,000 miles. Great review as always!
This is my car. I have the 3.8L Ibiza Blue Ultra model. I love it! I'm returning my leased version and purchasing a used lease return with 27k miles for $24,500. Great value. Great review.
Were you impressed with the 3.8 L V6 power output how’s the acceleration ? is the power overall OK or is good for what it is , also how is the fuel economy is it Soso or good? Does eco mode make a big difference?
@@mikexcanxjerk yes. It is a great car. You should be able to get a great deal on new or used. I wish Ali waited a couple months.
Good review. Bought a 2016 with tech pkg used with about 35k miles. Cost about half msrp originally, which was 47k. On the one longer drive we took from Palm Beach to Tampa and back we averaged a tad over 29mpg. And - I LIKE THAT CHIME! 🤪
Very good review, Genesis is a very nice car, with this price you can not go wrong. I am driving my second 2015 Genesis, . Every time I drive this car , it is a joy ride for me.
Toyota = Lexus
Honda = Acura
Nissan = Infiniti
VW = Audi and Porsche
GM = Cadillac
Ford = Lincoln
Every luxury car company has a parent company . . .
So for all the "Brand Snobs" they said the same when Toyota brought Lexus to North America as well . . .
What's your point?
My point was clearly made and explained. But "Brand Trolls" such as yourself will never be content or satisfied regardless of anything this company does now or in the future.
Herc Zeus As you stated some luxurious car brands are owned by lesser brands. Which is true. However these car brands have made a name for themselves.
Audi = quality, technology
Porsche = sport
Lexus = quality, soft
What does Genesis have? Luxury buyers aren't looking for value, they're looking for emotion.
I never said I don't like the car or brand, I actually quite like it. It just doesn't offer anything special other than value, which most luxury buyers aren't looking for.
Joshua R Some? Almost all of them are.
Audi & Porsche = Recalls as they share parts and platforms for the most part with VW (Emissions Recall). And high repair costs if you own the car for years rather than lease it.
Lexus used to equal quality. Not so much anymore these days. The quality has gone down hill since Toyota was racing to become #1 in sales and major recalls happened as a eventual result.
Genesis is a new luxury car company. And I wouldn't say it's a value brand either. They have hired all the right people to run it.
BMW M VP of Engineering Albert Biermann.
Luc Donckerwolke head of Bentley design team.
Peter Schreyer head of Audi design team.
Manfred Fitzgerald formerly director of brand and design at Lamborghini to run the new brand.
Lotus Racing to tune the cars on the famous Nuremberg track.
You can't start at the top or near the top on Day 1. The lineup isn't even established yet. 6 cars by 2020 and more to follow.
And luxury buyers such as myself for instance have been raped for years even though I lease them and don't carry them for more than 2 years.
Hell my cardiologist just bought a G80 after being hosed down for the last time after his year old BMW 7 Series gave up on him. And they told him he needed a new Transmission.
Herc Zeus I agree with almost everything you said, expect for the Lexus and being raped part.
Lexus' quality is up there with the big boys. The RX has better interior materials than the X5 and GLE.
I don't mean to be negative but, Hyundai hasn't been that reliable either. With issues from squeaks to transmissions. Of course these are early problems likely to be resolved in the coming years.
My dad has a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Htrac with the top of the line ultimate. He has the same exterior color. But his has the Ivory interior. He loves it he got it in Dec of 2014.
Really like these things, props to Hyundai
Probably the best car review I've seen yet! Great job!!
that entrance music was boss tho
engine sounds like a mercedes m272. i love that sound.
very nice review... just got g80 (pretty much the same car as 2016 model) ... for the price of $425/0 down lease no other brand come even close... beautiful, performing car overall
I think the target audience for this car is still aimed at older people. No sport package or anything to make it more interesting, like aggressive styling or better handling. This car is definitely tuned to be a cruiser.
So many ignorant people expressing opinions here, but worse yet, some are passing off unfounded opinions as fact. Not many here, I would guess have actually spent time and money on both sides of this equation and truly have a perspective that can be trusted. I have, and can tell you that the Hyundai Genesis, and the upcoming Genesis G80 is a luxury vehicle that has truly arrived, giving up almost nothing other that time built cachet to the other established luxury brands. I own a 2015 Genesis Ultimate, and have for 15 months now and this car just gets better and better with each month of ownership! Took and 8 hour trip to Atlanta last week in it, and absolutely enjoyed every minute of the drive. Car was loaded with 4 passengers total and a trunk full of vacation bags and the car handled this weight with such graceful confidence, and quiet balance and performance! On many occasions of open highway I was able to quietly cruise competently and confidently over 90mph, cutting the 8 hour trip down to a 7 hour trip. The technology in the car is first class and I am ready to admit it is the best overall luxury vehicle I have owned, surpassing my previous favorite Infiniti.
Traded 2012 C250 sedan for this car (2015). I will never go for a different luxury brand until I’m wealthy. This car is literally perfect.
bubba4lyfe19 how's the gas mileage on v6 ?
Miko_Pure it’s not the greatest to be honest but I’d say good enough to be a daily driver
bubba4lyfe19 I mean it is a v6 not a v4 , I'm not expecting the greatest MPG , but for natural aspirated v6 is it good ? When you fill up how many range miles does the car give you? And how's the power is it okay ? , is it suprisingly good ?
Miko_Pure man the power is ridiculous. And I drive like a demon and fill up like every week and a half. It could go way longer driving normal. When I fill up it ranges but usually around 400 miles and some change. It makes so many bmw and merc drivers uncomfortable
bubba4lyfe19 damn over 400 range miles , that's reaaaal nice , yeah I was deciding this or a Chrysler 300 (S) , the genesis has 311 horses and almost 300 on ft of torque , best bang for the buck
Just subscribed. One of the best car reviewers on UA-cam.
I think these age very well.
And they will age very well
I have a 2016 and loving it
What an absolutely great review. Thank you!!
i agree bro..
7 years ago today, I buy 16' Hyundai Genesis.
Best review out there really insightful and in-depth. Still debating on my head if I should get this or a bmw, the hyundai brand and customer service kinda brings genesis down imo but damn this car has some really gorgeous lines.
Genesis logo in the front and Hyundai logo in the back. Hmm...interesting design choice.
Idk why but we have a 2015 black genesis and it has the logo on the front and rear. I think it was selective
I agree looks cheap
We find a lot of owners replace the lone Hyundai logo with a Genesis emblem, good thing that change will be implemented for 2017 when Genesis becomes their own brand.
It's not their choice, owners can debage or rebadge. Mine came with Genesis logos and everyone asks what it is. Soon they'll all be renamed (G70, 80, 90) and only have the Genesis logo so it'll be less confusing.
This Hyundai Genesis will be renamed in 2017 as Genesis G80.
thank's, helpful review. I'm about to buy one, very excited about it. Learned tings I didn't know, even from driving one for about 3 weeks as a rental. I appreciate your informative and well put together review.
Thanks for the review. Looks like Hyundai has a winner on it's hands, especially with the styling mistakes Lexus made with their new GS. Next step for Hyundai should be Genesis dealerships.
Great review! Choosing between this and a Lexus GS350. Very helpful.
When you turn the car off, the music that plays is basically the transition passage from "Band on the Run" (2:05 into the song). I find myself singing the next passage of that song for the next minute, it's driving me a little crazy 😜
LOVED THE INTRO SONG!!!😃
AWD is standard on all models here in Canada, so if ya want a V8 AWD ya gotta buy in Canada.
I have the 2015 genesis and I love it
Awesome Hyundai Genesis)))
Acura products are totally soulless and their nomenclature since they changed it from actual names is absolutely forgetful.
Nothing like the Legend and Integra years.
I love the sound of the car when you get in your voice not so much .
You are good and very knowledgeable and informational!!
Beautiful car even at 7 years old. Lots of today's car in 2023 with the 2024 available don't have the Genesis 3.8 luxe amenities.
I'm in need of a new car and have all but made my mind up on the Genesis sedan... just waiting on the G80 5.0, which *should* be hitting dealerships next month.
I have this exact model. It's a joy to have, I'm very proud to be an owner of this Genesis...just love it
Jamaul Pollard are you by chance an African american?
Those Gensis are badass in person!
one of the better videos I've seen considering I don't like you but I have you subscribe because you do good reviews
Love my 2015 Genesis Ultimate. I don't know if you mentioned that granted it doesn't get the greatest gas mileage but the car requires regular (87) not premium fuel like all of its competitors. Here in NY the price difference between regular and premium can add up.
The interior of the Genesis looks like the interior of BMW M5
Well, it's 2024. I still ride the original Genesis. That is. The Tiburon! Over 20 years now, still going strong. Also ride in a 2018 Genesis. Beautiful rides and I'm a muscle car guy. Hyundai been coming a long way, since the late 90's. ✌️
Love it how much my color and everything buying on in 2023
This car is beautiful and a different breed to the streets ... i see alot of dodge chargers, challengers , chrysler 300s and mustangs.... my next car is the Genesis hands down
Young Spunk people get the charger because it has a very high horsepower and torque but interior is not that good for the 300 is a good car in an out but It lacks some features and which kind of sucks plus its outdated heavy
@@mikexcanxjerk i end up buying a camaro last monday lol
Young Spunk what year , engine and model ? You went from thinkin of getting a 4 door sedan to a coupe ? Lol that’s different
@@mikexcanxjerk 2015 Camaro V6
Young Spunk how much with what miles ? What chamged your mind ?
they really changed the transmission gearing on the 8 speed. 1st and 2nd used to be right on top of each other
The V8 was only offered for the 2015 MY. You can't option it for 2016 and it won't be available when it switches to the Genesis G80 either. Canada still offers the 2015 MY, which is why they still have it.
I love my 2015 Genesis 5.0 its flawess
Sofyan, are you going to review the 5.0? Or was that red Genesis a 5.0?
Thanks for the detailed information.
Hey, great vid. Love your channel and have done for the past year. Can you do a review of a top-spec Mitsubishi Mirage G4 please? Thanks!
If you hold the drive mode button , you get snow mode
What a great review.
Great review. Thanks
Bullshit on the navigation comment. The Nav in the Genesis is "Very" feature rich.On a trip last week a guest made particular mention of how premium visually accurate the graphics were when we were being guided down the interstate. The overhead signs of the freeway were reproduced for the 9.2" screen in a most realistic appearance. The info was spot on and very impressive.
Good Review Of 2016 Hyundai Genesis. 😁
there is a 3.0l version too just to tell you. It is a 250hp v6 engine with RWD. I own one and it is incredibly beautiful. But mine is for Europe market not USA. So it is almost impossible to find it in USA
im saving up for the g80 i hope it has android auto for google GPS :l i love the android auto in the 2017 elantra
Mr. Menace did you ever get the G80 if so what year and model
Mr. Menace? Did you get a Genesis sedan? I did, in April 2016.
Arthur M. Did you get the 2017 model ultimate or premium
@@mikexcanxjerk Miko, 3.8 with the tech package.
Arthur M. Whats your opinion on the power output ? How is acceleration and passing people ? What about transmission shifts , is the power overall soso or better than you though ? How is fuel economy soso or good ? Does eco mode make a big difference? What would be your top 3 favorite features of the car ? At what mileage did you get it in ? And what was the total price ? I would your answers brother .
I Turo'd a 3.8 Ultimate recently. Relatively low miles for the year, so I feel not too far off from new. Impression - a good alternative to a Lexus, but very much in the 'Buick' mode vs. my 5 Series - though admittedly mine is an M sport. Very hushed, very comfortable seats, nice Lexicon stereo, loaded with features for 2015, good even for today. Wish the doors didn't have a stupid button rather proximity sensor w/o button push. You feel its weight pushing in corners, and it doesn't feel 'secure' at 100+ mph cruise / the Germans have it all over this here. In one quick high speed maneuver (necessitated by a guy leaving his lane without warning, nearly clipping me) the combination of body roll and confused response to inputs was unsettling and almost dangerous. Mid 20's fast highway driving, low 20's in town. The 'sport' setting does nothing but throttle response. A car for a certain kind of driver and driving style just not me, but comfortable to be sure.
Great review.
7:20 why not? Its fun and is supposed to make you feel welcome. If you really don't like it, disable it.
There is a Aston martin at 24:14
Is there any way you could possibly make the music a bit louder compared to the rest of the audio? Some of my neighbours still haven't fully evacuated their bowels. Thanks!
what's the music name start at 0:36 ?
I have this car, this car is insanely great, especially for how much it cost. I got mine with just under 2000 thousand miles and paid less than a top trimmed Accord or Camry. My cousin paid 17 thousand more for his Cadillac than my original sticker price. His Caddy is also a year newer and not even close as good as my Genesis. I don't care what you compare between the two, that Caddy loses. The cabin of this vehicle is So Quiet and Comfortable, that it makes his Caddy seem noisy and not so comfortable. I have automatic privacy shade on the rear window, manual ones on the backseat door windows, his Caddy don't. His Bose system sounds nice, my 17 speaker 900 watt Lexicon system sounds fantastic and will blow out you ear drums. And the driving experience is fantastic, even with the 3.8 which I have. This is a heavy car which responds really Nimble. I've been in cars that cost 20 thousand plus more, and this car is as good or better than any of them. This car is SO GOOD. that I laugh at the fools whi pay much more for a BADGE. And anyone who thinks that I'm the JOKE, I'll be happy to put my vehicle and theirs to the challenge. And let's Nit forget, I dont have a Genesis G80, I have the Hyundai Genesis, AND I paid way less. This vehicle should have been all over the roads. Off the Lot this vehicle could have been bought for 3 or 4 thousand more than a top trimmed Accord, Camry, Optima, and Sonata, thousands of dollars cheaper than most Lincolns and Cadillac's, cheaper than a Buick Lacross. Wow, you all that own those cars, you are a Joke when you see me next to you in my Genesis.
Johnny Dwyer I’m looking to buy a genesis g80 or a Lexus GS.
Do you think that the 3.8 L Genesis is faster than a Q 50 or a Honda accord 2.0 L 2018-2020 or 3.5 L V6 Toyota Camry do you think it is faster than those cars honestly so sugar coating ?
Hey Sofyan. The long videos I don't mind. But timestamps would greatly appreciated for specs and whatnot.
Going to take a 2016 Genesis ultimate package for test drive today. 19,000 miles listed at $28,995 Also taking a 2017 Nissan Maxima 3.5 xl with 18, 000 miles listed for $24,800. Which one will it be boyz? Both are nice looking cars and loaded.
Aldo Cipriotti génesis Nissan used to be my fav in the 90s but there to unreliable now
So what car did you end up buying
I hope Hyundai come out with a 3.8 Turbo that will be cool
Does this have power lumber for front passenger seat?
Great video Sofyan. Can you do a review of the 5.0?
This one competes with the Lexus GS sedans. They are both good looking sedan.
I think the GS is doing way too much with the Lexus spindle design. I like the cleaner front end of this.
1quickster The GS handles way better than the Genesis
What camera is he using record while in the car? Could use that as a dash cam.
Sharp looking
this genesis with 5.0 v8 or cadillac cts v sport with twin turbo v6?
The Genesis
Vsport if you want a vehicle that's good on the road and on the track.
This does not come with over 600hp so for power, the Cadillac is ahead but the interior/exterior design is debatable. Then again the fast CTS costs $85-100k so it's nowhere near this price. The genesis is really a luxury car now, not a race car, it weighs well over 4000 lb.
cadillac cts vsport has 420 HP which is 100% compare to the genisis 5.0 v8, but cadillac cts v has 640 HP which obviously overpowered the genesis
now that's a nice car what city u in
There was something called TOP View when the car was put in reverse and you said there is no 360 view. What exactly is that TOP View?
top view let's you see the bumper and directly like looking completely down on the ground.
Your talking about a Hyundai, that's why it has the same Map Graphics as OTHER Hyundai models.
Great review. Could you review the Charger scat pack.
He will in August
+Joshua Rutter I thought he said he would review the challenger scat pack in August. I want him to review the CHARGER scat pack.
This is the 2016 Hyundai Genesis/2017 Genesis G80
The "German Engineering" phrase doesn't cut it anymore, since for decades now it tends to go side by side with the German brands' lack of reliability and extremely high maintenance costs. When are the German brands going to get their act together in terms of reliability? C,mon guys, wake up! Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and even VW, I'm talking to YOU.
Great looking car. Nice review
would you buy this over the bmw or mercedes is my question....
I probably would because although the German's smoke this car in terms of luxury, it just cannot compare well in terms of reliability. I suspect that if you buy a German car and it ages over the years, it's probably going to have some major issues and you're gonna pay that price. Compared to Europe, Hyundai smokes the German's in terms of reliability.
What is the difference between the Hyundai Genesis sedan and the coupe 2.0t???besides the fact that are two doors
did Hyundai put the bass back in the sound system?
the one that you are testing is from which package?
