@@phillip4307 because the shoulder is stronger than the neck, if the oponent crossface you with his shoulder you cant turn into him. Your opponent has to do a lot of beginner mistakes to make it work.
In fact every position in the hierarchy you can roll either direction in just by changing the prop. And could indefinitely roll around in circles. That is why they call it submission wrestling. Because you get them in an Angle to summit them. The rolling around is just to set yourself into a position where you can get the submission.

But with grappling I usually find my favorite back pocket tricks like this to escape a submission or lock works once maybe twice at best. It has to be a pretty effective and simple technique like a Boxing Jab to work multiple times. It has to be something extremely difficult to counter.

You can even hook his right leg with your right leg(your leg over his) and do the same, it gives even better feel to escape but opponent often feels threatened so they knee cut to escape the hook. 🤙
This would work only on low level grapplers anyone with quick thinking will recognize to get leg control or even scramble to stop the bridge, this is a viable technique tho good video.

i think this only works on a weak side control, a proper side control with the head side leg flattened out, hip side knee tight against the hip, spider man hook around the far side shoulder to increase shoulder pressure it would be very difficult to make something like this work especially since you give up head control. again not saying it wouldn't work in a situation where the person is new or tired during a roll.
agreed. experienced grapplers instinctively know as Maia put succinctly in his DVD from years ago: "don't cling on to your opponent". a tired opponent may fall for it and this is a nice way to create space/ scramble. I dig it, though.

If top guy had any type of pressure (like being on his toes with his left leg) the only thing this will do is expose you to a back take or an arm triangle.
This tech actually works great If it doesn’t outright sweep then it opens up space to feed frames in and re-guard immediately. As all moves in jiu jitsu they are all used in conjunction.

I would suggest that if you have side control, you should widen your base, avoid having your knees together... Unless you have his arm trapped between them.
I do something similar, but with some extra details to make it higher percentage. Use your leg to hook theirs and use your arm to hug theirs close to your head, using your same elbow to tap the knee instead of a full hug. Then use your free arm to club their head/neck as you bridge in. Not 100%, but it works when they're committed to that Standard Side Control position.

I learned a similar ones last week and it was where you roll the opposite direction and you trap the far arm and push on their arm pit and windshield wiper your outside foot cause that’s gonna stop you from rolling good
I can attest to having success with this. I first saw it years ago from Stephen Kesting, and I do the entire movement in one quick chopping and bridging motion. The more they see it coming, the more success probability diminishes, though.

Wrestling doesn't convert. In wrestling, you're going for the pin. In jiu jiitsu, you can have an advantageous position on bottom.

On the video, he kinda wraps the arm around the hamstrings. Would this not be enough? And if not, would there be a better sweep?

That's why you block the legs with free arm and run into them to compress the knees together before you bridge.
This is one of my favorite side control escapes it definitely works. When you get the timing and leverage right it's so effective and effortless.
This works on amateurs very well, use to get this all the time. More experienced guys not so much.

It's really made to work when they are still trying to get side mount. You trap and roll with their momentum. It also works with half guard.
