It helps when you can find thrapist who is familiar with ACoA and Inner Family System Theory (IFS). Then the therapy compliments the work done in ACoA. 🙂

That’s very true. Possibly not enough knowledge out there in wider therapeutic scene about what to do to support acoa.

@@NacoaUK I have every clinician in my clinic in LA informed on the importance of ACoA and healing the inner child.

This is my first Nacoa video and it is Outstanding! Y'all have way too few subscribers, maybe my sub will break the algorithm more in your direction. Really lovely.

This is one of my favorites. I can relate to everything being said. I appreciate all the work. Being done. In helping with healing. As a adult child of an alcoholic I am late coming into the game but at least I am here. I’m working on myself and doing better. Each day is definitely a process.

Thank you Sophie and Josh - this interview is amazing!
I have been on my healing journey for 2 years now with various modalities. I can relate in what has been said on so many things, in random order:
    - hypervigilance
    - minimising the impact of a dysfunctional family as in "everyone has problem, no family is perfect"
    - not expressing your needs and boundaries
    - feeling you are responsible for others' feelings
    - being numbed out by work/study (perfectionism and/or over achievement)
    - not being able to remember well childhood experiences
    - healing being one of the hardest work to do
    - losing friends in the process
    - not being able to relate with siblings (especially older siblings)
    - understanding your relationship with the non-alcoholic parent being one of the hardest work
    - how it started (for me, a breakup during covid/lockdown that was actually so painful that it showed something was really wrong)
    - link with attachemment theory: the more I read about it, the more it was painful but the more it made sense (btw the book "Attached" by Levine and Heller helped me a lot at the beginning to understand things)
Thank you again for putting this out on youtube, you cannot imagine how it helps! I am going to read Pete Walker's book :)

Hiya. Nacoa's service is primarily 1-2-1 helpline support, which you can find on this link.
      nacoa.org.uk/about-nacoa/helpline/
Though we do put on events through the year for our members. Including online Members Socials.
      e.g. nacoa.org.uk/coa-week-members-social-thurs-16-february/?slug=latest-news-events
