That guy at the end was a typical 80s dork, but what he said was 100% true. Thanks for the original source video, kinda neat to see, after hearing the Helter Stupid album years ago
It's believed that "Nightstalker" suspect Richard Ramirez was influenced by AC/DC's "Highway To STUPID" album. And Ozzy Ozbourne's song "STUPID Solution" became the focal point of an actual STUPID case.
I've been listening to my glorious cassete release of the Helter Stupid albumn since 1990 and now I finally get to see the images that accompany that broadcast. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've had that Escape from Noise vinyl for about four years now. Well, they're right about that murder-and-music connection. All I can think of is DEATH WISH TWO-TWO-TWO.
Brilliant PR stunt by Negativland: creating controversy to sell records. It worked for The Beatles. Also stunning how little actual research TV news put into their broadcast. Now, class, what have we learned today?
Oh wow! This is cool! I've never seen this before. I'm a huge Negativland fan, going back to the Escape From Noise era, and Helter Stupid (or at least side one anyway) is one of my favorites from them. It's funny that one single false press release took the band from having to cancel a tour for financial reasons, to getting network affiliate news coverage (and they were the lead story, no less).
At first I thought this was a part of the act. Never heard of this case. NL is a very interesting project! (edit), it is a part of the act! Even more brilliant! Reminds me a bit of Crass and a tape they made of reagan and thatcher...
it is interesting how much time is spent on the band rather than the alleged murderer...are we to assume that musicians are more dangerous than murderers?...if so, why do so many people find music so meaningless until something they can blame it on happens?...the punk artist is a leader who recognizes problems and uses shock to highlight these problems to people who don't see them because their assumptions prevent them from doing so...punks don't say kill people, they say stop the silent killing
The band members look like there trying hard to keep a straight face while being filmed and interviewed. They probably broke out in crying laughter after the news crew left.
Can anyone tell me if there's any info available on the axe murder case? How is "Brahm" spelled? This is one of my favorite Negativland albums, but I've never seen any articles about what happened with the boy who did the killing or exactly what happened. Anyone know?
Brom is how it’s spelled; we share a hometown (albeit I moved to town with my family as an infant a couple years after the crime). The motive was tied to David’s anger at his parents, his father especially, at how he was raised. He was eventually tried as an adult and convicted of murder, sentenced to three consecutive life terms and is still in a state penitentiary here.

Where is that clip from? I can't find it anywhere else online. He described exactly what was wrong with the media-- and continues to be true
@@fzgn It's in Negativland's video release No Other Possibility, isn't it?

I blame Pink Floyd and their song about being careful with that axe. They got the kids name wrong though.
That's pretty STUPID ... thank you.
RIP Don Joyce
I am in shock after finding out how many time zones the Soviet Union has.
eigenstates It's not even funny.
(number of time zones in the Soviet Union) years ago :D

Negativland.
The world's first (and best) trolls.

and here I was thinking that first snippet was from one of their prior albums.
It was a real murder, the prank was the fake press release by NL stating they were involved, which they weren't.
Thank you for posting this!!!
The debt those cads owe to the great and holy Estus Pirkle has yet to be repaid.
"The loud speaker spoke up and said...."

Hilarious! Brilliant PR.
I remember, negativeland's career took a big hit after this.
Something they did all on their own.
YEAH!
i LOVE that song.
i have to say: "awesome."
(plays the tape in reverse)
"The child... is the child of evil..."
Dig his Freudian slip at 0:40.
Wise girl. Many don't. That is why there are wars.
@cholocharile And Hal Eisner is the reason why "Helter Stupid" is best music.
"AC/DC's 'Highway to [stupid]' album".
Helter stupid, Highway to stupid, and Stupid solution were pretty good songs
does anyone know the song they're playing at 1:14 ? has it been released

WE NEED CHADTRONIC
Fake - but brilliantly done. True Genius.
The band members look like there trying hard to keep a straight face while being filmed and interviewed. They probably broke out in crying laughter after the news crew left.
wow
This is stupid. Also, I chopped up my family on orders from Hal Eisner.
Have you heard Cliff Richard.
i'm critical of their criticism of handguns
So, who is the guy at the end? Did he get his fame? Maybe I missed it.
@tgfabthunderbird What facts did they miss?
Dave McLhatten.

Then please forgive my ignorance.

David Brom was found guilty and won't be eligible for parole until 2041.
