I get goosebumps when i watch this. The situation could have turned real very fast with all the incidents that happened in Sweden during the cold war. You will get to know just a few of them in this series.

Really excited that you are watching this. The Swedish total defence machinery was brutal. There was a plan for everything. Really impressive and quite inspiring in many ways.

This brings back so many memories. I served as an officer in the Swedish Air Force, received my commission in 1974, during all these years (I retired in 2006). This was the stark realty we lived and worked in at the time. I still remember all the events, and quite a few others, mentioned in this film.

One has to wonder what the current iterations of those bunkers are like since the older ones were basically turned into museums and tourist attractions.

Same production has done a modern series looking into "if the war comes" and looking at some of the same stuff but if the war started tomorrow for us in Sweden. Love them as they are 'lagom' length and packed with information.

Sweden army and air force always been hard core , even when them neutral. Their airforce fly so agressive that them lost a lot of pilots. full war style. Neutral hocky champions ?. So happy to have them in Nato and the scandinavian force. Greatings from Norge.

I've seen this series a few times and it really brings memories and a sense of how Sweden was able to create such a huge national task.
In one episode they will show those who have died for real in training in the air-force.
Growing up in Söderhamn by an airbase F15.
    They practiced as in war.
    And many are dead.
There is a lot of gratitude to be given to all who lost their lives and sacrificed in other ways.
I don't like how we don't have celebration for our heroes.
    It makes me tear-eyed.

There's a brilliant museum housed in what was once an underground facility at an airbase, where they kept all of the aircraft. Itäs just outside Gothenburg, it's called Aeroseum. 🙂

If you make tour in Sweden i advice you to visit Karlskrona my home town an big navy base with lots of history Charles the XII launched his attack from here against russia. The city as an above city split between the civilian part and the navy base part but also a city underground with HUGE bunkers and command structure capable to survive direct hist of the largest bombs. Ive only seen a fraction of the underground complex myself. There are tours there and very interesting. The whole archipelago of Karlskrona are littered with mountain strongholds and bunkers

@@CombatReadyHQ The link can also be found under your episode 2. The Swedish Armed Forces is the one that provides the official source of the production. The channel is a good source for documentaries related to Sweden. It is not a "Season 2", When the war comes is a series in five parts that deals with the threat picture of the future. The series explains how a conflict would affect Swedish society and what demands it places on Sweden's future military defence.

@@aj897 I think you lack the understanding of the meaning of the word.
Militarized does not mean absolute military strength or biggest budget, it means that preparedness permeates every part of a society that was ready to switch into a war machine at a moments notice, every man did 7-15 months military service and every person knew their wartime posting by heart. Even privately owned cars trucks , busses and all kinds of heavy machinery could have a predetermined military posting in case of war. Every apartment building had a bomb shelter and just about every mountain a military installation hidden within

According to the civilian agency JANES, which specialises in military matters and what that entitles, Israel was the most "war-prepared" nation during the Cold War, followed by Sweden. Still, we build, into installations, blastchambers (Bridges, harbours and that kind) into which we, in a war, can pump explosives to quickly deny an enemy access to that infrastructure. But we are nowadays miles away from the preparedness we had.

15:07 Read this carefully. As Swedish soldiers, we were told that "all messages about capitulation are false". Meaning that we would never surrender, unlike Germany or Japan in 1945. All of Sweden would be full of soldiers keeping the fight going, just like the Japanese soldiers they found on remote islands 30 years after WW2 ended.
