It is an absolute pathetic shame that this song and video doesn't have at least a million views. A classic song that unfortunately went too far under the radar. Terrific band and this is an all time classic.
Their timing was off, arrived to early, I remember hearing them on the independent indie station we had and nowhere else.....if they had hit mid nineties they could have been huge. Just keep them as a gem for yourself.
so-called alt. rock was entirely under the radar. too bad; some very interesting performances by Dramarama. not quite rock; not quite punk. we took clients to see them at the Irvine Amphitheatre 1993; a warm up for Cult. We were in the 7th row from the stage, AND I still have hearing loss today.
Was entirely bored with music on the college and pop stations in 1989, after the best decade in music (scientific fact) was bidding us adieu. Heard this in the car, driving home from a voice lesson (at the "professor's" house) and the clouds parted from this kick-ass jam that said, "hey, music has another 7-8 years before it dies for good" and at that precise moment I was happy 😉
The first time my friend Jeff heard this song he said "That dude sounds like David Lee Roth holding a hit." I started laughing so hard I had to pull the car over in the nearest parking lot or I was going to have a wreck. I still crack up about that to this day.
@@ronmorey3475 - Jeff was absolutely hilarious. I haven't talked to him in years but last time I did he still seemed pretty funny albeit a little more mellowed.
Found this song on an old mixed tape. 2 weeks in last cigarette and best thing ever. It's like my life is brand new. Quit cold turkey. All you need is some affection the first few days and some kava tea.
@@bjmcmahon722 Yep, Toad's. They played there on the Hi Fi Sci Fi tour too, to maybe an even smaller crowd. Easedale hopped off the stage at the end as the band jammed a long outro to "Last Cigarette" and shook everyone's hand for showing up. That band deserved more than that.
Johnny fucking Easdale. Saw these guys at Joey Harrison’s Surf Club at the Jersey Shore and a few other places. Whipping cigs at the stage and pushing hard to get to the stage, which I always did. So many great songs that deserved better recognition and airplay. Insane good time. Please come to Syracuse NY. Still have the music, dying to see the live performance again.
After my school bus has been blasting "Anything, Anything", I decided to give this band a try, and they're good! Already listened to "Emerald City", which is a nice name by the way!
Few songs in the history of rock'n'roll have ever offered up such a cry existential angst in the face of stone cold addiction, "I KNOW IT'S KILLING ME!"
I heard these guys a lot growing up (Thank KROQ & 'Nightmare On Elm Street 4' for "Anything, Anything"), just FYI this is from albums 2 ('Box Office Bomb' [as a demo]) & originally from 3 ('Stuck In Wonderamaland' [1990]) VH1Classic's '120 Minutes' brought me here!
I loved this song. O had this cassette tape I'm actually just got on UA-cam to look it up and see if I could find it. Surprisingly enough I did I only wish the sound quality was better
Im 39, been into Punk/rock/alt since i was 11. I just found these guys & i feel compkete, yet funny that i never heard of these guys till now. Looks like i got some catching up to do.
VH1 used to have a show where they reunited bands and they'd play before an audience at a packed theater. Well, they got these guys together. It was the the programs biggest show ever. The band got several offers for a tour and even a record deal. Nothing came of it 😢
One of my all time favorite songs. And although it was featured as a live track on Live at the China Club, this version is off of their Stuck In Wonderamaland, album. Just an FYI...
I heard this song when it first came out on one of the last independent radio stations in Chicago, WCBR, just left of WXRT. I looked for it for a long time after Clear Channel ruined the music industry & radio. Thanks for posting this! I love so much music from this era, but a lot of it is Indie stuff and therefore more difficult a quest to locate. XRT still plays some of the lesser known bands but not as often as before they caved in to Clear Channel. Online, Kazaa was a great source for the obscure tracks that rattle around the brain, but Napster killed that. College radio is the last bastion in a sea of industry cyborgs.
I grew up in LA. I was just talking to someone about the China Club last week. I went there for a concert one night, and I cannot remember who. I think it may have been the Specials or Madness cause I was dancing and my girlfriend leaned into my ear and said,"Look at that guy dancing next to us, he must think he is Tom Waits." I turned and said, "It is Tom Waits, and that is Rikki Lee Jones he is dancing with." My China club story.
First heard this song many years ago and it recently came up on my music feed. Strongly encourage you listen to the song without the video. Song is much better without the video.
I got into this band in high school. Hopefully one of the last appearances of the saxophone in rock and roll. With the exception of Chigago. But thats a post for another time...

No way bro. Might have been the opposite since Dramarama formed at list 3 or 4 years earlier than pixies. But they are such two different bands one to another that I couldn't say pixies were influenced by dramarama eather

You're absolutely correct, but somehow at the same time, that's exactly as it should be.
Their timing was off, arrived to early, I remember hearing them on the independent indie station we had and nowhere else.....if they had hit mid nineties they could have been huge. Just keep them as a gem for yourself.
Turned my nephews and nieces onto this. Seventeen to twenty two. They love it. I grew up with it.

So true. I don't get it
I’ve foud Dramarama just few days ago… it was a pleasure
I don't even smoke cigarettes but this song gets stuck in your head
This song makes me wanna smoke a cigarette lol
Just smoked my last cigarette, keep me in your prayers. I got a wife to love and a daughter to raise. I don't need no more cigarettes.
"I know it's KILLING me!".. 😉
Such a great song. I think of it every time I have a cigarette late at night
Truth
Great band, great song, very dearly missed !
2020 and still a cool song 💜💜💜

I was the only one my hometown who dug on dramarama in the late 80s early 90s. Thought they were so cool.
The first time my friend Jeff heard this song he said "That dude sounds like David Lee Roth holding a hit."
I started laughing so hard I had to pull the car over in the nearest parking lot or I was going to have a wreck. I still crack up about that to this day.
Holding a hit of what though asks the girl who grew up in Florida in the 80's?
Damn, that is a great description. Jeff sounds like funny dude. I hope he still is!

Had no idea who these guys were, wandered into a free show they were playing in New Haven, CT on a Tuesday night in '89, and became a fan for life.
Found a few bands by following the sound of live music, coming from a small bar. Best decision I have ever made. If the music calls you, find it.
Tell me that was Toad's Place...! Many bands came through there, loved it.

VH1Classic's '120 Minutes' brought me here!
These guys don't belong in the 80s Their songs sounded ahead of its time
After work. So tired. How perfect.
1st saw on 120 minutes on MTV in the mid 80s......still listen to it.
