Just stumbled across this channel while going down the UA-cam rabbit hole today 😅 I wish I could tell you in person but, this will have to do for now. You are an absolute TREASURE, and one hell of an amazingly beautiful woman. I just spent another Christmas alone and thinking about family that has passed away and missing them, so I got a little emotional when you were talking about that. I just wanted to say, keep your head up, Gorgeous 😊 you’re WAY too pretty to not be smiling anyway 😁😉 you’re definitely not wrong about to 800 grit either lol I always use 800 to rough up the paint enough to stick well and I feel like 1000 and up is just polishing too. I usually go 10-20% more paint than I think I need, to make up for overspray and practice sprays. You rock girl!!!! Thank you letting us join you on this little project. I hope you have a great day, Pretty Lady 🌹🌹🌹
I love your make shift paint both, love the enthusiasm. You will get alot of what and what not to do from other people, so I will just wish you good luck and keep going.
I’ve painted for over 20 years now. Please don’t take my advice as criticism or that I’m belittling you or anything, because I’m not. I’m just a blunt and honest person and come across as that way sometimes. First thing is the bumper itself. I watched your other video on the bumper just to make sure of what you did process wise. You sanded it well but you didn’t use any adhesion promoter. Paint doesn’t adhere to plastic very well. Not using adhesion promoter will cause the primer and paint to turn loose of the bumper down the road. Bulldog is a good brand of adhesion promoter and you can get it in spray cans. Second thing is the primer. You need to get flexible primer for bumpers instead of the regular primer. Urethane bumpers flex in the wind as you drive. Using non flexible primer will crack as the bumper flexes but the primer doesn’t. As far as the painting I’m with the others, you can not sand a metallic basecoat without it showing. When you sand a metallic basecoat you are literally sanding the not just the color but the metallic itself which changes the look. If you get dirt in the basecoat just sand the dirt out but spray more basecoat over the sanded area afterwards. When you get done painting the basecoat there should be no sanded areas in the basecoat. As far as the gun spitting that’s a problem that is common to cheaper paint guns. I’ve been there myself. Yes a water trap on the airline is a must when painting. Especially when using an oil less compressor. They turn more rpms than a regular air compressor and they heat the air up a lot more and then as it goes in the tank and cools down you get condensation. Find you a water trap that uses the desiccant in it because you can buy the desiccant in jugs and replace the desiccant as needed. At the very least get the disposable filters that screw on the end of your gun where the air line goes on. Like I said before don’t take any of this the wrong way. I’m just trying to give you good advice so you will have less trouble and your repairs will last. I totally understand doing things on a budget. If you have any questions or if I can help in any way my email is on my channels page. Merry Christmas to you and your family from me and the pups!!!
P.S. don’t be afraid to lay the clear coat to something when using a paint gun. You can buff a run out of clear coat but you can’t buff dry spray out of clear coat. Same holds true for single stage paints.
@BlackLabGarage of course youre welcome, that's the way more people should be because while what someone does is cool, the point is that it shouldn't stop with them or it's somewhat wasted, good way to make what you've built go on forever in a trade that's not easy and seems to be dying out. I don't care that the world's going to robots, I'd rather keep doing real things with real people and more people should agree with us 😆
Enjoyed the video. Another self taught, you tube painter here to share some thoughts. If you reduce the base coat it will go so much further. A pint really is a lot of paint but won’t go far if not reduced. It also sprays better and will help prevent the blobs you had around the headlight area. I agree with the water separator comment but I think your biggest issue there was it wasn’t reduced. Also the reducer can double for cleaning the gun. Second, I battled with gun cleaning for ages before buying the disposable cup kit. The liners help with trash. The caps will save any unused base instead of trashing it. And the cleanup goes from a task to a breeze. The investment pays for itself in the long run. Saved base and less gun cleaner = more money. 😅 Lastly, you’re over working yourself wet sanding between every coat. Spray base, 10-15 flash, spray base again, 10-15 flash. Wait 30 and do any repairs that are needed. One more light coat of base to cover repairs and then move on to clear. Follow same steps here. Two wet coats with 15 min flash and do your wet sanding and polishing after 24-48 hours. You’re right. It really is an art and so addicting. I watch a lot of TriggerMan and Paint Society. They’re really good channels for giving newbies some good budget friendly tips.
Just wanted to say: your amazing love watching your vids keep up the Good you do your a blessing to many I'm sure your sister & your dad is watching over you with the biggest of smiles. God bless & Merry Christmas to you & your family❤
Merry Christmas Kirstie. You are an amazing lady. You're definitely going to go places in the car community. Love that you're not afraid of trying new things. ❤🎉
Hey, hoping you have a Merry Christmas. I just found your video here and I think it’s great that you’re doing this on your own. It’s kinda overwhelming at first but after a little time you’ll get more comfortable doing it. If I can make one suggestion, tune into the channel of paint society here on UA-cam and watch some of his videos on painting and gun setup. He is very in-depth and covers a lot of potential issues before you run into them. Also another great channel is paintucation by Kevin Tetz. He goes into detail about the prep work and getting ready for the spray gun. Painting is a lot of fun and watching the transformation from ugly to pretty is the real reward for me. It seems like every job I do I’m in awe with the outcome. I will say be prepared to have mishaps because they are going to happen but don’t get discouraged and just learn how to fix them. Keep at it and you’ll get to where you you’ll want to paint the world with a gun rather than a rattle can. Remember a woman that enjoys working on cars is a wonderful catch.
That came out great 👍 I love paint projects like that. Your paint booth is a smart idea. I know it's a bit late, but merry Christmas/Happy New Year. I know what you mean about missing your loved ones who aren't here anymore ❤.
When i paint im thinking i got everything under control and i know what im doing until something crazy comes at me from way out in left field . Im talking out there in the hi grass !!! My advice to you is adapt and overcome !!! Its so refreshing to see a woman doing what us men do for fun . I was today years old when i ran across your channel . Your fun to look at and interesting to watch .. im gonna hang around here n watch you paint n root you on from east Tn !!! Good luck you got this !!!
Great video indeed. You definitely did all the right things to get started at spraying with a gun. @BlackLabGarage had some great advice as did others in the comments.👍🏾 My suggestions would be to keep your pressure at about 20-22psi when spraying base, and 25-28psi when spraying clear. When setting up your gun unscrew the material dial out all the way. While holding the trigger, screw it in until the trigger starts to move…that’s the gun fully open. Continue to dial it in another 1/2 turn, then figure out what feels good to you when you spray. Open or close as needed, but remember your settings. Then do the same with the fan. Open it all the way, then rein it in about 1/4 turn. Adjust as needed to suit your style, and remember what feels good as you paint. Also when you are spraying the clear out of a can, keep from trying to go the length of the bumper. Do the same when painting as well. I break the bumper into sections. Do any fog light areas, or problematic sections first lightly. Then pick a side to begin. Let’s say left side, middle, right side, bottom then top. Keep the clear wet on the whole left side, then move to the whole center. Remember to blend lightly top to bottom over the left side area where you just cleared/painted. Then apply to the right side top to bottom remembering to blend back into the edge of the center section. By keeping your area/edge wet you will get a cleaner smoother job in the end. Last thing, silvers are easy to blotch, so to aid against this I will only tack my first coat of silver base. (Not sure if those were shop towels or a blue tack rag?) Never use blue shop towels, or touch fresh metallic base unless you have to sand a defect out. Just try to tack it and apply another coat. You can leave marks or scratch the metallics. At the end, drop the pressure on the gun by about 5psi and do a control coat. Open up the fan and move across the whole bumper left to right to even out the metallics. A control coat at the end should make the bumper perfect and ready for clear…don’t tack it, just go straight to clear. I’m going to get back to doing videos and rebranding in 2025. Keep up the good work I hope that helps, you’ve got a new subscriber!👍🏾
Kirstie is in the house!! Merry Christmas to you and the little ones. I've enjoyed this past year watching you learn while I also learn by watching. Sending happy Hugs and big Loves. 🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅
You’ve got some really good advice from some knowledgeable painters as a painter myself. I know how it is as I learned to paint painting my own 68 Camaro many times, trial n error, just keep practicing n learning. I think you did very well for a first time ! Merry Christmas 🎄😁
Kristie try setting up one of those square work lights, you can see exactly what your pattern looks like as your spraying. You can see everything in the “glare” or at an angle. They are sealed.
Ive rattle canned several cars over the years. But most rattle can clear coats tend to yellow once in the sun from the ingredients from the aerosols. So definitely worth using spray gun clear in the future. But for your budget and what you did, it came out pretty good. The others are correct about sanding metalics and plastic adhesion promoters. Also i found with metallics to not get zebra stripes every coat you spray on at 3 different angles. (Side to side, then top to bottom, and lastely diagonally). Only one way to learn, and you didn't do bad.
I had no more paint lol but I really just needed to get those chonkies off, I wasn't going to clear over them. I used 2000 grit 😅 for chonkie removal. No scratches thank goodness!!
Merry Christmas to you and your family. The bumper looks great, glad you used a paint gun, it gives you more options in the future and keep practicing.
Kristie, you rock! Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄🎊🍻💨💯. Just take your time and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. It just takes time and patience. Peace ❤
i've never used a paint gun in my life or painted anything more than brackets, etc... so watching a novice take the plunge and share what she learns is inspiring. thanks! gotta confess i saw a pretty girl and clicked but you're legit.
@@kirstieskarz no clickbait just my finely tuned xy chromosome senses. btw i watched your 'dad video' and if you don't mind me saying i think your dad must be looking down with pride.
Good job!, hey! as the saying goes!. “Practice makes perfect!”, you jumped in and wasn’t scared to try. It turned out nice. Silver is a difficult paint to spray but it turned out nice. Well done
I'm very proud of you. As I always say... If you never try, you'll never succeed and if you tried and failed, at least you tried. Keep moving forward. PS. Learning is fun. ☺
When I did my first paint job back in 1979. I was told don't do a complete color change and don't do a metallic paint job. I broke both of those rules right from the start. My truck was a 1967 Ford F-100 Camper Special with the Ranger package. My Late Dad had bought it brand new. It was Lunar Green on top and Wimbledon White on the bottom. I painted it Dark Jade Green from a 1972 Lincoln Continental. I don't know if I was lucky or the paint gods took pity on me, but on the whole truck there was only one run. However it was right on the drip rail by the driver's door. So I had to see it every time I got into the truck.
I've painted lots of vehicles and being nervous prior is perfectly normal, considering paint costs and possible resand. That black crud is more that likely from the black airline...contaminated. ahh, sanding base coat, nope. Sand only clear. Your pressure setting at the gun gauge around 25psi for gravity feed gun. The optimal all purpose fluid/air cap is a 1.4, will be stamped on the tip of the sprayer. Top of cup is a vent cap, open it. Filters and desiccant dryer pods are needed between compressor and gun... Everything has a learning curve. Having the courage to just do it puts you above and beyond most..
As people have said, ideally use/spray 2k clear coat but sort out some extraction or just let air circulate well. 2k primer will be needed for the car. 2k has isocyanates so is hazardous. Use a full face respirator/paint suit/gloves. I change my respirator filters very regularly. I started out super conscious of trying to eliminate dirt but my take is this. Dirt sticks to the clear like it's literally a magnet so I gave up. I just cut back/flatten/wet sand and polish back up. You get show car shine but have to accept it's a LOT of extra work.
First paint job i did when i was 14 was enamel and when i returned the thinner to the store unopened the salesman started chucking that i used straight paint unthinned. Took a long long long time to dry. Cleaning gun after use is critical to longevity of the gun.
Great job!!! Im about to do the same for the first time. I just got my PDR tools in today. Will start working on dents tomorrow. In the meantime I need to invest in paint guns and paint. Will be doing it in my garage. Get body work complete then plan to paint at the latest in March. It's going to be a journey. 😊
Kirstie your a trooper and I admire that, but like a commenter said buckle-up this will be a long expensive ride! I’ve been at it over 35-years and it’s somewhat easy but takes a lot of time and money (lots of money!). To learn. Many-many things can go wrong. Keep watching the videos -lots of videos paint society is an excellent tutorial learning channel, watch many episodes as I said. Then you will need to find an automotive paint supplier in your area and hopefully you can get someone in there willing to help you on which paint to use in a garage environment. I could go on and on and- you get the point. Good luck and happy new year to you and family
@JimmyPederson for sure you're right man! Going into things like this for any reason because we want to is a dangerous game. Rarely are any of us getting the time and money back but that's not always, if ever the point. I've seen so many people supposedly lose their as$ on projects because they thought even if they got something cheap, by time the parts bill and time was spent etc there was more into said thing than it would bring back a lot of the time!
Hint you can't get better at something unless you make a mistake and learn from it, we love you so much best wishes to you and your family keep smiling, lots of love from Scotland
Great work !!, keep pushing forward !!, hoping to do my first paint job this coming spring... Very inspiring to watch 1st timers do such great work. Thanks.
If you happen to have a Harbor Freight nearby, they sell a wire holder for your paint gun that is cheap and it also holds your paint strainer. Easy to screw down on say a scrap board and set on bench.
Nice work. When i painted professionally i kept the hose over my shoulder. Try that. Same concept as holding the cord on a vacuum if that makes sense. Hope that helps.
I too taught myself to spray and graduated from aerosol cans, the things I learnt are buy your paint neat and thin it 1-1 yourself(with fast thinners),this is by far the cheapest way to do it and you have a more consistent paint quality, use a paint gun with a 1.3mm nozzle and have your air pressure between 15/20 psi, spray all the hard to access areas first (corners etc) which can easily get missed,do 2 light coats of paint first just in case there is any paint reactions/contamination with the panel before doing a heavier coat, spray with a 50% overlap but don’t hold the gun too close when spraying metallics as you don’t want it too wet as can cause tiger striping, don’t try and paint the whole panel at once running back and forth, start in one area and move to the next keeping a consistent speed and distance,on your last coat move away from the panel and do a light mist coat (to prevent tiger stripes)once flashed off after about 30 minutes and dry to the touch mix up 2k clear coat 2-1(aerosol clear coat is junk and won’t last) increase your air pressure to 25psi and spray a light (grab) coat and after 10 minutes spray 2/3 heavier coats leaving 10 minutes between coats and you will get amazing results, spraying base and clear coat with a proper spray gun is so much easier than using aerosols, don’t beat yourself up if you make mistakes as even professional sprayers get runs and paint reactions 👍🏻
Another day, another good Kirstie upload!! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas this year!! Much love! 🫶🏼🎄also the sky at 8:08 is beautiful!! I’m a sucker for these kinda sunsets
I’m only @7:25 in but, first thing is you need a water separator on the discharge of the compressor. Second, that pint of paint should be thinned to make maybe a half gallon (depends on the paint thinning recommendations). Wash the part, dry and tack rag just prior to painting (tack rag removes any dust). I took auto painting at a trade school. Never finished the course but, I do remember a lot of it. Then, start moving the gun before pressing trigger, let off trigger while still moving with each pass paying attention to keeping the gun and even distance to the part. Good on you though. Other comments indicate you done pretty good. 👍
When painting plastic always use adhesion promoter first, paint will start flaking and peel if you don’t,you can always sand out a run with the clear coat just sand it then buff it out to shine again
Start on smaller parts... Get a box fan with home furnace filters on the backside & attach it to your makeshift booth.... Add another filter on opposite side for a cross draft
As for the thicker heavier line.... take your non painting hand, go back about 3-4ft from the gun and grab there, so the line hangs more freely from the gun, and will thus need less effort to twist. You can also use various "firearm" techniques" like "bone to bone" contact or tucking your elbows to create a very stable painting position.
A little advice be careful wet sanding metallic paint because you can move the metallic and you will have bad spots!! you did great though and glad to see this and you might as well get use to spraying the clear also be a lot quicker.👍👍 Keep up the great work!!!!
I'm no paint expert, but one thing I find makes it easier is to have the air hose over your shoulder so taking a lot of the weight off gun. Have a great Christmas Kirstie!
Merry christmas Kirsty, love your channel, good on you for diving in the deep end & trying things you,ve never done before, its the only way to learn👍👍👍❤️
Maybe quit worrying about it coming out perfect everyone learns and gets better after time, you are a Awesome Person in time you will be a master painter and welder
There are plenty of videos out there on how to properly adjust spray guns. I suggest looking a few of those up. For air pressure, with that paint gun, pull the trigger just enough to get air flowing thru the gun, then set your regulator for 28 psi. That will give you a real solid baseline. With clear, primers and plain colors ( meaning no metalics, pearls or candies ), 50% overlap does well. With metalics, pearls and candies you will want 75% overlap as your spraying. Enjoy the holidays!
I hope that you have a very enjoyable Christmas and a special new year. A couple of things, when stiring paint always use a flat stirrer for better mixing and instead of a spray bottle try a bucket of water and use this to wet your wet and dry. Kind regards John Adelaide South Australia
Little tip; use 2k clear ( you can get these from the same manufacturer). This will give a far better buildup and not sink into the basecoat. Even better, use your gun to paint these larger objects with clear. Works a lot more relaxed. That said, girl you rock for just doing it! And you got a beautiful voice on top!
#1 EVERYTHING is in the prep. From the surface, to the environment, to the timing. #2 Take a couple looks at Smeedia on his RX7. He can see the clear difference in his technique as he was learning. Painting a car is almost like performing WuShu motions. Smooth, even, consistent. Knowing where to start in weird pockets to get the smoothest and best coverage. Lots of wrist action.
Hello Kristy, next time you wet sand just put some water in a bucket with a few drops of Dawn Dish soap. It makes it easier to sand parts and keeps the sandpaper clean. You and your kiddos have a Merry Christmas! ✌️
When painting try to angle the spray to where the overspray isn't landing on unpainted surfaces, start at the bottom and work your way up, if it lands on wet/painted areas it will melt in & not leave a rough surface. Also use proper thinner for laquer, reducer for enamel & mineral spirits for oil based paints, alot of stuff is water based now too. The second knob from the top on that gun will adjust flow, you'll notice the more you turn it in the less you'll be able to pull the trigger. the top one should adjust the fan width, screw it in and it should lessen the air coming out the two holes at the head and spray a finer point. open it up for more air and a wider fan.
Im down in springs. 40 yr painter. Spray base about 20psi. 30 psi for clear. Before you paint. Hold the trigger. Wind out the bottom knob of the 2 knobs on that gun. That is your fluid output control. As you are holding the trigger wind the knob in until you feel resistance. At that point you will notice that the trigger will be moving inwards as you turn the knob in. What you want is right where you feel resistance with trigger pulled is where the fluid is wide open. That will be your base setting. If you feel you have too much paint you can wind in that bottom knob to slow down the fluid flow. The top knob is the fan. For basecoat wind it all the way out. You can watch paint society, triggerman, kandyman, and others on you tube for advice. Wetsanding clear dont go below 1500. Easier to buff with 2000. There is no real need to wetsand between coats. You shouldnt sand the last coat of base, it will ruin the metalic look. If you sand, rebase it. Wish I was closer id stop by and teach ya, Anyway Merry Christmas to you and your family. Watch videos! You can do this.
Merry Christmas to you and the kiddos. You did a good job with the paint gun, a couple of tips for you, start at one end and go to the opposite end like you did with the clear (don't start in the middle of a panel), as for the hose you can hang it over your neck or shoulder whichever feels more comfortable and lastly use a foam block with your sand paper so you don't create uneven surfaces from your fingers and you should be golden.
You did a good job. The metallic looks even, very little orange peel and it's shiny. What else can you ask for? LOL For future reference, mixing different kinds of paint, (one sprayed on top of another) can be dangerous. I was afraid that the rattle can clear might "attack" the base coat and wrinkle. I've used a 2K mix on a car frame and then a 2K rattle can for a touch up and they attacked each other. Luckily for me it was a small spot that I could fix, but it's something to keep in mind. Do spray-out tests. Also keep in mind if you buy, say, a gallon of store mixed (color) paint and find you have to get more, it may not match exactly. (I found that out the hard way...) Even with their automated mixing machines, it's may not be perfect. There are work-arounds though....Food for thought. Keep it going. you're doing good. Merry Christmas!
When spraying your metallics - dont wait until 2nd coat is dry to spray a 3rd coat..... After your 2nd closed coat - pull spray gun back and do an orientation coat.. That way your metallics orientate
Your on your way grasshopper. Disposable paint cup liner systems are awesome. I use the ones from Harborfreight. Haven't had good luck with the ones from TCP global on Amazon. They fit on to the old style 3M adapters. They should have the adapters there for your gun if not Amazon sells them. Also, get you some aerosol gun cleaner. I use carb cleaner. Cheap and readily available. A tip, you shouldn't sand basecoat, especially metallics unless if you fixing a run. If you do sand, you'll have to lay down another coat. If you get dry or rough spots your technique or gun settings are off. You'll get it. It's all about practice and repetition. Your doing good tho. Keep it up. Merry Christmas❤
Hell yeah girl, Painting takes time to learn. Just be careful with that compressor. Them smaller one don't have the cfm to keep with Painting a whole car. Keep it up you're rocking girl. 😉 ✌️
Younwill have to buy a gallon of paint for the Nova that mixes 1:1...... You never want to run out of paint... Omni plus is absolutely fine and cheaper for base coat... We at PPG use om inwhen doing an overall because it easily saves $500-$1000 over DBC... Lime line has clear coat for fair price.
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 As a couple people have said sanding base coat is a no-no especially with metallics without applying more BC over it. Usually will show up after it’s cleared & outside in the sunlight. If you’re going to use spray can clear get the Max like you have but the 2k type, way better product & more durable finish. Over 25yrs autobody & paint experience here.. I never recommend buying any RTS(ready to spray) products unless you’re at the store watching them mix it. Mainly because what they reduce it with or the ratio is unknown truly. Solid colors are the best & easiest to learn with but you have to start somewhere & you did, lol… Learning the paint gun is the best part, the fluid & fan pattern knobs along with the air pressure will affect your overall finish & amount of paint used. Hang up some masking paper & pour water in your gun & play with the settings, it sounds crazy but it works seriously… Keep your chin up & have fun 👍
I used 2000 grit just to get all those chunkys off. I didn't want to just clear over them and I didn't have more paint. Surprisingly no scratches showed through! Thanks so much for all the tips! Definitely going to play around with some water! Sounds cheap!! 🤣 and I need that in life right now! Thanks for the support!! 🫵✊️
those rattle can clears will work but you want to spray them while the paint is still tacky that way the clear blends with the paint and looks like glass.
Thanks!
Thank you so so much 🥹🫶🙏 Merry Christmas!!
Just stumbled across this channel while going down the UA-cam rabbit hole today 😅 I wish I could tell you in person but, this will have to do for now. I love your make shift paint both, love the enthusiasm. You will get alot of what and what not to do from other people, so I will just wish you good luck and keep going.
Boa noite!! Adorei ver sua dedicação! Me lembrou quando comecei na pintura automotiva, as mesmas dificuldades. Parabéns!!
My all respects for you by the way thanks for teaching us personally I really appreciate it
Thank you so much! That means a lot! 🙏

That's a lot of good information for sure 😌
@ Thank You! I was just trying to pass along what I’ve learned over the years and hopefully it helps someone.

@ that’s actually why I started a UA-cam channel was to pass my knowledge on to future generations. Thank you for your kind words.

Merry Christmas to you too! 🙏😊 You're too kind! I appreciate your support always!
You have a beautiful voice. Keep pushing and thankyou for sharing. Always love seeing you and what ur up to
That came out great 👍 I love paint projects like that. Your paint booth is a smart idea. I know it's a bit late, but merry Christmas/Happy New Year. I know what you mean about missing your loved ones who aren't here anymore ❤.
Great to see you happy and enjoying yourself again. Hope you and the kiddos have a great Christmas
You are so adorable and gorgeous I love watching you learn and wrench and build.
She is 😍
Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and the kids !!!!
Merry Christmas 😊
When i paint im thinking i got everything under control and i know what im doing until something crazy comes at me from way out in left field . Im talking out there in the hi grass !!! My advice to you is adapt and overcome !!! Its so refreshing to see a woman doing what us men do for fun .
I was today years old when i ran across your channel . Your fun to look at and interesting to watch .. im gonna hang around here n watch you paint n root you on from east Tn !!! Good luck you got this !!!
Great video indeed. You definitely did all the right things to get started at spraying with a gun.
@BlackLabGarage had some great advice as did others in the comments.👍🏾
My suggestions would be to keep your pressure at about 20-22psi when spraying base, and 25-28psi when spraying clear.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for all the support!
I'm proud of you, you did well and it looks nice.
Great , fine job. I love watching you and learn as we go❤
You’ve got some really good advice from some knowledgeable painters as a painter myself.
Looks pretty good with what you had, metallic is always interesting to work with. Nice job
Well hello it's Dec 23-2024 . Marry Christmas to everyone in your home . Single mom power , women hot Rod Nut . Two thumbs up .
You are courageous and hilarious! Love watching you!
You have a beautiful voice. I should hop over to Colorado with my guitar and play while you sing.
If you start and stop, start 4-6" out from your panel. That way, you spatters won't be on the product. Happy painting!
Well hello little devil😂
Kudos from Oz…..Well done that’s what it’s all about, just having a go. As long as you have an open and curious mind you will always be learning 👏
if you sand the metallic basecoat, you need to re coat the basecoat before clear, or you will have scratch marks under the clear
I had no more paint lol but I really just needed to get those chonkies off, I wasn't going to clear over them. I used 2000 grit 😅 for chonkie removal. No scratches thank goodness!!
Sanding metallics is a very big no no, getting the chunkies off with a tag rag would have done the job and not damage the underlying paint.
Definitely will have scratch marks..!!!! 600-800 grit should be coverable.
@@aa-xh6emSometimes even us pros need to sand...... It's inevitable even in $1mil booths
Congratulations Kirstie!!! You'll be a pro in no time! Hope your Christmas was great 🎉🎉
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
The bumper looks great, glad you used a paint gun, it gives you more options in the future and keep practicing.
Merry Christmas to you too! Thanks for the support!!🥹
Kristie, you rock! Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄🎊🍻💨💯. Just take your time and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. It just takes time and patience. Peace ❤
I painted my first bumper a couple weeks ago ! Practice makes progress 😊
i've never used a paint gun in my life or painted anything more than brackets, etc... so watching a novice take the plunge and share what she learns is inspiring. thanks!
gotta confess i saw a pretty girl and clicked but you're legit.
Well heck yeah! This made me smile. 😊 I do appreciate the support. The clickbait wasn't intended, im sorry! But also glad it worked! 😂
Learning is truly so fun! 😊 merry Christmas!
You rock love all you do thanks and merry Christmas to you and your family.
Good work and looking lovely lady ❤️
Great advice thank you for the time! Definitely took a screenshot for future use! Merry Christmas!
We love you ❤️
As people have said, ideally use/spray 2k clear coat but sort out some extraction or just let air circulate well.
I love your channel always inspiring and never give up attitude😎👍
You may want to add a water trap to your compressor. That will keep water out of the paint.
Yes I so agree
I'm gonna do that! 😅🙏 can be honest and say I had no idea what that even was. Thank you
Hint you can't get better at something unless you make a mistake and learn from it, we love you so much best wishes to you and your family keep smiling, lots of love from Scotland
Great work !!, keep pushing forward !!, hoping to do my first paint job this coming spring... Very inspiring to watch 1st timers do such great work. Thanks.
Merry Christmas darlings! 😆Hope y'all have a big Christmas!! 🎄❤
Hope yours was fantastic! 🎄🎁
@ it was great! I got the headers on the Mustang tonight. Think I’m gonna work on the radiator tomorrow.
Merry Christmas buddy!!!! I hope its an amazing day for you! And I'm such a sucker for a beautiful sunset 😍
Only use a UV protective clear when you’re ready.
You did a great job.
Happy Holidays To You And Your Family Kirstie 🎄
Happy holidays!😊
I was your first viewer! Just caught it when you posted and had no views! I love your videos! Merry Christmas Kirstie!
Merry Christmas, Kirstie 🎅
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I like your singing. you're so inspiring
Sorry Kirstie,i spelt your name wrong, oops.
Merry Christmas to you too! Thanks for the support, It's definitely been a learning experience!
Kind regards
John

Hey, that’s the way you do it girl just get in there. Knock it out. Good job.👍
Merry Christmas kirsti hope you have a wonderful holiday
Merry Christmas to you too! Hope you enjoy the holidays!
Great video, good job with the gun!
Great job getting in there and getting er done. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Merry Christmas to you too! Hope you enjoy the holidays! Thanks for the support always 🥹🫶
Merry Christmas to you too. Don't forget to treat yourself as well. ❤
Looks Great!! Nice Job!!
Hi you can add 1 pint of thinners to your paint if it hasn't been done already.
Trust me, you knocked it out of the park. Merry Christmas
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Fine job nice lady, all takes practice
#1 EVERYTHING is in the prep. From the surface, to the environment, to the timing.
#2 Take a couple looks at Smeedia on his RX7. He can see the clear difference in his technique as he was learning. Painting a car is almost like performing WuShu motions. Smooth, even, consistent. Knowing where to start in weird pockets to get the smoothest and best coverage. Lots of wrist action.
Have a great Christmas and a happy new year
Hello Kristy, next time you wet sand just put some water in a bucket with a few drops of Dawn Dish soap. It makes it easier to sand parts and keeps the sandpaper clean. You and your kiddos have a Merry Christmas! ✌️
That's awesome advice I'm going tontry that next time!! Thank you! ✊️ and merry Christmas to you and yours!!
I think it looks great! Good job! Have a Merry Christmas 🎁🎄
Have you tried getting your paint supplies from the color wheel on pitkin in junction ..there pretty decent..you did a great job as usual
Nothing like a hot female painting a car you're one of the rare breeds and a gift from God keep up the good work
Im down in springs.
Wow! 🤯 That's a lot of great info, I appreciate the advice! Thank you so much! I took a screenshot for sure! Merry Christmas!!
Thanks so much for taking the time to drop me a couple tips! Soaking in all the knowledge! Appreciate you 🙏 merry Christmas!!
U r awesome Kirstie. I believe in u too
You did a good job. The metallic looks even, very little orange peel and it's shiny. What else can you ask for? LOL
For future reference, mixing different kinds of paint, (one sprayed on top of another) can be dangerous.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Same to you! Merry Christmas!
Hell yeah girl,
Painting takes time to learn. Just be careful with that compressor. Them smaller one don't have the cfm to keep with Painting a whole car. Keep it up you're rocking girl. 😉 ✌️
You rock Merry Christmas to you and your kids
Should pop the toe hook cover on the bumper before painting so it matches. Maybe get a gun filter to catch moisture?
This gavs me the confidence to spray my daughters escape fender and bumper. Its a silver metalic too. Merry. Christmas.
Yes yes yes!!! ✊️
Just remember Christy the three p's of painting, preparation plus practice equals perfection
Younwill have to buy a gallon of paint for the Nova that mixes 1:1...... You never want to run out of paint...
Omni plus is absolutely fine and cheaper for base coat... We at PPG use om inwhen doing an overall because it easily saves $500-$1000 over DBC...
Lime line has clear coat for fair price.
there are a lot of different REdusers for different temps ranges
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
As a couple people have said sanding base coat is a no-no especially with metallics without applying more BC over it.
Hang up some masking paper & pour water in your gun & play with the settings, it sounds crazy but it works seriously…
Keep your chin up & have fun 👍
I used 2000 grit just to get all those chunkys off. I didn't want to just clear over them and I didn't have more paint. Surprisingly no scratches showed through! Thanks so much for all the tips! Definitely going to play around with some water! Sounds cheap!! 🤣 and I need that in life right now! Thanks for the support!! 🫵✊️
Merry Christmas ⛄⛄
Merry Christmas to you too! 😊🎄
those rattle can clears will work but you want to spray them while the paint is still tacky that way the clear blends with the paint and looks like glass.
