    Alright man I'm gonna try and help you out best i can here, i do this for a living but my work is mainly classic car restoration.
    Starting with primer you should always spray with 1.7-2.0 fluid nozzle and you are ok to lay it on wet just give it time to flash off before applying second coat. Never go above 220 as the material needs a deeper stratch for adhesion, most primers require 180-240.
    As for your sanding process you can go 400 after 220 BUT it's better to hit it with the sander as you'll remove the previous sand scratches much easier and also orbital scratches get filled by paint much better. You also need to invest in guide coat so that you'll see if primer is fully sanded out, also need sanding blocks whether it be something like dura block or a soft foam type because you just taking the paper by hand to the panel without any backing can leave finger indentations on the sanded surface

    Tips to help, you don't necessarily need to prime the car if you just sand off the 400 unless its a crazy color change which in this case I could see but if want to save even more money. Go the length of the car when passing and you want a 70 percent overpass, common misconception is 50 percent over pass. Use red scotch brite for jams and more difficult areas, easier then a folded piece of sand paper. Keep gun parallel with the panel, if it curves, curve with it. Take your time on your passes, you don't need to rush through them, about 1 foot per a second. You'll get better with time but your doing amazing, you gained another sub, keep up the work!

    Nice job overall! I have several recommendations.
    1. If you can find a place with a spray booth, maybe rent a booth for the day you need to spray the base or clear for final to minimize dirt nibs and bugs.
    2. Use Spectrum PPS system
    3. harbor Freight Fortress ultra quiet 26 gallon one works very well and is super quiet.
    4. Adhesion promoter for plastic parts that got sanded through bare plastic.
    Good luck and keep up the good work!

    Think it's cool how you don't keep out all the events of the days that come with working on cars, cause weather you're working on your car or not life goes on around you and things can come up that intervene with your process. Gives your videos more character and it's enjoyable to see what happens next, maybe not for people trying to use your videos as tutorials.

    15:05 when masking its easier to back mask and then put paper or plastic. pretty much grab a huge strand of tape and line the edges but sticky side towards you on the inside of the door. then grab paper and put tape on the top of it. then you stick tape to tape and its easier and quicker to line everything up

      @korosumyself also, you don't want primer to get wet either. It's like a sponge and we'll soak it up just like the Bondo will. Dupli-Color makes a primer sealer that works amazing. Spray can, it's like eight or nine dollars at O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

    I'm with you brotha, take off as much as you can even if mostly taping off, even the mirrors get in the way and can help lead to runs, elevate the car to get better coverage down low. Also may want to consider dipping cars, cost of paint probably comes out similar after you have their spray gun but is a quarter of the preparation effort, and if you change your mind you can either peel it off or simply spray over it 👌

      I feel you man, only some of those colors look good matte but they do have gloss top coats that seem to mimic clear. I've got some Integras for sale that I'm excited to test it out and love the idea I can focus more on repairs than paint prep and doesn't even have to be clear coated but more like 800 + grit level of smooth. Fun to experiment!

  • @shoopnooop2952
    @shoopnooop2952 6 місяців тому

    The purple hvlp spray gun is considered to be a good spray gun that when it's on sale can be gotten for $10 or if you need it now it's $16. It's so cheap that some people just buy a new one after every car project instead of cleaning it. It's wasteful to do that but if you value your time just factoring another $16 dollars before tax into the paint job isn't much in the grand scheme of things. They also have on the next sale coming in june a random orbit sander for $15 and a da polisher for $40 so if you want to start with a decent polisher i'd wait till next month and get the polisher and the paint sprayer for $56 before tax and have a decent start into painting minus the air compressor. If you don't want to use the da for sanding you can add the random orbit sander so the da stays cleaner. Also if you want cheap paint you should look into farm implement paint since it's pretty cheap and also pretty forgiving and can go on bare metal if you just want something to prevent rust and add color at once.

    You were saying that priming the whole car wasn’t necessary but you were doing a complete color change from red to white so priming the entire car was the correct thing to do otherwise you would be taking a chance of white looking pink because certain colors don’t cover or have the pigment in it to cover .

  • @186scott
    @186scott 6 місяців тому

    When painting a car if you are changing color spray the whole car in primer like you did but if your respraying it the color it is or a different shade of that color you don't need to prime the whole car and the reason is if the car is red like this one and you spray it white any body work that has been primered Will show up lighter than the red base of the old paint and will actually require more paint to get rid of that blotchiness costing more than if you primered then base coat
