  • In today's video, we're going to tackle a controversial topic that we see debated all the time - whether or not you should use mods or console commands to marry Serana.
Serana is one of the most popular companions added in the Dawnguard DLC, and many players admire her complex personality and backstory. We've seen countless requests from fans wanting to take the relationship further through marriage.
But is it really a good idea? In this video, we'll explain in depth why marrying Serana goes against her character arc and the intentions of the developers. We'll look at how it clashes with her personality, her traumatic backstory, and the logical flaws that come with marrying a vampire.
There's a lot to unpack here, but by the end of the video, you'll understand all the roleplaying and story implications that make a Serana marriage so problematic. This is a nuanced issue, so we'll try to explain both sides before giving our verdict.
Whether you agree or disagree with us, we think this will lead to an interesting discussion! So make sure to watch through to the end, and leave your thoughts in the comments below. And don't forget to like and subscribe if you want to see more Skyrim modding videos and commentary. Now let's get into it!

I still think that Serana is just the perfect wife/girlfriend for a Dragonborn. In this video, I can only agree with one statement - she needs time, that's right. But the fact that she did not show any interest in the Dragonborn in terms of romance is not true. In the game it can be noticed, but not so often. Even when Serana refuses marriage, she does not deny having feelings for Dovakin. One of the options for her answers: "Listen, I like you and I'll go anywhere with you, but it's not for me." Yes, at the moment she is not ready for marriage, she needs time. Dovakin will be by her side and give her this time, help her, support her. Serana has been through a lot, but she is a strong character, she will cope with her past. Vampirism can be cured, and I am inclined to believe that she will do so in the end, because she was turned against her will, and now she will make her choice. This will be her step towards a new life, where she will be able to open up to new things, including marriage. But even if there is no marriage, what prevents Dovakin and Serana from loving each other outside of marriage? Nothing. And all that it says there is only platonic relationships and so on, I just laugh at such people.

We, as the Dragonborn, will help her fight her daddy, help her learn all the secrets that interest her and cure her of vampirism, so when she said that "marriage is not for her NOW" because she needs time to heal emotionally. I can't find a reason why we couldn't:
      1. keep helping her, explore and live as two mortals and deepen our bond to finally get married and live a happy life as it suits us.
      2. just give her time to explore, and learn about the world on her own and come back to us after some time because she understands that we helped her and worried about her all this time for her sake, not for anything else.
Edit: 3. We can be lovers and still live together like we did whole time but without official marriage.
Serana x Dragonborn is the best option for both of us. So the episode doesn't make sense and I don't invite you to discuss that it's different, because it's not.

Whilst Serana does sometimes flirt with the player as stated by some rando's here, you're right that marrying her is a bad idea.
The character as seen in Dawnguard really needs that time to heal, being pressured into marriage by her best friend would not be a good thing, bethesda did the right thing, for once.

    • @Deathly_Visage

Rando here. I think that if Bethesda had made her marriable in the base game, they probably wouldn't have handled it in a responsible way.... likely making a copy/paste system at the Temple of Mara in Riften, which wouldn't work for her character. This is one of the reasons I advocate for SDA over other mods that make her marriable. Because, at the very least the story arch in SDA has her come to terms with her past and in addition to this, when she's ready and the rapport with the player is great, she'll be the one who brings up marriage. And keeping in theme with her trepidation of temple ceremonies, if you go the romance route in the mod, you end up eloping. Like I said in another comment, say what you want about this mod... but I truly believe it handles this aspect of the player's relationship with Serana in a more responsible way especially compared to other mods.

Saying that Serana never flirts or doesn't hint at a romanntic interest towards to player is inaccurate. Sure, it doesn't happen often, and in some playthroughs those types of interactions may not happen.
Player: What do you know about the Elder Scrolls?
Serana: mean... as much as anyone. Not a lot. You'd figure a couple hundred years locked away with one would have given me some insights, but no. Turns out you don't learn much from just sleeping with something.
Player: Are you saying you want to learn more about me?
Serana: Not at this rate, no. (or) I guess you'll never get to find out.
"I guess you'll never get to find out" literally has script notes in the creation kit labeling it as "this is flirty, not dismissive".
There are script notes for the scene right before entering the Soul Cairn (assuming you didn't pick any of the neutral or rude dialogue options) indicating how she's "pleased the player agrees" (if you choose to turn into a vampire) or how she's "happy she made a connection" with the player (if you choose to get soul trapped).
There's also a dialogue branch called "DLC1NPCMentalModelAdulteryZOMG". Basically what this branch does is allow you to ask Serana to marry you even if you're already married. And depending on what you told her earlier when she asked you about your family, she'll either respond with disgust/anger (seems to happen if you told her you were happy or unhappy in the marriage) Or, she'll respond with sadness "You're sweet to say that, but you need to sort things out on your own. It's not something I'm going to get involved with."
Even the some lines of the marriage addressal branch indicate less of a flatout rejection or more of her trepidation at the concept of a formal marriage. In other words, her saying things like "Look, I care about you. A lot. And I'll come with you wherever you want to go. But... with everything in my past, I don't think I could bring myself to go into a temple and ask for that kind of blessing. It's just... it's not for me." makes it sound more like because of her past, she believes she doesn't deserve to be married... not that she isn't interested in the player in a more than platonic way.
Also, there's the fact that she's uniquely referred to as a romanticfollower in the CK. She's the only one with that handle. If you spent any time looking at this character in depth in the Creation Kit, it becomes obvious that Bethesda most likely intended for her to be romancable (albeit maybe not in the mara preserve our marriage way) but possibly had to scrap it due to time constraints.
All this being said, I don't appreciate the mods that force a marriage on her in a completely unnatural way. Say what you want about this mod, but IMO SDA handles it the best especially in regards to how it addresses her trauma and helps her move past that. (Earlier versions weren't great, but it got better overtime with feedback.)

Good point about not all mods being made equal. I personally think it only makes sense to marry Serana in mods that tweak her personality, or add more character development where she works through some of her traumas. But in the end, it isn't the same Serana in those mods, and the Serana in vanilla Skyrim just doesn't make sense to marry.

Actually, she always flirts. One of her best (and constantly repeated) lines is: "I thought you'd never ask" when you invite her to follow you. Another one, even more flirty, is: "I knew you would miss me".
She also has an early flirty remark in the sense that one doesn't get to know anything or anyone by just sleeping with it/them. She says that while she speaks about her Elder Scroll but the remark has a double entendre in it and the Dragonborn is allowed to ask her if she wants to sleep with them. I do agree that it makes sense for Serana to desire independence and platonic relationships given her background, and there's certainly nothing wrong with a pretty platonic follower.
That being said, I can't agree with the arguments for Serana's marriage being impractical. Vanilla Skyrim gives the player options to both join Serana in vampirism (as a pureblood via her father, Serana herself, or as a common vampire via any other vampire NPC in the game) or to have her join the Dragonborn in mortality (via the cure dialogue options), both of which render the practicality discussion moot. Even for those players that ignore all these vanilla options, a vampire / mortal relationship is not an unworkable one, as seen by the game allowing the Dragonborn to marry non-vampire NPCs while being (or becoming) a vampire themselves.
Each of the individual objections is also undercut either by gameplay or lore. For vampires not being able to conceive children and being forced to rely on adoption...that's the same for literally every marriageable NPC in the game, going off of vanilla gameplay which only allows children by adoption. Maybe this is simply a mechanical limit, or maybe it's the game hinting that the Dragonborn themselves is unable to have children naturally (this would certainly reinforce the idea of them being the Last Dragonborn, since they would be unable to pass on their dragon blood to natural-born children as did Tiber Septim or Alessia). In either case, it's not a problem unique to a vampire / mortal match in Skyrim, and thus not really an obstacle to their union. Dietary conflicts are also overstated. The lore does establish that vampires can eat normal food, though they cannot survive off of it alone and thus prefer raw meats and other food that provides some form of the blood they need to survive. This doesn't make the kitchen useless, but it does mean there's going to be something different and potentially off-putting in it. But that isn't a unique or deal-breaking problem, at least according to the game's own logic. It allows the Dragonborn to marry ordinary people just fine while using Namira's ring, being a Wood Elf, or being a vampire, even though these would introduce similar dietary complications. It also provides the Bosmer Faendal and Imperial Camilla as a possible vanilla NPC couple, meaning that having strange meat in the cupboard isn't necessarily a deal-breaker in the lore. As for safety concerns requiring wearing armor to bed, Serana herself shows this isn't true. Depending on your quest choices, she may spend nearly all her time day and night hanging out with a mortal Dragonborn (and possibly another mortal follower), as well as being around all the mortals in the Dawnguard - and in all that time she never once has to be pried off somebody's armored neck for losing control of her thirst in the middle of the night. Vampires are perfectly capable of controlling themselves and any relationship that's built up enough trust for marriage and romance to even be a possibility should also be a relationship where the mortal doesn't have to worry about the vampire snacking on them while they sleep (unless it's consensual: we don't judge). The only real problem that would remain is the vampire's immortality and the mortal's limited lifespan, but since the game and lore have mortal men and immortal mer marrying each other, this isn't seen as an insurmountable problem either.

The reason Serana wasn't marriageable is the same reason Frea wasn't marriageable, they were uniquely voiced characters that Bethesda didn't want to spend the time and money recording new lines and writing code for Hearthfire and the marriage system (or a potential new and unique system). If Bethesda thought that they could have made money off of it, and if they wanted to spend the time even doing it, then they would have made Serana and Frea marriageable. It came down to time and money. It was easier and cheaper to make them both have a few lines rejecting marriage.

Yes I do agree she needs time, when you have a childhood like hers you would need time to recover, but she never really denied having feelings for the Dragonborn and really you forgot to mention that you can just cure her in the game if you’ve chosen the dawnguard, you don’t need mods or cheats when it’s literally an option. And getting her cured will fix the “she’s a vampire so you can’t marry her” argument.

Of course, not forcing her into marriage is the right thing to do but marrying her does not break roleplay. She can be cured of vampirism or you can become a vampire, both options are legitimate in the game. Conceiving children is not an option for any vanilla spouse, so the Dragonborn family always adopts kids. Alas, this means the Last Dragonborn doesn't establish a dynasty based on blood but well, life sometimes offers lemons.

This game has dragons, and they talk, talking cats, talking dogs, wear wolves, wear bears, elves.. ex.. ex.. So one picks up the game and plays the Dawnguard DLC. They play about 6-8hrs of game time only to get to the end of it all and to be told NO. Now, lets compare that to Miss Ysolda, grab her a tusk and if your a Khajiit, well.. no problem. She's knocking you down to get to Riften for marriage.. Lol. So little work for such a reward and yet.. Miss Serana? Your toon runs all over Skyrim to do quest for her. Then your toon risk life and limb in game (if one is playing final death). Then you face one of the most powerful vampire lords in Skyrim and beat him... Yeah, they should have made it so one could marry her. Was a dumb idea from Bethesda. If Serana needed time, fine.. let her have it, np. I usually role as a vamp so lets look at it from there.. Mom moves back home so she can do her mom thing in the garden. One takes over as the new vampire lord in the castle and gets the place fixed back up.. Only to be told Nope. Again, I do like some of the things you've said in the video, but at the end of the day if one doesn't want to marry Serana for the reasons you mention, fine. I get that the Dawnguard story would not have happened, but then again, this is a game company that prides itself on "player choices", and then proceeds to take control away from the player and forces them down a preset path, and calls it "player choice". You joined a guild of vampire hunters, Serana's a vampire... do the math. You would miss out on her being an awesome teammate because you made a reckless choice, but it should have been your choice to make. It's not our fault that Bethesda devs are lazy and couldn't be bothered to program branching paths.

While I do agree that marriage is most likely off the table… romance isn’t. It would actually be incredibly powerful if done right to show an arc of her realizing that intimacy isn’t an act of dominance or submission but of love. To say that a romance with her would be out of the table would be to deny her an actual healthy way of dealing with her trauma. In fact, it’s actually what victims of her circumstances sometimes do, because there’s a certain liberation that comes with CHOOSING to be intimate with someone rather than being forced into it. It feels like you’ve claimed your body back, of course the trauma isn’t ever going to go away, but it can be helped.

I think it's worth noting, the issue isn't with marrying Serana, it's just that Skyrim's marriages are very one-dimensional. Like with Serana clearly not being the type to settle down, no one can tell me that Aela's the type who would want to become a house-wife after being a Companion. It's implied more than once in Dawnguard that she might have some sort of romantic interest in the Dragonborn, and the writers had to have known that players would want her as a marriage option. But Skyrim's type of marriage is a blanket that doesn't cover a number of characters in the game appropriately.
What I think they should have done, is have a romance option that doesn't involve marriage. You're 'together', you're partners, but you're not married. That would have just made more sense. I'd argue that the Serana Dialogue Add-On mod handles this fairly well as a whole, though I would agree that there shouldn't be any overt romance options during the Dawnguard quest line because that just doesn't make sense and they should only appear after the Dawnguard campaign is complete.

I'm on somewhere about 100th play in 11 years and yes I still drop newer games to go back to Skyrim I have it both on PC and Xbox One/X and I enjoy in the original and modded... I think I have married everybody in the at one time or other including Serana.... there's nothing with it, it's not like you chain Serana to the bed post and tell her, she just going to a f**K toy or the home version of a tavern wench... THEN I'd be sleeping in the local church!! THIS is my opinion alone (I think) and I do understand your point which is a valet one. Just think a RPG'er will play how they feel towards the game, lastly break the damn rules lol

Sda and IFD are the two most powerful mods in my opinion for a legit canon follower. Giving the player the choice with both. Deepening the connection between the dragonborn and serana truly is a master piece. I think in SDA it should have taken longer to marry but it also helps fill in some blanks like why the dragonborn didnt kill her in the first place. She could have been less horny like a teenager but it can all be toggled on and off so that really isnt that bug of a deal. All in all i think these mods have changed the way we look at some of these followers that were just kinda blank ya know?

I just wanted to say i never really used mods on serana, but if i did it would be messed up thing to do, But she's been going through a lot lately since her messed up childhood, and she really needs time to heal from all this mess that she got into, and we all as dragonborn will help her and protect her and support her in any way we can, So that she can feel like she's more free and happy when we both explore the open world of tamriel too let all the bad things get of her mind, and so that the good things can come to her and feel more open and happy with the dragonborn. and one day, her time will or might come with a romantic relationship when she feels like she wants to be bonded with the dragonborn. And always show her respect, honesty, and trust.

  • @Lorenzo_I.

You say that she shouldn't be in a relationship because she wouldn't want to be "forced into a situation where someone else makes major life decisions for her". You also say that she wouldn't want to be "chained down" or "manipulated and controlled". That's not what relationships entail, at least not good ones. Nothing about her inherently means that she couldn't find solace in a romantic partner. Your assumptions about what a relationship would involve are just really odd to me.
Not being able to conceive is also an odd point. Like, that's not something that everyone seeks from a spouse. Regardless, that in no way reflects on her ability to partake in a fruitful relationship.

  • @Bradley_UA
    @Bradley_UA 7 місяців тому

Serana is hands down the best character in that she can affect the player more that any other, whether the player choses to simp later is a different thing. Although in my case it was even more amplified, lol. Oh god, what a rant. I dont think i can do a TL:DR. I think she is special in both what sort of character she is, and how she is technically presented in the game, but youll have to spend the five minutes to read it lol.
    \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
So i didnt know anything about tes lore when starting playing, but i knew its about being dragonborn, so when i saw the first race were lizzardmen, it was settled. The game i enjoyed, lore an everything, but it was a bit gamey. The fact that all skyrim's "adventuring" argonians are thiefs or thugs only made me feel more separate from the people... Sure ralof and gerdur were nice to me, but then you move on from this mortal civil war buisness onto dragornborn buisness... Apparetntly I am shaping the fate of Nirn over here, equal to dragons, chosen by gods. Any heart warming moment with ralof or Karliah or isolda lasts for a short while, but i am not anything like them.
Of course in reality these characters are just npcs and the world is just a game for me to play with and explore whatever game mechanics i want. And i think everyone plays a game this way on their fort playthrough, to an extent. But like i said in my case i felt it even more because all these choices and factors i feelt my character being shaped as a persom: a dragonborn lizzard, just like the dragons hoarding gold, cool spells and artifacts and powers. Including vampirism. Makes you think what sort of person willing to become undead and drink human just because "oh but there are some cool abilities coming with it".
The only thing then that was keeping him from acting like an actual dragon is the way of the voice as described by the graybeards. I really enjoyed that bit, the dovakin initiation and stuff. So thats the only bit of honor and morality in my charater. But to think of marrying anyone, or being friends with anyone? Sorry, but i cant care about any of them, they are too shallow as characters, and i am not of thi world both as a player and as a charater.
    \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
And then when i install the dawnguard quest, hoping to get some cool abilities as a vampire, i meet serana. The whole sequence is pure gold, the way she is foreshadowed, how you solve a silly puzzle to unlock her, how she falls out of the tomb making me want to catch her, all the first conversations, all of that is already more that you get from any NPC in the game, in my opinion. But when its over, its over. I expect the quest to be over and her gone, because thats what usually happens, and because i hate having a follower...
But she doesnt want to leave. She has her needs and goals, unlike any other character in the game, she is with me for longer that a quest, and now im stuck with her having to do what she wants OUTSIDE of the quest, in my free play territory! No other quest in the game has this sort of urgency, no other charater aserts themselves this way. And while she is with, even though i am annoyed, i am unknowingly getting used to her way too much. She stays at the castle for the next quests, just long enough for me to start missing her, but then when she asks me to follow her, i am happy, and from that i am hooked to bring her with me on every future dawnguard quest and care more about her story.
And what a story... Apparently she is out of this world, just like me, but unlike me she cares about her personal buisness, her family, her trauma, etc. She could take over the world with her father or kill her father and do it herself, but she doesnt, not because she choses good or whatever, but simply because she cares about different things.
Of course in every storyline there are characters that care about things other than power, but they are just average skyrim people. Serana is more relatable, to my lizzard at least, and in that way to me, since i already explained how i identify with this character. And becaue me/my character care about her, in a way he had his own characte arc: he was just trying to get powers and cool bow, but he ended up finding someone he regarded as equal, and being changed by her in ways more than just getting more powers.
And of course i enjoy her occasional flirty phrases (that exist) and her appearance (vanilla appearance), but marrying her never crossed my mind. Hugging an kissing? Maybe. But not most things i see when i search "serana" on nexus, skimpy outfit for serana is hot, and sure if the story continued for a few centuries after the game events, then maybe things would get sexual, especially since this immoral dovakin character is probably the only person she can relate to herself. But a few centuries havent passed yet, and as of right now anything sexual or romantic feels rapey and forcefull, exactly as the video describes. It completely destroys eveything about her that moved me and made me care in the first place.

How could anyone get the idea that asking someone to marry you and them saying yes means that you've forced them into marriage?
I get why it might be weird to use console commands to make her be married to you after she rejected you, but that's not a problem with mods.
Though as someone who can't help but optimize everything he can, marrying her would mean that I either loose out on her as a companion or the gold her shop would make.
BTW: The AIs might just have gotten that good but this video has a bit of an GPT vibe to it.

    A few points
    1. Vampires can have children in oblivion the grey prince is a half vampire.
    2. Her willingness to become human seems to go against lore. She loves being a vampire, just not what she had to do to become one. Also becoming human means that what she had to suffer through is ultimately meaningless.
    3. she has a greeter aversion to holy places like temples and religious ceremonies, not necessarily the concept of spending her life with someone.
    4. you also make the case that her marrying you would invalidate her journey of independence. However, her journey looks a lot like her following my lead.
    5. How much time is enough time? When is it appropriate for a character to move on from their past especially when they could be traveling with a dragon born for decades or centuries on his adventures?

    • @user-mr3mo5iz8i
      @user-mr3mo5iz8i 5 місяців тому

To the second point, I want to add that yes, Serana likes her powers only because she had to endure terrible suffering in order to receive them. She thinks she totally deserves them. However, the decision to become the Daughter of Cold Harbor was not hers, but Harkon and Valerie's. The opportunity to heal Serana and her joy after that suggests that those sufferings for the sake of strength are not meaningless. Just for the sake of finding happiness, sometimes you need to give up something. Vampirism caused her suffering, psychological trauma and the destruction of her family. Her willingness to let go of this power may indicate that she is striving for change, and the fact that she listened to Dovakin and, to some extent, healed for his sake, also has its weight.

As for No1., Vampires are a bit of a mess in TES. RIght now, we have over three different diseases that cause vampirism and then, suddenly, a ritual associated with Molag Bal makes you a vampire lord OUTSIDE the normal disease route (in Harkon's own words). My bet is that only some strains of vampirism allow having children, probably because they are not true undead/vampires.
In ESO, there's also Lamae's own ritual, being a toned down version of the Molag Bal's one...and a substrain called Chaotica Vampiris that affects only existing vampires.

She even takes your advice at the end if you say she should become human and it doesn't appear to be a romantic gesture but, peer pressure by a sibling. I always felt the dialogue add on takes an "adopted sister" character and turns her into a wild sexpot temptress and that is unfortunate.

They can't even handle a fictional 'no' without taking critical damage to their masculinity for some reason. Some brothers are just that in the trenches, even if the rest of us can see what you mean. Hell, I'm sure that sort is in the comment section right now if we look, reeeing about how Serana is a hoe or something because the direct canon lines say it's not on the table. Try telling them the fictional women wouldn't and couldn't sleep with these sorts, it doesn't work, they're manchildren and they're big mad you would even suggest letting it go.

I can name 1000 ways a relationship with a vampire could work. Especially if your a Vampire. Also.. You should brush up on Vampiric lore. While yes they drink blood and all that good stuff, the more evolved ones don;t need to and can eat and drink like any regular mortal. Yes they require blood on occasion, but not in large quantities. High vampires are almost entirely indistiguishable from a human unless they show it.
When your immortal, you can wait and have time for it. If you wanted to wait for her to be ready as you point out in the video. The problem, is that you look at this issue through the eyes of a mortal. Not one who looks at 100 years as if it was the blink of the eye.
In fact the best argument is simply that Serana doesn't like you like that. And thats really the only logical one. Maybe she will in 100 years maybe not. But reguardless you do not "Do it for her". And she is not attracted to you. Mainly because your the good guy. Her psychology, history, and lore make it clear the people she has a romantic attraction to are very bad men. She has what we call in the psychology field as "Daddy Syndrome". She likes egomaniacal bad boys. Which, as the dragonborn, you are not. So you get "Friend Zoned".
There are plenty of other Vampiric women, and other Immortals, you can marry and have a relationship with. Serana is one of those women that you do what you need to do, and then toss her back to the streets where she belongs.

@user-mr3mo5iz8i Seriously based upon the game if they made a canon version of the Dovahkin... I could only imagine the ending would be him marrying a human Serana where he joined the Dawnguard and eventually killed Miraak.
If in the Elder Scrolls 6 came around. I'd imagine any lore about the Dovahkin would be that he changed the Prophecy of Alduin by slaying him. Met a a daughter of Coldharbour and stopped a prophecy of Vampires taking over the sun. Then cured her of Vampirism. Then finally killing Miraak.
I'd imagine it would then say something on the lines of the Last Dovahkin disappearing from history.

@@kelphiuspolluxeldanimus6426 I also consider this outcome canonical. Dovakin curing Serana. And after defeating Alduin and Mirak, both of them, hand in hand, as husband and wife, disappear from history, leading a peaceful lifestyle, and after that they go to Sovngard together.

@user-mr3mo5iz8i I agree with most of that. But the same way the hero of Kvatch became sheogorath in Skyrim.
My hunch is in the Elder Scrolls 6 only 1 of 2 outcomes happen.
You'll either hear the Dragonborn got lost trapped by Hermaus Mora in Apocrypha like Miraak did where Serana may have a reappearance asking for the main player to help free him.
Or The Dragonborn has all trace of him lost from history. After he had defeated Alduin.

    False false and still false.
    - You really are holding on hard to some strawman-examples.... For real.....
    1. - If let's say somebody is a vegan can't that person also learn to cook some conventional, not vegan meals in case some friends visit you who are not vegans? Serana is a person with hundreds of years of "life experience" and she also was a human once.... so why should she not be able to already know how to cook normal human meals - and even if she hasn't done it yet, she is certainly intelligent enough to do that.
    2. - Why should her kitchen be filled with only bottles full of blood? If somebody likes let's say Oreos, is their kitchen only filled with Oreo cookies?
    3. - After adventuring together for possibly years in the future you conclusively say that she will never be romantically interested in you? Based on what exactly? If you are with an other person for a long time and give them the correct vibes, I assure you, there is a very good chance they will be romantically interested in you.
    4. - I don't know what kind of medieval concept you have about marriage, but marriage is not about "You stay in the kitchen and clean the house" any more, nor was it always everywhere like that in the normal middle ages. In a normal family the men don't boss around their wives or the other way around - but they discuss issues and make decisions together! Marriage doesn't "chain anybody down" and doesn't take away anybody's "life purpose".
    5. - You also say that marriage is the reason for having kids.... You do know that in real life even people get married who can't have kids either because of a health-issue, like an injury, a genetic disorder or their age (women post menopause) - so getting married and NOT having kids is a perfectly tested and working concept in real life as well. Marriage is not only about making kids.
    6. IF you use a mod to change her into a marriable candidate you can literally write the script, where you ask her and just like the other possible marriage candidates, she can say yes.... or do you imply the the Dragonborn is forcing all the other candidates to marry them as well even tho it's just how the game is written.
    7. IF the game would be a real-living world and not a hard coded PC-game, why would it be impossible to ask her after being together through hundreds of adventures together to ask her the big question? Of course the developers can't put any possible conversation option in the game, cause making games is not at the level where you can write your own questions for the dialogues with NPCs.
    8. If ingame you go all the way to help her turn back to being human again that certainly shows her that you care for her and you are interested in her well being. Otherwise if you couldn't care less you'd say: stay a vampire, or turn back to human, who cares, leave me alone.....
    9. Also the player can turn into vampire in the game, it still doesn't mean that they delete civilians in all cities left and right willy nily .... a vampire can still act normally around humans if necessary, and being near a human doesn't automatically trigger some "blood-hunger" that makes you immediately pounce all humans you come in contact with...
    10. IF the mod makes her a marriage-candidate either through text or through some spell, it's just depending on the maker(s) of that mod how finely textualized it is, or not. With enough work and time put into creating that certain mod, it can be just as a believable and immersive option as marrying any other candidates, many of whom also have more than questionable morals and standards even in Skyrim....
    11. Saying that she is feeling rather weird/awkward going into a temple doesn't mean that it is set in stone.... you know that there are people who have endured horrible mental traumas and with the help of specialists they can work on their difficulties, sort out their issues and fears and return to a normal life accepting parts of their lives.

    - So sorry but not sorry, this video of yours is just a huge mess and is literally filled with the worst ideas I have ever seen why an NPC in a game should not be married.

Great video. Speaking the truth also tends to earn more dislikes, apparently. I also disagree with the idea of marrying Serana for psychological reasons. But since a lot of people (especially male players who have what's known as "Nice Guy syndrome") don't really have good experience with dating and sexuality, they tend to make conclusions that are based on fabricated fantasies, as opposed to experience and evidence.
Serana is a daughter of Coldharbour. What she underwent to become a pureblooded vampire was rape by Molag Bal. Sexual abuse creates immense emotional turmoil for survivors. It doesn't make the women damaged goods, but it massively afflicts their mood, their self-esteem and their ability to relate to men in a healthy way. I'm happy to take friendship with Serana. There are many more women in Skyrim that are objectively more desirable than her, because they're emotionally stable, healthy and independent.

Well, that's great. Choose another one and don't complain, but it's not up to you and the author of the video to decide whether to ship Serana with Dovakin or not. Everyone's business is personal here. Each of us has our own arguments and beliefs.
