THE SKID FACTORY - 1973 Mazda RX3 [Build Review]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- This week on the Skid Factory we dig into one of the builds that Al has been a part of over the last few years, in this case a mint 73 Mazda RX3 that's had lots of time, effort and money spent on it by owner Luke who originally bought it as a rolling shell.

10:12 "Waste gate pipe joined back in for legalities..." It sure is Al ;)
Edit added timestamp
plumbed back to the atmosphere
("wink, wink, nudge, nudge") xD
Need a timestamp.
@@Anonymouspock there ya go🙂
This was the best 😂😂
“The pipe off the wastegate is joined back in as you can see, for legalities” 😂😂😂👌
L I have a single turbo fd 66mm borgwarner with a open waste gate it’s ruthless and can be annoying at times but it’s amazing idk if I could ever recirc it I’ll take the ticket lol
Please include a road test in future vids!!
Yes please..
But did you watch the whole vid bro? he literally said he was going to :')
My fingers were all fired up and ready to say the same thing, and then I finished watching the video.
Please listen to what the creators say before making a statement like this.
Sorry Fellas... Too impatient...
So i googled rotary engine and i now know that boost goes in, and apex seals go out and you have to rebuild your motor
gullf1sk that is the best explanation I’ve seen yet.
they're good for like 3-5 years depends on boost levels and use case. it's fine. good 'nuf for a daily if you're into modding cars a rebuild every 5 years is not that big of a deal.
If you have a bad tune yeah, good tune and proper care will last a while
Add alcohol injection to solve most overheating and carbon build up problems.
wasnt that 20 years ago when seals were shit?. Pretty sure new materials and seals are good now
I want to see the brass donkey collection!! LOL
I was like "man I wonder if that's a real thing?" lmao
Stunning!
I am so so so pleased to see a Rotary inside it, not some LS 👍👌
that just americans they are a special type of special :P
Matthew D ...Yep, no one else on the planet uses the LS.
@@matthewd8296 Your jealousy is showing.
Very interesting video, love this style. Too be fair, Al could talk about a toaster and how it works and it would be interesting.
I imagine it would sound like this,
"If you don't know how a toaster works, Google it, you'll find out"
but only if the toaster is turbocharged
I don’t recall anything from the 70s having a stepper motor tacho that did a full sweep on powerup. Good job, Al.
Haltech :)
I guess all those other gauges can work off the Haltech too.
The Ben Hayes? Of snowboard construction fame?
roxy kupetz Future host of The Hazey Show- all about old cars and motorbikes. No snowboards in sight I’m afraid.
Alan handles the camera in the face like a pro these days. Loving the progress in that regard, you've come a long way! 💪
12:04 If anyone's interested the reason rotaries need a strong muffler is to withstand the constant impact of apex seal chunks.
lol.. but true
Jokes aside, it's actually the exhaust temperature having a tendency to melt muffler and resonator packing material that would otherwise reduce the noise out the tailpipe.
Yes!! A great idea for an awesome series!! Looking forward to more episodes!!
13:45 ... so many shots fired lmao
Should really be a deceased big end bearing
Love the JAF badge on the front, That is like the NRMA ro RACQ same kind of set up. I called them so many times when my wife left the door open on my Legacy GTB in Japan they come out and give you a jump start for free, if you are a member. cool thing is if you are a member it covers all your vehicles also if you are riding with a friend and he brakes down it covers them too.
But could this fit in a Honda?👌
the whole chassis could probably fit in an odysey with some persuasive massaging surely
Turbo Yodas family album
Finaly a real car!!
Bloke_From _NewZealand , finally, from another bloke from nz.

At least nz has a part in that rotary :) chur chur

Long live THE ROTARY ❤❤👌🔥🔥🔥
Proud owner of

1 vert rx7 s5
rotary builder 😎😎
I want a vert, have an 93 fd3s. love it.
@@NEDMInsane fd for the win 👌
Sad that are sooo EXPENSIVE 😭💔
I want a rx8, been a fan since they came out
@@One_LuvZ rx8 you either love it or hate it lol
I love the style but renessis engine one of the worst haha at least the s1 tho because the s2 with the extra oil injector is better
@@JM8686 true, I've told myself if I ever came across one in decent condition. I would locate s2 engine and turn it to a street class time attack car.
Not that I don't love this and everything SF does... But damn... I gotta see that barra up and running.
EDIT: Call the new series "Al points at stuff".
Good God, I can dream of making my 1985 RX-7 this nice. Thanks for going over the tech details! Cheers from Montreal, Canada
A rotary on something MCM related?
"Like I said, don't put shit tires on your fast car or else you'll die and your car will be broken." -Turbo Yoda
Please make this a shirt.
Love this - Straight to the point information without any fluff or music editing montage. THIS is the type of build review I've been waiting for. Great job you guys.
FINALLY!!! A ROTARY! keep them coming boys!
Few mates had Rotas in the early 90s hung out at Aspley 711 and up on Anzac Ave Redcliffe doing the ole street racing as we all did back in the day. One I really liked was Griffos HQ Holden Cyan Blue coloured 808 "RX3" Clone coupe. That little 13b Bridgeport fuckin flew... another mate still has his s1 '73 genuine RX4 sedan now for nearly 30 year's. But I still prefer the fuel economy of a Big Block V8 over a stock 10a anyday.
Review of the brass donkeys collection next time PLEASE
Hey guys, I know Al is a lovely soft spoken chap, is there any chance you could boost his audio a little bit? It's a real struggle to turn it up loud enough to hear him sometimes and I end up feeling like a DJ with how much I adjust that volume dial
Great idea for new series. mcmtv2>mcm
"Pretty rare car, so he didn't want to go cutting it up for a front mount..." Hallelujah!! The world needs more car nuts like your mate....cutting up and turning into drag queens is what makes cars like this (any classic, really) even more hard to come by in good nick. Love me some rotor action! ❤️❤️
Hope the hand is healing up well my brotha!
Yes!! Love the rotors!
The internet has spoken Mr. Yoda... The next build shall be a Rotary... Or else... We'll be sad or something
Just fuckin love this show! No bullshit and loads of crappy music and other ding dongs. Just the pure info! Great job!
considering Australia is one of the few places with good rotary support and fanbase... its about damn time you guys had some rotary love on this channel!
Pretty cool hearing a shout out for Franklin Engineering, went to school with him and have bought a few of his goodies for RBs, good quality gear!
I thought the white noise in the background was some quality QLD rain.
Expat living overseas. You miss that shit.
Omg 😍😍😍😍😍😍 why are these such a unicorn?? Such an amazing build guys love it
@11:40 lol'ed at the R31 skyline handbrake being there for looks. Had one as my first car and I did so much stuffing around replacing handbrake cables and shit before I realised my handbrake wasn't actually broken, and was infact exactly as shit as new.
12a front.. classic simmons.. ohh and sounds mint! the savanna rear lights have almost become more common these days since u don't see any rotors anymore :( :(.. love your work and your appreciation for all things great!
Seems MCM have shit the bed again this week.. hopefully they come and cheer us up, unlike the skid factory, who already have.
That's explains why we burnt the turbo in the 3 ding Sally.
Lil al's tip of the day 345.......
"Don't put shit tyres on your race car or you'll die...."
Please more rotary 🤩🌸❤️
Fuck the Mazda ads, I'll never buy a new Mazda!!!!!
My cuz has a stock rx3 4dr with 140ks on it had it for year's and pay only a few k for it worth a mint now
wow wow WOW!! this video reminds my why I subscribed to this channel few years back
Rx3s are one of my favourite cars ever. But Ae71 corollas handle better and weigh less.
Finally a Wankel big thanks to whoever is behind this series!
Mate your comment about buying good Tyers for ya fast car👌 nailed it wise words that actually apply to any car if like being alive. When you think about it tyres are the only thing actually touching and sticking you to the road!!!
"Dont put sh*t tyres on your fast car.. or you'll be dead, and your car will be broken." He seems more concerned for the build than the driver haha :D
Sooooo good. Coolest car guy, with one of the coolest cars. Still giving myself upper cuts for selling my RX2.
I always have wondered why you use deadhead style fuel systems. I know there's builds where they make sense for packaging etc. But why do you like them so much?
Sounds decent - but I do miss the lumpy, off-beat idle of a PP rotary. Sounds of my youth... :-D
thank you for not putting on a ricer fanboy blow off valve on this classic. Any swift Gti in Als' past ???
I looked up rotary engine. Its amazing you can fit all those cylinders spinning around in such a small engine bay;)
Very nice and thought out build. Would have liked some numbers as to what the engine makes and what it's done down the 1/4 if it's been.
Brass donkeys? I don’t get the reference, or was Al being literal? Any help would be nice.
I had Alfa calliper and diss on my RX3 on the rear hand brake worked as well in 1986
"wastegate is plumbed back in as you can see... For legalities..." 😂😂😂👌
Hell yeah, Dorito time!
How nice! Mazda included a tool kit so you can get your new rotary home from the dealership for the first time. How thoughtful of them.
I really need to see the brass donkey collection now...
"r31 skyline handbreaks only there for looks" i own an r31 and can confirm the handbreak is useless. Wont even hold the car on a steep hill.
Turbo Yoda and an RX3. A match made in heaven 👌👌😩💦🔥
"Subaru piston" had me triggered lmao
Al is a true master of his craft
Please include info on how much power/torque the cars make! Cheers.
Anyone else playing spot the Doritos? Loving the ones hidden on the front suspension top mounts! xD
my parents had two of these when they were rather new. still makes me so sad that they were sold for next to nothing back then :(
What I would give to be Turbo Yodas apprentice for one day
Man, I forgot Skid Factory stuff was on MCM2 :D
its kinda like hoonigans build biology but strayan. just needed shed skids.
“Don’t put shit tyres on your fast car or you’ll die and your car will be broken”
That needs to be a tshirt 😂
I always liked the body style ,here in the states seem like all I saw was the 2dr. Coupe.nice car and the blue looks really good on it !
So MCM needs to do a rotary build, the Yoda already knows what he's doing with them.
As an avid brass donkey collector myself, I totally understand you cost comment 😁
My grandad bought one new in the UK, it was his hero car and he spoke about it right up until he passed. He’d have lost his sh*t if he’d been able to see what the rotary had become in modern times, and so it lives on as a hero engine in a hero car.
Good ol Al. “If you don’t know what a rotary is google it”
12:27 "Like i said, don't put shit tyres on your car otherwise you will die and your car will be broken"
Wonder if it’s the same rx3 I seen while I was driving a month or 2 back
Don't put shit tyres on ya fast car, Or you will die and your car will be broken XD
good stuff. big money spent to avoid cutting into the car. love the factory tacho with the sweep on power up.
how difficult it is to maintain such a motor? does it need blades frequently?
Finally a car that's worth more than a brass donkey collection!
This is the only show I'd get UA-cam Red for..
Don't put shit tyres on your fast car! - that's an MCM T-shirt idea if there ever was one!!
Don't put shit tires on your fast car or you will die and your car will be broken.
O no Hi-lux Rear brakes Bad day when you need to change the shoes LoL
Where's the Barra Bedford guys? Itching to see it!
Al, what do you drive? Or what would be your dream car setup?
Had a R100. It was a blast until it let loose in the rain on a mountain highway. Rolled it.
My dads old 1980 FB has a 12A when he got it and then it blew up
Great video!, thank you. And what a joy it was to watch it without the stupid music.
Cool car! Hoping to meet you guys when you come to Canada.
No drove? I iz sad. Dadly need more such videos....
I’d be as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs if I drove that!
Collection of brass donkeys 😂😂
lol love the wise words "dont put shit tyres on your fast car, or you'll die."
how about a mazda 808 coupe would you call a rx3?? it
Honestly a rotary sounds like such a hassle to build and maintain but they sound amaaaaaaaaaaazing
GOT PSI? love it! sweet plate.
