John, I will forever be grateful to God for my Dad introducing me to fishing. Although he passed in 1977, my memories of our adventures live on May God continue to Bless you, your family and friends.
John Echterhoff
My dad passed away to and he taught me how to fish and I will always miss him so much and I will never forget that
John you are truly a master of fluke fishing like I've seen no other. Thanks for sharing your secrets, your stories, and sorry to hear about your father. I'm sure he's in a better place now.
This video, and the backstory behind it, clearly demonstrates that fishing can be so much more than casting a lure. It is a passion that is shared among family and the love of it can be passed on through generations. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve fishing with my grandfather. As a man in my 50's those memories were a long time ago, but I still have Grandpa Harry's tackle box and some of his tackle. John the memories of your dad and the dock on the river will live forever on in your heart.
sorry about your dad, lost mine about 2 years ago, miss him bad, but I know he lives on thru me and my children, our memories of fishing together will never die, tight lines john.
Thank you as always John for such helpful insight, my condolences about your dad. I tied rigs while watching your videos, it's always the best way to spend time.
Mr Skinner, I appreciate your videos and your commentary very much. You are the best at giving details that ultimately lead to catching more Flounder. I live and fish in NC and your tactics work here as well. Thanks again, and sorry for your loss.
GREAT video. Thanks for the story. It was sad but sweet. Nice childhood memories I bet. My condolences and sorry for the loss.
Thank you to all the father's who taught their sons, who taught their sons who are now teaching their sons the appreciation of the out doors.
My condolences.. I appreciate the effort you put into your videos, always enjoy them and learn something.
So sorry for your loss John. I always enjoyed the video with your dad catching the striper at the end because it reminded me of fishing with my dad. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
So sorry to hear about your loss. Enjoy your videos and instruction.
My deepest condolences John. My prayers for you and your family.
John, sorry for your loss. I miss fishing with my dad. He passed in 2001.
Glad you were able to fish the family dock one more time. Looks like a great spot to grow up fishing.
sorry to hear about your dad...not an easy moment in one's life. as always nice vid, good info and nice to see that your rig proves itself again and again!
My condolences during your time of loss.
Thank you for sharing Mr Skinner. Best wishes to you and your family
Sorry for your loss.I my self live on some fishing memories.God bless.
My condolences. Rest in Peace.
My condolences Mr. Skinner.
I must say John Skinner , yours are the only videos on UA-cam that have watched multiple times . I look for every hidden detail , I count revolutions of line and the look up details of the reel . How much line per rev . When did he retrieve on a drop count ! Or did the line slack ?
Those kinda details , and by paying attention and using your advise I have dramatically increased my catch . Thank you . Your a very generous man .
Have learned to like fishing for flounder becuase of Eliasvfishing, just ordered your book today from you hoping it arrives soon
Sorry for your loss John. Another great video! Don't understand the 6 dislikes. How could anybody not like this?
There are haters but God sees these petty folks and these petty folks won't do good in life.
god bless you John
john your all your vids are very informative sorry to hear bout your dad totaly understand bout the doc excellant vid
Hi John..
My condolences for your father....
I am on the west coast north of Seattle and there are flounder/fluke in the waters here but they seem to be overlooked by fishermen....I think the reason is we have some very good salmon runs near here and they tend to be the focus of most fishermen in this area... I have fished rock fish and local ling cod (as well as salmon also) but like the idea of flounder because they are located in so many areas, different bottom structures also compared to rock and ling cod, and can be fished from shore... I have a 24ft boat but sometimes fishing from shore (or by kaiak) is more relaxing IMO... I plan to try to pick areas with cleaner waters because I imagine, being a bottom fish, Flounder would pick up some of the resident toxins in the water that can sink to the bottom where they live..... Also was thinking the smaller would be better eating since less age to accumulate toxins... These are the same principles I apply to dog sharks which we have here as well.... eat the smaller ones (but still legal) and from cleaner waters...
I am sorry for your loss sir.
I fished a dock one time and caught well over 100 fluke in about an hour, it was insane. I was chunking for bass and it was super slow so i decided to go over to a dock with a light on it to catch schoolie bass, and I got nothing but fluke! It was insane action.
I'm sorry about your father btw
amazing story. awesome video
Man your always catching loads of flounder!
Sorry to hear about your father may he Rest In Peace.
God bless John
Thank you for sharing!
Nice video.
John, I am really looking forward to reading your flounder book and striper pursuit but would really wish they were available for my Kindle Fire. It has all my other books on fishing and is a lot easier to take with me on trips. I am starting to chase striper here in the susquehanna flats and will be going after flounder in the OBX in September. Hope you get this message, and can let me know if it will ever be available on my kindle. thanks for the great books.
Like your vids. Sorry you lost your dock.

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
A fluke on every cast! That is awesome and one dock I want to fish from! How deep is the channel there and how deep around the dock? Great video again John. Thanks for sharing! P.S. I thought it was cold up there right now? Why you in sandals? LOL
Sorry for your loss John I rember seeing him on the cover of the fisherman with a large bass a couple years ago
Yep, that cover was displayed prominently at his funeral. We should all be so lucky to catch a bass like that at age 89, on an eel trapped in the back yard.
Hi John, Just wanted to start by saying I love the videos you post. Very informative. I wanted to ask if the method you use to catch fluke out at Rhode Island (I forget your location) Would it be as effective for Halibut out in the west coast (California)?
Nice job letting that pizza box float right by you
John, really like your videos I am a new subscriber and I was wondering on your kayak fishing videos how do you store your catch? Thank you for sharing.
My condolences
Sorry to hear about your father
There is most likely going to be changes with the fluke regulations this year. 3 at 19"
My dad and I used to fish a lot now I do with my son. Dads still alive but doesn't fish anymore makes me sad. I need to know how do you keep your braid from getting wind knots I see how it's going on the reel and it looks very loose?
Have you ever fish of fort Trumbull in new london ct?
Hey John, Thanks for the lecture this passed weekend. How do you keep the gulp from spilling? those containers suck!!!
Buy a tuperwear with a locking lid. I bought a set of 2 at Wal-Mart for $6.
Hey john love all your videos , took your advice on the bucktail with a mullet trying to bump off the bottom in a cadence rhythm unfortunately I got snagged so my question is is there any way to retrieve it
it's my 2nd one I lost in the same day I wanna find a solution before it's starts getting expensive haha thanks always john!!!
Don't bump it on the bottom. Try to swim it above the structure. If the place is too sticky, it might not be good for this fishing.
Those flounder look a lot like our california halibut. I wonder if the same techniques would work?
Yes it will.
Hello john, I am a huge fan. I am in need of a new surf bag and was wondering what bag you would suggest to hold a decent amount of plugs that is durable but not more than $150. Thanks, paul

Hi John I notice you not using a sinker if I was in charter boat I much sinker should I use I know it vary with the wave and all? Thanks in advance
Your retrieving is soo fast compare to Texas flounder we do.
Sorry about your father. My uncle died last week he's the one that got me into fishing.
Why would U not keep any? Do you not eat fish?
Fluke/Flounder are some of my favorite fish to eat!!
Fishkiller 41
Why would you keep a short?
Nice John. Will you be getting the New Dawia Bg's?
And my Condolences
Are you catching these in December? or you are uploading vids from summer? just want to know
Is that a dropper loop to put the shrimp on?
do you have any weights/sinkers on that? if you use weights, do you put it above or below bait?
do you like tactical angler clips for fluke fishing or is that too much hardware
Hey john do you have any videos explaing the technique you use as you reel in
Maybe this ua-cam.com/video/1ddROb-z0-4/v-deo.html
what rod and reel are you using in this video? if you mentioned it I must have missed it.
Hey John, would you be able to overnight or two-day ship a copy of your new book? Or do you know of any tackle shops in NJ that might carry it? Thanks.
I'll ship it priority 1-3 day mail at no extra cost. Order before 7 a.m. tomorrow (thursday) so I can ship before work
John Skinner Fishing Sounds great, thanks John. Your books and videos have been tremendous resources for me over the years. Happy holidays.

Hey your videos are awesome and I have been trying to follow your tips to get flounder but they yet still seem to avoid me on artificial, but on live trout love me. if you could take a look at my channel and offer any tips I would be greatly appreciative. I look forward to what you have next.
Its a shame people are in the mindset that municipaities own fishing docks, #1 where did the money come from to build it, "the people" and all people the public own it, they/municipalities own nothing. Help abolish the fishing license/permi$ion slips.
